I'm new to Chicago and noticed this right out my back door, basically, so I figured I'd give it a try. It reminded me a lot of Avalon Exchange in Pittsburgh, my go-to used clothing store. Prices are definitely reasonable, and I appreciate being able to find designer stuff in addition to staples that aren't expensive. It's also nice that I didn't have to sort through a bunch of crappy clothes to find stuff I'd consider wearing, although that's fun when you have the time for it. I picked up a jacket, but I'm actually going to return it tomorrow. Not sure how they are with returns, but I'll report back. All in all, I have no problem adding Crossroads to my new--and growing--list of solid places in my neighborhood. It's a great place to poke around if you feel like you need some new clothes, but you're not sure exactly what. You'll find something here. Good selection of lightly used clothing. This resale shop is on the more expensive side of resale shops but the clothes are good quality for the most part. I did have some frustrations with how the clothes were organized as sales were mixed in with the rest of the clothes and there wasn't much separation between clothing styles. I did buy a nice pair of shorts for $15. read more

This is a great thrift store with designer labels and fashionable clothing. They only buy clothes that are in good condition and clean, so you won't find musty stained articles. They buy accessories such as purses and shoes, except for jewelry. Even with the improved selection, you still have to dig through to find great deals - but isn't that the whole point of thrift stores? read more

Not to much of a selection and what they had was overpriced. At least this applies to the mens clothes, I am not sure about anything else. Basically the same as Clothes Optional but with more new and more expensive stuff. read more

I have never sold anything here but to date I have purchased several shirts for aroung $5-$10 each. Most of which were name brands that would have originally been 4 times the price. I see a lot of brands that are sold at Akira and Urban Outfitters. If you have the time to scour the racks than it is well worth it but it takes a lot of patience. I like the way all the tops are arranged by color. read more

This place is actually really great to find clothes for cosplay. Most thrift stores have a limited selection and I can never quite find something to get excited about. Buying something brand new, only to be worn maybe once or twice, also sucks. Crossroads is that perfect in-between. I was on the hunt for a leather vest this weekend and they came through, y'all. Not only did I have like 5 to pick from, but I ended up with one from Express for $18 and it's absolutely perfect. I've found a few great items at this place, and I find it very convenient that there is an Untitled next door so that you may decide what you want, that you don't necessarily have the money for it, and come next door. Even the men's section is filled with good finds. I also like that this place organizes the clothes by color-- People like myself with acute anal-organizing skills appreciate this. All-in-all the store makes it easy to go directly to what you're looking for and find 8 alternative choices next to it. It's a swift step up from a thrift store, and the displays are always very nicely put together. My one "con" to award to Crossroads is that the selection is very hit-or-miss. Some weeks you're lucky, some weeks you're not-- but that's how used shopping almost always goes. read more

First time in a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. They had a good variety of lightly used clothing some even new. The way it's set up makes it easy to shop. You don't have to go through racks and racks of clothes that can be overwhelming like Ross. It didn't seem a bit pricy for used clothing but not too bad. Overall great place. I'll be back. read more

Just went here for the first time today. Posh thrift store. Nice mens shirts cost between 15 and 25 used. My wife found a couple great dresses for around 12 bucks each. Nothing but good things to say! This will be a staple of mine for used apparrel. read more

Five stars is for this being the first ever consignment store that I have found was super nice and easy to work with!!!!! Selling: they are nice and laid back and up front about what they want. Not like other consignment stores in the city which are either a. snobby and act like you are burden for bringing clothes they will stick thier nose up at. or b. super crowded and your clothes are too "professional" for their shoppers (read: Plato's Closet that says Lacoste is too high end). This is the first consignment (and I haven't been to that many to be fair) where they aren't above buying Jcrew Banana Republic, and got really excited when I brought in a Nanette Lapore top that was only worn once. Just don't bring in anything that looks worn- if you wouldn't buy it they won't sell it. They had an awesome Kate Spade bag I wish I bought when I saw it the first time. Like any thrift shop they have some hidden gems and then many times when I come up empty handed. It is just nice to sell to a place where you don't need an appointment and they don't look down their nose at you for trying to bring in Ann Taylor. read more

I would have to say this is the best thrift store I have come across. They're way better that Plato's closet. I brought some old clothes their and they bought them for a reasonable price, not to mention I also found a couple of great skirts for around $10 read more

This place definitely has some very cool, good quality clothes and as far as I can see is one of the better thrift shops I have been in. However, their sizing range is pretty poor. Most of the clothes there are sizes XS, S, and the occasional M. Larges were extremely hard to find and if you want an XL, you may as well forget it. I also tried to sell some clothes in the L and XL category and they were declined, which I find interesting since I have a friend with similar taste in clothing, who is a small who always has her clothes sell. This place is the typical Plato's Closet/Buffalo Exchange/Boring Overpriced under $old retailer. Shirts are cram packed together to the point you cant look at them and the majority of the clothing is bought for re-sale based on brand name rather than actual style. Some of the employees are OK although the management is usually condescending and moderately rude. Occasionally I'll find something interesting to buy although if its from the new section its overpriced. Their jewelry is awesome though, its pretty much their only redeeming quality. They have hipsters working to lure you in thinking the clothes will be cute but the you realize they buy to sell to the typical middle America customer; BORING. I understand they don't want to buy things that are out of season/poor quality and wont sell again, they are a business and need to make money, but the buying choices and the prices they give you are laughable. I had items (granted from Forever21, not exactly high fashion) some with the tags still attached (I'm an impulse buyer, what can i say) and some without but all bought within the past 6 mos and they didn't take any of them...but they did take my visibly worn pair of name brand shoes...gee, wonder why. I honestly dont think ill be going back, they make you feel like you sold them complete garbage when they tell you "why" they didn't take your clothes...i my pop in every once in awhile because like i mentioned their jewelry is great but ill be taking my clothes to Savvy Seconds in Lincoln Square or another local shop where they actually BUY things. PS- Did i mention i used to buy for a similar company? SO the items i take in generally speaking are in fine quality and of current (or basic) trend. read more

Crossroads Trading Company was a very fun place to shop. The tops are organized by color, and it's amazing to look through it. It takes a bit of time, but it is definitely worth it once you get a great bargain. The staff is nice, but not super friendly. I did not sell anything there, but they seemed to be getting that done quickly. Everything there is great, but it's not organized by size at all, and it can be super overwhelming. There also aren't a ton of skirts or shorts. read more

Employees here are pretty rude, they made fun of pretty much everyone that brought clothes in and what they brought in. i had a number of BCBG dresses and Coach purses but got very little offered, but yet they were charging almost the same amount for forever 21 and akira clothes for what you would buy at both those stores. makes no sense. Hands down, my favorite Crossroads store in Chicago. It's so much better than the other one in Wicker Park - you don't have to deal with the hipsters who think they're better than you, plus they pay more attention to you here than at the other store. I once came back because they forgot to take the security tag off, and the person at the register gave me a coupon for my next purchase! I didn't even ask for it, and it was so nice! They also have a way bigger selection than the other stores since it's a larger space. The employees are super nice too - they ask if you need help or if you need them to get a piece down from the wall. I love their selection, their style, their music too! I worked here for maybe 3 months while in grad school before I found a full time job, but I highly recommend this place for some affordable great finds. It's difficult to find parking but easy to get to by public transit. There's a parking garage across the street by the movie theater that is walking distance though. Lots of other great places nearby, so definitely make it a day of shopping, and be prepared to sift through lots of clothes. But it's the worth the sifting when you've got a few pieces that fit you just right! read more

Hi, I find the staff here to be very friendly and never rude. I used to try to sell CD's when I was younger over ten years ago to the CD stores that used to be on Clark, and they were very rude. they would just look through your stuff, hand it back to you, and say, NO, without looking at you. Yeah, I realize you are insulting my taste in music. Anways! I like how honest the staff is here. If they can't buy something, they explain why. If they want it for another season, they will ask you to save it and bring it back. Today I sold many designer bags and shoes and had a bag put on consignment for the first time (they will let me know when it's sold, so they can pay me more money than if they just paid me outright today). the policy was explained very clearly to me (there were a lot more details that that). they always compliment your style/taste when they see things they really like, which is cute. as for buying things, i haven't bought something here in a long time. but, in about 2006, i bought many pairs of great work pants here because i had lost a lot of weight quickly and was younger and couldn't afford to keep buying new stuff every couple of months if you have never considered consignment for shopping, think of this..there are plenty of reasons people get rid of things other than it's worn out or people need to pay their electric bill. if someone is fairly responsible with money, then why WOULDN"T they increase their personal capital by selling stuff they dont use anymore? I mean even if you had some 100K plus sal...even people lke that have garage sales all of the time. some people lose or gain weight and have to get rid of hardly used nice clothes and shoes. i had some heels i cant wear anymore because my feet are screwed up/had foot surgery. PS the store doesn't smell like a good will, or something like that. i think this shop is great for middle class women, college students, and many other types of women. it's more well organized than a messy tj maxx or marshalls. read more

After reading some of the other reviews I went with trepidation to Crossroads. I have been to Plato's to sell in the past and always felt that I was ripped off; $20 for a designer bag? So I decided to give it a shot. Unlike many of the other reviewers I was met with a friendly staff. I only waited about 20 minutes for the whole selling process including the time it took for them to write me a check. I also felt that the price they gave me for my items ($60) was fair. The woman that looked through my items wasn't judgmental at all and remembered my name, the guy who processed the check was also incredibly friendly, asking me what I was up to this weekend. I highly recommend Crossroads to anyone looking to sell. read more

Do NOT go here to sell anything. This was a complete waste of my time. I brought 30+ items and they took only 2 things. While the associate/buyer was explaining to me that they only buy items on trend and in season (obviously), about everything they have in store is outdated and a lot is totally out of season. Not to mention what all the associates were wearing were completely outdated and out of season also. It makes no sense. Although a lot of items I brought were very out of season, I brought a lot in season that would of sold 100%. Won't be back here again. read more

I have found some good things here, but selling clothes is not as easy as it should be. The girl who took my used clothing was so rude for no reason at all. If you don't like people, you shouldn't be in customer service. A tall girl with long, blond hair. She didn't answer my questions about when I could pick up my cash/unwanted clothing, but just kept repeating "Like I said..." like I was totally dense. I've been shopping at crossroads for several years. Really nice finds at bargain prices. Can find beautiful designer pieces on consignment. The dressing room staff is so very nice and helpful. The girls at the check out can be very nice. As much as I like to write a positive review, I must say I have experienced the attitude issue with the employees when I checked out more than once. But the great finds, and super helpful staff at the fitting room make it easy to forget the occasional uppity attitude at the check out. ( which kind of makes me laugh as this is crossroads recycled clothes :)) read more

Kind of irritated from my last visit, I usually like this store, but I'm not a fan of having to stay for the quoted time before they even look at my things to sell. I looked around for the time I was told (30 min) and I guess I was called when I was in the dressing room. The girl up front did say sorry and I would be next. About ten more min just went by and I'm just watching them shoot the breeze, then the girl walks away and didn't tell anyone I checked in, seriously? I ended up sitting down in front of them and after a couple min I was asked what my name was. In the end, I waited 45 min for them to just say no to everything which would have been fine, but it just pushed me more to write a review. At least platos closet lets me leave to get my errands done. read more

I've been here several times attempting to sell really nice clothes from the past year. The problem is not that they don't accept my clothes, it's what they say after they don't accept it. This is a moment of rejection, and they don't seem to care about how the customer might feel after they say they'll only accept 2 items out of the 20 you brought in. They just give you a quick remark saying your clothes are out of style which kind of ruins your day. Also only expect to get $10 for the brand new pair of new tennis shoes and heels that in total cost $120 new. I feel this place is a rip off and a waste of your time. I'd much rather go to Platos closet for reselling as they are simply more professional about it. read more

I don't think I'll be selling here again. They always seem to have have a condescending attitude and I waited over 2 hours for my things to be seen (they insist you stay in the store, naturally, so you end up shopping and buying things). They turned down some perfectly good items, claiming they were too worn--this was said about a dress that I wore once and was in perfect condition. And the others they said were the wrong style--these I promptly took to Second Time around when they were gladly accepted. This makes no sense to me, because Second Time around has a much better selection of designer clothes, whereas Crossroads's selection is a lot of garbage with a few good items mixed in. And most of them had more wear and tear than what I brought in! Basically I don't think these employees at Crossroads know what they're doing. So I ended up with $47 store credit for the following: brand new pairs of Jbrand and Mauvi jeans, a handbag from express, another bag I bought at a boutique for $80 and a Banana Republic button down with the tag still on. Seems pretty crappy if you ask me. I did leave with a pretty cool Marc by Marc Jacobs bag though, so 2 stars for that. Even that felt like finding a needle in a haystack though. read more

As a frequent thrifter and penny-pincher, I love this store and the people that work here. I like a thrift store that has standards, so you know that you aren't rifling through a bunch of crap. Loved the funky atmosphere and the great staff. Didn't like how the clothes were organized....all sizes together and grouped by color. I did like that the place was not overly stuffed with stuff which made the place more shoppable. Love this place when I go shopping they have the cutest stuff for so cheap! However for used clothing it can sometimes be over priced... Besides that today I went to sell ray bans that I have and I hate the way they look on me and I went there right when they opened and they're was a 45 min wait... I explained to the lady that it is just one pair of sunglasses she took a look at em right away and didn't even examine them and said "I think I will have to pass on this one, sorry." All because it had one tiny little scratch... Which is fine if that's the policy but she came of extremely rude and I couldn't understand why they wouldn't buy them especially when I called the day before and she said they always buy them... Needed a new wardrobe for an upcoming girls trip so a few of us hit the Lincoln Park resale circuit. Here's the up & mostly downs of Crossroads. Up-store was really clean. Downs-so difficult to find parking (ended up 4 blocks away), staff not friendly , shirts were in color order but not sized so a pain to find to look through tons to find a medium and lastly very pricey based on the other shops we went to that day. This store was our last stop since Untitled is next door. My friend lives by the Wicker Park store and said that one is better. There are better options. read more
