What a gem to stumble upon! I never would've known about Cravings had it not been for an afternoon stroll through Webster Groves and a mad hankering for something sweet. There was a sign saying that it was takeout only and the venue was empty on a Saturday afternoon, but it was filled with a lot of beautiful cakes. I believe I got to witness the legend Tim Brennan himself handle some orders. Service was friendly, although the guy who was helping us out didn't seem to be too familiar with all of their offerings; I don't even blame him, as there are a lot of goodies on their menu with quite the specifications. I found the prices to be very fair. I tried their meyer lemon cream puffs and their mini Baileys heart cake. I actually asked for plain cream puffs, but I'm a fan of desserts with hints of lemon so I won't complain. I didn't love that the box they came in was so frozen inside, but the desserts themselves were tasty. I can only imagine they would've tasted so much better fresh. The Baileys heart absolutely met my expectations; the flavors were perfect and it wasn't too sweet. It was just a higher cream-to-cake ratio, and I would've loved for it to be a more even split because the cake was so light and fluffy. My partner ordered their tray of cinnamon rolls, which were a pretty good deal. His feedback was that he couldn't quite nail the reheating instructions and they came out hard every time, but he genuinely enjoyed them as is without any reheating. This USED to be a gem but wow how times have changed. We stopped by after not having the hazelnut zuccoto for years, a James beArd award winner, and when we ordered 4 pieces, they were given to us from the back in individual pre-wrapped boxes (cling wrap around them). Interesting. Even more interesting was the price of each piece...$10! I mean I get inflation and cost but WOW. Then, we get home and the pieces are half the size we feel like they were at one time AND the cake part was dry. No more zuccoto in our lives. Back in the day it may have been a challenge to find a bakery of this caliber in St. Louis but that certainly isn't the problem anymore, thankfully! read more

Though I've never been inside, I can attest to the quality of their food. I've worked at Dewey's Pizza for close to 3 years, during which we've offered slices of Cravings' carrot cake on our menu. Nothing compares to theirs; the cake is moist, dense, and full of flavor, and the icing has just the right amount of sweetness! Their carrot cake will ruin all other carrot cakes for you! After learning that Dewey's will soon be switching over to another bakery, I was devastated. I guess I'll have to go to Cravings' now to get some, which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing! :) read more

I ordered brownies from there many years ago. Everyone who ate them wanted to know where they came from because they were so delicious.

I found this spot in the suburbs of St. Louis. The owner is a baker and I will tell you the bread and biscuits were simply amazing. He also did a demonstration for our group in the kitchen of ravioli making which was superb. Simple brown butter and perfectly cooked butternut squash and lemon ravioli made a perfect starter. For dinner I picked an a vegetarian green curry which was excellent. Certainly not a Thai curry but it was an excellent choice for my mood. For dessert the strawberry shortcake with biscuit really topped off the night. Nothing better than the cut of subtle lemon zest in a mess of fresh strawberries and creme over a perfectly seasoned biscuit. Delight! read more

After having delicious desserts from Cravings at the Yelp Elite event at EdgeWild, Mallory mentioned that we should go here some time because they serve food. Imagine my embarrassment to not have known that they actually serve meals here being a lifelong Webster-ite. I had never even been in. So we remedied that one Saturday. It's cute inside and we were taken care of efficiently, but not at all with any sort of friendliness. I got the butternut squash soup, plus a foccacia with mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and pesto, which came with a salad. The soup was interesting. It had a curried taste, which I wasn't expecting as it wasn't in the description, but it was ok. The foccacia was really delicious. It was like a tiny flat bread - very small- but the flavors were delicious. The salad was also very good, though beware if you hate onions because they are chopped small, and I hate them so they were hard to remove. There is no way you can come here without having dessert. I got the turtle cheesecake brownie, which had a brownie layer, a cheesecake layer, and some caramel on top (see my pic). It was AMAZING. Best ever. I got ice cream with it, which made it even better. YUM!! I tried Mallory's apple galette, which was good, but we both agreed that we liked mine better. The prices here are a bit on the steep side for dinner, but most people just come to sate their sweet tooth. I come strictly for the almond macaroons, which are large and chewy, just dripping with almond paste. Macaroons get their light texture from that and egg whites, and these cookies are so light they almost float out of the store. This was my first visit to Cravings. I have had their dessert but never eaten here. Overall, it was okay. I had the appetizer Spanakopita (I had it at the Greek Festival the previous weekend and wanted more) and it was enjoyable but we were charged 11.95 despite the price being stated as 9.95 and we only got two! A bit pricy for only two. For my main course I got linguini with wild mushroom (salad or soup comes with the entree) which was very good. But again, this is a fancier place so you do not get a huge portion; the cost is for the quality of the ingredients. For me, I like smaller portions but people with bigger appetites may be disappointed. The service was okay, it took me reminding my server to get my wine and I ran out of water a few times (we were the only ones in there for most of the time). The dessert is where this place really shines. I got the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and it was out of this world good! I would recommend just getting dessert here to go. read more

This is not just a bakery, although owner-chef Tim Brennan is a master of that. There is a restaurant in front and during virus times he has exquisite lunches and dinners to go several days a week. Ask to get on his email list. We get dinner from him a few times a month. More recently, he has opened a small outdoor dining area in back, serving on Friday and Saturday. Our family went Saturday night and everything was wonderful. It's just a salad, but the plate Tim created with mixed delicate lettuces, the freshest possible peach slices and rosemary infused almonds was memorable. The cake didn't fit into the cake box, so the top of the cake lifted off the cake when the box was opened. I've attended a number of food and wine pairings and lunches at Cravings and know the food is good, but if you've been burned by subpar curbside delivery during this pandemic let me assure you that Cravings will not be a name on that list. We ordered a variety and split everything so everyone could have a taste and leftovers for lunch today. All the meals came with reheat instructions. The only words spoken during this meal were, "oh my" "Ohh" "this is so amazing" and "this is the best food we've had in months". 1. Chicken Spedini with mashed sweet potatoes, green beans and carrots 2. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans 3. Chicken pot pie with biscuits 4. Tomato bacon soup 5. The bakery portion of Cravings is wonderful. The restaurant? It's alright. The food is yummy and the prices are higher on some items - but fit the neighborhood (so no complaints there). So why only 3 stars? (I was actually debating giving them 2) Well, I'm going to be throwing a party at the end of August to celebrate the end of summer, a friend of mine coming back from Germany, and to celebrate a friend of mine heading to Stanford... so I thought it might be nice to order some miniature desserts from the bakery. They're advertised at $0.80 a piece. The 36 count box (that's the minimum you can order) is priced at $28.80 - which, mathematically, is exactly what it should be. However, if I want to order 50 pieces? Mathematically it should be $40. What do they charge? $50 (confirmed on their website). When I asked about this, they told me $50 is the price for 50 miniature desserts. Almost mechanical sounding. Trying to explain didn't help matters and it was suggested I order 2 orders of 36. It's not the $10, it's the ridiculousness of it. So, yes, I docked a star for poor mathematical skills. I find it irritating that I would be charged MORE per additional item than less (as is typically the case -- though I wouldn't even expect that in this circumstance since I'm not ordering a massive quantity). I haven't decided yet if it bothers me enough to order from someone else... (I also really wanted mini cupcakes and they don't offer those) -- it's not the money, rather the disturbing nature of the mathematical incompetence. read more

Although I was won over by another baker in town for several other reasons (more competitive price, better design), absolutely no one topped Cravings buttercream. It's insane. It's like ice cream. I would say Cravings is an accurate name for this place as I have not stopped thinking about and craving the strawberry shortcake I had there last night. We went for the wine pairing night and both the wine and food were delicious and it was a very enjoyable evening. The staff were all very friendly and hospitable and you felt more like you were at an intimate dinner party than a restaurant. I also attended a cooking class several weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. I will definitely be back, if not to just stock up on strawberry shortcakes! read more

I went here last weekend to indulge a little Valentines Day sweets craving, and I was not disappointed. I had a carrot cake that was absolutely heavenly. Not too sweet., the right amount of spice, good hunks of carrot, and wonderfully creamy icing. Top notch! My boyfriend had a chocolate mousse tart which he enjoyed, and he's not that big of a sweets person. We only went for dessert, so we didn't get to try anything from the "food" menu. My only complaint would be the prices. It was $5.50 for the carrot cake and $7.95 for the mousse! Steep in my book, but worth it for a special occasion. I was in town with a friend to visit another friend who lives in the area. We decided to stop here for lunch. It was on the early side and it appeared the only other people there were doing a cake tasting. We seated ourselves as directed and were quickly brought menus. I went with the soup of the day, a tomato soup. It came with fresh bread and an herbed butter. I was happy the soup was not cream based and the bacon and chunks of tomatoes added a nice texture. The bread was dense and good for sopping up the soup. The butter was too cold to spread on the bread so I didn't get much of a taste of it. I gave up trying to spread it! We only got dessert to go and did not eat there, although the menu looked interesting and I liked the vibe of the place. Carrot Cake was crazy good, but the kicker for me was the Hazelnut Zucotto. Hazelnut, chocolate, layered with cappucino and white chocolate mousse. Apparently was a James Beard winner at some point according to the sign. Not only is this place rocking with amazing desserts but we went with a large group for dinner and it was awesome. We tried a little bit of everything. For appetizers we got Thai pot stickers, shrimp in curry sauce (special), tomato and goat cheese bruschetta (special) and sweet potato ravioli (special). Each item I wanted more of and actually we all enjoyed it so much we did order seconds! Each dinner item came with an option of soup or salad. We all ended up getting a salad. I got the Caesar salad which was a special and it was the perfect pre dinner salad and was wonderful! Then for dinner....drum roll....I got the eggplant Parmesan. This is some of the best eggplant Parmesan that I have ever had, and let me tell you I've tried it many many places. It simply melted in your mouth and the flavor with each bite full was mind blowing. I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the food was considering this is known for the best part of meals....desserts! So after we all thought we had stuffed our bellies to the max, it was time for dessert. We had some of everything on the list (the joys of a big group!). My favorites were the carrot cake (rated one of the top in St. Louis), the apple pie with vanilla ice cream and then chocolate mouse. I didn't think it would be physically possible to eat as much as I did last night, but when something is so delicious, you can't help but eat it all up! When I went there with someone I knew from a previous employment, I was thoroughly disgusted with the food. We attempted to eat at the restaurant. I don't remember what he ordered, but he didn't like it. I ordered a Salad Nicoise. I couldn't believe that they would serve anyone what I had. It was raw red potatoes, raw green beans sitting on lettuce and a small amount of tuna still in the shape of the can that they opened and put it in the middle of the plate. The raw green beans and potatoes were arranged around the canned tuna. It was not appealing to me because the tuna looked like cat food, and the green beans and red potatoes were raw. I could not believe that they would serve food like that to anyone. Serving raw potatoes is a food safety issue because it's a member of the Hemlock family, and once there is any green in and under the skin of potatoes, that will make whoever eats it sick. Since I didn't eat that salad, I didn't take the chance of getting sick This was long enough ago that I hope that they changed the Salad Nicoise and improved it since I was served THAT; however, I have never been back because of the terrible food that I was served that particular day. I suggested it to my friend, and then was embarrassed that it was so bad. After that, I spoke to other people and they had told me that the restaurant part of the business wasn't very good. I wish that I had known that before I was there. I haven't been back since then and don't plan on going back either. read more

This is the best place in St Louis for desserts but I have to say that I was recently there for lunch on a visit to my hometown and that I had the BEST BLT I have ever eaten. The bread is a homemade sweet egg bread, the bacon thick and done absolutely perfectly and I could have eaten two if I'd had room..... Apparently there is a new chef there and the menu has changed. Now you would expect might be comp'ed for that sort of error and she did ask if we wanted a free dessert but at that point we had to get going and said no...so waitress did not think to maybe comp our sodas or something. We went to a 6 course wine pairing dinner here on January 19th and it was absolutely fantastic. I believe they are only open for dinner on the weekends, so I'd highly recommend making time. The restaurant is a little on the smaller side but not too loud to enjoy your company. I think they do these dinners monthly-ish but you can call them and ask. Their wine Rep was also helpful & the pours were generous. You can also order drinks from the bar. The food was excellent! Started with small samplings of roasted beets and a blue cheese app and worked its way up to a sweet potato ravioli in a brown butter sauce (mouth watering food). We also had small portions of beef stroganoff, stuffed peppers, and lamb chops. I could have eaten an entire bowl of the stroganoff and it's hard for me to find a lamb chop I don't like. Though the portions were small, I left full and satisfied. The dessert was a fudge cake with tiramisu--also delicious. Each wine complemented the dish well and you can also purchase the wines by the bottle or case for pickup at very affordable prices. 6 courses, delicious food and plenty of wine all for $55/head! Ate here once for dinner and it was great, but what I really want to talk about is my wedding cake! My husband and I met with Tim Brennan, the owner (a super nice and all around great guy), and Tim helped us create our dream wedding cake! We even had him put their homemade raspberry jam in between layers, talk about yum! Cravings also provided the desserts for our "sweets table" which unfortunately were gobbled up before I got to try any of them! There were a few things I made sure of on my wedding day, and one of them was that I got to sit down and eat a piece of cake, which I did! You can indulge in a chocolate fix or something different like the James Beard award winners. There are cookies not listed on the menu. Check the counter. The sun dried tomato tart is sinfully flaky. Sometimes I mix things up and get the mushroom tort for lunch (the lunch menu is extensive and really tasty) and the apple galette for dessert. I consider Cravings almost the equivalent of a 'boutique' restaurant...fantastic food, sophisticated desserts, locally owned and obviously committed to quality and fresh products. Even simple things, like the BLT on the lunch menu, are raised to a higher level. If your idea of a great dessert is something that needs to be double chocolate chip and smothered in whipped cream, this is not your place...the desserts are amazing! Tortes, cakes, cookies, brownies...the Carrot Cake and Lemon Bars are my favorites. Only open Friday and Saturday nights for dinner, but worth the wait. Always delicious, and a great local, quaint and friendly atmosphere. Ask the owner to make you a Cosmo, it's the best I've ever had! According to some articles pinned-up near the entrance, it is nationally recognized for desserts (People magazine, USA Today, etc.). Truly a St. Louis gem. read more
