I doubt myself when I try to get into new fitness workouts, especially with CrossFit. I heard so many mixed reviews about taking on this type of workout. There were a lot of negatives while talking to people about this new interest, there was a lot of talk about possible injuries, but also a lot of positives on the health benefits of doing CrossFit. I've always been curious and is always on the search to find something to challenge me physically and mentally. I knew I wanted to get into CrossFit, but never took that step of faith until recently, I have a friend that works out at this box, and she has been pushing me to join her because she understands what my fitness goals are. I've seen her transform through CrossFit, and that has been my motivation to get to that peak of fitness as her. I tried a few free crossfit classes at different boxes, probably 3 times in my life, and of all the times I've done it I would immediately die after, but it was the best type of workout! I tried their intro class at Zeus before signing up. The energy and people here are amazing! I got connected with Christine, one of the trainers/owners at this box. She is amazing at what she does, and it super motivating, and it truly stems out to the people who are active at this box as well. After the intro class, I knew this was going to be the first place I would call my home box! If you have never done CrossFit before you will have to go through a fundamentals course, which is 5 classes that will teach you the fundamentals of crossfit, and how to properly perform certain moves. I was referred to this Crossfit by a friend and I want to say that it was biggest blessing ever! I initially got started with the fundamentals class which shows you a little bit of every move and workout that they do at the gym within four classes. From there, you can choose to continue with a membership of twice a week or unlimited. I started my membership in August and in just four months, I noticed a difference in my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The gym breaks everything down for you(especially for overthinkers for me). They allow you time and practice and continued motivation and support. The gym is welcoming and the members are not just members, they are family. They workout with you, train with you, support you and keep you accountable for your workout. There's no line or waiting on machines. There's a single class going on at a specific time so there is no confusion or distraction. The workouts are fun and motivating and always different. It is also very meaningful because of the stories behind the workout. I have just gone to an unlimited membership and of course, everyone is worried about the price and the time and the place. When you factor in sacrificing plate lunches and fast food, adjusting your lifestyle and really choosing to make the change, it really is worth it. It's my first review on Yelp and why not start it with Crossfit Zeus! If you know anything about Crossfit, you probably picture guys and girls that are stacked and can probably run circles around you. I've seen those Crossfit competitions on TV, those people are nuts! Well Thank You Zeus, for opening up my eyes. Zeus is right behind Best Buy in Aiea. When you come to Crossfit Zeus, the first thing I remember was seeing the baby fence next to the huge tire. It felt very family oriented and the parking can be a little tight but you find one; you might have to walk a little but hey you're going to Crossfit. You can't complain about walking. But the biggest thing that made an impact on me were the coaches. I remember 3 for sure because they're very friendly. You can't forget them! Coach Kamaile taught the intro class and there were 3 of us. She was very patient and it wasn't like a bootcamp workout or anything. We all did the same workout but catered to each person differently. Coach Jay and Choy are the funny coaches at Zeus. The workout was really fun and for someone that hates working out or lifting weights that means a lot. I was so surprised to see all different ages and body types doing Crossfit. The gym itself isn't very big but you have enough space for each workout of the day or (WOD) I learned that in class. There's a bathroom inside so that's nice and you can get crossfit gear and health supplements there too. Prices were pretty reasonable compared to other Crossfit places I've seen. You can do twice a week for $130 or unlimited for $180. They do give military discount! Classes are usually in the morning and afternoon and the class sizes didn't seem big. I like that so it doesn't feel crowded and it's nice to get a little more one on one since I'll be brand new. I know I was new but I felt part of the family here and I'm definitely coming back. A whole bunch of their members went out of their way to introduce themselves. The programming for the gym is done by the head coach, Christine. Weightlifting is less by Jay. Despite having several other gyms in the area, I passed 4 other Crossfit gyms on the way to work out at this one. This place is special. If you are looking to join a affiliate in the area, I would highly recommend this one. The place can be a little hard to find. It is on the front side of the industrial units, not the back. When Coach Sandy wants a review, she gets a review! I have tried it all, from TRX to soul cycle rip offs, to Les Mills to MMA training bootcamps. I love them all, but all in small doses. However, crossfit always scared me (as it probably scared almost all newbies at some point) They seem to all lift really heavy weight and and do a lot of suspended lifts of some sort my body has never successfully done in my life. Although I have only spent real time at crossfit zeus, I can say that the people and coaches here keep me coming back. There is no competition with anyone but yourself. No one gives you the stink eye if you finish last. They pat you on the back and help you put away your equipment. I love that this box focuses so much on mobility. Their classes usually have two blocks of time devoted to stretching, once after the warmup and at the end of class. As someone who has tried a lot of fitness trends, I have also injured myself many times. Those injuries never go away. They will bother you for the rest of your life. Prevention is the best medicine here, and Zeus helps you down that path. Crossfit is relative fitness, relative to where you are at that day. Don't expect to be lifting 100 pounds right away. In fact, they won't let you until the coaches are comfortable with it. Believe me when I say, there is nothing to be afraid of. read more

Leave your ego at home. No, really. My first impression of Crossfit in general was "No way... I can't do that. Why would I want to be in the gym with people who can lift 250 lbs and look like I could grate cheese off their abs and arms?" Well, fear not, friends! My assumptions couldn't have been further off! Ryan and Michelle have been nothing short of a blessing. Right when I seriously started looking for a crossfit gym in the area, theirs sprouted up, and more conveniently a stones throw away from our house. Prior to this, the only gyms were in Ewa Beach or Mililani-imagine the cost for gas! Being new to crossfit, I didn't know what to expect. I was a bit apprehensive on our first day but was quickly put at ease with Ryan and Michelle's genuinely gracious hospitality and caring attitude. The first workout was challenging, but was nothing in comparison to what was in store for us the next four days! I was immediately hooked and found myself wanting to push myself harder, challenging myself to the breaking point. This the the first crossfit gym that I have ever attended. I have never had any training in weight lifting or anything, but Ryan and Michelle are awesome and thorough coaches. The fundamental 4's, or the first 4 classes that you have to attend before you can jump into the daily WODs, can be schedules for whenever you have the time. They will not penalize you for missing any and are willing to work around your schedule. During the fundamental classes they make sure that your form is on point before you move on, and they do a great job explaining things so that you get it right (even if they have to explain it over and over, like they did for me). Crossfit Zeus's location is why I initially decided to attend, because I didn't have the time to go into town, or out to the west side and workout on any regular kind of schedule. Finding it the first time can be a bit tricky, You can see it from the Best Buy parking lot, but can not enter from there. You have get there from Hekaha Street (the road beside Cutter Ford). They don't have an area for children just yet, but we bring our 3 year old son and have never had an issue. Both Ryan and Michelle are great with kids and are very willing to accommodate anyone with children, even rambunctious toddlers like ours. Overall, I have no complaints. Its and brand new gym, brand new gear, AWESOME coaches with great attitudes and a love for fitness. I look forward to continuing with CrossFit Zeus as they grow and highly recommend this gym to both the seasoned and novice Crossfiter. read more

First box my boyfriend and I have ever trained with and it's nothing but an epic and magnificent experience. We've done practically everything...and to name a few: running, yoga, Pilates, P90X, Insanity, UFC BJ Penn Gym, and 24Hr FItness, etc. Nothing has left us drenched in sweat like the warm-ups and WODs we've encountered here! The F4 (Fundamental 4) is tailored for everyone. The movements and terminology used will get you prepared and comfortable enough to join the classes/WODs. What we loved about these classes is the explanation of the basic moves and what muscle you're using during the moves. Past trainers just show the move and let you do it. Not here; which is a HUGE PLUS. Unlike other trainers where you have to work around their schedule, coaches here are flexible and will work around YOU. What's remarkable about Ryan, Michelle, and Sandy is the love, energy, and enthusiasm they have for what they do. It's amazing. Safety is ALWAYS priority so they will not advise you to pack on weight to complete your move BUT if they know you can do it, they'll tell you to put another 5-10lbs. =) This is another reason why we're blown away by the coaches; they remember who you are and what you're capable of doing. The location and class hours is perfect for those with busy lives like us. Everyone who trains here are great and helpful. All equipment is new and parking is never a hassle. Stop by and see for yourself! After we graduated college, we made it a mission and a goal to put ourselves first and welcome fitness back into our lives. Caveat Lector: I write this as I'm still recovering from this mornings workout. lol. In my quest to improve my fitness I've had to mix it up some. Running, hiking, biking, swimming, weights. Working out on my own yielded some results along with a strained left MCL. Several friends suggested crossfit, in addition to my Dr. who stated I needed low impact/high intensity in order to heal the knee, while remaining active. Two friends (Stach and Sofie who I hate during workouts) urged me to try Crossfit Zeus (as they were members). I must say, I've been attending regularly (2x a week) for about a month and wow!!! Coach Ryan, Coach Michelle, Coach Sandy and the rest of the crew are highly knowledgeable and motivated and pass that motivation onto everyone else. Class sizes allow for the right blend of interaction and self determination to power through workouts. Now this is what is referred to as a "Box" gym. Essentially meaning you won't find fancy state of the art euro technology or "as seen on TV" gadgetry which does half the work for you. Nope..you are going to work and sweat....and work and sweat some more. Then, when your done sweating, guess what....your going to continue to sweat. Hmm.....Air conditioning (the garage door is open with a nice breeze). Televisions broadcasting reruns of Judge Judy...hell no. If you can watch TV while working out...umm, you ain't working out. People standing around socializing for hours on end (insert Brooklyn accent) Fuhghedaboudit! What you will find are many like minded people who are serious about fitness (without the bravado and pretentiousness of many gyms). CrossFit Zeus NSC in Aiea, HI is a fantastic place! Coach Ryan, Coach Michelle and Coach Sandy are always on top of their game pushing me to work harder and step out of my comfort zone. Recently I've mastered my kipping pull-ups, got my first ever kipping handstand push up and box jumped higher than ever. I've been doing personal sessions with Coach Ryan (who by the way is the #109 Masters CF athlete in the world) for the last few months and it has really been pivotal in my progress and gains! I told a friend of mine about how cool the staff are and that it appears that they are family friend, pet friendly and people friendly! He decided to try the box out and enjoyed it. And yes, he agreed that they are very nice, outgoing, pet & family friendly too. LOVE my Crossfit Zeus ohana! I have been a member of this box for almost a year now and it has been an amazing experience from day one. Coaches Ryan, Michelle and Sandy are as dedicated as they get. They support and guide you towards your goals, be it loosing weight, getting stronger, developing new skills or even becoming a competitive athlete. The programming is carefully tailored to meet the needs of a beginner and the more experienced athletes. And it works! When I first walked into Crossfit Zeus, in a workout I would still use a strength band for assisted pull ups. A year later, 100 unassisted pull ups are no problem (tested during 'Murph' workout which consists of 1mi run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats and 1mi run). What I personally think separates this box from many others on the island is the attention coaches pay to athletes health and safety. Coach Michelle and coach Sandy for example are available on daily basis to assist with nutrition advice and information regarding muscle gain and recovery. Mobility here is treated as vital part of training, aiming mainly injury prevention and improved form throughout gymnastic and weightlifting modules. If you want to try something new but not sure whether you are quite there yet, coach Ryan is there to spot you. Handstand walks, muscle ups, you name it -- coach Ryan will help you overcome any fears, build up confidence and even surprise yourself. Don't miss 'Sandy's fun time's! January 2015: My mindset was no way you would ever catch me at crossfit because I can't do that type of workout at all. March 2015: Two of my co-workers were doing crossfit and convinced another co-worker to go, she also convinced me to try a beginner class at her box. I went and I actually survived the workout and was sore for 5 days but it I enjoyed it. I decided to look for a box that was closer to home for me. I had a choice between two but I leaned more towards this one. It could be because I remember seeing at the beginning of the year Yelp offered a class for their fit club & my dog's name is Zeus. I went to the website and contacted Coach Shel who told me that their intro class is held on Saturday's. That Saturday I went to the class I couldn't survive it because I did not eat before I went to class. I wasn't feeling 100% but Coach Shel offered me Gatorade to help make me feel better. Coach Choy was concerned and asked me if I was OK & told me that I need to eat. That same day I signed up for the fundamental classes that newbies should take. I finished my fundamentals in April 2015 and was there until December 2015. This box is really into safety and making sure you have the correct form so that you don't hurt yourself. All of the fellow cross fitters who I've encountered at this gym whether they are a newbie or veteran no one judges you on what you can or can't do. Every one is your cheerleader and always tells you that YOU CAN DO IT. Just believe in yourself. All of the coaches that I had a chance to work with while I was there: Coach Shel, Dez, Ryan, Jake, John, Choy and Jay are all awesome coaches. I will be dropping in from time to time. Every day brings a new WOD that kicks butts, but you feel great about yourself afterwards. As a working mom, it is tough to find the time to workout but they have 6:30pm class so it fits my schedule. I just want to say thank you to the coaches and athletes at Crossfit Zeus! It has been almost a year now that I have been working out at Zeus. my friend said last December after I have my baby you are going to crossfit with me. In my head thinking what is a crossfit and why. The first day at the box I was nervous but in sec Michelle made me feel that anyone including me could crossfit. After the free class I talked to her about all of my illnesses from hypertension to previous surgeries an with out skipping a beat she said okay you can still do crossfit. I began going 5 days a week and no matter how slow or week I felt the coaches and athletes at Zeus pushed me to want to do better. Even when I ask why, why, why are we doing this it is always meet with a smile and put your gear on. If you are looking for a place to work out that care about you and getting the best out of you but looking out for your safety and well-being this is the place for you. The knowledge experience and support provided by the staff at Zeus exceed The standard compared to what I had paid in the past for personal trainers to do one on one sessions with me. They not only look at how you work out but how you Live. With out them it would be hard to imagine where my quality of life would be with them it seems endless. I've known a little about crossfit for about three years but was always intimidated by those who talked about it and worked out in a "box". That was until I met Michelle and we had a little chat about her box and she told me that I would definitely be welcome at Crossfit Zeus! We spoke in December before vacation and on January 8, 2013 I started my new way of life. I have never wanted to go work out more than I have in the last month. I never realized how strong I could be. While I am not the strongest at the box, I am getting stronger every day. My clothes have become bigger and I am noticing slight changes in my body and my mood. All three coaches (Ryan, Michelle, and Sandy) are very approachable and are constantly pushing and commending me on my improvements. I've only been to 2 crossfit boxes, but I can see that not all gyms are alike. I only went here for a month, but this box is waay better than the Crossfit down the street. The reason why Zeus is better is because you get a complete workout each time and the coaches break down every move without the weights before the workout starts. You get a proper warm up, workout, and cool down. The actual workout format is the same at the other place, but the proper warmup (and I stress proper), workout breakdown, and cool down is what makes the difference. There was no cool down at the other place. Coaches at Zeus are better also. Fun, friendly, and they push you just enough, not irritating to the point you want to tell them to shut the F--- up. Zeus also didn't make me do a "required" number of personal training or starting classes. I did the free intro class and one personal training to learn the different types of crossfit movements then jumped right in to the regular classes. If the class schedule worked out better for me (30 min makes a difference) I'd definitely keep going here. read more

Such a welcoming box!!! This was the first location I looked into when I first moved to the island and after one visit I found the atmosphere was too good to pass up! Friendly faces all over that gave me an awesome feeling about where I was at! In order to workout and give your all you have to be comfortable around who you're with and Zeus does that! Coach Ryan, Chelle, Christine, Jake, Jay, and Robb are all approachable and are willing to help you on your fitness journey! My first review on Yelp, okay here goes! I had to let go a career so I can finally have that shoulder operation (Yes, there are some work places that don't give a damn about your well being). My shoulder have been bothering me a long time, in fact before the operation I had a terrible time keeping fit and realize that one little thing(shoulder) plays many different functions to keep fit. Overall for me in terms of the whole process to get my shoulder better took me 5 months to gain 95% recovery and then I jumped into CrossFit Zeus NSC almost immediately w/ the okay from the Doc. I give CrossFit Dynamic Duo Michelle & Ryan a honest high rank right off the bat! Michelle and Ryan have done a great job to establish themselves in the Pearl City and Aiea area that all walks of life can join regardless your level of fitness. First impression on day one: SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT, POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE, FRIENDLY, GREAT LOOKING CLEAN GYM(Da Box), VERY STRUCTURED & EDUCATIONAL! They are competitively priced and flexible to work with you. The group class itself is very diverse (Women, men, old, young, tall, short, fat, skinny, fit, out of shape, Asian, Black, White, Latino, etc etc etc) from my observation (I currently do 1 on 1 w/ Ryan). When you workout you will get more than what you payed for, PROMISE! Mind you w/ my shoulder that within 5 months of visits, tests, exams, pre-op, operation, therapy, do at home stuff, and a lot of FORCED REST I became a much bigger man (Chunky monkey) before I started CrossFit. Of course I am not the only big person there nor I consider myself young either. They do keep track of your progress and give sound advise, suggestions, & guidance. You can ask them any questions that they are more than willing to lend an ear and you will get a honest professional answer. Of course during the workout you will have them days where you can't see for yourself to accomplish things but they will see it in you that you can. So you can join to become a LIFER or come in for a little while, this is the place to do it. read more
