I decided to update the look of my 1980 house with stacked stone on the exterior, and called Steve based on a recommendation from an Eastside stone materials provider. He came out and gave me recommendations on what would look good for height of the stacked stone on the front of the garage, and height and width of the pillar wrap frames for my general contractor to frame in before adding the stone. Steve recommended a narrow shelf edging between the stone and siding on the garage, and a . They came out a day early, and what Steve and his son custom built with the hand-cut caps and trim looks even better than I thought it would. Sadly we did not have a good experience with Steve. 4 years ago we had Steve come out and replace our chimney from the roof line up. We replaced the damaged drywall and thought we were good to go. The following fall, we had the same leak issue as before. Steve repeatedly came out and blamed one thing after another for our leak issue. As you can see from the photos. There are cracks all through the roof cap. Steve did not return our phone calls, emails, or texts. read more

I can't say enough good things about working with Steve and Craftsman Masonry. We had a rotted support beam above our garage, and we needed to pull down a rock face to repair it. Steve's team worked well with our contractors who repaired the beam, and since it was an old house and the rock was unavailable to match it; Steve made a lot of effort to give us options. When the work was done - it looked as good as could be. He constantly communicated with us and squeezed in our job between other projects because we had some urgency to complete the work. Needed my chimney inspected after I bought my home so I called around. It's an older home with a wood burning fire place, so I wanted to make sure everything was fully functional before I set my first house on fire... This father and son duo came to my house hours later, free of charge, and proceeded to inspect the inside and outside of the fire place and chimney, all the while explaining to me what to be looking for when it comes to chimney problems. I told them I wanted to clean it before winter hits and they insisted that wasn't necessary. In and out in 15 minutes. I offered to pay them for their services and they said just leave us a review. We moved into a new house recently. On our first day of heavy rain, water started dripping steadily from the plate where our stovepipe meets the ceiling.I did a quick search for folks who work on woodstoves and found craftsman masonry. I gave them a call, explained the issue, and we set a time for to take a look the next day. After a quick look at the roof, Steve determined the pipe hadn't been put together correctly. They fixed the issue and ran a new bead of caulk, explaining that it should fix the leaking I'm seeing inside, and to give them a call if it persists. Our wood stove fireplace insert was acting up. About every other time we burned a fire, smoke came pouring into the house. I called and I had an appointment for an inspection and cleaning for the next day! Steve and his son came right out and inspected and cleaned our chimney. They tested it to make sure the smoke went straight up and out. Yay! He even took the time to explain to me the cause of the smoke back up. These guys are awesome! Our chimney was failing and we were in a rush to get it fixed before the weather started to turn. After Steve came out to take a look and gave us a quote, we were impressed that he gave us the honest answers around what needed to be done - much more reasonable than another company we talked to that tried to up-sell us and have us pay to complete unnecessary work. From the time we okay'd the quote, it was no more than a few days before they were out working on our chimney (in the two days of sunshine during this very rainy time!). I highly recommend Craftsman Masonry! This February we noticed a leak in a bedroom near the wall containing the chimney. Assuming it was a chimney leak, we called out one popular Seattle-area company. They took a look and said we needed to redo the entire wood chimney surround - and quoted us $8000. Fortunately, we also called Steve at Craftsman Masonry - he took one look at the leak on our bedroom ceiling and inferred that the leak was most likely due to a nail in the roof as the leak wasn't in the usual spot for a chimney leak. Sure enough, on the roof he found and sealed two nails protruding through our roof a few inches from the chimney and we've been leak free since! He graciously did not even charge us for the small job. We do eventually need to redo our chimney surround but he said it could wait to be done when we need a new roof in a few years. We also need a new chimney crown as it flexes in the wind creating a loud noise but he recommend just adding a wood brace for the time being until we redo everything in a few years. I was very impressed at their honest and professional service. We'll definitely be calling them when we do really need a new chimney. read more
