I was here with a group of 20-some folks for lunch. They set up a nice area for us in a kinda-private area of the dining room. They were also kind enough to process 20-some individual checks! The waiter assigned to us was friendly and patient despite helping such a large group on his own. The menu has a nice variety of options that you don't typically see in mainstream restaurants. I ordered the beet salad - it was basic but had plenty of beets! Wish there would have been a slice of bread on the side, though. The other folks at my table had the shakshuka (that was served in a small cast iron pan), a ginormous Reuben sandwich (it could have fed three people), and a fish sandwich (with a filet that was three times the size of the bun). After lunch I stopped in their bakery and bought a half-loaf of sourdough bread. It was so fresh that I ended up nibbling on the heel slices in the car on the way home. We went for family Sunday brunch and found Crossroads to be a pleasant blend of traditional kosher food and standard brunch favorites. The atmosphere is very cozy and we were seated right away. Sunday brunch is only the buffet there is no sit down menu. They had a really great selection including all the classics like waffles, eggs, pastries, lots of meat (that I didn't try) and an Israeli breakfast stew that was amazing. While there was a lot of vegetarian food there was zero vegan options. Except fruit and you definitely shouldn't pay $17.99 for that. I had asked a while back about corned beef and matzo-ball soup in the Twin Cities. I was told Crossroads had amazing soup but I wanted to test the waters myself! Upon arriving it looks like an understated cafe, kind of a cocos or bakers square kind of one off. Inside you will see their bakery and store which is amazing and be led to a table. The lunch crowd was hopping and we were seating and brought a basket of bread and a bowl of dill pickles. Both are really good. I ordered their hot corn beef on rye and a bowl of the soup that I had been chasing. Upon arrival the matzo ball is enormous and the soup has an excellent broth filled with chunk chicken carrots and celery and the sandwich was piping hot on homemade rye. A fab of mustard and those pickles and I was in heaven. My mentor asked the staff to surprise me with desert and she brought a lemon coconut cake that was mouth watering. We have visited Crossroads a few times now and have had great food and service each time. I'm a sucker for good matzo ball soup, and Crossroads doesn't disappoint. The bowl is ample size and full of veggies, rich broth and a great matzo ball. Ruben was huge and delicious. Fried chicken is very good. And the Wild Rice Chicken Casserole is amazing. Everything you need on a cold day. Deli and bakery are just as good. Black & White Cookies are NYC authentic and the many flavors of rugelach are all delicious. We've been trying to do all the pieces and have taken a number of folks here for a meal and have been happy every time. Service has been good on all visits, one day they were short staffed and even with that we were well taken care of by the staff. If you would like an adult beverage those are available too. The Key Lime Pie is one of the better pies I've tried. While looking at the dessert case a customer told me the Key Lime Pie was the best they had eaten including pies in Florida. They have the best chicken matzo ball soup. There is a bowl for $7.95 with one huge matzo ball. This is really enough for one person! Although there is a larger bowl with two matzo balls for $9.95. If you are hungry go for it. Anyways the broth is phenomenal. Loads of flavor with chicken and carrots. So good. We split a Turkey croissant sandwich which was huge. This was $13.99 but so big it easily served two people. Lots of fresh roasted Turkey, bacon with lettuce and tomatoes. It comes with yoir choice of chips or potato salad. My first visit to Crossroads was on a Sunday afternoon, at about 12:30. Upon entering, you can see the classic deli line to the left, and then the dining area to the right. The dining space looked very large but was mostly unoccupied during my visit. We were seated promptly by a server named Tuki (not sure if that spelling is right), but not before getting our temperatures checked with a forehead thermometer. Tuki and all the staff wore masks, and it seemed they were following all COVID-19 guidelines. The only bad thing I have to say comes next. I had never been here before, but my friend who was with me looked at the "new" menu and was not happy. Apparently, they do not serve deli sandwiches until after 4:30pm, and we were only able to order from the brunch menu. My buddy was bugged, but I was just excited to try whatever the heck Cheese Blintz was! Tuki kept our waters full and was very kind, speaking and even joking with my friend and I several times. She later shared how difficult the outbreak had been on the restaurant, and how much money the owners were losing. This helped me to be more patient with the lack of deli sandwich options, and I just want to give Tuki a shoutout for being so fun and helpful, even behind a mask! Our food came in average time. My blintz were fairly small for a $12 dish, but I didn't say anything after the first bite. Man, were those little cheese pockets delicious! Savory and creamy in the best of ways, I enjoyed them and ate slowly (my usual:). Served with a cup of both strawberry sauce and sour cream, it was a heck of an experience dipping each bite into the sauces and creating my own flavors. I definitely recommend this dish, but perhaps with a side of soup or a dessert, because it isn't a ton of food. Nevertheless, I would get it again! I tried my friend's Dr. Stu's Cabbage Borscht, and that was a trip to flavor town. It tasted like a mix between beef broth and tomato soup, which was not a bad thing because it sure was good! After the main course, I decided to give the French Silk Pie a shot due to high praise from my buddy. The slice was fairly large, and it was nice and chilled. Now, I have never eaten a cloud before, but I am pretty sure this pie encapsulates that experience. It was so sweet and so silky, with a perfectly baked crust. You gotta try this pie. Overall, I am happy with my experience at Crossroads Deli. Though disappointed in their lack of classic deli sandwich options for lunch, I was treated with a cheesy surprise that left room for a legendary slice of silky goodness. Give this place a shot, but maybe go after 4:30 if you want a 'which. read more

In my experience, no matter whether enjoying breakfast,!lunch, dinner, brunch or counter-top (case) service Crossroads has been reliably good. I cannot list everything I've tried here. A sampling includes high quality burgers, generous salads, very good soups, above average dinner entrees, a delicious tuna melt and an overflowing brunch. Baked goods from the cases are attractive. Limited selection of other treats whether savory or sweet beckon. Service has always been prompt and efficient. Conversation not really an issue. Plenty of free adjacent parking. Crossroads might not be an authentic Deli. But what it does I think it does well. read more

Well... I'm here to say it and mean it wholeheartedly. The Ruben that Crossroads has conjured out of who knows what. Is hands down... THE BEST. Sandwich I've ever had and probably ever will have in Minnesota. Crossroads Delicatessen is a cute little place and immediately when you walk in you are greeted with a copious amount of smells that tantalize your tastebuds. The bakery alone could be its own business but you have a deli to pare it. The service is outstanding and quick. They cater to your concern very well. As I was waiting for my Ruben a couple people came through and I'm assuming they were regulars. The staff already knew their orders before they said a word and started talking to them as true friends. Unfortunately, i wasn't able to dine in and see what the area was like. As for the actual deli and bakery it was clean, tighty and fully stocked! The Ruben. If I was smart I would have gotten two. This is the best combination of tastes I've truly had. It is bitter, sweet, sour, meaty, I mean you say a taste and it probably has is in perfect proportions. A solid 9.8/10. Now the fries... usually in my professional experience when the sandwich or burger is too dang good to be true the fries are slacking. No no, not the case at all. These fries were SO crispy and then as the crust is broken they melt in your mouth. I would have no idea what to compare them to other than the most satisfying crunch and taste ever. 9/10. Ya know, it's almost like the place I visited the other night couldn't possibly have been same one that's rated a 4 Stars on Yelp. While the service was friendly, the food as well as the presentation (see photo) was clearly sub-par. OK...we opted to share a couple of appetizers (Onion Rings and a BBQ Pizza) from the large menu. Both arrived promptly and warm along with a smile from our very pleasant server. The rings were obviously pre-battered (not on site) and were greatly helped by the special sauce. Meanwhile, the pizza was greasy with a crust that was more than chewy. All in all, pretty disappointing. I am, if nothing else, a fair person. I plan on trying Crossroads in the not too distant future as I'm hoping my experience was an anomile, especially based on the large number of 4- Star YELP reviews. I visited for the first time this week and tried their Reuben sandwich with coleslaw. The sandwich was delicious...and huge. I took half of it home and it was almost as good reheated for dinner. Service was prompt and really friendly. I'm a big fan of Cecil's deli in St. Paul; here's a little side-by-side comparison. I am addicted to Cecil's Russian Reuben. I always think I'm going to try something else when I'm there but I just can't resist. The same thing happened here. The taste, quantity, and quality of the sandwich and slaw were pretty much even. Crossroads' dining room reminded me of a Perkins, sunny and Midwestern but I actually like the gritty atmosphere of Cecil's more. It reminds me of the Jewish delis in North Minneapolis that my family patronized when I was a little kid. On that note: I stopped at Crossroads' deli counter after lunch and bought a big loaf of caraway rye. It is delicious, although Cecil's edges it out by a hair IMHO. I wanted to get some halvah, too, but Crossroads only sells it on Fridays; you can buy it (and hamantashen) at Cecil's any time they're open. I have been here many times, really because it is the only deli close by. When I think of Crossroads, I think Jewish holidays, matzoh ball soup, beets and corned beef sandwiches. The building and decor are getting run down at this point. The only enhancement over the years has been adding booze, and perhaps more recently, the wait staff giving my wife and daughter flak for splitting the huge strawberry salad and large matzoh ball soup, something they have been doing for about two decades, or since my daughter got teeth. So, aside from my wife and middle daughter ordering the same thing scores of times, I like to mix it up by ordering say Kevin's Combo, Grilled Reuben and the Hot Pastrami. Okay, I am as much a creature of habit as my family. Awesome. If they had a liver pate and egg sandwich, I might stray. They have the best beets on the planet. Great pickles to. You now have to ask for the beets. I never had to share before. Now my in-laws moved here and unfortunately love them as much as I do. Yeah, they are bottomless, but I feel greedy asking for more than two bowls. Also great assortment of bread. Even the pancakes butter is the creamy good kind. I've been coming to crossroads for the last couple years to purchase products from the bakery. While I continue to love the baked goods I must say that my experience with customer service could indeed have been better. I can totally understand waiting in line. I think because I drive out from the city I get excited about conversing with the staff about what's new and good. I stood there today for about 10 minutes on acknowledged with my friend. It just felt cold and unwelcoming. It won't stop me from coming there but I just thought it was worthwhile to mention that perhaps a good policy to go by would be that when somebody walks in to acknowledge them and say hello and let them know that you'll be with them shortly. Also, I've been bringing my 74-year-old friend out there to get her her favorite bread throughout the quarantine and shelter in place time. I was surprised to learn when I asked if they could separate the large loaf of rye bread into two bags that we would be charged for an additional loaf. That just seems ridiculous. Although it would also seem odd I could understand if there was an extra charge for the bag of $.25-$.50 All in all they still continues to be a place I will give business to. I've been craving borscht so searched for a place to satisfy that yearn. The Crossroads Deli is the place! We ordered the pickled beets for the table--very good. The borscht is excellent--a rich, satisfying broth and lots of cabbage. I also ordered a Reuben, which is huge and comes open faced. My companions had the Beef-on-Weck and the Matso Ball Soup. They were pleased with both. We found the waitstaff, as my friend put it, odd. Not rude, not incompetent, just odd. They restaurant is just as charming as can be with glass and brick furnishings. Of course we stopped in the little shop to buy sweet treats and frozen borscht to take home. The place is pretty far from my house, so I probably won't come often, but I would highly recommend that you do! read more
