Well before it's charming renovation, back to when it had leather bar stools at the bakery counter and Jim in the back making the best apple fritters you've ever had. I come whenever I'm in town and it's always good. I think more than anything I come for the nostalgia. The Rice Krispie treats are always a solid pick and I enjoy them a lot. Same with the smiley face cookies, the bakery frosting is the best. I got a parfait for the first time since high school though and was sorely disappointed. They used to use wake robin yogurt (which I do remember them discontinuing some years ago), but now the yogurt is SO sweet. Overall it makes the parfait too sweet with the homemade granola and blueberry coulis. I couldn't help but notice how much smaller the parfait portions are too. They used to be full sized cups and now they're nearly half their former size which was definitely disappointing considering the price has certainly not gone down. In summary, the bakery will always hold a special place in my heart. Been going since I was a baby. The treats are good, sandwiches are solid, and they have a wide variety of beverages. There were three large-ish pretzels and enough chocolate and Reese's that I didn't really taste the salt of the pretzel but not so much that it was overwhelming. My friend got the peanut butter chocolate fudge. She said it was good, and coming from her that's saying something. I though it was good too. It was a softer fudge and was mostly chocolate with globs of peanut butter. I would have spread the peanut butter out more but that's just me. We also got a caramel vanilla coffee and that was good as well. I am very picky about coffee so it was nice to find something different that I liked. Overall, it was a good stop and I would love to be back and try new things. TLDR: Good food and good coffee, would go back.

Stopped in to buy cookies with a friend. The girl behind the counter waited on the friend first…read more The girl was wearing gloves, reached in an grabbed the cookies, put them in a box and rang the friend up, taking cash and counting back the change. Then came my turn for my cookies, I told her what I wanted and the girl proceeded to pick my cookies out, without changing her gloves. I ended up paying for the cookies because I didn't want to embarrass my friend, and when I got a chance I called the bakery and complained. It is nasty to handle food after handling money! It's disgusting and when I received a very nonchalant response from the bakery, I reached out on Instagram. The response there was that they were, too, disgusted and would be addressing this with that employee, and would refund the $16 I spent on the cookies. They never did and I will not go back. They may have really good cookies, but their hygiene policy sucks!

It's pretty cool, then, to see new little spots like Daisy's popping up right after the new bike and pedestrian trail built over the old trolley line opened. Coincidence? Maybe! But if you're passing through rural Rensselaer county on your bike and feeling a little peckish, then Daisy's is an excellent new breakfast and lunch option just a short distance off the trail. Daisy's is brand new, so there are still kinks to work out -- our lovely waitress was struggling with her fancy electronic ordering machine, and there was a lot of confused running around in the kitchen. The food, though, was absolutely solid. My mom was a bit skeptical about the price of her BLT before she ordered, but took it back once she received her gigantic sandwich made with perfectly fresh ingredients and served with a mound of some of the tastiest Mac salad that either of us had ever had (plus a bag of chips!). My cup of the soup of the day was hot and flavorful (if slightly over over salted). The weakest link in the whole meal was the oddly soft hard roll for my breakfast sandwich: I'd ask for it toasted next time. Daisy's also serves local Tierra Farms coffee, which is a nice touch, and there were some really nice-looking treats in the pastry case. Overall this is a super cute little place that does a pretty good job of hitting the sweet spot between an old-fashioned small-town diner and a more modern cafe (with plans to add more vegetarian/vegan options to the menu). The service is great and super quick, that staff are super nice. I tend to grab their indi or medi jar to go and it's great for eating while working. They have some nice booth seating if you want to stay away from work and eat there. Very quiet and nice to sit and catch up with people.
