My mother and I recently visited Crompton Ale House! It was absolutely perfect!! We had 2 drinks each and some apps! They have a special where you chose any 3 appetizers for $40. It was budget friendly and sooo good!! The steak quesadillas, sliders, and chips with guacamole were incredible! The staff was attentive and friendly. This place has everything you need and nothing you dont. The staff are top-tier which starts every experience here on the right food. All the servers are very attentive and will take care of you while you enjoy this place. They have loads of tvs that keep the night going and the sports flowing. They play decent music most of the time not too loud. All in all a great spot to start, end or spend a night hanging. Last note: food that I have tried is just ok. Would eat before I came here. Never again! 1. Huge cockroach crawling on a wall 2. bartender mixed up our order. We got a sample platter for 33$, instead of steak bites he brought us mazarella sticks. This mistake was corrected. 3. wine glass was in a tiny caraft equvalent to 3 sips. I asked how many ounces is this, 8oz bartender replied. I ask for a jugger and mesured in front of him. It's quiet enough to have a conversation, has high ceilings, has books lining the walls to give it a quasi-library-feeling, but still loud enough to get excited at whatever song they're playing. Also, their system to order from the app and have a tab that way is really useful for a large party. Reserved a table for 20 people on a Friday a couple weeks ago and couldn't have asked for a better venue. read more

We were hoping to make this bar a regular spot but a poor experience has ended that idea. The bartender accidentally sprayed ketchup on us and apologized. However, he did not take a single drink off our tab or offer anything else to make up for it. The worst service ever . We were yesterday there with girls for ladies night. Our waitress was completely rude and mean. And when I asked her about second drink for free (it was deal for ladies night ) she told me that she is not sure she can bring it because I didn't tell her about this when I ordered first drink. I don't think I would pick this place to come to on my own volition. But, if you got a large group in tow and need a centrally located place for drinks and food, then this place will get the job done. We had a going away party here for a colleague and we were able to occupy a small section near the front of this restaurant/bar. At one point, our party had about 10 people or so. This place does have happy hour from 6-7pm and selected beers are $5. That's a pretty good deal. What I didn't like about this place was that the hostess did not have any interest in helping me secure more chairs for our party. She suggested we just wait for the lone diner to leave and then take his chair and table (I felt bad for that guy). And besides not helping me, she also made sure to tell me that our party was not ordering from the waitress (many people in our party came straggling in after work and we all were in dire need of a beverage and the waitress was no where to be found). I guess customer service no longer exists...sigh. Bottom line: I am a fan of the new Crompton Ale House. A unique bar atmosphere with plenty of character, however it can be a bit loud and dark as a bar can be. Good list of beers/wine as well as cocktails and old fashioned/whiskey choices. The bar food is thumbs up. I say try these guys out! The Deets: Finding a new sign/façade across from my hotel saying "Crompton Ale House" staring right at me, why would I not check it out? Once inside, I found a great new venue for drinks and bar eats, and I was glad I dropped in here. Walking in, I was politely greeted and seated. I dig the atmosphere...a feeling of mixing the old and rustic with the modern. I love the bookshelves along the side filled with old books and items, along with the design of the bar with the woodwork as well as the layout...sort of like a enlarged study or sitting room. It is a bit dark but hey, it's a bar. Plenty of space and seating, it was not claustrophobic at all. It's a bit upscale for a bar but not one that you would feel you have to dress up for to enjoy. I felt perfectly fine with jeans and polo shirt, as were most of the patrons that night. There are plenty of TVs to enjoy sporting events as well, so it would be a great place to hang out with a group. Great music played overhead, it is a bit loud but hey, again, it's a bar. My server was good, she was attentive but we did have some difficulties due to the music volume (nothing you would not expect at a bar). They have a reasonable list of draft beers and ciders, bottled beers, and wine to choose from that should satisfy anyone's tastes. They also have a signature cocktail menu and of special interest a old fashioned/whiskey menu that is pretty sizeable. For food, I was there late enough that I ordered from the late night bar menu. I had the Hummus Trio ("picante sweet pea & wild garlic, 'everything spice', white bean beet tahini") which was pretty tasty and also the Crompton's Own Burger which was spot on, good burger. We ordered the calamari and fish and chips to split, both were amazing. The fish wasn't too salty and the fries were good. If you like thick cut less crispy fries these are for you. Where to begin...the venue is adorable and centrally located in the city for a good midpoint to meet friends. We went on a Friday night as Happy Hour was about to end with the Ranger game starting and was able to get a table and request to sit by the open window... winning! With 2 minutes to spare we were able to take advantage of the happy hour deals. It is the little things like this that makes your visit to a restaurant worthwhile and wanting to come back. We all enjoyed the Crompton Ale and raved about every sip. Then for dinner we split (3 girls) the mac & cheese, the finger-lickings, and sliders. Cool atmosphere and excellent food! The service was excellent too. The pasta special was a penne arrabiatta with grilled chicken. It was very good and had a good amount of spice to it. The Cadillac burger was delicious! One of the best burgers I've had. The chicken quesadilla was good too. My son had the quesadilla. There was a bone in one of the pieces. The manager came over and apologized profusely and they comp'ed his meal. They had a number of tvs showing the Syracuse basketball game and great music playing. This is one of the main bars my classmates and I always come to celebrate the end of midterms and finals. We are always welcomed by the staff here. The waitresses are nice and quick to take our orders. Mind you we always walk in (party of 6 or larger) and get either seated at the high top tables or directed to the bar right away. We usually come in towards the end of the lunch rush or right before dinner. We always get rounds of shots and the last time we celebrated, we got complimentary shots on the house. For food my classmates ordered the appetizer sampler, which I believe is pick 3 for $33. I didn't eat any of the food items, but my classmates enjoyed them and gobbled it down quickly. I highly recommend if you're in the area because after 5 pm I always see that it gets packed! I'll be back to try their lunch special or for dinner one of these days. read more

I had the steak BLT and it was fantastic! I was staying in the area and was looking for a sports bar and I found this place and really enjoyed it. They brew their own beer as well that was solid but not amazing. I tried a Manhattan up and it was made well. I am not one to write reviews but I was so upset after I ate here the other night. To begin with, the service was lack luster and my food came out cold. However that was not even the worst part. Myself and fellow patrons had to sit there as the bartender completely berated a customer. It was the worst display of customer service I have EVER seen!! It's essential to make note that this customer was a woman of color and the bartender said things like "are you trying to intimate me?!" Just because she asked to speak to the manager (which is completely within her right as a customer!) After this experience I have no interest in ever going back to this restaurant. read more

My husband and I decided to give this place a try as we work on the same street, glad we did. The food was great. We ordered the chicken panini, fish and chips and Crompton beer. All was yum! The bread from the panini was delicious which can really make the difference for any sandwich and the fries were perfectly cooked, I like them small, shoestring type. My reason for 4 stars is the service. The waiter was okay, but never came by after the food was delivered to ask how everything was or if we needed anything. When we asked the manager about the portion of fish and chips, his response was "Oh its a standard size" with a bit of an attitude. Um, that doesn't really answer the question. My best friend and I traveled to NYC for a concert last night in Soho and needed a decently priced, "hip" place to have dinner and drinks beforehand. I had researched on Yelp the night before and noticed all the positive feedback Cromptons received. We had decided this was a good place to try since it was in the same direction just short of halfway. First of all, this is the easiest walk from Penn. It was snowing and slush and only took 10 mins. The ambiance of the place hits you immediately upon entering. It was dark and mysterious, yet modern and lively. Our waiter was sweet, but he was also not the most attentive. He made up for it at the end though (I'll get to that). We arrived during the near end of happy hour. The happy hour drink selection wasn't too exciting. My friend ordered the pickled martini & I ordered a Cosmo ($6 each). The drink that I actually wanted was not available for happy hour, nor was the wine I would've chosen. Our drinks came, but really we had settled for them even though neither of us are vodka lovers. However, OUR fault, not the bartenders, as I could tell they were both well made drinks. The food we ordered (which I am going to warn you was WAY too much food) was amazing. We got the 3 for $30 appetizer sampler- jalapeño poppers, pigs in a blanket, and nachos. This would've been enough had we realized the size was actually 3 full appetizers! Everything was so delicious and tasted extremely gourmet. The dinner entrees were delicious as well even for only being able to have 4 bites and some fries. The waiter noticed towards the end of our meal that we didn't "love" our drinks. He must have felt bad that what we wanted wasn't on the happy hour menu because he brought us each a complimentary glass of the house Pinot noir (he served it super warm, but it's free so who cares). This was an extremely great gesture which earned him some extra tip money! I will certainly be back here with more people to show off this awesome & beautiful place I found. read more

Was here on a Friday night. I decided to come here first and grab some food before heading down to another location for a party. It was crowded when we went there was a group that was celebrating someone's birthday. Our group wasn't as big, maybe 10 people. They do separate checks and you can run a tab as long as you leave a debit card or id. I wanted to pay cash for what i had and they were very cool about it. Service was fast and staff was friendly. She sat multiple parties before getting us our check and these parties were closing in on us (literally--the one party was sitting at our two-person table with us!!!). The only reason my sister and I went here is because we had a couple of vouchers for the place. There is only the bare minimum information on these vouchers and no fine print. Came in with a friend because I was here once before and I had a bad experience. FYI the first time I came here I had an amazing time. First, we ordered two Smokey Margaritas and it was not Smokey at all. Tasted horribly! To think you can't mess up Margaritas, but apparently you can. We asked for 2 new drinks and the manager, Mel or Emil, (wasn't sure of his name) comes over with an attitude and we explained to him how the drink was not great because it was not Smokey at all and it tasted like simply syrup and tequila. He was very defensive and said that it was not made with simply syrup. He gave us attitude the whole time. We simply told him we didn't like the drinks. He clearly didn't get the memo that the customers are always right! It's not like we were rude. Then he proceed to tell us that our next drink is more expensive and I looked at him astounded as if I can't afford the other drink. Like sir you have to be kidding. As for the server he was great and apologized for the manager's behavior. To see that the waiter has more customer service than the manager is just sad to see. read more
