We're about to close on a new home and are in need of lots of renovation materials at deep discounts. So for Valentine's Day we shopped around and made plans for our new home together -- a bit of dreaming and a bit of reality. He had heard about Builders Surplus, and what we found was aisle after aisle of basic home items. We are focusing most of our attention on bathroom and kitchen re-dos. Builders Surplus had lots of stone and laminate countertops to look at -- most in the $30-per-square-foot range. (Countertops at other stores have been more in the $50 to $80 range.) Similarly, Builders Surplus had some great prices on tile. In particular, I found large square marble-looking tile that would be great for a bathroom floor for $1.29 square foot compared to much more at big box stores, which we ventured to after Builders Surplus, providing some great cost comparisons. Builders Surplus also had a large selection of bathroom and kitchen sinks and bases for bathroom sinks. Plus, many of the bathroom sink bases are made with unfinished wood, making it easy to paint the base to fit with the bathroom. We got to Builders Surplus about 20 minutes before closing, so we were rushed to see it all. I'm holding out my fifth star for when we go back and make some very fun purchases.

We decided to tile the bathrooms, and a tile backsplash in the kitchen. We had done some preliminary snooping at The Tile Shop, and Jafar Bey was helping with the walk around. He was very helpful, the in store models helped with filling in some of the blanks, and prices ran through the spectrum. If you want high end, it's there, if you want an economical selection, they have that too. We returned about a week later with our plan drawings. Jafar went to work, while we refined our design choices. He helped us with more economical choices and an extra discount on one of the rooms. We are some months away from the tiling phase of construction, so a few weeks lead time isn't a problem. I would suggest that you plan a bit ahead, especially in these times. I would recommend The Tile Shop, and Jafar Bey for your tiling project in Louisville.
