I don't know where my MIL got this sofa for me. Probably ordered online. Took 4 weeks to be delivered. Fine! The day of, after it was confirmed 310 times that the window was 3pm-6pm, suddenly at 11:50am, it's going to arrive within 30 minutes. Fine! Luckily I happened to be home, because within 90 seconds my doorbell rings and this sole, small guy, who barely speaks a lick of English is there to deliver my sofa and literally the first 2 things he tries to cover to me are 1) I need you to help me and 2) you need to pay me for this Sorry wtf? I'm a 100lb woman. I cannot help you carry a 300+lb couch into my house lol why on earth are you ALONE? Esp when you don't speak any English, sir!? Secondly, you're asking me to give you a tip to do your job? Idk if my MIL failed to tell me that this would be an expectation or not, and I really wouldn't mind tipping the guy, except for, I have no cash on me! I never ever carry cash and certainly wasn't expecting for someone to ask me for it. Being alone, with a stranger, at dusk, asking me for money made me unfathomable uncomfortable. Even though there did not end up being an issue, this is NOT something I should have to anticipate. The couch itself is fine. I don't understand why this gentleman if you could call him that, was ever assigned to this task alone. wtf would have happened if this piece of furniture that came in 3 giant pieces, mind you, needed to go upstairs???? LITERALLY PHYSICALLY it would have been IMPOSSIBLE. What you shouldn't believe is management's standard cut and paste apologies posted on this site. I bought $5000 worth of product there. I've called the manager three times in one week. This review is exclusively for the 'curbside pickup'. I did all of my shopping conveniently from my app. Items were to be ready the following day but of course they sent me an email within hours that the order was ready for pickup! They have designated parking spots for pick up, you call the number and they ask for your last name. I pulled into the loading zone in pouring rain and she came out and quickly loaded my trunk. In and out in under 3 minutes from the time of the call. Superb service! I got all my boxes neatly packaged. One of my glasses has a defect but I'm Positive when I call tomorrow they will find a way to resolve it. Nothing beats their designs and quality. read more

Despite the fact that we spent about $5,000 at the business, the manager showed no empathy for our situation and simply directed us to customer support. Six weeks after the purchase, they called and requested us to clear everything for delivery. We gave away our sofa and television console. Our television is lying on the floor. This is our TENTH week and we are yet to receive our TV console. They charged my credit card for Full amount, but when it came to delivering the furniture, they were no where to be found. After multiple failed delivery dates and excuses, I was left without my purchase and no resolution in sight. Despite repeated calls and emails, thy refused to take responsibility . This business operated with no regard for professionalism or ethics. They made promises they never intended to keep. Communication was evasive and they would often shift blame rather than take accountability. Their shady practices and lack of integrity made it clear that they cared more about profits than their customers or reputation. read more

Boring. Turn over the things you might be tempted to buy, as much of their household stuff is made in China. This matters to me. Nothing wrong with china, per se, but I want the countries that excel in their production of goods to not be pushed out by cheapness and greed. Ok, I digress. There are some nice mugs made in Portugal (yeah, Portugal makes mugs, always have...good. I like that.) Highball glasses made in Czech Republic is a whole different thing. Anyway, it bugs me that I have to hunt for American products in an American store. After all, if American workers can't make things and get a paycheck, how on earth can they afford to buy them from your stores? It's not just C&B, mind you, it is an epidemic. One of the best local furniture/houseware stores that is fun to walk through, even if you can't afford to buy anything. It's always jammed with people. Prices are high. Even their glassware is overpriced. I purchased Otis glasses years ago for $2-3 each. Now those same glasses are $9 ea. They break so easily I finally stopped replacing them. I was looking for a new sectional. I was surprised that only one sofa met my needs and it was dressed in rough, stretched out fabric. None of the fabrics felt luxurious or even halfway soft. Most of the sofas were low to the ground with deep cushions, low backs, loose pillows and a wide footprint. They looked like messy beds. Most were not at all comfortable to sit in, which was surprising. There are many surprises in the store such as adorable kids furniture, an attempt at offering modern office furniture, cool rugs, attractive patio furniture, and the usual fun gadgets. Be prepared to spend $20 for a wooden spoon and $30-40 for measuring cups. High quality, though. Most of the time I don't buy anything there, but I always admire the wood furniture and glossy displays. read more

I moseyed around for a while, took some photos of things I liked, and tried out some couches etc. My point is, I should have seemed pretty interested to a sales person, but still, nothing. Whenever I go to Crate & Barrel I always feel good cos it's like I'm back home in Chicago where they started. They certainly have come a long way since I first discovered them back in the late 70's when it was mostly glassware and dishes. You don't have to break the bank shopping here, but you can if you want. Their merchandise runs the gamut in price ranges and designs. Great place to purchase a gift for just about any occasion or something for yourself. I'm so glad they moved to Durham and designed a larger store to include more furniture, but as someone else noted, it is a bit cramped in there. There are social distancing markers near the checkout counter (despite this, some jerk crossed right in front of me as I was next in line). Ah! This location is the best! I love that it's stand alone & (somewhat) has its own parking lot. Very bright & welcoming, all the employees are friendly & helpful. I used the buy online, pick up in store option for one visit. I didn't have to wait long for them to bring out my purchase. Last Saturday evening, I went in looking for a specific canister. An employee welcomed me & knew exactly where the item was. He rang me up quick & I was on my way out the door. Customer service is fantastic here! Everything is neat & organized. LOVE this store. If I had a big house, I'd be in trouble. This location is also super convenient because it's nestled at the end of the mall with a large parking lot, and also open later (than when the mall closes) too. As of late, I've been on a quest to replace all plastics in my kitchen with either stainless steel, wood or organic material. Being so rash, I made the mistake of buying kitchen accessories on Amazon just two days ago. That Amazon Prime with surely get ya when you're impulsive. When I received my cutting board in the mail, I thought to myself "this will do" ... but I wasn't *in love* with it. Today while meeting up with a friend at the movies, I stopped by Crate and Barrel to just "look". (We all know how looking ends) I naturally gravitated to the chopping area and it was love at first sight! They had plenty to choose from, but there was a particular "epicurean" board that immediately caught my eye. I snagged the last one and I'm so happy with my purchase! The finish is beautiful, it's the perfect size and it's splinter free (a characteristic you can't tell unless you've felt it). I know online shopping has taken over these days but today's experience at a brick and mortar takes the cake. As we continue to see stores move to cyberspace, I truly hope it never happens to home furnishing stores like this. Also on this trip, got a plate and stainless steel measuring cups. All rather pricey but I'm certain they will last me a lifetime! Linda was also so incredibly helpful all the way from helping me choose items to checking me out. We were there to pick up an online order and the process was really fast and streamlined. I love that we now have a local C&B showroom because some of these pieces can be hit or miss; and we'd all rather look at and test it in person, rather than after paying a hefty shipping fee and assembling it. With this location, our metro now qualifies for an affordable in-home shipping option that includes the already assembled piece delivered to a room of your choosing, with all packing debris removed from your home. After smuggling carloads of broken down boxes and bags of styrofoam from Overstock.com furniture shipments after a recent move, this has become even more appreciated. I ordered two pieces -- a custom-upholstered sofa and a bamboo patio set -- through this C&B store. They hadn't been open very long at this time, but the sales associate was still helpful and very courteous. After the order, I was given a folder with all the information regarding the sale as well as her personal contact info. She was even good enough to charge me only once for shipping, even though the orders would be coming at separate times (due to the upholstery turn-around). Their shipping company is great, handled the furniture carefully, and placed it where indicated. Everything arrived within the appointed time, and payment at the store, and the remaining balance upon delivery, was a breeze. Four stars because the quality is not always what you pay for. Hubs and I bought a fancy deluxe sofa from Furnitureland South with some seriously durable foam inserts, extra stain protection, custom upholstery AND pillows, with nailhead trim for one of our other rooms -- all for *less* than a C&B sofa priced using one of their upscale fabrics for upholstery. We came looking for bookshelves and other storage items for our home and ended up with two large storage ottomans and a ladder type bookshelf that was on sale. The downside to our story is that they were all back-ordered and so we had to wait 2 and 3 weeks, respectively, for said items to arrive. For those that have never been here, be prepared to pay a pretty penny for their stuff. The craftsmanship is incredible and their products are definitely built to last. You're paying for the quality for sure. Great staff, very friendly, and well-kept store. my only other complaint was that, having a stroller with us, it was difficult to maneuver around many parts of the store. read more

Ordered standard dining chairs early August. They were backordered expecting late August. Didn't hear anything so I contacted them. This representative told me not it's expected early September delay is common for backorder. Early September, I checked the site and it shows as late September. So I contacted the customer service again and asked why I don't get any notification for the delay or anything. This rep said, your order is expected in late September, now you know it. What kind of furniture stores cannot provide some chairs??! It's just chairs. This company is a joke. read more

Right outside the mall. Upmarket furniture, expensive houseware, home decor, dinnerware, all that good stuff you need because you are now an adult and it's no longer socially acceptable to sit in a sofa with cushions so used that they're sinking to the floor and a broken leg. The kind of place where people have their wedding registry. Those things give me nightmares, imagine having to buy someone an artsy bonkers looking ornament for $199 because you were one of the last people to pick from the registry. The whole concept makes my blood boil, not that it's Crate & Barrel's fault. But I digress. Crate & barrel has some nice design stuff. Classy, Looks like good quality. The kind of furniture that you buy and then scream at your family - OMG what are you doing, you can't sit in the sofa you'll wear it out! Wrap it in cling film so I can preserve it to the next generation! They also have some ridiculous charge you out of your nose stuff. Last year Crate & Barrel were actually selling a - listen to this - "hanging branch" decoration for $100. So basically a twig. I can snap one of those from my neighbours yard for free, thank you very much. read more

I'm gonna be honest here. I was very excited about the new C&B opening in Durham because we used to go to Crabtree just to visit C&B. But so far, I haven't been really crazy about the new store. Maybe it's because I'm not in the market for furniture right now, or maybe because it's so pricey, but I just don't get the same feel from the new store as I did from the old one. The items I love the most - the seasonal, decorative, kitchen items - have been shoved into one corner of the store and the flow of people through that area is pretty crowded. There is so much space dedicated to the furniture and whole room layouts, I feel like all the fun stuff is an after-thought. Yes, I'm excited Durham now has a C&B, but I hope they are selling some of that modern, sleek, expensive furniture cause I don't want to see them go anywhere. My suggestion, spread out the seasonal and fun stuff a little more and dedicate more space to these items to bring people in. read more

Wow, the new Crate & Barrel (C&B) opened up in Southpoint. This C&B is located in a large building right next to Urban Outfitters, in a white building with beautiful glass panes. There was a huge crowd last saturday and judging from the facial expression of most people - they were pleased this C&B opened. C&B has contemporary designs that emphasizes form as well as function. Although a little on the expensive side - their items can really bring a suitably appointed room alive. We wondered through C&B and loved many items on offer. The service was prompt and there were plenty of staff on hand to help with questions. We'll be back and it's a great addition to the southpoint shopping experience. read more

Oh Crate & Barrel, how I miss you being nearby at Crabtree. Durham isn't that far away, though. I just wish the new location had a better layout. The kitchen gadget section feels a bit cramped and the furniture layouts try to fit too much into one room design. I don't know many folks who have a couch in their bedroom directly facing the bed. I do like having the furniture available to test out in the store, but feel like they should have gone with the two level store in order to give everything a bit more room. Aside from the layout it is your standard C&B fare of home and kitchen items. I've found they tend to be cheaper than similar stores like Williams-Sonoma, but a bit pricier than somewhere like World Market. The employees are generally friendly and helpful. read more

I really like Crate & Barrel, and this location is excellent. Prices run the gamut, so every budget can find something desirable. I also really appreciate the customer service here. I am always greeted within a minute of entering the store, and the employees are always friendly and make an effort to approach each customer. The only minus is the right-side of the store gets a little crowded, especially during holidays and weekends. That side of the store hosts all the kitchen gadgets and I'd like to spend some time looking at everything, but it can get crowded in that area of the store. read more

I LOVE Crate and Barrel and their products. On my last trip to the Durham store, I went in for a specific product. They had to get it out back and upon getting the product, I examined it and saw that it clearly was used. It was a beverage pitcher with a lid (the type like one would use for juice). It had dried pulp in it. The clerk was adamant that it was NOT used as she said we would not have taken it back if it was. Throughout the pitcher it had dried pulp in it. She kept saying it was not and most likely some shipping materials. Sorry but pulp is pulp and especially for a pitcher that could be used for juice, I have to disagree with her. She got angry that I would not buy it and kept telling me it's the only one they have and I'd have to order one. That's OK as I would rather have a new pitcher versus one that clearly was used and returned uncleared. It would be nice if some type of quality control was conducted at that store. read more

Just received my custom order sofa on time and in the pouring rain. The delivery guys were great and unwrapped the sofa prior to bringing in the wet stuff and set it up for me. It looks great. Also had great help from Jenny in the store with selection. Delivery for the custom sofa took ten weeks, but I'm really happy with my Lounge II 83" sofa. This is my second Crate and Barrel sofa and I have been very happy with the quality. Earlier in the year bought a sofa from West Elm and it was crap compared to C&B. My favorite part of the registry process is walking through World Market looking at the same think you saw in C&B for HALF the price. No joke. We ended up with some nice stuff from C&B but the big purchase was a dining room table. I was browsing this store the other day and came across a white table with ceramic top that was quite nicely priced because it was a floor model. So, I gathered up our wedding gift cards and bought it. Still pretty expensive, but more reasonable than the original price! I'm not too keen on the guarantee for floor models. Apparently they don't stand behind THOSE products? Hopefully it survives a few years of use? Stacy, the woman who helped me pick out the table was super nice... as most Stacy's are! and she looked over the table quite thoroughly before advising me to go ahead and buy it. I'm very disappointed in Crate and Barrel. We have bought a lot of furniture from them but they must have changed their delivery service in the Raleigh/Durham area. We bought a bed from them recently and their delivery service was horrible. I called the store 3 times including the day the delivery was scheduled and got no confirmation info until within 2 hrs or deliver (no email, text or call). Finally customer service gave a call at 12:30 to say they were running late from my originally scheduled 12-2:00 PM window and my needed to be pushed back because "the driver was delayed 1.5 hrs". Mind you they never sent a delivery window and we were already inside the supposed delivery window so it really made no sense to tell me it was a delay. Within 10 mins of that call the driver called me directly to tell me he was on his way and he would be there in 20 mins. When the driver got there they discover they don't have the parts to assemble the bed. Customer service argued with the driver on a speaker phone call with me and said "we can't find any paperwork for that order". Then they take the bed back and tell me they will call me back with an update. No call that day. I called the store on Monday and they say the delivery people will call me back after lunch. No call until Tuesday and they give me 2 dates for reschedule. Either I take time off work for weekday 1 week later or I wait 2 weeks. I call Tuesday afternoon to complain and the store tells me the delivery service comes in early so they go home really early. In the end they think it's ok for me to wait a total of 5 weeks for a bed with 2 weeks added on for their screw up due to an envelope of missing parts?!?! I had to finally say that if they don't deliver my bed this Saturday they can refund me and I'll buy a bed and entire bedroom set somewhere else. Anyone who shops there knows what a bedroom set runs at C & B so we'll see. read more

I had such a hard time getting a sales person to acknowledge me at this store! It's unbelievable. I realize I look young which may convey that I have less money to spend, but they certainly have that wrong. I was loaded with gift cards from our wedding and ready to make the most of them. When I finally got someone's attention to ask if an area rug was in stock, she went to check but a few minutes later I saw her assisting a couple with a full size couch. Obviously she forgot about me. I left with a basic sheet set and some mixing bowls, only because they were readily available on the shelf. We have now waited four months for a sofa we ordered. I finally reached a store manager who stated that this was not an unusual wait for their furniture. She was unhelpful and curt. I was told that they had "oversold" the sofa and had too many orders to fill. Crate and Barrel has had thousands of dollars of our money for four months, while we have nothing but frustration. We've never had this problem with either Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn. read more
