This hidden gem is tucked away in a large shopping center, but don't sleep on it. It's a cute ice cream shop with flavors that are not as commonly found (black sesame, lavender, Thai tea) They also have savory options. I haven't tried them yet but I will be back to. If you want a nice snack, a bolo bao with butter is a nice treat. Every time I've been the person behind the counter has been friendly, offering samples of the different flavors. Tonight we had a sample of the chocolate cookie too.

Got the bo lo bao ice cream sandwich with Nutella cookies & cream, and it was honestly really solid. The bo lo bao was warm and fluffy, which worked surprisingly well with the cold ice cream - such a cool and interesting combo. Nutella cookies & cream was my favorite, and the strawberry shortcake was also really good. I'd give the overall experience like an 8/10. Plus, the price was cheaper than most ice cream spots, which was a nice bonus. Definitely worth checking out if you want to try something a little different!

Very delicious and quick service!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The establishment is very clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], there are restrooms inside for customers and there is plenty of parking, I will be returning to get a sweet treat :)

Such a hidden gem! Everytime I come here, I love sampling their seasonal flavors. This time I'm a huge fan of their black sesame flavor. And I almost always get it in their warm Bolo Bun! The mix of toasted bolo bao with the cool ice cream is the perfect combo. They have plenty of parking and the service is always top notch. For anyone with late night ice cream cravings or those looking to try something new, don't skip out on this spot in El Monte.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a nice, small little shop tucked in the back of this plaza.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great - you can try samples of their ice cream and the worker was so nice and offered samples of their cookies as well. I got the jasmine milk tea and coffee & cookie ice cream in the bolo bun, as recommended by my friend who got ube and jasmine milk tea as well. The bread was flaky and sweet and the ice cream was generously packed. The whole thing was a pretty big portion in my opinion.

    Bun with vanilla ice cream.

Get the bao with ice cream. Warm bun with ice cream in the middle. Was so yum. They also have delicious ice cream flavors like jasmine lavender, black sesame, etc. I opted for simple vanilla tho. Fast and friendly.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Omg what a cute ice cream shop!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Every flavor we tried was amazing. I highly recommend the Ube and Jasmine Milk Tea flavor. Service was great too.

I scream, you scream, we all scream Bolo bao + ice cream! Came here for an after dinner dessert and Alec, the owner, was closing up. He kindly let us still order! He was patient with our small group and took our bolo bao ice cream orders. Bolo bao is a pineapple sweet bread. Service was great even for one man as Alec was quick in busting out these amazing creations. The bolo bao was fluffy, toasted, and sweet. The contrast to the creamy taro ice cream is so good! I wanted to try all his flavors because he has the Asian flavored ice cream that isn't typically found in LA. In addition, it's sandwiched between a bolo bao! The decor of the inside is quaint and cute, but not large enough to hang out in large groups. So best to take your order and walk around the plaza if your group is more than six people. The spot is located towards the back of Midway Plaza. On the west side of Action Lanes. It can be hard to miss. Bon appetit yelpers and I hope you give this local creation a try!

Ask the Community - Crispy & Fluffed Ice Cream

Are you supposed to ask for the ice cream bolo buns to be cut in half?

Hello! Yes you can ask for it to be cut in half if you are sharing. We would be happy to cut it if it makes your experience more fun, but it does melt faster and it’s a lot messier to eat is why we serve it as a whole now. Have a wonderful day! :)

Does this place offer milk alternatives for the tea? (Almond, coconut, soy, etc)

Hello! We do not have milk alternative at the moment but our milk teas are dairy free. We use dairy free creamer. :)…

What are the flavors this month for ice cream?

Hey Evelyn! Unfortunately we do not have a rotation of flavors but currently we do have Cookie Monster, Nutella cookies and cream, vanilla bean, strawberry shortcake, green tea, UBE, horchata, coffee and cookies, jasmine milk tea, Thai tea, black…

    What flavors are available?

Hey Sophia! The ice cream flavors we have at the moment are Vanilla bean, Cookie Monster, horchata, black sesame, UBE, green tea, Nutella cookies n cream, coffee and cookies, and strawberry shortcake.

Out of curiosity, are you hiring by any chance?

Sorry, but we are not hiring at the moment. Thank you.

Why is this place temporarily closed till June 30? You guys just opened! Disappointed.

Hello Living L, I apologize for the late response and I deeply apologize for being closed. We ran through a rough patch with the Los Angeles county. Our plans were approved but for some odd reason they needed a resubmission which forced us to close.…

You definitely can taste the rich tea fragrance notes in each of their drinks. So far, I've tried their One Tea Signature blend milk tea and their Orchis oolong tea with coconut cloud. I also especially love their popping barley topping. It's a unique spin to the traditional boba. It's refreshing a fun to eat. We also got their walnut custard cake, which was a nice treat. They are slightly crispy on the outside, yet pleasantly moist on the inside. The custard inside added just the right about of sweetness. To finish each mini cake off, each contain bits of actual walnuts on the inside, which really made this dessert well worth it. The only reason I am knocking off a star is because of their staff. They were not very friendly or communicative. The majority of the time, they really tried to avoid making eye contact with the customers. This makes the experience feel awkward and unwelcoming.

Came here with three other friends on a saturday afternoon. Josh created the most immaculate vibes in his lovely home and put together such a thoughtful, delicious food/coffee pairing with his partner, Mei. He was also incredibly knowledgeable about coffee and we learned so much from him from brewing methods to his favorite cafes in LA. The service was next level! Additionally, every course was memorable and some highlights include the cold brew, the biscuits (perfectly buttery), the plum juice inspired palette cleanser, and the espresso take on boba milk tea. I would totally come back to try their new season. There isn't any comparable experience in the world.

Josh and Mei create the coziest intimate space in their San Gabriel home. Like stepping into your best friend's place who happens to work in fine dining and be a coffee expert. There are different Seasons to Ahma and for this particular one, Taiwan is the Muse and coffee is its medium. My limited discernment between good coffee and bad coffee is acidity--sour and bitter, bleh. Or watered down. I don't douse my coffee with milk (anymore) because of lactose intolerance. But here, Coffee can be strong and bold, or brewed to possess properties that taste more like tea. And decaf (!) could have notes of whiskey without any of its alcohol. Particular care has been given to serve your cold brew in a frozen glass, or hot pour over in a warm pink cup. Josh has all the latest gadgets if you are into the coffee scene. But even if you're not, observing him brew you an espresso is an act of joy, not the beleaguered coffee pot in the workplace break room, but sharing in something worth its time and precision and experience. But because this is coffee, there is also something interesting to pair with it. A blooming osmanthus jelly, translucent and floral and fragrant. A delightfully nutty and buttery biscuit, its recipe took five years to perfect, with pineapple wintermelon jelly and delicate egg yolk shavings. A fried popcorn chicken cutlet with Thai basil pesto sandwich with just the right amount of crunch. The total amount of caffeine came in just about 2 cups of coffee, and I left pretty satisfied, but this being San Gabriel, grabbed some dim sum to go afterwards. The experience was 2.5 hours, and there were a total of 4 guests served at a time. The menu changes periodically and they will return in October if you want to try the next Season.
