Love Creekwood! And I cannot believe I have not yet written a review. Staff are exceptionally friendly. The bar area allows one to sit right in front of the chef and crew to watch it happen. (Note: do not sit directly across from the pizza oven unless you like the heat... I almost got a sunburn). Favorites: Gnocchi hands down Fried chicken and biscuits! Creekwood is open during COVID-19 Shelter in Place! We got takeout recently and it was delicious! If you go to the restaurant site, you can order Delivery and/ or Takeout. For Takeout, you can order through either Caviar or Toast. We ordered through Toast as it allowed us to pre-order our food before Creekwood opened at 5pm. We placed an order around 4pm for pickup at 5pm, got there at 5:08pm, and our food was ready to go! A very seamless experience. We got the Margherita Pizza, Mushroom Pizza, and Carnitas Calzone! Loved all, especially the Mushroom Pizza and the Calzone. I'm not sure if the Calzone is always on their menu but it should be, really good. The best Italian I've had in Berkeley. This place is the perfect romantic night out spot. The lighting is dim with candles at each table, the bar seating is a great experience. You get to watch the chefs prepare all the foods and the oven keeps the temperature nice and toasty around the bar tops. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet, she made our dinning experience very enjoyable. The food is simple divine. We had the calamari - delicious. It had potatoes and arugula, the lemon added the perfect touch of zest. Every bite bursted with complimentary flavors. The ragu pasta was hands down the best dish we tried. The pastas were cooked to absolute perfection with a nice chew. The sauce was spectacular, and made for a perfect pizza crust dipping sauce!! We got the margarita pizza, fairly good as well. Didn't come in with any expectations. I always saw it on my drive to and from work and wanted to try at some point. Guess important tip for anyone who does want to try out Creekwood, make a reservation. They are normally pretty filled and have a limited number of tables. Managed to get a few chairs at the "bar" area with view of the kitchen. No issues with service. Checked in every once in a while and it never felt overbearing. Water refilled before the glass finished. Onto the majority of the review. Be prepared for a wait. I think it ended up taking close to 40 minutes before our entrees were ready. The appetizers were going out of the kitchen at a pretty regular rate so maybe get an appetizer to tide you over while waiting for your meal. Ordered the lamb and duck. The lamb was cooked medium rare (how I like it and what I ordered) but it was hard to get through. Lots of fat on it felt like I really had to tear to get the meat off. The risotto was good but did leave a pile of oil at the end. The duck had a strong smoke flavor and overall better than the lamb. The big issue with both dishes were that the components were only warm when they came out. Would have expected more of a "hot" temperature. Given the seats we could watch the dishes come out so it wasn't like they were sitting on the counter for an extended period of time. Overall was a bit underwhelmed by the food. The presentation was beautiful and some components were better than others. Might come back to try some other dishes, the pizza looked pretty good, but in not a hurry to return. read more

I thought vibes were cute and all, but was a bit disappointed in the pizza I got. It had potatoes on it but it wasn't well integrated into the pizza like Jupiter's does it. I could still see the peels on it and they weren't really salted/seasoned at all. Besides that though, loved the crab ravioli and cameroni. The crab ravioli had great flavors but way too much sauce (wish there was some bread to soak up the sauce); maybe the sauce could have made the pizza taste better. A $54 ribeye steak should be cooked to the temperature you requested. Asked for medium rare and on the rare side. The steak was medium. The server was good throughout the night but wished he came by earlier to asked how we were doing. The steak was edible but would have sent it back if I was asked how I was doing earlier. I just had dinner here and can't stop thinking about this gem. My original idea was to have a simple dinner with a light salad and a pizza, but once my date and I arrived, we were blown away by the variety of the menu - everything sounded delicious. I'm amazed by the variety of dishes, cute ambience, and reasonable prices. It's got the neighborhood vibe where its super friendly and casual, but has just the right dimly lit setting to make it a romantic and semi fancy treat. Everything we ordered was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and plated beautifully: - Black cod had a tasty beurre blanc sauce that just went so well with the sun choke. - Brussels sprout praline is a must. My absolute new favorite restaurant! The owners (Mark & Greg) are literally the nicest human beings I have ever met. They are extremely friendly and they actually go above and beyond in making sure you have a great experience. I started off with the delicious crostini and a glass of red wine. Then followed it up with the pesto gnocchi which was out of this world. The pesto here is the best that I have ever had. Do try the fall fruit crisp dessert. This place is a 30 mile drive for me but it was totally worth it! I cannot wait to be back with more friends to share my experience. Please try this place if you haven't already. Super pleased to find this new little gem in Berkeley on Sacramento St! A friend brought me here for brunch on a late Saturday morning. There weren't too many people and we were able to sit at the counter immediately. I ordered the french toast with sausage patties on the side and it was SMACKIN'! The french toast was nice and fluffy with fresh strawberries and a sweet drizzle on top. The sausage patties came out nice and hot and were delicious as well. The waiters and servers checked on us often and always refilled our water glasses before they were empty. I will definitely be back soon to try other menu items! read more

Other reviews are right! This is a HIDDEN GEM It's so cute, great food, reasonable prices. Found it last minute on yelp and I am not sorry. All the staff were friendly and down to earth. Next time, I plan to bring my Doberman, the outside seating is great for dog owners I had no problem parking right out front and most people were using Uber from what I saw. The place looks great, very warm host and waiter. there were 3 of us. - Starters: - beet salad. was good blah - Brussel sprouts deep fried ...why? - Burrata salad unremarkable, not enough balsamic reduction. Salt needed. - the Cesar ( sort of ) salad was bland, needed salt, less raw onions. mains: -Hamburger was fair, too many raw onions, nice brioche bun, fries very greasy, I think the frier oil needs to be refreshed, dip your spoon in it to check, chef - mussels were mediocre, how can one wreck muscles? broth barely there, there was sand in my mussels, low flavor profile, Pernod anyone? - lamb was raw, we ordered it medium +, very gamey tasting, risotto under the lamb was fine. imhad To ask them to clear table when we were done and was met with a touch of annoyance. No mention of dessert , check came, we left. We've biked past this place and it looked so cute I made reservations for the outdoor seating. The outdoor space is a little cold (despite the space heaters) and a bit loud (due to the street traffic), but overall a really pleasant experience. The food was really solid! I always go into dinner kind of expecting it to be ok, not great, but this was good! We had the steak and pork chop and really enjoyed both. We got the burrata which had great flavors and the mussels - which were good but not great. The broth the mussels were cooked in was really good but somehow the mussels didn't get much of that flavor. We also got the lamb chops and cod. Cod was absolutely excellent from the crispy outside to the extremely tender meat and the eggplant puree thing it was served with. The lamb chops were very good but needed a bit more of the herb olive oil sauce and a lot less of the risotto which somehow didn't quite marry the lamb. We also got gelato which was a very large scoop. Overall I would definitely come back here. Meal and service was solid. Bonus points that they were also kid friendly. read more

We came here on a Saturday night for a birthday get-together. From among those sitting near me, I got to try the lamb shank (my order), the prime rib (my husband's order), the pappardelle (my friend's order), the agnolotti (my other friend's order), and the gnudi (our appetizer). My order was basically a big delicious pile of meat on a bed of polenta and topped with some greens. The lamb meat fell right off the bone, and there was a big chunk of delicious bone marrow inside the bone I was able to slurp up (not the most ladylike, but it was worth it). I would have preferred some more flavor in the meat itself and the polenta, but it was so tender that I couldn't really hold it against the dish. Oh, and for those sensitive to the lamb taste, I didn't find it very overpowering at all. My husband's prime rib dish was very well-flavored, all parts of it. The meat itself was tender and well-cooked, the smashed potatoes were nice and crispy, and the kale was also delicious. In terms of flavor, I definitely think the prime rib was superior to the lamb shank. However, there were a couple parts of the prime rib that were REALLY raw, like basically uncooked (though my husband ordered medium rare). The chef was able to heat up the parts that were uncooked, but I would have hoped it could come out right the first time. The gnudi was unimpressive, unfortunately. It kind of just tasted like a mozzarella stick in a fried sphere form. I've never had gnudi, but my other friends, who also tried the gnudi, informed me it wasn't what they expected either. I don't think I'd order it again. I thought both of the pastas were really tasty; the pappardelle with mushroom had that delicious umami mushroom taste. I personally feel like that dish could have used some meat, but it was exploding with flavor. The agnolotti was also pretty good, although it seemed like there wasn't much food in comparison to my lamb shank or even the pappardelle. Next time, I'd definitely like to order a full plate of pasta for myself, rather than picking off my friends' plates! read more

I had a lovely dinner here with my boyfriend. It's a cute neighborhood spot with very good food. I'd recommend: - FRIED GNUDI - GRILLED RIBEYE - cooked perfectly. I wouldn't recommend - SPECK pizza - too spicy! There were a few things that felt off in our dining experience. Since this is a more upscale casual restaurant, I feel liberty in being more critical. - When we first came in, there was a man teaching a younger lady the ins and outs of working front of house. We waited a good 2-3 minutes for them to notice us. I don't expect her to be a perfect host since she was clearly learning, but we thought it was strange that the man who was teaching her didn't say anything. - SEATING: They seated us at a weird table, all the way to the right of the restaurant where there are no other diners. It's actually next to a bench where people wait for their to-go orders. There shouldn't be a table there. My partner and I joked that it's because we're queer and Asian that we got a shitty table. - Service was a hit or miss. The man serving us was very polite and efficient, but the man who took our plates away was gruff and distracted. There were still 2 pieces of ribeye on our plate when we were eating and he was almost gonna take it away! - The Speck Pizza has too many Calabrian chilies, and this is coming from a Thai person. I can handle the heat, but I don't want that level of spicy for Italian food. read more
