I went to Creekwood last night, and to my surprise it wasn't contactless ordering. I had my first server since before the pandemic. Ben was phenomenal, accommodating and sweet. The interior layout is beautiful and their patio seating is also very comfortable. It gives off very casual yet fine dining vibes which is perfect for Berkeley. You can tell the owners definitely care about this business a lot. I ordered the Rose Brut Spumante, a sparkling rose! It was definitely my favorite i'd ever had! I ordered the house made gnocchi with pork ragu. As you can see in the pictures it was artfully presented and the combination of the creamy yet tart tomatoes were complimented elegantly by the snap peas. The gnocchi themselves were exquisite pillows that you can see were sautéed in some sort of delicious butter or oil before being dressed in sauce. I am a huge fan of this dish. I was lucky enough to also try the fried brussels sprouts. They are topped with pistachio peppercorn praline. So basically a decadent nut candy on top of fried brussels goodness. I saw other dishes being brought to tables, and each of those were also masterpieces. I was so full I definitely couldn't get dessert... that time... but I saw the home made gelato ice cream sandwich come out and it was INSANE looking. I was basically drooling. My Sister and I had traveled from Las Vegas for a Family Holiday Dinner, we arrived on Saturday evening December 21,2024 tired and ravenous after a wonderful road trip. My son lived in the neighborhood and recommended Creekwood Restaurant on Sacramento Street in Berkeley; however upon entering were met with an unwelcoming attitude from reception(she was engaged with a co-worker and not fully engaged with us) we were seated, our initial server was pleasant and we ordered, however "Miss Negative " served our meal. I was pleased with my meal however my Sister ordered Wagu steak and charged for premium beef and served sub-par beef. My husband and I recently went there to celebrate our anniversary. It was actually our first date of the pandemic. We are VERY cautious. I reserved an outside table, on the end, early (4:30) to avoid others. There was a nice breeze which helped us feel comfortable to remove our masks. (I wish staff still wore masks ... but what can you do? This is what happens when the CDC recommends vs requires protections. Sigh.) Food and service were great. We had a big selection of appetizers. Meatballs, brussel sprouts, crab ravioli, beet salad. All very tasty. Main dishes were the Cod and the Ribeye. The cod is melt in your mouth and the Ribeye was nicely medium rare. I probably could have skipped the buerre sauce to let me meat shine. Overall, a great time. We lingered and neighborhood watched for a couple of hours ... and left when a couple sat next to us. A good re-entry into eating out. (We've ordered take away meals over the past 3 years, and they have been GREAT and they had a very easy system to bring them to your car.) I've never been this excited to write a review. I follow Creekwood on Instagram and a couple days ago when the picture of their Almond Tort Cake appeared in my feed, I knew I had to try it. I love cake. It makes me happy. The review is mainly about, guess what, the cake. Also, the service from the ease of ordering and pick up was really good. Just so that I didn't just have cake for dinner, I also ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. It came with homemade chips, which really were delicious, and if they had been hot, would have been fantastic. On the menu, the chicken sandwich is listed as having strawberries on it. I read the description twice, each time convincing myself that it must have been a typo. But nope, true to the menu, it was as described: with strawberries on it. The flavor was muted and if I didn't know it, would have missed realizing it was there. The chicken seemed well brined and fried to perfection. But it just lacked seasoning altogether. It was just so so. That's the main reason I docked a star from this review. The star, the shining star was the Almond Tort cake, it was divine! It came with whipped cream and strawberries (there goes those strawberries creeping back). But the strawberries were good with the cake. Actually the cake was moist, delicate and had a wonderful subtle almond after taste. It was so well made, that it only needed the dusting of powered sugar on it to keep it company. Sheer perfection. The Almond Tort Cake was worth every single calorie. Food heaven. If the owner is reading this review, keep this on the menu as a staple! I ordered a pizza for pick up and received both an email and text message confirming my order. When I arrived at the order pick up time, I was told that the boss should have contacted me to inform me they didn't have pizzas today. I verbally cancelled my order but was not given any official notice through the system to confirm the cancellation. Again, the boss would take care of that-supposedly. I asked for the bosses contact number and was denied. The charge is pending on my credit card statement. Overall, I am dissatisfied with the service and will be even more upset if I have to follow up with my bank if this boss does not provide me with a refund. read more

Y'all know that I primarily review for service and this place crushed it! Our server had amazing energy and was incredibly funny and hospitable. Even in the winter, we sat outside with the heaters and it really was not bad at all. The staff was also really hospitable with one person from our party bringing their dog and checking in on anything to provide for them. The food was top notch and really well portioned. Amaaaaazing! Such a special neighborhood gem. We got and love the PEI mussels. Perfect amount of kick and couldn't get enough of that white wine butter sauce. The Margherita pizza and roasted beet salad also are must-gets. The salad has this yummy pistachio praline topping. I could eat that alone as a snack. So glad to find a new Italian spot in the area! Creekwood is a fairly new restaurant so if you're hoping to come check it out I recommend setting up a reservation. We came at 6:30PM on a Friday night and the inside/bar seating was packed so we chose to sit outside under the heaters to avoid a 20-30 min wait time for a group of 3. The interior is sleek and modern with wood contrast in the design. If you come and sit at the bar seats you'll be in front of the kitchen area and can watch the chefs prepare the dishes. For this first visit we ended up ordering what many Yelpers and visitors have recommended - Winter Roots Pizza, Fried Gnudi, and Agnolotti pasta. + Fried Gnudi - This comes 3 to an order so it was perfect for our group. I was interested to get this as it's a twist to what I would normally see on menus. Instead of mozzarella these balls of fried goodness actually consist of ricotta cheese. The fried gnudi was pretty delicate so best to eat these with a knife/fork. The ricotta paired well with the marinara sauce and the addition of lemon and parsley made it a great light bite to start the meal with. + Winter Roots - My oh my this was something new for sure! Who knew that creme friache and calabrian chili would make a yummy combo? This one is a little spicy so be careful with each bite. The only con I had with the pizza is that the crust was a little burnt. + Agnolotti - The winner of our meal! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the agnolotti was pretty light with the ricotta, artichokes, and cotechino (Italian pork sausage). Super savory but not too heavy. I was a little skeptical about sitting outside when it was cold , but the heaters did the trick and we didn't feel too cold outdoors. read more

Visiting the area and friends wanted Italian so we found this spot. Really quaint place with heated outside seating. My opinion is it is a solid 4-star place. My party all ordered the pizza because to be honest the menu is really limited. But the pizzas were really good. They also had a crispy Brussels sprout app which was good! Excellent pasta dishes. We tried the pesto gnocchi and the one with pork ragu, both were excellent. The golden beet salad was very nice, on a bed of dressed arugula. It was a very large starter (lots of beets and salad) it might be too filling for 2 people to share as a starter. The pizza was a miss for us... I guess I was expecting a Neapolitan style crust and this crust was very different. It was actually buttery and not as tender as many thin crust pizzas and the crust was kind of firm and crunchy. I'll post a pic so you can see what style of crust it is. That's the only thing I wouldn't order again. Super casual inside, popular place ansfills up pretty quickly after 545pm. Street parking is hit or miss. Tip: if you're ordering several plates to share- be sure to tell them how you want them. ordered 2 appetizers, a pizza to share (figured that would be its own course) and 3 pastas (3 ppl) and everything literally all came out at the same time! The rain couldn't keep us away from Creekwood tonight. It's been bookmarked for a while and what better night than a time when it's not that busy- yay. Restaurant vine is intimate/classy and casual/comfy simultaneously. Owner greeted us and we immediately felt welcome. Menu had some tasty options and we started off with the gnudi, which were yummy crispy ricotta balls sitting on a mini bed of marinara. I wished I had a little more of the marinara. House bread and sea salt butter were delicious. Our server was super attentive and even told us that the owners worked hard for 5 years to open the restaurant; they wanted to work out the kinks before opening and it is evident that the quality shines. My bf ordered the fresh pasta Agnolotti and I got the margarita pizza. Both dishes were high quality, made with fresh ingredients and delicious!! Next time I want to try the gnocchi and ribeye. We threw in a flourless chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream for dessert, which definitely put us in a heavenly carb coma. Can't wait to bring my fam and friends! read more

I had them add a poached egg because I didn't see any protein options to add. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. If you want a healthy portion of food the pancake option looked yummy and filling. Service was consistent and our waitress was attentive. You're never up a creek when feasting on the fantastic menu items which are made from scratch at Creekwood, which is located in what is primarily a residential neighborhood in South Berkeley, not too far away from the main thoroughfare of Ashby Avenue. Owned by two gentleman who have been friends since childhood, Greg Poulios and Mark Louie, they found their dream location in a former bike shop and rebuilding it from the ground up. The reason I even knew of Creekwood's existence was that I was lucky enough to partake in a private event hosted by Yelp almost a year ago and I considered this was one of the best events that I have been to and thought I must come back and support them as a customer because opening and owning a restaurant on your own, in this particular climate is challenging enough, and their food is so authentically Italian and delicious. So it was on a sunny Saturday afternoon that I returned to see how they are dealing with the current situation we are all living in, with limited space and outdoor patio dining. Parking was a little challenging as it was a residential community, but driving once around the block and we found a spot. Once we arrived at Creekwood, the exterior seemed slightly desolate, with one of their four outdoor tables filled with patrons and the other three empty. Eventually their server, Martin, who turned out to be today's chef as well, made his way outside and sanitized the remaining tables so we could be seated in a safe manner. In the digitized world we are living in, they had a Q-reader on the side of their napkin dispenser so customers can review their lunch and dinner menu, as their brunch menu, which was also available at this time in paper form. Since our party was more interested in their signature Italian dishes made fresh to order, we were all about looking on our smart phones. We were originally going to split two of their dishes from their pizza/ calzone section of their menu by ordering their Mushroom Pizza made with Maitake mushrooms, tomato sauce, mozzarella, truffle oil, pecorino and chives and their Meatball Calzone made with marinara, house-made meatballs, mozzarella, pecorino and chives. And I wanted to sample their signature pasta dishes and the only one on their menu at this time was their Hand-made Pasta with basil and pinenut pesto, heirloom tomatoes and percorino. By this time, co-owner Greg was outside serving as our server and he informed us that Chef Martin wasn't quite ready with his freshly prepared pasta, that is until a later hour, so we decided to split a second pizza, their Potato & Pancetta Pizza made with potato, pancetta, cheddar, red onion and rosemary. Our meal didn't take any time at all to come out, as Greg was right in letting us know that their pizzas and calzones were so fresh from the oven that they came out in less that ten minutes. I personally loved the plethora of ingredients that topped our Mushroom Pizza that were flavorful with every bite, and only enhanced when we added in the side of calibrian chili oil that they provided for both of our pizzas. The calzone was a real surprise as the meatballs which weren't too large were perfectly combined with the marinara and mozzarella, and it was a nicely wrapped in the freshly baked dough. I considered the Potato & Pancetta Pizza a minor miss, as I felt it wasn't up to par with the Mushroom Pizza we had enjoyed, but nonetheless still decent tasting. Granted, it only made me pine for that fresh hand-made pasta dish even more so. I supposed I'll just have to return for another visit to see how their menu expands in the months to come as I know the potential for additional hand-made pasta dishes are in site. Creekwood best exemplifies what two entrepreneur friends can achieve when they have a goal and seize it. It's hard out there to make it in this industry, especially in times like these, it's just nice to know there are places out there that we can still support, and support I will with future visits to Creekwood. read more

We hosted a work event here and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. All the staff was so kind and generous! The food was delicious! We had: Beet Salad- I'm not a fan of beets but my colleagues really enjoyed it Little Gems Salad- how can you go wrong with pancetta? Brussels Sprouts- quite possibly some of the best I've ever had, so crunchy and delicious Shishitos- can't go wrong Meatballs- tasty 4 pizzas including the margarita, prosciutto, mushroom/truffle, and Italian sausage. All delicious! Gnocchi- so good, the pesto was so smooth Cameroni- delicious Flourless chocolate cake- must order Cookies- came out warm! Panna cotta and almond cake I didn't try but again, colleagues enjoyed! They damn near had to roll us, ok well maybe just me, out of there cause I couldn't help but try a bite of everything. Honestly, these are some of the most professional restaurant people in Berkeley. They always make me feel welcomed and well cared for. A gem in an unusual location for gems! We've been to Creekwood several times and have been very happy. The service is lovely and attentive (without being helicoptery), and the food & wine are excellent. Strongly recommend the pizza, and whatever appetizers are on the menu (have had some delicious burrata). The room is very pretty and modern without being sterile or overly-designed. The owners are charming and funny. It's great to have a restaurant in this area at all (the block isn't exactly teeming with them), let alone such a good one. read more

I returned almost 3 years to the day for a cheese burger, fries and gnocchi. The burger was very good and big, almost a 1/2 pound. The fries were plentiful and very good. I wish they had a pickle and onion with some ketchup but the aioli was tasty. The gnocchi was surprisingly good. People are friendly. It looks like a nice date night place. I am glad I returned. The place really brings up the scale of the neighborhood. I'm glad they are back. Speaking of flexibility by the chef, I bet they can make good burritos. They can't go wrong if they had burritos this area which can use a spot to replace the burrito shop that is now an Indian restaurant. I am Just suggesting it. We drove an hour from Danville to try something different, and holy cow was this a fabulous decision! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the owner (Greg). He was so warm and friendly, and sat us immediately. Our waiter Pablo immediately introduced himself and helped us to decide on our dinner selections. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, was perfect. We started with the little gems salad, which has a delicious dressing and perfectly soft boiled eggs. For dinner we had a pizza, gnocchi and the chicken sandwich. Everything was spectacular! We have gone to Creekwood 4 times now and it has been a great experience on each occasion. The ambiance is very pleasant, and the food and service are excellent. The gnocchi with pesto is particularly tasty. The pesto is very smooth and creamy. The fettuccine was also excellent. Outdoor seating is available and pleasant with heat lamps when it gets cold.
