Spent a lovely evening with some friends for a casual "bachelorette" dinner. My friends got a few appetizers each for their entrees and shared a pizza for an appetizer. I have been going keto, so I didn't partake in the pizza even though it looked delicious. I got a glass of red wine which was nice, and the lamb chops with the fennel and asparagus. I loved the medley of veggies. So delicious, unique, with crunchy and refreshing texture and wonderful flavors. The lamb chop was perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. Great service, we were checked on frequently and genuinely cared for. Also, nice ambiance and modern decor. We celebrated our wedding anniversary at this wonderful restaurant. Waitstaff. OMG, it's not often that I applaud this loud on the customer service at restaurants. Kevin is pleasant, gracious & anticipates your next moves. He smiled all evening long and made sure his service was a "10". And yes, it was a "10", so much he needs to train other waiters at other restaurants! The food was amazing. We wanted an assortment to share so we went heavy on the appetizers: grilled squid, meatballs, fried cheese. They were all perfect & quickly became faves. The rib eye was ordered medium rare, but due to the slicing, became medium. It was still delicious. We accompanied that dish with the stuffed artichokes. A delicious addition! Our neighboring table shared a special glass of red wine with us from Italy and once Kevin found out it was our anniversary he brought us a delicious scoop of salted caramel gelato. Yes, we indulged! This is my favourite kind of restaurant: cozy and warm environment, friendly and non overbearing service, a well thought menu, serving decent food. I have to admit: looking at a menu with pizza, burgers and risotto always makes me scared of the food quality. Are they trying to do too much to please a too wide of an audience which almost always fails? I'm glad to report, Creekwood didn't fail. Creekwood doesn't pretend to be something it is not: a super fancy quasi Michelin star restaurant and then failing miserably on delivery. I've seen plenty of those in this neighbourhood. While I agree with some of the other reviewers here that most of the items I had in our visit were under salted in my opinion, the rest of the experience made up for it. The burrata and heirloom tomato salad as very well dressed and balanced and the charred Brussels sprouts were very nicely done without too much olive oil added to make them crispy. The pork sausage ragu was very nicely rounded without being too heavy, keeping the nice flavour profiles of port sausage intact. The only disappointment of the night was the king salmon risotto. The salmon was under seasoned and had a hint of beetroot taste (over used for colouring I guess) as well as being slightly over cooked, almost making it dry. The panna cotta was also very creamy but not too much and without the usual extra gelatine added to make it more robust and increase the shelf live. Overall, Creekwood is a very pleasant place for a quite, cosy and warm night with friends and family in a relaxed environment with the added bonus of great food and good wine selection. You wouldn't expect to see this restaurant in this particular area. However it is a very cute neighborhood gem. Service from the start was attentive but not overbearing. We got the burrata which had great flavors and the mussels - which were good but not great. The broth the mussels were cooked in was really good but somehow the mussels didn't get much of that flavor. We also got the lamb chops and cod. Cod was absolutely excellent from the crispy outside to the extremely tender meat and the eggplant puree thing it was served with. The lamb chops were very good but needed a bit more of the herb olive oil sauce and a lot less of the risotto which somehow didn't quite marry the lamb. We also got gelato which was a very large scoop. Overall I would definitely come back here. Meal and service was solid. Bonus points that they were also kid friendly. read more

Came here last night for dinner based upon the suggestion of my date, who ironically had never been here but was craving Italian and saw the reviews were good for Creekwood. I made a reservation for 6:30, which it turns out, was not necessary at the time since the restaurant was still pretty empty. However 30mins into our meal, the entire place filled up really quickly with hungry patrons. Located in a part of town that I really did not expect to find a nice restaurant in, both my date and myself thought the GPS was possibly misdirecting us or we had entered the wrong address. However sure enough, upon passing by, there was Creekwood. A very nice looking establishment on a busy street (car traffic wise) surrounded by rickety residential buildings and some random small businesses with metal bars for windows. There are plenty of free, street parking nearby. And service here was very prompt, attention, and consistently checked in on us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Being that I had just come from a friend's birthday where we had Korean BBQ, I was not overly hungry, so both me and my date decided it would be best if we split a pizza. While everything on the menu looked great, we ultimately decided to go with the Nduja. A delicious oven baked pizza consisting of spicy pork sausage, sundried tomatoes, fontina cheese, and potato cream. The pizza was a thin crust, and was a pretty decent size for both me and my date to share. While pretty to look at, the real treat was the sheer burst of flavor present in each bite we took. An amazingly delicious pork sausage, mixed with just the right amount of cheese and other flavors, with a nice kick of spiciness to top it all of. While the staff made no attempt to rush us out the door, it was clear from the patrons waiting that this place is popping and they were eager to take our spot. If you happen to be in Berkeley looking for a nice dinner spot for a date or SO, I would highly recommend Creekwood! However you may want to book a reservation to make sure you can snag a table. read more

I would honestly say that this is a 5 star must-visit Italian restaurant in Berkeley for the price. Super reasonable price with a nice ambience and location near the Berkeley Marina. The service is great and the food is even better. Like others, we really enjoyed the fried gnudi. This is kind of a crude way of describing it, but it's like a softer, higher quality and less greasy mozzarella stick. The cheese is good and goes well with the marinara sauce. I do wish there was a little bit more marinara sauce with this dish because it was just so good. Theme of this restaurant is that the sauces are excellent. The squid was pretty good. There wasn't a ton of squid but it was great quality. The potatoes and greens that came with it are super tasty. I wouldn't say that this dish is a must-try but it was definitely good and I'd order it again. For my main entrée I got the cameroni. This reminded me of pasta dishes in Italy. I think the noodles are homemade. They're nice and thick - I don't think you can buy anything like them at the store. The sauce is the best part of this dish in my opinion, a thick sauce with tons of ground pork. It's extremely filling so I wouldn't eat too much bread. I was initially on the fence about ordering the dessert because I've never been a huge carrot cake guy. This cake will literally make you into a carrot cake guy, it's so good. Really thick moist cake with a sweet lightly tart cream, which goes amazingly well with the ice cream. The ice cream really makes this dish 5 stars. The meatballs were really tender with a savory marinara sauce. The oysters were fresh. The pizza had a super thin crust and was excellent! For my main, I had the pesto gnocchi. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. No wait time, and came with a pup! They were very accommodating & had a seat right outside. To my surprise, their brunch menu was slim- but had the essentials such as a Fried chicken sando, fried eggs + hash brown + a type of meat, vege scramble, etc. We tried the: Purgatorio: this was very hearty & delicious! My first time trying this dish & to my surprise, it was soo good. The way I can describe it is.. it's a skillet-baked spicy tomato sauce with two soft baked eggs. It also comes with an ample amount of bread so you can dip it in the divine sauce. Fried chicken sandwich: the chicken was tender & seasoned well & was smothered with delicious slaw in between two brioche buns. The side salad was a spinach dressed in tasty balsamic dressing. On top of the great food That we had, our servers were really nice & genuine. + the bathroom was clean which is always a +++ Only downside is that our check took a while to close out- probably because we sat outside.. which is expected. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Creekwood this evening. To be really honest, our group had two kids who were a little nervous about the menu options. They were the first to start praising the food (meatball appetizer that came with "the best garlic bread EVER"), and the praises kept coming as dinner and dessert arrived. Wonderful new spot! Love everything about this place down to their salted butter that comes with their complementary bread. They were a full house at 7:30pm on a Friday night so I'd suggest making a reservation. Service was excellent and extremely efficient. I really liked their one page menu - made decisions relatively easy for people like us who can we indecisive when it comes to food. We had the fried gnudi, which was creamy and delicious. The marinara that it comes with was really good. I love that it's fried, but doesn't feel super greasy. The two of us also shared the winter roots pizza, which was a unique option. So it is sometimes hard to keep up with the pace of change in the bay area foodie scene so its very easy to gravitate towards "hubs" where there seems to be a lot of action and traffic as it seems to be the easiest way to find "Better options" for dining. Given my case of going to "the usual" spots, I was surprised when I jumped into yelp one day to find creekwood sitting not too far away. Parking can be a bit tough as it is all street parking but barring that aside everything else was a great experience. The restaurant is small/sleek and cozy. There are a few bar spots to sit and grab some food and then tables for larger groups to sit. I have now visited a few times as reservations seem to be easy to come by and the food is good quality. During my visits, I have ordered the meatballs, Cameroni, ribeye, and the speck pizza. All of the ingredients taste solid with each dish hitting the core making it taste very "home-y". The pastas are good and while not always al dente, I enjoyed the way they put the sauces, etc together. The ribeye was cooked well for medium rare and they slice it up for you but again good flavor and well executed for what you expect. The speck pizza is delicious and I love tossing an egg on top. The pizza definitely stands out here and while the crust was slightly burnt it was just packed in flavor and probably the best value as well. This place is honestly solid and deserves more people hitting it up. They do a great job of just executing good quality food and it is kinda the text book definition of what you expect with good ingredients. It will definitely continue to be one of the spots I continue to go to and is a welcome addition to the neighborhood read more

The 5 stars are true! We laughed. We cried. And then we ordered about half the menu. My favorites, and the ones I will order again and again: Gnudi Fritti (fried ricotta): the cheese is quite light and airy which is in perfect harmony with the slightly heavier fried exterior. I could eat about 10 dishes of these as my dinner. By myself. Agnolotti: a sort of pillowy pasta filled with something delicious (ricotta, perhaps?) tossed in a creamy, balanced sauce. Quite frankly this pasta was better than anything we've ever eaten in Italy. Yes, I mean the whole country. Carrot cake: Carrot cake for those who don't like carrot cake. Get those images of Safeway carrot cake out of your head! This is a highly refined version. You might want to order two of them. Then order two more because I just stole your first two. The downside of eating family style with a big group is that you have to share. Dammit! As of this moment, I've found my new favorite restaurant. I didn't know what I was missing all my life. The chicken is delicious and so original - really spectacular. For dessert we loved the gingery carrot cake, and the salted caramel gelato was dreamy. We love this place! Great food and service! The atmosphere of Creekwood was nice for a date night but casual enough for families or groups. We took our kids and they loved the rigatoni and Margherita pizza. We originally came here for the pasta, then we smelled the delicious pizza and we had to order it. After we place our order our eyes observed of the other delicious dishes they had especially the steak & brussel sprouts, which we have decided we will be ordering next time we come. The pizza was incredible, the pasta was incredible, and make sure to stack on the free bread, I love it. We also had a cauliflower-afredo-truffle salt dish which was a tad bit more cheesy and salty than I expected, but this may appeal to others tastes. We selected this place for a last minute date night. We always try and head into the Berkeley area on a Friday night but with mixed success. I saw how highly rated this place is on yelp and though it would be worth a shot. Not only is it highly rated on yelp but it scores a perfect 100 for the health inspection which I'm always a fan of being in the restaurant business. There was a bit of a wait to be seated which was to be expected having no reservation. They sat us in about 35-40 minutes the place was full and there were two parties ahead of us. Once we got seated it was bar seating, I would recommend making a reservation next time because it Would appear that walk ins sit at the bar-- yes it's that busy. The only awkward thing about sitting at the bar is when your server serves you it's from behind which is a bit odd but the whole service was very friendly and attentive. For dinner service it was awesome to sit and see such a quick and CLEAN kitchen in action. The only turn off was it would seem that drinking on the line from deli containers that didn't have lids or straws and the lack of red sanitizer buckets were the only thing I saw. Our food came out pretty quickly, we had the squid appetizer which was tasty, it had a good body of greens and potatoes mixed in with the squid and it was not greasy or oily. Well crafted. The next thing we had were the meatballs nothing too out of the ordinary for these they were good but nothing to write home about, the bread that came with them was a treat. Finally the speck pizza is the last part of our meal the pizza was a refreshing thin crust that had an excellent mixture of olives,prosciutto artichoke and cheese of course. It was made with a red marinara. The food I would say scored a 4.5 and the kitchen cleanliness a 4.8 service was a 4.9 overall I would say a 5 star yelp review is well earned here. There's street parking in the front and around in the neighborhood. We had an 8:15 reservation for a party of 4 and were quickly seated when we arrived. We ordered the fried gnudi (kind of like a fried ricotta but the shape reminds me of mochi. They were tasty!), meatballs (the garlic bread had SO much garlic it was great but def felt garlicy after), mushroom pizza (this is a red pizza which threw us off since we were expecting a white pizza. It was good, just unexpected), agnolotti (ravioli! The sausage is salty as it should be which was a nice touch), rigatoni (ok but not noteworthy. A little al dente too), and Brussels sprouts (tasty!). The food overall was great and we had it come out as it was ready so it was nice and warm. For four people we had leftovers, so we probably could have pumped the breaks a little on ordering. For a nice intimate Italian dinner id definitely try creekwood out! read more

I highly recommend Creekwood. My husband and I went in for dinner the other night and had an excellent experience. The staff is welcoming, the service great, and the food is delicious! We had the Fried Gnudi, Agnolotti pasta, and Speck pizza. Everything tasted great and the pizza really stood out. The crust was perfectly crisp, and the flavors were amazing. We finished our night off with the Panna Cotta, which was delicious! They sweetness of the panna cotta was balanced with tart pomegranate seeds, making it a perfect dessert. They also have a variety of wine and beer on tap, along with some great canned beer and cider options. We will definitely be back soon! read more

My friend & I love to try new spots and we decided to go to Creekwood on a Thursday night. Made reservations the same day & they def came in handy since this place was pretty busy by the time we left. Parking was an issue for me and after 10 mins I found a park but had to cross a very busy street with no signal lights to help stop traffic. When I walked in I was hit with a strong smell & when I mentioned to my friend she said oh Brussels sprouts which made sense but not the best impression when you walk in a restaurant. I ordered beet salad which was good & a good portion, def shareable. Surprisely this was my fav since I did not enjoy the Cod dish I ordered. Wish the cod was a bit more cooked (looked poached) and curry wasn't quite curry enough. I was so disappointed b/c I wanted to love. Wish I would of tried a pizza. Good wine and drink menu, I did order a glass of wine. My daughter and friend both got crab ravioli which they said tasted fresh but could have been more seasoned. Love the decor inside, it's warm but also modern and the staff were very attentive. Wouldn't go out of my way to go back ($100 for my daughter & my food/drink) but if I was in the area and saw a close parking space I'd def want to try the pizza. read more

I'm so glad to add to the glowing reviews of Creekwood; it's a bright, friendly, cheerful cafe, with an inventive menu and the right personality for an up and coming neighborhood. Sacramento is a quiet wide street, and then you see the bright and inviting light coming from the Creekwood an you know that you are going to have a nice time! The interior is modern and stylish without being pretentious; it's a neighborhood place that is so much more than a diner! The centerpiece for me is the counter at the open kitchen, where three chefs are working at a breakneck pace to make flavorful appetizers, pizzas and pastas, and a few main courses. We had the grilled squid appetizer, the speck pizza, and a large bowl of spaghetti. We got to see each being made right there across from our seats at the counter! My favorite was the pizza, thin, hot, and bubbling; the hit was the two eggs barely cooked which oozed golden yoke with each bite. The squid was barely, but perfectly tender, slightly smoky, with nice garnish; I was misled by the fingerling potatoes, which I thought were extra tubes! the aioli was great with the bread. The pasta needed a little salt, and I couldn't really taste the speck, but I enjoyed the veggies which gave it extra bite. The thick spaghetti was firm and perfectly cooked. We also sampled a big meatball with a bright red marinara sauce... wow! I need to have that next time! The service was friendly and thoughtful, but it seemed that there could be a little better coordination between the kitchen and the servers: every seat was taken and the chefs were buzzing around the the kitchen, but we could tell there were a few lulls here and there when servers were waiting for food to come out. With a little more time, the coordination will improve, and Creekwood will only get better with time: all the elements of success are there!!!
