Flashin Fruit Punch
Michaela J.

I always love a good seafood boil so this was a place. I was excited to try on my visit to Charlotte! They have lots of drink offerings and I really like their buy one, get one entrée. Keep in mind that with this deal, the entrée you get for free has to be the same as the one you order. The restaurant is nice and there's a lot of longer tables if you have a large party. I love that they put aprons and gloves on the table for you and plenty of napkins because you know it can get messy! I ordered a boil that came with snow, crab, legs, and shrimp. I like that you can customize your sauce level. I had the original sauce which was really good. The snow crabs legs were very small. Unfortunately service was very slow the day that I went. Everyone in my table got their food, and there was one person in my party who did not receive their food until almost 40 minutes to an hour after everyone else. It took a while to track down our waitress, and then it took even longer to track down a manager. The food was great , but I was unfortunately disappointed by my service experience.

I ordered a seafood boil with Cajun butter, headless shrimp, and crab legs--it was delicious and packed with flavor. Their buy-one-get-one special was a great deal, and the Hurricane I had was pretty good too. The only downside was the service. It took a while for our food to come out, and one person in our party didn't get their order until we flagged down the waitress--about 30 minutes later. Great food and deals, but the service could be better.

Craft paper with crayons

The food was fresh and hot! We had the shrimp basket and the scallop basket. Both were excellent! Our server was Reign and she gave us just the right amount of attention! The tables are covered with craft paper, which has a great seafood down home ambiance. The decor was netting that gave the right vibe. Our table was in a corner, so only moderately noisy. We were able to have a conversation with no problem!

Half pieces of Fried Catfish Basket (4)

Absolutely not! I order my catfish basket from here and it's always good. No complaints. Tonite they decided to sell me half pieces instead of whole pieces and they think customers are stupid I guess because I take photos of my food and post reviews. I am very disappointed In their policy. Mgr said since I won't bring it back( wasted fuel) they can't remake it. Dumb policy. I have my receipt and photos with time stamps. They must be struggling financially because reputable establishments trust their customers enough to simply remake the food without seeing the original food. I guess they won't be open for long since they are cutting fillets in half now to save a buck. $16.80 for 4 half pieces of fish is insulting. Too many other places with actual whole pieces of fish so bye UnCrafty Crab! LOL

Snow Crab Legs and Fries

Went here on a Saturday to spontaneously get some lunch for my cousin's birthday. I was impressed with the tables (the butcher paper and the trash cans), but me being impressed stopped about there. Our server was fine, but she got on my nerves a bit, since she kept bugging us for the check every 10-15 minutes despite one of us clearly still eating. And then when we were finally ready to pay, she was nowhere to be seen. We split the 1lb of snow crab legs ($30.99) seasoned with their regular, medium seasoning. 1lb netted us a cluster each. It was.. fine. My cousin thought that the crab was a bit undercooked, I thought it was overcooked. Each time we broke a leg, the meat broke with it, so we had to put more effort than usual into getting the meat out. I may not be a cook, but I know something wasn't right about that. The 1lb orders of seafood come with 2 pieces of corn and 2 potatoes. The corn was sweet and cooked fine. I personally don't like corn so I gave mine to my cousin. The potato was fine as well. It tasted much better when I constantly kept dipping it back into the seasoning. I ordered some fries ($4) since I didn't think 1 snow crab cluster was enough, and they were just fine. I'm surprised they weren't seasoned, so I just dipped the fries into the crab seasoning too. It was okay, but I don't see myself returning. ---------- Overall: My ratings: **Snow crab legs: 6.5/10 **Potatoes: 6/10 **Fries: 7/10 My cousin's ratings: **Snow crab legs: 4/10 **Potatoes: 5/10 **Corn: 6/10 Total rating: 5.75/10 (or 2.88/5, rounded to 3/5 for Yelp) Total cost: ~$42 (minus gratuity)

Delicious shrimp boil

Definitely worth coming here for some delicious seafood boil. I had the headless shrimp with the Cajun seasoning. It was fantastic and I highly recommend it. The service was fast and pleasant. The decor was on point.

We had fried shrimp plate and the fried scallop plate. Both we fresh and delicious. We also got mini cheese cakes since it was my birthday! Reign was a delightful waitress

Okay so I really don't eat seafood, and not because I don't like it, I just don't ever order it out or buy it to eat at home. So, I was very pleasantly surprised when I checked this spot out. A friend of mine and her mommy popped in after the University Wine Fest and were seated immediately. It was pretty empty for a busy Saturday. It's not a fancy spot by any means and that's okay. It kind of looks like a pirate ship inside lol, with all the decor. But I guess that's the point. The menu was pretty self explanatory, even after all our wine samples we just had lol. I ordered the boil with a pound of shrimp and it came in a steam bag with corn, potatoes and lots of seasoning. I got the "boom" seasoning which is all of the season options mixed together. This was SO GOOD!!! I also got a side of sweet potato fries, they were okay. Kind of overcooked. Overall, this was a yummy and filling meal. I'd go back if I ever got a hankering for seafood.

Me and my family visited here for Sunday lunch. We were a group of 7 and the service was surprisingly fast. Usually there is a delay when serving a large group, but they were quick & accurate. I was truly impressed with the service! The food was absolutely amazing!!! I had not one complaint! This is my new favorite seafood spot!

Lately I've been trying out all the new crab places that are popping up around Charlotte. We dined on a Saturday around 4pm and there was no crowd. We must have missed the dinner rush. I ordered the 1/2 lb black mussels and 1/2 lb headless shrimp with extra corn on the cob. I got it fire hot and it wasn't too spicy to be honest. I was happy with the heat but I wouldn't consider it more than a medium. Your food is steamed in a bag and smothered in the sauce of your choice and you choose the spice level. It was an ok experience. The mussels were gigantic and very fishy tasting. I've never tasted a mussel like that before. I will stick to my favorite steamed seafood restaurant which is near by.

Even after going to New Orleans- I have to say this is the best Cajun Food I have ever had! We were able to get the bbq shrimp and rice, the Cajun pasta, garlic mashed potatoes, seafood gumbo and the pecan pie. Starting with the bbq shrimp- the sauce was so aromatic, spicy and savory and delicious. It was such a well tasting dish! The Cajun pasta had the best sauce I have ever had in a pasta (and I just recently come back from Italy) along with the perfect blacked chicken. Seafood gumbo blew me away with the flavor and spice, everything in it was so well blended together. The mashed potatoes were a perfect addition and balanced out the meal. The pecan pie was to die for, freshly made and perfect in every bite The ambience was even better, we got to see a live jazz band play and they did a stellar job in creating the vibe and adding to the already warm and homey aesthetic. In fact, I think Cajun Queen might be one of the the haunts we take visitors while they are in town. We started with a half order of fried oysters. Delicious. For our entrees, my wife had the grilled Mahi-Mahi topped with crawfish sautéed with artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, and scallions in a white wine, lemon butter sauce served over rice. I had the blackened catfish with the same crawfish topping with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. We both greatly enjoyed our dishes. I was almost deterred by recent reviews regarding seasoning of the dishes. My wife and I are accustomed to eating spicy food. I am pleased to report that spices happily danced on my tongue as I savored my catfish. To finish off our meal, we shared a slice of warm pecan piece. Delicious. The wonderful food was coupled with pleasant enough service. Our waitress waited a little too long to return to take our order, but once she did I was surprised by how quickly our food arrived. We enjoyed listening to the three-piece Gator Band (drums, upright bass, and piano) playing jazz tunes while we ate on the second floor of the converted house that is the Cajun Queen's home. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

That said, Yard Dog is not a dog at all, but a superb little restaurant with a great menu and mouth-watering foods. Oh boy! Wife and I entered and were surprised at just how small their dining area was. Couple that with a not-so-pleasant noise level, you will have difficulty seating more than four and conversation will be tough, but not impossible. You came to eat. It is a very cozy, busy and fun place. In addition to the super menu there is a chalk board with specials. Check those out first. I spotted catch of the day, which was Red Snapper, a favorite of mine, which came with two sides ($26). When served, it was three fillets, so the whole eatable parts of the fish, topped with a Cajun spice mixture and a horseradish sauce. This is a to-die-for or last meal item. The fish was perfectly cooked and my side of collards were as mammy has done for eons: flavorful with pork and a perfect complement to my catch of the day. And the fried okra was great and I paid the $.50 for ranch dressing, as fried okra SHOULD be so complemented. Wife does not eat sea food, so she was, initially, confronted with the challenge of finding a dish without seafood in it. She did. There were a number of options, like pasta with Andouille sausage ($21) which is listed as with shrimp, but they omitted the shrimp for her. She also spied blackened meatloaf and some other items for the next visit. The place is busy and the wait staff is hustling as fast as the kitchen can get orders out. The kitchen looks so small, but they are a blur of motion cooking and plating. Kudos to the kitchen and servers. Our server was Sophie and she was excellent. There are beverages on a separate menu, mostly wine, beer and hard cider, with some non-alcohol items also available. We both had hard cider at $6 a can. Draft beer was available at $7 a glass. We will definitely return, even give lunch a try. I will most likely answer the siren call for five stars, which is certainly in the cards. See for yourselves.

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

I've heard rave reviews about this place so Michelle & I went for Sunday Brunch…read more They recommended a reservation so we had one @ 12n. It was already quite busy when we arrived and it's not clear where your parking options are. People are pulling up to the entrance and dropping people off so it gets jammed up and chaotic, of course people are running late so those BIG Yukons and Suburbans are making it a challenge to navigate a small entrance area. You would THINK they would at least have a Valet option of Sat/Sun during Brunch. To park, go BEHIND the restaurant on the street to the left and you'll see some free parking options that are close and walkable. We asked for a table on the patio and were immediately seated. The bar was already buzzing with solo diners enjoying their Mimosas. The patio is NOT that big, a little over crowded and table are very close with not much space in between. There was a LARGE group of 'FUN' ladies right beside us enjoying their MIMOSAS, dropping the 'F' bomb from time to time and making a LOT of noise. What can you do? Nothing but try to make the best of it and just start talking LOUDER like everyone else. The OVERHEAD heaters were way too intense so the Staff was very responsive at our request to turn down the heat. We shared the BBQ Shrimp Starter which was SO good, I highly recommend. I had the Gumbo and Michelle had the beet and goat cheese salad. We both had the Red Fish which comes with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were so BLAND, the broccoli had NO seasoning. The Red Fish wasn't that great of a flavor and not very tender, not easy to cut, had to use my knife at times to get a bite. Kinda disappointed, I lived in N Orleans for a couple of years and it was always so good there. The biggest disappointment was the Gumbo. It had all the right ingredients but the ROUX was to strong, dark and heavy. It actually gave me indigestion afterwards. The service was OUTSTANDING. Our Server was Daylean, she was so nice and helpful with the menu and kept our refills coming.
