Dr Lockhart examined me and suggested a sleep study. So I did that and it turned out that I was holding my breath for over 10 seconds, 27 times a night. He suggested an oral device to help me sleep better. OMG! This is a life changer. Now that I am sleeping well, I have more energy in the day. I have asthma and soundly I don't wheeze in the morning. Dr. Lockhart is a dentist. He is Not an Orthodontist, ENT, Cardiologist, or any other type of physician. He is Unqualified to Diagnose "Life-Threatening Sleep Apnea," much less treat it. In my case, that is what Dr. Lockhart did. He used fear tactics and misrepresented data. He prescribed the Meridian PM appliance (I later learned it's only intended for nighttime use) to be worn for nine months, at least 20 hours a day, and removed only for cleaning and eating. After diligently following his protocol, I now have a Severe Posterior Open Bite (POB). As a result of Dr. Lockhart's treatment, I have no biting surface, and None of my Teeth Align. It's been a journey of suffering, combined with Dr. Lockart's lack of concern or taking responsibility for what I endured. I trusted Dr. Lockhart and now know I shouldn't have. And so, my hope for this review is to help others avoid such a treatment. More details of the story for those who'd like to know: Based on a questionnaire, a cat scan conducted by Dr. Lockhart, and a home sleep study prescribed and interpreted by him, he falsely diagnosed me with "life-threatening sleep apnea." He breached his duty to me as a patient and was negligent in his failure to refer. If he genuinely believed that I had a life-threatening condition, he was ethically mandated by his license to refer me to proper care. He chose instead to charge me many thousands of dollars for treatment. The at-home sleep study he prescribed is available on Amazon for one-third the price he charged and is not medically recognized as a valid diagnostic tool. I don't know if he was motivated by greed. But I know that one year later, I am still being treated to fix the damage he caused at a considerable expense. Dr. Lockhart informed me that Invisalign would fix this. I sought other opinions. The first orthodontist referred me to a surgeon who felt the severity of the problem warranted jaw surgery, not just orthodontic treatment. And none of the other experts in dentistry, orthodontics, otolaryngology, or oral and facial surgery (DDS, MS) dispute the damage I experienced resulting from the Meridian PM treatment. I researched Arrowhead Dental, the Meridian PM appliance manufacturer, to find that this device's intended use is ONLY for Nighttime Use. It was Not Intended to be worn as prescribed by Dr. Lockhart. Arrowhead Dental told me they had discontinued the device because of "low demand." I hope by sharing my story, you will not endure the suffering I have due to Dr. Lockhart's Negligence. read more

It is hard to share the horrific experience I went through with Dr. Lockart's treatment. Hopefully sharing it helps someone not to go through the unnecessary torture I went through with Dr. Lockhart. I found him on RealSelf.com. I had some issues due to previous orthodontics and Invisalign, which he said he could fix. He said he saw cases like mine everyday. He proposed a treatment to expand my jaw with an appliance to be followed by braces for $11,000 plus. I agreed, because he made it sound like he had a lot of experience with cases like mine. He started me with a FAGGA (Fixed Anterior Guidance Appliance). It was an extremely painful experience, the appliance put severe pressure on my front teeth it started to pull my front teeth out of the socket, making one front tooth look really long. I sent the office a picture to the tooth, they asked me to come in. He was out that day and asked one of his assistants to remove the fixed appliance. When I walked into the office the assistant saw my tooth she immediately called him and told him what the appliance had done. I was in shock that he wanted his assistant to do his job. He ended up showing up and splinting my teeth. I was very upset he put me through a lot of pain. I had paid him $5,000 for that appliance that almost caused me to loose a tooth. Several times I had decided to leave his office, but every time his office staff would call me and insist that Dr. Lockhart with his expertise could help me. Did he do the right thing and reimbursed me no. He charged me another $4,000 plus more for another appliance, the Meridian P.M. I ended up with a posterior open bite. I could not chew my food at all which caused me many stomach issues, which I had never had before. My head aches were worst than ever. I mentioned all this to him and was very dismissive about the problems he had caused me. He said all this could be fixed with Invisalign, another ($6,500). When I first went to him he said he was going to do braces since Invisalign would definitely not work for my case. After he was done torturing me with the appliances he suggested Invisalign which at the beginning of the treatment he was against. Later on I saw that he became a Gold Provider, it then became clear why he put the Invisalign on me. Dentist become a higher Invisalign tier based on the amount of Invisalign cases. The Invisalign treatment did not work for me, even after 3 refinements my bite was worst, I still could not chew anything. I was living on smoothies and oatmeal. I lost a lot of wait. I wrote him an email that I could no longer endure that torture. He was looking for his interest not mine. Before I ended the treatment with Dr. Lockhart I saw an article a lady, Alysa Luck wrote about him where he also pulled her teeth out of socket. During my treatment I asked for before and after pictures of other cases. He only had one of a child. That should have been a red flag. Also there are a lot of articles on AGGA cases and other appliances that have caused people to loose healthy teeth. As others have stated he is not an Orthodontist or MD. read more
