Second thing, they make you tip only in cash so they made us take out money from an ATM, pay the atm fee just to tip them and even then they didn't have spare cash. This was worth the long drive! It's not local to me but I was very intrigued by the special 'friends' themed drinks. I went with the Ross blended-apple, cinnamon and caramel...it was awesome, I didn't really taste apple tho and my mom got chandler iced-toasted almond mocha and white chocolate-also very tasty! We split the pancake quesadilla, Hercules sandwich, avocado fries and loaded homies. The herb mayo on the Hercules sandwich really stood out, it was so flavorful-the whole combo with Brie and multigrain toast was really good. The pancake quesadilla was a little dry, maybe coulda used cheese (despite being a pancake) but I liked that it wasn't messy to eat. The loaded homies were my fav. The avocado fries were not super flavorful but avocados are generally mild. Service was pretty quick but our waitress wasn't that friendly-the hostess was extra nice tho! I wanted to like this place...I really did. I've had it bookmarked for well over a year. I finally went, and left with major disappointment. It started off well, and then went downhill. I ordered the almond joy latte. It was very delicious and came in a big mug! My boyfriend ordered a hot cocoa which he liked with the first few sips, and then he said it was very watery moments later. I ordered "eggs your way" which was supposed to be two eggs any style with home-fries and toast. You can get meat for an up-charge. I ordered it with chicken apple sausage. When the waitress asked me what kind of toast I wanted I said I wanted it on the side. She said there would be an up-charge for that, but she would make it cheap for me. Hm, what?! An up-charge for getting toast on the side when my meal comes with toast? Well...when my meal came out I was given an egg sandwich! I didn't order an egg sandwich. I wasn't able to send it back because no one came back to my table. Sigh. So I ate something I didn't even order. I was also disappointed that there was only ONE piece of sausage on my sandwich. I feel there should have been at least two pieces. My boyfriend ordered the corned beef old fashioned. Well, old fashioned it was. It was bland and flavorless. Eggs were alright. This place is unreal. We came New Year's Day. I think if we came while stony brook was in session we would never have been able to get in so I'm thankful we chose the day we did! To be honest, we came here for the wild lattes. The latte I ordered was surprisingly not overwhelmingly sweet. It was off their seasonal menu - the Yule log. Espresso is quality, and you can get any latte decaf! I also had it made iced which was the move. Topped with a mountain of whipped cream and a generous drizzle of marshmallow syrup...which comes in a few different, fun colors...it was instagram worthy. My husband ordered a regular old coffee, black. He said it was great. Food, though our secondary draw to come here, knocked it out of the park and is probably the reason we will return sooner than later. Portions are humongous. We literally ate only the food we ordered here for the entire day. Granted we started eating at noon. Took home more than half of our meals each and had the leftovers for dinner. I got the egg quesadilla. So freakin good. The chipotle sauce buddied up with the melty cheese made the perfect combination for my tongue. My husband ordered the pancake quesadilla - a wacky menu item - and it was so incredibly delicious. The best of both worlds: sweet and savory in one. The corned beef hash is next level. There are beautiful huge chunks of corned beef throughout. You don't even need to add salt and pepper or hot sauce. It is so tasty. I encourage any and all of you to try it. And though it had a sweet view outside, the bathroom door swings open inches from you and your food and face. Absolutely love this place, have been going for years. It is a great place to study on a weekday in the later afternoon with coffee and a sandwich. I love the ranch pesto wrap, pulled pork panini and the breakfast quesadilla. The coffee specials are also excellent -- the themes are always fun and the presentation is amazing, plus they always taste great. I will say the only item I don't recommend is the fried avocado appetizer. Maybe I got a bad batch but they fell apart super easy and were bitter. Most entrees don't come with a side which is inconvenient but you can order a dish for the table. Huge fans of this local eatery - their food is spot on! Definitely worth a regular spot in the rotation. Friendly staff, light hearted atmosphere, and the Stony Brook location is in the heart of the village with other stores to check out after indulging on some wonderful breakfast or lunch. Hercules sandwich is awesome, and the wife loves their breakfast pancake quesadilla (it is a monster - 2 huge pancakes with bacon and sausage cooked inside the pancakes, with scrambled eggs in the middle, with syrup, haha, super healthy). Super cool . I went here on Valentine's Day morning and I immediately got a table for 2. Upon arrival I was greeted by pleasant staff and was asked if I prefer booth, table or bar seating. Hand sanitizer station available at the door as well. I saw staff sanitizing tables and chairs in between patrons. I enjoyed the whole vibe of the place it was very retro kind of like the 1950-60's I suppose. My favorite thing about the place is their coffee mugs, they are deep, thick and not cheap mugs that you'll find elsewhere. The food was amazing and the coffee was great tasting. I don't usually give 5 stars and I would here but the only downfall was how the tips work. Tips are cash only and if you don't have any cash on you you gotta hit the atm that they "conveniently" have in the restaurant. Definitely a must try here. Food was not good had avocado toast barely any avocado on a piece of bread that was not even toasted. I really couldn't believe how little avocado they put on it it was not tasty at all. Also when I went to the bathroom it was filthy and disgusting. I hadn't been there for at least 5 years and very disappointed. The chairs were all sticky and dirty. They really need to freshen up and clean up. You pay $17 for a piece of toast with avocado on it there's barely any avocado on it very disappointed. Will not be visiting again. Really didn't want to knock off a star but had to... In my first review I ranted and raved about the excellent service but it seems that every time I come back, the service gets a little worse. The waitresses are sweet but I always feel rushed every time I go. Also, upon entering, we always need to actively find someone to tell them that we'd like a table (which is awkward/annoying). Regardless, the food/coffee/decor/everything else is still great, unique and I still love the place for what it is. Crazy Beans is the perfect combination of a retro/hipster coffee shop/diner. I've bean crazy about this place lately because of its cute mason jars, diner themed decorations, and large serving sizes. Their serving sizes won't disappoint, especially if you choose to get their reuben - it's good for 2 meals! My girlfriend and I dined in for some brunch. My girlfriend chose one of their monthly specials - the pumpkin French toast topped with bananas. The French toast was sweet, fluffy, and delicious. I had simple breakfast with two eggs, home fries, and marble rye toast. It was simple yet a perfect breakfast. Eggs were cooked to a perfect sunny side up. The home fries were very crispy but a bit too salty. The marble rye was fantastic. They've got great bread! The service was very quick and the prices were reasonable. This is a charming little coffee shop, part retro diner, part coffee shop. I had an americano which was just great and I ordered my husband a rainbow cookie latte. He said the flavors were a little strong but I'm still giving it five stars because to me it was awesome. My barista was very nice, she made the rainbow cookie latte extra hot because I told her I was driving from stonybrook to babylon. I have been wanting to come to Crazy Beans for a very long time. I had heard great things and the experience did not disappoint. As soon as I walked in I knew I would be in good hands and was going to have a nice time. My boyfriend and I came at the best time and were immediately seated at the counter. My boyfriend ordered the dark roast coffee and I ordered a latte with toasted marshmallow and toffee nut syrup. I was happy with the touches they gave my latte with the whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles on top. I saw photos of how pretty the coffees were and wanted to see what the hype was about, and so I went for the works. The coffees came in huge cups. It was a lot of coffee! Mine was perfect and just how I liked my latte. My boyfriend very much enjoyed his. The price for both was very reasonable and was less than we thought it was going to be. The Hercules was very good and was just what we were looking for for lunch, a sandwich that would tide us over until dinner but wouldn't make us terribly full as we often feel after a good brunch. I do wish however, that the sandwiches came with a side like French fries, potato salad, or a house salad. My boyfriend said that he could definitely see himself coming more often if it were closer. Like our favorite places, I think we'll end up driving out just to come here regardless of distance. My favorite go-to brunch spot in the Stony Brook/Port Jefferson area. The reason being is that the menu is not only large and offers a lot of choices, but everything that I've had was always delicious. One of the staples whenever I go here is to get one of their iced coffee drinks (my favorite is their sugar-free dark chocolate with skim milk since I find the non-sugar free ones are too sweet for me). My go-to favorites are their omelettes and the sandwiches. I think a lot of people compare this place to some of the more "famous" spots around the area, such as Maureen's Kitchen, Toast, Mundays, and Javier's Cafe. Let me start off buy saying the coffee is absolutely delicious! I usually get the chocolate strawberry latte with almond milk, which is tasty hot or cold. I've only had their breakfast, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but the egg quesadilla was awesome! Lots of cheese and I had avocado added, which made it even better. Service is good, everyone is very nice and the decor is kitschy and lovely. That being said, I didn't enjoy my fried chicken the last time I was there, so I might say that their food is good depending on what you get. The chicken wasn't dry, but it wasn't seasoned well. Also, my biggest gripe with this place is the size. This isn't something that's their fault, but if you're getting something to go, I always feel like I'm in the way. The place is small and we had to wait about 20mins for a table for 2- not a bad wait. Once we got seated and look at the menu- I noticed that everything is an up charge. Very limited combos and all items are a bit pricey. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs combo. The corned beef was real deal with the potatoes and the eggs were pretty good. It came with a single piece of toast. Coffee was a bit strong for my taste. Overall my dish was good, but don't think I'll be rushing back soon. After hearing about Crazy Beans from a friend, we finally got there for brunch on New Year's Eve. We only waited about 15 minutes for a table which, from what I've heard about wait times, is great. The waitress was friendly and very attentive and took our drink ordered right away. Once the drinks came we ordered our food and it came out pretty quickly. My friend and I shared the loaded homies which were awesome. I love a good loaded potato! Then for my meal I had the Huevos Locos burrito. It was so good! The over easy eggs really made it. I've had many breakfast burritos but always with some kind of scrambled eggs inside. The yolk and the secret Crazy Beans sauce was amazing together. I also had an iced coffee special called "Its a Wonderful Life"; caramel, cinnamon and vanilla. A little sweet but so delicious. My friend had the Southwest Burger which she said was delicious but wasn't as crazy about the coffee she ordered. She actually sent the first one back and the second wasn't any better. Neither had any flavor and just tasted like plain coffee. The restaurant is very cute (but tiny) and I enjoyed the food. My only gripe was that we waited at the counter a good 8-10 minutes before anyone came over to check us out. Many girls walked right passed us and didn't even acknowledge that we were there. I've been to this place twice and both times I've walked out content. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and is always busy, which says a lot. There's not many places like this around Stony Brook which I think is why it is popular to the students. One of my favorite things about this place is the variety of flavors of lattes that it offers. Another, is the kindness of the waitresses. The second time I came here, my friend ordered the Rainbow Cookie latte which tasted more like cough syrup, but our waitress offered her a choice of another latte which is super sweet and she made it out of her way to satisfy her customers. If you don't know what to get, I recommend the friend pickles, pancake quesadilla, and Toasted marshmallow latte. The sweet potato tater tots are pretty interesting. Refusing, or posturing to refuse a legitimate gift card is illegal in New York State General Business (GBS) Section 396-I. There is absolutely nothing ambiguous about this law. It is explicit. I don't care what the store policy is, they need to follow the law. Accepting our gift card after much argument with management was not an act of kindness, it was Crazy Beans following the law like we all expect them to. This conduct is unacceptable, and illegal. I love the breakfast here! First of all, the toast. Weird thing to rave about, but their multigrain toast is so good that I wish they sold that bread by the loaf! The bacon and eggs were amazing. Also, I'm not really a pancake person but their blueberry pecan pancakes are amazing. Finally, go for the Hawaiian Coconut coffee. It came with 3 slices of bacon that were crispy but seemed like the microwaveable kind and the omelette that they added a slice of American cheese on top instead of cooked in seemed like the egg in container but I could be wrong.
