Stopped in for a late breakfast and was really surprised at how cozy the restaurant is. Every staff member is super friendly! It's hard to make a decision because everything looks good on the menu. The schnitzel dish was definitely the highlight! The hummingbird cake was a close second. I will say the place was very busy and there was a long wait for our food. Come here when you have time to order a drink and linger. That's what we like to do for a weekend breakfast outing anyways. My husband and I were very impressed at this cozy little restaurant. Service was quick and very friendly. Definitely got a familial vibe as the staff were all helping each other out. I ordered the Sticky Chicken - delicious fried chicken with honey BUTTA, a huge homemade biscuit and grits as my side. They are stone ground grits so definitely coarser than the ultra rich creamy ones you'd find at The Chimes brunch but I really enjoyed them! Maybe some sour cream since they had a tanginess to them? Everything was yummy and I couldn't believe the meal was only $7! Husband got the schnitzel - another tasty dish! First try today on this breakfast/lunch restaurant in Mandeville. In a nutshell, the service, the food & the decor / table placement all excellent. The owners were both present. Our waitress, Heather, was great on explaining the menu and kept our coffee cups full ! I'll post pictures of the decadent cinnamon roll, the "BooYa" biscuit sandwich & the "Crazy Pig" omelet. Prices are in-line for other north-shore breakfasts. Menu has a lot of choices. Grits were so very creamy, potatoes were seasoned perfectly and praline bacon was like dessert for breakfast. Definitely worth battling the road work on Rt 22 to get there from Covington. We will be back again soon. Dying to try the Chicken & waffles. read more

The southern kitchen part of the name is on the mark. It's decor is homey and is more like sitting in your grandma's kitchen with lots of natural light and southern charm. If you're lucky like I was, you might even have Auntie Briana serving you your food like my mom still does whenever I visit. The service was much better than I would have expected for a place so new. They have found a way to bypass the growing pains you typically are victim of when you visit new places. The service was on point and the food was like somebody sent grandma to culinary school and she refused to take the grandma part out of her cooking and stepped her gourmet game up to the next level. Or something like that. Nothing prepared by Sysco here and I'm not sure how this works given the menu price point being so low compared to the quality of the food. Maybe grandma is still thinking about the Great Depression and wants us to have money left to bury in the back yard in case it happens again. About the food, and food is life for me, you're gonna want to put grandma nem on heavy rotation after you have the Fried Green Tomatoes with Bronzed Shrimp. The tomatoes with the Crema it comes with can stand on their own without the shrimp. This caused me problems because I could not decide if I wanted to eat the tomatoes by themselves or with a piece of shrimp so I just alternated. I also had their Sticky Chicken Biscuit which was a homemade biscuit split in half and grilled drizzled with syrup with the biggest piece of fried chicken I've ever seen sitting on top of a biscuit. This thing comes with grits or breakfast potatoes. Grandma must think her grandkids are too skinny and is low-key trying to give them some cushion because this is a whole lot of food for what proclaims to be a chicken biscuit. Check the picture for reference. It confused me too because the chicken had been marinated, you see, and I could taste the seasoning all the way through. Chicken solo or chicken with grilled biscuit, or biscuit by itself in my mouth? There is no one good answer. My son had praline bacon which was yummy and the biscuit with strawberry preserves and at least half of all my food because the servings were southern grandma sized. Grandma is just going to have to keep thinking I'm too skinny because I was not and could not eat it all. I also had a bite of their cinnamon roll and I could taste butter. I'm going to heat that up and finish it off later because anything that tastes like butter or bacon is worth the extra jiggle to me. If you have to choose between grits or some other side get the grits. They were creamy and stayed this soft consistency the whole time. How did grandma do that? I think I tasted heavy cream and whatever gave them the flavor and consistency must be akin to that recipe that grandma won't share with anyone except her favorite grandchild who is sworn to secrecy. Okay that's enough to make into a Telenova, but I'm a foodie and you get the idea...nobody does it like grandma does - except this place! And oh yeah, they close at 2:30 and serve the breakfast menu all day. I suggest you go at a time where you can partake in both menus because variety is the spice of life, and food is life, of course. read more

The tester Aunt was very clean and the staff were all very friendly not to mention you could visibly see all of them working together as a team. I've had chicken sandwiches from everywhere BUT this "Kickin' Chicken" sandwich was the best- no question! Cobb salad (I forget what they named it on the menu) was big & Beautiful & fresh & loved the different ways the ingredients were cut (shape of veggies, etc). Food phenomenal. Owners present. Excellent waffles, eggs cooked (properly) to order, biscuits and English muffins great, bacon and sausage of high quality and cooked very well. Wait staff was overwhelmed, but will hopefully improve with time. Place is new, only open three weeks now and undergoing growing pains. Patrons will benefit from being aware of said growing pains in advance of arrival. Don't show up here on a weekend morning if you're on a tight schedule. Show up with an expectation of waiting a bit for a table and waiting a bit for your food after it's ordered. Bring good company with a sense of humor. Some of this may be mitigated with efficiency considerations by the management and staff, and will be handled as the establishment gains experience. I'm visiting from out of town and will definitely be returning when in town. To the management (if you see this): No matter what, greet everyone who walks in the door as soon as possible and give them a reasonable expectation of a wait time. I have only 3-4 places to choose from for brunch in Mandeville and 2 of them I usually avoid because the service sucks! I'm so happy to find this little gem. The food was awesome but the atmosphere and the staff was really what sold me. If you're lucky you'll end up with Briane for a waitress she was so nice, especially to my two boys. I won't lie they were a little more pricey than my normal places (esp since I don't mind giving a big tip for our service) but it was worth it. The only thing I didn't like were the grits. They weren't bad I'm just a texture person and I'm not a fan of gritty grits. I like my grits smooth but the potatoes will do next time. The biscuits are huge and tasty. I thought there were two biscuits on my plate! I'll definitely be back. read more

We are back home from Utah to visit family and took a chance on this new place with just a few reviews. Holy camoly! This is hands down the BEST breakfast we have ever had. I am thankful I don't live here anymore because I would be big and fluffy eating here everyday. I ordered the sticky fingers and my husband ordered the cpsk hash. The biscuits are fresh and grilled on one side making them melt in your mouth. The chicken had just the right amount of batter on it and nice and juicy. We also ordered a side of gravy, of my goodness, seriously the best ever. We decided to take home 2 cinnamon rolls because they looked divine.
