At the Craftsman location in McLean, my 2016 Subaru Outback and I always get treated with the utmost attention to detail in the most professional way. They have helped me work multiple issues in the past including an oil change, spark plugs and four new tires. Today I called to schedule my appointment for new brakes and an oil change. I always know that I can trust Ray and his team to provide me the assurance that this expenditure would be a costly but well worth it. I admire the work ethic and customer service of Ray Knight because it's so superior to other mechanics I have used, which is why I took my business to Craftsman when he was hired as the GM . This place really knows how to go above and beyond. Also, I was impressed how the staff at the counter assisted two different people who came to ask advice, even though these individuals weren't customers yet. The counter staff went out of their way to give them information they were looking for without trying to take advantage of them. Thank you, Ray and Craftsman! You rock! read more

On March 26, 2024 I had my first experience with Craftsman Auto Care- Mclean. I have heard a lot of great things about them and decided to try myself. My Ford F-150 required a front and rear brake job, I knew this prior to visiting them. Within 30 minutes they had inspected my truck and confirmed my assessment. The staff was extremely professional and Steve took the time to explain what they would do and why. He was very knowledgeable and accurate in his assessment. They were willing to keep my vehicle and start the work when a service bay opened. Unfortunately, I was on a tight schedule and could not complete the work that day. Steve consulted me as to when I would be available and we settled on 7:00 AM March 27,2024. Steve assured me he would order the parts that day so my wait time would be reduced on the 27th. I showed up on time on the 27th and within 15 minutes my truck was in a service bay being worked on. They were quick and the work was completed correctly in approximately 2 hours. The price was fair and far less than a Ford dealership quoted. I will be a return customer and bring the rest of our family cars to them in the future. read more

The entire team at Craftsman Auto Care in Mclean is great . We take all of our 4 family cars there and get excellent and fast service at a fair price. When there is a specific part for the car , they will often around to find a better price than the more expensive dealer option . Their work is first class , while having a small town feel to the way they treat customers. In the very, vary rare instance when there is some part of the service that is not exactly right, and we bring it to their attention , they immediately address the issue at no cost, and stand behind their service . To us , this last aspect is more important than finding the cheapest mechanic in town. One last comment. Upon taking over this Mclwan service location from the previous owner (Mclean Auto) who we also liked because of their small town approach to customers , we were initially ( mistakenly) thinking that the new owners would come in with an impersonal "big corporation " approach to customers. This was not the case. The new management at Craftsman Auto Care Mclean have actually upgraded the level of service, but kept the small town approach to customers. read more

I was traveling from DE with a client when my Toyota Tundra truck had some mechanical issues. We pulled over and immediately looked for an automative service company nearby. Boy were we ever lucky to call the best service place!! ....Tom told us to bring it in so they can run diagnostics. They immediately diagnosed the problem, told us to the penny how much it would cost to get it fixed and then they went over and beyond.... Matt Curry himself drove us to another location to pick up a loaner car so we were able to continue our business while my truck was getting fixed. The truck was fixed before the end of the business day and when we pulled up to the center with a car full of purchases, Tom graciously helped us reload all to my truck. The truck runs great now and I cannot say how much I appreciate their customer service. It was AWESOME and I cannot recommend them more! read more

Steve is one of a kind. He's the most wonderful mechanic/customer service specialists I have ever encountered in my search for a long-time shop I can trust with my vehicle. They do not price gouge you at all. In fact, they diagnose, tell you what needs to happen now, as well as what to look for down the road. Not an "everything needs to happen all at once" kinda deal. I recently had a nail in my tire (small fish, I know), but not only were they honest about it not being a full puncture, they also they made sure everything was safe for me to get on down the road this winter--free of charge! I 100% recommend them to anyone in the area searching for a loyal, honest shop who truly values their customers. Customer retention is key, and they have it (from me at least). I took my 21 year old Audi TT to Craftsman Auto Care in McLean after having to leave it in my garage for well over a year. When driving the car, there was a strong chemical odor coming from the engine. I had taken it into several shops and was told that nothing could be found. I was ready to give the car to charity as I knew no one would buy it - nor could I have sold it to anyone with a clear conscience. The people at Craftsman Auto were determined to find the cause and didn't give up until they did. They then update everything else in the car and it is now running like it did a decade ago! Their prices were extremely reasonable - they were fast - they kept me well informed - they were honest. McLean is extremely fortunate to have this new business here to help us with all our auto needs. read more

Used this shop few years ago - my car had oil leak, and I needed to visit family in Connecticut for Christmas. They fixed leak and stayed open late for me to pick up. I thought it was a "one off" due to Season. Went back today for installation of seat belts; and saw same professionalism. I asked how they pull this off? Fourteen mechanics with six bays usually repair 40 cars a day, their repair parts are delivered hourly by suppliers, mechanics help each other with difficult issues, they even have a few apprentices learning from experts. This is the way a business should be run, but seldom is. They have branches in Merrifield, Fairfax, Asburn, Reston - I have not been to those, so can't give opinion if same high quality. From out of town and made a last minute appointment after smelling a burning odor. I called that morning to see if they could squeeze me in for a diagnostic at the least. They told me they could run it but had a lot of customers with only 1 technician for the day so couldn't make promises on immediate repairs.... Flash forward 4 hours, I received a detailed inspection over text which broke down the problems with pictures of my car. They were able to do a complete rear brake overhaul: changed calipers, pads, and rotors, flushed brake fluid; they replaced my engine mount, and topped off my oil. We were driving to Virginia from out of town when the "check engine" light came on in our truck. Thank goodness we found Steve and the team at Craftsman. They were extremely courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. Steve even managed to squeeze us in without an appointment on a busy Saturday and went above and beyond to get us back on the road safely. He stayed in touch throughout the day and left us with a detailed readout of the pickup's computer codes, even though he knew we were from out of town and wouldn't be able to use his business on a regular basis. My car is 10 yrs. old, so I knew when I saw the check engine light come on it wasn't going to be cheap to fix. Plus I also needed a new battery. I was good about turning the headlights off, but those pesky little over head lights above the dash are easy to forget on nights you come home from a day out and dragging a bit. I took my car in in the morning and it was ready that night. Craftsman uses quality parts and does a good job of diagnosing and fixing the problem the first time (unlike some other places I have been to.) The staff is respectful and even fun to work with, even on a hot busy day. I really feel they have my best interests in mind! Thank you guys! read more

My car engine died unexpectedly and I had called Craftsman as they had done my oil change previously, they were closing but gave me the number of their tow company (who were great and didn't overcharge!). Turns out there was an issue with my oil pan? My car is older (2007) and it likely wasn't going to be worth it to get a new engine, but after explaining the issue to Ray he was so helpful! Turns out it was a manufacturer issue and they were able to advocate on my behalf to get me a new engine for free, and it even has less mileage than the original. I've been here a few times for a yearly inspection, oil change/parking brake fixes, and the latest visit was for a stuck gas cap door. Steven was able to fit me in without an appointment on the same day and they fixed the gas cap door without charging me. For inspections, they send you a link with a full breakdown of the inspection along with pictures, which provides a lot of transparency and peace of mind. Most of the people that work here are very friendly and Steven, in particular, has an awesome demeanor. The customer service and the trustworthy nature of the shop make it the only place I'll take my car, if I can help it. read more

The front engine splashguard on my 2017 Ford CMax came detached and got mangled a bit as I drove on the beltway. I ordered a new splashguard online and Craftsman was able to install it for me the very next day. I had tried other service centers, even the dealer didn't want to be bothered with this repair. I was frustrated because this wasn't something I could do on my own. I greatly appreciated the friendly attitude of the staff at Craftsman Auto Care and their willingness to do this minor repair for me. Also the location is super convenient if you live in McLean. From a safety standpoint I needed an issue with my car resolved immediately. Having never visited Craftsman Auto Care prior, the team was flexible enough to fill me in and provide a great quote prior to repairs. I was extremely impressed with their timing and estimation (considering the amount of work required). They even went the extra mile and assisted with other areas. I had a slow leak in a tire - the second within two weeks. For my prior leak, I took it to another service station in McLean. They made me wait two hours before they told me they couldn't fix it and pushed four new tires instead. This time, I called Craftsman Auto Care. They got me an appointment the next business day. When I arrived, they looked at the tire right away and said it was patchable and estimated a wait time of 90 minutes. They let me know when it went in the bay and it was done in less than an hour. I had a small collision and got really worried about my rear axle and alignment. I walked in and asked for available times for service and they walked outside with me to look it over immediately. Not only did he make sure to address my concerns but he offered to do a full alignment check to assess damage and create an estimate. I left my car and picked it up a few hours later. Based on a recommendation from my neighbor I brought my car to Craftsman in McLean for an oil change and safety inspection. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Turns out customer service is not dead. Super friendly guy welcomed me and explained their service. They sent me a complete inspection report for my car right to my phone which was part of the oil change. Turns out my car needed maintenance that my previous shop either missed or didn't care to inform me about which is troubling at best. I'll be using Craftsman from now on. read more
