My wife and I and daughter were out doing some shopping at the Mills and figured we'd grab a bite to eat before heading to the house . Well , after a round of "what do want " I don't know..... what do you want ? We decided on visiting the Crafty crab. After all , you can't go wrong with seafood right ? Boy were we wrong . When we walked in we were serenaded by " Pop that coochie" from the 2 live crew . We were seated and ordered . I was then told what I ordered wasn't available and the menu didn't reflect that . Ok , no problem so I went with a Po boy fish sandwich and the wife got a boil to share with the daughter . The Po boy came out really fast , like too fast and so I was like ok let's see what this is all about . The bun was refrigerator cold and the "fish" was more breading than fish and had an awful oil tinge to it . A fish filet could have beat it. The wife didn't even finish eating as she said it was awful. Besides the "ambiance " Tran's the food , I'd say the soft drink was the best thing and the server was cool as well . I always love a good seafood boil so this was a place. I was excited to try on my visit to Charlotte! They have lots of drink offerings and I really like their buy one, get one entrée. Keep in mind that with this deal, the entrée you get for free has to be the same as the one you order. The restaurant is nice and there's a lot of longer tables if you have a large party. I love that they put aprons and gloves on the table for you and plenty of napkins because you know it can get messy! I ordered a boil that came with snow, crab, legs, and shrimp. I like that you can customize your sauce level. I had the original sauce which was really good. The snow crabs legs were very small. Unfortunately service was very slow the day that I went. Everyone in my table got their food, and there was one person in my party who did not receive their food until almost 40 minutes to an hour after everyone else. The quality of the crab boil has greatly diminished. The sauce has no flavor and did not have the consistency of butter. It looked and tastes like cooking oil. Went here on a Saturday to spontaneously get some lunch for my cousin's birthday. I was impressed with the tables (the butcher paper and the trash cans), but me being impressed stopped about there. It was.. fine. My cousin thought that the crab was a bit undercooked, I thought it was overcooked. Each time we broke a leg, the meat broke with it, so we had to put more effort than usual into getting the meat out. I may not be a cook, but I know something wasn't right about that. The 1lb orders of seafood come with 2 pieces of corn and 2 potatoes. The corn was sweet and cooked fine. I personally don't like corn so I gave mine to my cousin. The potato was fine as well. It tasted much better when I constantly kept dipping it back into the seasoning. I ordered some fries ($4) since I didn't think 1 snow crab cluster was enough, and they were just fine. I'm surprised they weren't seasoned, so I just dipped the fries into the crab seasoning too. Okay so I really don't eat seafood, and not because I don't like it, I just don't ever order it out or buy it to eat at home. So, I was very pleasantly surprised when I checked this spot out. A friend of mine and her mommy popped in after the University Wine Fest and were seated immediately. It was pretty empty for a busy Saturday. It's not a fancy spot by any means and that's okay. It kind of looks like a pirate ship inside lol, with all the decor. But I guess that's the point. The menu was pretty self explanatory, even after all our wine samples we just had lol. I ordered the boil with a pound of shrimp and it came in a steam bag with corn, potatoes and lots of seasoning. I got the "boom" seasoning which is all of the season options mixed together. I went because I was invited to a surprise birthday party for a 17 year old. We had been asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the birthday girls arrival. Someone in our party had young children and needed a high chair. She asked for a chair twice and sat with a squirming 2 year old in her lap. I finally got up and asked our server and she told me where they were so I grabbed it myself. (Poor customer service) We then sat and was chitchatting until we were bullied into ordering. We explained we were waiting on a few more people and wanted to wait for them but our server let us know that she had another party and it may be a while until we would be able to order again. We ordered to keep the peace but everyone was shocked that she said this verbally. We ordered but looked at one another when someone asked for a Po Boy and was told they don't have them. No explanation or anything. The food came and it was average. One lady was complaining about her drink being too strong and our server sent another employee over to our table who got rude and said, "We don't take alcohol off. We can switch it out that's all." Once the checks came, our server gave them to myself and my partner and we looked like... what are we supposed to do with these. He handed them back to her which made her do exactly what she's paid to do. She handed every check to the respective parties. After looking at our check I noticed there were additional charges. She removed it promptly. I wanted to write a better review because I wanted to like the place but I don't. This is the WORST place and I actually thought we were being punked!!! Now a 17 year old has a memory of what was supposed to be a happy and joyous moment, a disappointment with sh*tty customer service. The mother of the birthday girl also said we were rushed out because there was a party after ours. We had to go to their house to have cake. The standard of this establishment is subpar and will never see my face again!!!! The severs were rude, nasty and had more spice than the sauce. Lately I've been trying out all the new crab places that are popping up around Charlotte. We dined on a Saturday around 4pm and there was no crowd. We must have missed the dinner rush. I ordered the 1/2 lb black mussels and 1/2 lb headless shrimp with extra corn on the cob. I got it fire hot and it wasn't too spicy to be honest. I was happy with the heat but I wouldn't consider it more than a medium. Your food is steamed in a bag and smothered in the sauce of your choice and you choose the spice level. It was an ok experience. The mussels were gigantic and very fishy tasting. I've never tasted a mussel like that before. I will stick to my favorite steamed seafood restaurant which is near by. read more

We were in town celebrating a birthday and stopped at Crafty Crab with a group! The space is large and the decor is on par with the seafood theme, so the atmosphere is good. I appreciated the Juke box machine and we purchased some credits to put on a few songs. I'm not the biggest seafood fan, but I really don't have any complaints about the food. We had onion rings, buffalo wings, crab, shrimp, hush puppies ... the works! Everything was tasty, and they even have a large drink menu that has something for everyone. We love the food at this location! I have been here at least 5 times now for dinner and they are definitely consistent. It's always served nice and hot, especially since you can tell how hot it is based on the bag they hand to you. The seafood is always fresh, and the service is reasonably quick. For the boiled seafood, you can order from a few different spice options and heat levels. I always get the cajun seasoning with mild spice since I'm not a big fan of spicy food and this is perfect for me. I recommend getting the full lb since it comes with corn and potatoes which are always a good size and offer a different taste as you're eating through the seafood. (Any leftovers still taste good the next day!) My fiancé and I love how spacious the inside of this location is too. Even when it's busy, it's a comfortable distance away from other people, especially if you sit on the upper level. They give out coupons every once in a while so it's almost always a great deal. Tip: the Concord location is not as good so definitely come to this one instead! read more

I usually don't write reviews, but my experience at Crafty Crab was so frustrating I felt compelled to warn others. First off, we waited forever just to get water, and when we finally did, the waitress walked off before we could even order. After waiting awhile, someone finally came to take our order, but it wasn't even our actual waitress--it was someone else who, halfway through, said, "I'll be right back" and disappeared. By the time we finally placed our order and got our food, it wasn't even 10 minutes before the waiter dropped off the check and basically stood there waiting for us to pay. Seriously, we were still wearing our messy gloves and trying to enjoy our meal, and they were already rushing us to leave. To top it off, less than 30 minutes later, they told us they were closing in 5 minutes. It was 9:45 PM! No one mentioned anything about an early closing time, and as I was packing up my to-go food, they literally shut off the lights. Unbelievably rude and unprofessional. Me and my friends walked in around 8:30pm to be seated by the hostess, we know they usually close their kitchen an hour early so we kept that in mind and came in just to be told it would be a 30 min wait which was sketchy but we decided to go with it and gave them our phone number to text when it was ready. 25 minutes go by then 30 and there's no text. We go in to check just to be told by another person that we are no longer seating or serving and informed her about being told of a 30 min wait and she said "well the girl lied to yall" the girl that told us about the 30 minute wait was nowhere to be found. Jury is still out. I had an appointment to get a hair cut at noon and my wife told me to go where ever I wanted to go for lunch. She's not into Seafood and I had tried to this restaurant once before after Church but found they did not open till 12 noon so I went to a nearby restaurant with a similar menu. Today I was finished with my haircut by 12:30 and as usual, Andrea did a great job but at my stage in life, I'm not charged for a haircut but rather a finders fee and as hair gets thinner and thinner, takes less and less time to cut. Got there a little bit after 1pm and the parking lot was packed but not just because of Crafty Crab. A lot of other shops and restaurants are served by the same parking lot. Walked in and the restaurant was only about 1/4 full but still a good crowd, Sign said Please Wait to Be Seated but hostess was missing in actions and a couple of minutes later, I was walking back to the parking lot when I finally hear a voice call out as to rather of not I wanted to be seated. I was finally seated and they took my beverage order which was just for iced tea, unsweetened with Lemon. Nice menu with a emphasis on low country or Cajun Seafood Boils which I like but also with lighter fair like seafood plates and baskets. I wanted to try one of the boils but we had dinner plans that evening and I did not want to fill up and at the same time, did not want to get too messy which is what happens when you eat a boil. Opted instead for the Oyster Basket. While good, it did have more of a fishy taste than I an used too. The Cocktail Sauce was very good as were the Onion Rings. Portion size for the price is small compared to other Seafood Restaurants in the area. Ambiance is OK with a Marine Theme but noise level is very loud even with the restaurant only about 1/4 capacity. Most aggravating point was the level of service. Almost completely ignored when I walked through the front door, once I was seated and my order was delivered, I would estimate I had someone come by my table every two or three minutes to ask if I needed or wanted anything. Once or twice would have been a nice level of service but all I wanted to do was eat my meal in peace and check up on my tablet. It was almost like they were trying to hurry me up and get me out the door. I visited the Crafty Crab before, but this was before my Yelping days. This second visit was subpar, but I am aware this was on a Friday night... pretty busy night! We ordered to go, which wasn't as seamless as I thought it may have been. Once the orders were places, we had to have waited a minimum of 20 minutes to receive the order before asking for the status. Once orders were received, it was found that one was completely incorrectly; I assume they put in the wrong order gave to another person. Now to break down the order I placed it was 10 cajun wings, 6 buffalo wings, fries and calamari (I was really excited about that). The calamari was excellent, just the right amount of breading and seasoning, don't change this.  The fries, well they were fries you would get at a seafood place, not much love was given to them in the seasoning department. The wings they could use a lot of work; again I understand this I a seafood place, but flavor is important with all items on the menu. The cajun wings smell like cajun, but they didn't take like cajun. It was a pretty bland wings with no salt or anything. I'm not going to say I would never go back, but I can say I will stick to the seafood said of the menu. read more

Came here after a UNCC football game on a Saturday evening, no wait at all. Booths were nice and spaced out and the decor was eclectic. Waiter was nice enough. Ordered 1/2 lb of mussels and 1/2 lb of headless shrimp in garlic butter sauce. The sauce was delicious and I do not like heat. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because while the food was fantastic and the options seemed endless, the service started out great but definitely fell off after we received our food...no checking back on beverages or to see if we needed anything extra. I ordered a half pound of the snow crab & headless shrimp combo in buttery garlic seasoning and added sausage, which was delicious. I initially had planned on ordering a pound, but I'm glad I didn't because I couldn't even finish what I ordered with the half pound - it's a lot of food! This place is horribly run please don't waste your time coming here. This is me and my friend's 2nd time coming to this restaurant an hour or more before they close. Tonight we were told at 8:50 that we needed to wait 30 min for a table. We waited 20 minutes and had not received a call for our table. We went in and were told that they were no longer seating people for the night. They did not have a manager on shift and the shift lead was not helpful at all. I came here with some family members and realized once I sat down that I wasn't quite hungry so I just decided to get a drink. I asked the waitress her most popular drink here and one that she personally like and she recommended the Mango Drink. It was absolutely delicious, I could use a bit more alcohol however I still enjoyed it regardless because mango is one of my favorite fruits. My only issue is that my waitress seem to have a bit of an issue or just didn't seem to be in the mood to be at work today. Her energy showed overall and it was noticed by other parties that were with me. However outside of that everything else was pretty good, and I took a bite of some of the other food that my party had and it was delicious also. I had to give 4 stars because I feel like they skimp out and I felt this way at the other location in concord too. So I always get the same boils from any place.
