When I first stumbled upon Cris while wandering the boutiques on Polk Street, I thought I had died and gone to couture heaven. A consignment shop with designer brands and affordable prices? Not possible. Unfortunately, a closer look revealed that that the clothes are slightly out of date, and labels are valued over fashion or style. Still, I managed to pick myself up a little somethin' somethin'. And the blue jeans rack in the back is not to be missed. That is, if you're into Joe's, Citizens for Humanity and True Religion, all for under $100. With jeans selling for over $200 a pop these days in department stores, these thrift finds will be the skeletons in my closet. read more

4.5 stars! This consignment store (too fancy to call it a thrift store!) is not cheap but I can often find amazing brands here and some clothes still with their tags on. The store is very clean and the rosemary smells throughout the store also make it feel very classy. That and you can likely find pairs of Louboutins, Miu Miu, etc. and jeans by Paige, Citizens, J Brand, and many more. I haven't made too many purchases here but I always love to come in and looks. The jewelry case with all the pretty, fancy jewels is also one of my favorite spots in this store. When you make a purchase, they'll often attach a pretty dried piece of rosemary to the bag. I am very pleased that I chose to consign with Cris. The customer service each time in person or by phone has been very pleasant. I dropped 4 items off less than 4 weeks ago. I am happy to say that 3 of the 4 items have already sold. By calling each week to keep tabs on what has sold is easy. In my opinion if you are interested in checking this place out then do so. But don't dwell on the bad reviews because the irritated customer must of either (1) thought they could get by selling an item more than it's worth considering there are stores like Loehmann's out there, where they could of bought it from! (2) the customer did not take responsibility of keeping tabs on their items sold each week by picking up the phone and asking. Thats your own loss/fault ;) read more

I have no idea what the fuss is about. Cris is laid out a lot like Goodwill--all clothing arranged by color instead of by size. Same with the shoes. Couldn't find anything I loved enough to buy that fit me, probably because every time I found something that appealed to me, I'd have to check the price tag and find out it was not my size. The shoes were sorted by color and laid out under the clothing racks all throughout the store. If you want to buy a pair of shoes, be ready to waltz throughout the store, staring at the floor, and bending over any time you see something you like in order to check the shoe size. How absurd. Clothes are waaaay too packed together. In order to have a nice shopping experience at Cris you'd better have some patience, time on your hands, and a strong right arm to part the clothes on the rack to get a good look at any one thing. On the plus side, the store is bright, dressing rooms are pleasant, and I'm pretty sure they have a great selection. I just didn't have the patience to sort through it all. read more

San Francisco has become like a second home, and discovering this lovely shop seals the deal. Wonderfully organized, refined without being stuffy, and flooded with light so you can see the gorge clothes. This will become a regular haunt, and I am certain I will be calling when away to see what they might have! I love this place! If you're someone that adores designer clothing but not always the prices, this is a fantastic spot to find gently used and even some vintage pieces. It's owned by the most fabulous French woman that just oozes style. This past visit I was going through the vintage Hermes scarfs, and she took me to the mirror to show me how to wear them. Seriously, it's like second nature to her. I mentioned I'm in the market for a Burberry trench, and a sweet woman named Jasper showed me what they had in stock. I didn't fall in love with anything, so she took down my wishlist (everything from the trench to a Chanel broach), and promised to call when she had options she thought I would like. A wonderful, stylish hideaway amidst the hustle and bustle of Polk Street. Cris has flawless taste and the store is always full of only the most beautiful things. Her prices are fair, and the items are always in great condition. I've sold items here as well and her process is very organized. This is my favorite consignment store in SF by far, and one of my favorite stores in general. PS: When you purchase something, it is wrapped with a sprig of fresh flowers. Yawn. If you're looking for famous labels, you'll find it here, but if you're looking for style or quality that's a far more hit-or-miss proposition. All of the clothes I tried on here seemed to be missing something. Were they knockoffs? Are designer clothes really made of such cheap materials? Maybe I was there on an off day? The store was packed, and those little teacup purse dogs were running around everywhere. I'd rather go to a vintage or small label store and spend some money on something that's less status-y, but much better tailored. read more

I'm picky...however I can ALWAYS find a few AMAZING pieces here. In my opinion, a beautiful vintage big label in excellent condition is sooo much better than something 2000. Silhouettes are so much more elegant and timeless...plus unique. A couple xmas's ago I chose a delicious little suede black gucci which is the PERFECT winter handbag, and also am still over the moon for my Tanner Krolle carmel bag. I didn't know the name before I purchased....but was pleasantly surprised to learn the brand's history with a quick little google search. Although the price I paid was a little expensive for an unknown (to me) label, I could tell the quality when looking at it. Sure enough I found the retail prices to be extreme, so I have since given myself a little pat on the back for my find:) I also have lost count of the compliments offered. love it read more

Yawn! Very much geared toward the the woman who checks the 40-50 age box. Not at all what I expected. They do have designer bags and shoes, but just because it has a designer label does not automatically make it fabulous in my book. I completely agree with Erin H's review from 5/15/2013 except I am not lucky enough to shop here more often. :( The shop is super bright, smells fresh and I love that things are sorted by color....with the ultra-expensive clothes by the check out. Customer service is excellent. They are quite diligent keeping things organized. Very friendly and with a true joy for fashion. I do not sell clothes so cannot comment about the negative reviews about selling stuff here but the product that is being sold is fantastic. As for this being a store for older 40-50 clientele, I disagree. It's not career oriented but it is high fashion. I bought my first Vivienne Westwood top for a great price. A terrific high end consignment store for women. They have a small selection of men's items too (shirts, sweaters, shoes, slacks, jeans), but the turnover seems pretty slow. Although the prices here aren't cheap (a Chanel dress can run you $800), there are great deals to be found. I found a pair of pale blue Missoni wool slacks for $110. Lovely! AND, even if you can't afford, you can browse! The store is split between "average" luxury (Tse, Tocca, Rebecca Taylor, Catherine Malandrino,...) and "ultra" luxury (Chloe, Marni, Dior, Prada, Chanel, ...). Cris is a well curator locale of designer finds, racks of main stream labels, and pricey accessories (worth every penny if they have your size and catch your eye). You can walk into Cris with your lazy Sunday outfit on and walk out with an Escada skirt-suit, vintage Manolos, a J.Crew coat or a labeless leather tote made in Italy. I mean that's quite a mix of high and low, and precisely why it's so brilliant. It's wonderful to see such highly coveted designer pieces from Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, YSL and Chanel under the same roof as BCBG, Banana Republic, French Connection and independent labels. Add in a wonderful store owner & friendly staff, and Cris is the perfect stop for some serious fashion finds. Not your quirky decade based vintage shop, nor your designer only vintage shop where everything is beautiful but unattainable (unless you can beg your landlord for an advance on that security deposit). read more

I've died and gone to consigner heaven. I'm never going to Bloomingdale's, Saks, Barney's, or Neiman's ever again. Came there last Saturday and found about 5 Manolo's my size, 1 pair of Jimmy Choo's, a YSL leather jacket, a Prada top, 2 Chanel suits, some Marc Jacobs pieces, 2 J Brand jeans, a couple of 7's, 1pair of Rich and Skinny jeans, 2 Louis Vuitton bags, etc. They were organized by article and color, the shop didn't smell like a vintage store, the window display didn't look consigner so I almost passed by it, and the sales representives were really friendly. The dressing rooms were super spacious. My only suggestion to the owners would be to change their floors to wood instead of carpet. It'll make a huge difference. I saw a Goyard bag but it had someone's initials on it and it wasn't the right style I wanted. However, anyone selling vintage Goyard takes the cake in my book. Everyone knows about Louis, but you're definitely a boss baller if you rock the Goyard. Go CRIS! read more

Great place to go if your interested in designer handbags, shoes, dresses or suits. Not the market for someone young as most of the clothes were geared toward career or older aged women. I have a confession to make. It's not shopping that I love - it's consignment shopping. I have no problem buying secondhand, or lovingly worn, as I like to call it, and the selection is just so much more interesting than that of the generic department store. This is my favorite store in the city, where I come to try on exquisitely made, well-cut dresses that I could only dream about affording in snooty department stores. Retail therapy. I've seen $800-$1000 MJ bags $350 - the going rate for Coach bags these days. Manolos and Jimmy Choos are $150-200, while denim will cost you $60-80. And better snatch up the Chloe quick, or next thing you know, the shopper next to you will be leaving the store one Chloe item happier. To this day, I still lament the day that I let a 3.1 Philip Lim black and white striped dress slip through my fingers. I should've bought it, but coulda shoulda woulda. read more

I know when I'm getting close to Cris, because I smell the fresh lavender wafting out the door...she keeps giant bowls on all the counters, and it always smells great. Without exaggeration, I think that probably close to 75% of my wardrobe comes from Cris. And without a doubt, the things I love and wear MOST come from Cris. The fun of shopping here, is that Cris has already done the work for you. She has amazing taste, and her consignors bring her some treasures. I also love how the store is laid out. If I'm looking for a black blazer, it's quick and easy to see if there is something that works for me, since it's divided by color and then by shirts, pants, dresses...even shoes. The girls who work in the shop are also great. They're always friendly, helpful and will offer an honest opinion, which is refreshing. Cris will also send you out of the store with a shopping bad adorned with fresh flowers. Magnifique! read more

I'll grant Cris an upscale atmosphere award, and even concede that they do have lots of designer labels. But they seem to have sought out the blandest possible options. Consignment shopping is different from sample sale, or seconds/last season shopping -- you have to think about what kind of thing would someone buy, and decide they don't want to keep. Typically I've found consignment to be a great place for big-bang items (ridiculously expensive evening dresses worn once, designer jackets in a style that's easily identified as from a particular season (which is no longer this one), etc.) It's harder to build an everyday wardrobe at a consignment store, because people don't generally sell perfectly good Dolce & Gabbana trousers, Habitual jeans, and Marc Jacobs dresses; they wear them. So I go to consignment stores for special things, and ultimately Cris just failed to wow me. There were plenty of labels I recognized -- Catherine Malandrino, Kenzo, and naturally, Prada, but there just wasn't anything particularly exciting from any of them. Not black/beige/blue, everyday basics, but no standout items either. The Marc Jacobs selection was mostly F05, and priced higher than the sale rack at Macy's. The only star piece I saw was a lovely Stella McCartney camisole with matching cashmere wrap sweater -- a good deal at $258, if it weren't tragically in lime green. The non-designer racks (Banana Republic, Odille, etc) were unremarkable and not particularly good bargins. If I lived in the neighborhood of Cris, I might pop in occascionally, since consignment is often hit or miss. But I likely won't be back much, since it took forty five minutes on two busses to get there from SOMA. (Apparently I took the wrong route, having not ever considered the bloody cable car to be a valid form of transport in the ciy.) read more

I can't believe that I haven't written a review for Cris yet! This is a fashion lover, first apartment, still paying off student loans, San Francisco chic girl's dream. Cris, the owner, is amazing. She is so sweet, will be the first one to tell you if an outfit does not look good, and the first to tell you if you look stunning. The staff is friendly and they know their stuff. Don't expect to come in here with any coffee or food in your hands. Once you see some of the amazing pieces you'll understand why. My most recent purchase - a paid of Coach Boots that retailed at $500 for around $80. Other purchases include: BGBG Dress, with stunning never before worn Burberry pumps. A pair of kitten heel pep-toe Christian Louboutin for around $250. There is always a good selection of sizes in both clothes and shoes. Plus there are fabulous accessories. Love them! I come in here about once a week and look around. Dream. Look around dream some more. Go home. Get paid and then come back to Cris. read more

Walking down Polk street is most certainly one of my favorite ways to spend a San Francisco Sunday afternoon. While on my way to do some Christmas shopping, I stopped into Cris. Just to look. But of course, isn't it always the times when you don't expect to buy anything for yourself that you find a treasure of two? I certainly got lucky. A beautiful, soft, pumpkin colored Ella Moss dress. Just waiting for me to try it on! It was in perfect condition and was only $42! A steal, especially for Miss Moss. Of course, you have to be patient as the racks are crowded and cluttered, especially those with purses and clutches dangling about. But sometimes, if you are lucky, you'll find something you weren't looking for, but have to have. read more

I came to Cris Consignment to obviously.. consign and the process could not have been smoother. The buyer was extremely friendly and she worked extremely efficiently as she went through my items. Cris Consignment also is accepting of many designer clothes that are still fashion forward. It isn't one of those snobby consignment stores even though the buyer does select quality clothing. Furthermore, my buyer even told me when to come back to sell specific items such as cocktail dresses. One more thing I liked about my selling experience was the fact that the buyer recommends other stores for you to go to if Cris is unable to take all of your items. The store is also clean, spacious and well-kept, which makes customers feel quite welcome and comfortable. As I was walking out, the buyer even asked if I needed help carrying bags to my car. It really comes down to the small gestures with Cris Consignment. I highly recommend both shoppers and consignors to visit the boutique. Chis, the owner, is indeed very cool. She is so creative - love how she staples some fresh leaves and straw to the bag. I used to bring stuff over there but it's just too much of a chore now. Chis is very selective and that's good for shoppers. Everything is sorted by color and most are in pretty good condition. The price is marked down by 25% every 30 days I think...so the longer it's on the rack, the better the deal so if you find a piece that you are not sure about...just wait and go back to check later. They also carry some new stuff...go often if you can and you may just find a great deal. read more

It's nicer than most consignment stores in the fact that it's arranged and set up like a really nice little boutique. They even wrap your purchases with a fresh flower. In fact think of it as a really nice high end boutique except in the fact that everything is slightly used. I've gotten really nice designer stuff for a huge discount, and I like it because I know that it's pretty much almost one of a kind. I love taking things here for consignment because the owner is great and you always get a fair price. The rules are a little awkward about what times you can go and get your things and check. I wish it was a little easier because it makes it harder if you don't live in the city to just drop by when its a good time for you. The location is great. I'm still saying Cris has the best selection of designer used clothing and the prices reflect that. I've gotten some fabulous finds here. I have been a shopper and a consigner here for over 5 years and it is my all time favorite consignment shop. Cris is also great in doling out fashion advice. Regarding the consigning, you are not going to get rich doing it. I once sold a Prada runway dress here and I probably got close to $500 (meaning she sold it for around $1,000 as she takes 50%) for it, some Missoni pieces, and several designer bags. But, I can't afford for my whole closet to be designer. Most of my things are mostly middle designer (Diane Von Furstenberg) and some as low as Banana Republic. If you have a Banana Republic top and you sell it for $19, you are only get $9.50 for it. Those little items don't add up much. Also be prepared to call in after two months to reserve your give backs because you will have a lot. Come in shortly after your reservation or else things will be donated. You have to be on top of things. I have not had anything donated yet. read more

I love Cris! It's for sure my fav. consignment store and overall really one of the best stores in the city. I'm lucky to find my shoes size so I can get designer shoes for "nothing"! The high end clothes section is very good too, and there's a very good selection of bags and accessories. I always recommend this place to my friends/family. I live in a different neighborhood and walking there is one of my fav. outdoors exercises ;)) I get a nice "reward" for my workout! Last but not least, Cris, the owner, is a wonderful person! I love Cris. I just bought three pairs of new looking designer jeans and two great little black dresses for somewhere around $250. You just can't do better than that. The people who work there are alway very sweet. They carefully wrap all of your purchases in paper and staple flowers to the outside of your bag, which I think is a really nice touch. I love this place! Always good finds! I just scored an AMAZING BCBG runway dress for $100 bucks--original price tags for $500 stil on it. Excellent Consignment store for women's clothing and accessories .. but guys you won't find much here that is worth it for men. They sometimes get suits that are gently used for a reasonable price but that is about it . I purchased a really nice Armani blazer here in the past but I haven't had luck finding anything else . Men will have more luck at Good Byes on Sacramento where there is a separate building for Men's and Women's (Review coming soon). Now ladies... if you need a top designer gown or evening attire and don't mind that it may have been worn by some fabulous socialite once or twice then you can score big here. Overall the owner is very knowledgeable about fashion. The store seems a bit cramped and scattered but that means more to choose from. read more

Never knew this was a consignment store until recently. The window displays look so clean and sleek I thought for sure it was something else. First off the clothing here is great! It ranges from low-mid end to high fashion. The clothes look to be in great condition and a lot of items still had price tags on them. The prices, well the prices are fairly reasonable for high end used clothing, there were a pair of suede Louboutin peep toe heels for less than $200.... they almost came home with me but my fat feet looked way too awkward in them. But for the lower end brands I personally think that they are priced too high. I'm not going to pay that much for a bebe jacket new or used thank you. I HATE that the store is categorized by color and not size. If I'm looking for a red dress in my size it's much easier to go to my size and spot a red dress rather than go to red dresses and check tags on each one until I see something that will fit. Ditto with shoes. If the department stores arrange them by size then why not this place? The place seems so cluttered. I like that they have a lot of clothes to choose from but it's so stuffed that I can't get one thing out without knocking something else over. They also have a bunch of bags and jewelry to choose form too. I saw an Hermes sellier kelly there and 2 bags that looked like croc birkins but they looked kinda "off". Then again I'm no expert so don't take my word for it. So all in all this place has got some great designer goods (at very fair prices). Parking can be tough but if you time it right you can find a sweet spot. There are deals to be had here and the clothing is in great condition (unlike Jeremys in South Park). I would definitely stop by if I were in the area but not likely make a special trip here. read more

This is one of my last remaining favorite shops in all of San Francisco. This is a wonderful place with beautiful, BEAUTIFUL clothing, shoes, and accessories all hand selected by the owner. I have been shopping here for at least twenty years. One day I even bought a cool Moschino dress that was expensive (but not overpriced). I found that it was just too conservative and Cris was able to take it back and sold it for me. I have also purchased many beautiful clothes here that I have been wearing for many years. I just love this shop and hope that they don't close down. We have lost so many amazing shops in SF like Yone in North Beach, Gumps, too many to mention. Thank you Cris. read more

I walk by Cris every morning and the window displays are the highlight of my day. I finally went in this weekend and was happily surprised. Like all consignment stores, it's a hit/miss but there are tons of clothes and shoes (and BAGS!) and the store is pleasant and clean with a few dressing rooms.
