This is an unsuspecting bar on the 4900 block of S State Street in Murray. It is literally a 5 minute or less walk from the back door of thr Hilton Home2 Suites. The website boasts the name of the bar comes from thr Aesop poem of the same name. However, from my experience, the theme mostly takes its cue from Edgar Allen Poe's the Raven. The food and drinks have some wonderfully and amusing macabre names that you have to see for yourself. The food and drinks are good, walked in around 10pm on a Friday and was welcomed by loud thumping music by their DJ. The place gathered more of a crowd the closer to closing time which was interesting. There is a large section in the back alongside the main bar section. Definitely give this place a try. They have a great little dessert called "crow nuts" which should not be confused with cronuts, a variation on a donut. Instead crow nuts are fried spheres of dough covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. It goes well with a cocktail or two, including my favorite "Attempted Murder". In this part of town, at a late time of night, there are precious few options to get something not in a drive-thru and something not in a bag. So when the Yelp app picked up this spot as an "Open Now" option and I recognized the name as one that had piqued my curiosity, I pointed the truck in their direction and headed this way. It's not much from the outside--just a storefront on State Street in Murray with some signage. But when you walk in, it's a little more than you thought it might be. We had a discussion about what kind of bar this is. Dive? Nah, it's a bit nicer than that and with better food. More like neighborhood bar. So we grabbed a seat after showing IDs and looked through the menu. Although there are salads, this ain't health food. Case in point: the Murder Plate (platter?) that we ordered: fries, onion rings, fried pickles, mozzarella sticks, fried corn balls. It was Taco Tuesday, so we got a pork and a buffalo chicken taco. We made a resolution to go back and try the pulled pork grilled cheese because duh. It was a pretty low-key crowd with the exception of a young fella who was lit up having a night. He finally got kicked out which was the right call, and the bartender (Angela, maybe?) was having zero of it and handled it well. If you're in the area and looking for food and it's late (and you don't mind eating in a bar), this is the perfect fit. If you're after bar food, this is a great fit. This neighborly pub is nice to come for a good burger and hear music if I come for a gig. Today I showed up for brunch, prices are good. Service is awesome each time I come. I had the Crow Hash The hash browns today were crispy smashed tater tots. Did they not have hash browns? I think you ought to try this place out. There is corn hole to play on the patio. Cute place with great food and a fun staff. I wanted the Philly Fries (cheese fries with rib eye Philly meat), but they had run out of the meat. Not to be discouraged, the server suggested chicken. I saw they had pulled pork on another dish and asked if we could sub that instead. Great choice! The fries would have been tasty on their own but were amazing with cheese and pork! The pork was moist and delightfully seasoned. And I'm a native Texan so am picky about my pulled pork. Hubs got the Pizza Burger, which is topped with mozzarella sticks and pepperoni, then smothered in marinara sauce. He was very happy with his choice and I did not get my usual sample. They have a great selection of cocktails, including local brews. Looks like a great patio too. We're about to move to SLC and we will definitely be back. read more

Cool spot and most relaxed drinking experience in SLC. They even have drink specials. This was the only place I encountered with drink special in 7 days while visiting. Maybe its just stupid laws but at every establishment I went to the servers and bartenders were uptight and had a list of rules. Not here. Just relaxed chill service and great tacos! read more

This place was not at all what I was expecting. I imagine this review may or may not be seen by the owner and I imagine the response would be... well we don't want your kind anyway. What is my kind? I don't know, but that seems like that would be the response. The super pork sandwich (I forget the cute name) was the best part of this, great bread texture and the meat was well cooked. All it lacked was a little more sauce but they provided me with some. High high high hopes for the Reuben eggrolls but... I don't know the flavor was weird and when I added the Russian dressing dipping sauce it made it even weirder. They are a huge seller and most other people have gone and loved them, but it just made me feel weird. Drinks were okay I don't know why but I also had high hopes for their signature cocktails but they didn't really deliver. Now the jalapeno corn bites. I like those I could have gobbled those up over and over and over again. Sweet from the corn, spice from the jalapeno. It went great. THE VERDICT: Not 100% sure but this is definitely between a 3 and a 4 and as I writer this (christmas time). I will give them a four star but be warned I think this may be an overall hit and miss place. I hope everything you order is a hit. read more

Cute little bar off the beaten path in a historic part of town. I love the fable which inspired the bar's name. I've wanted to try it for awhile and finally stopped in for a drink and some food. Average drink menu with daily specials, and a few signature cocktails which are cleverly bird-themed. Food menu wasn't large but had typical bar fare to offer. Unfortunately, if you are vegan or vegetarian there's not much to choose from--you'll have to revert to the old days of ordering a plain salad or a grilled cheese, there's no veggie burger option either. Somewhat "clique-ish" with a regular crowd who tend to favor the attention of the the bar tender over new folks. Great for a quick "pre-game" beer prior to your main event, but probably not the place to spend your whole evening. read more

This is a great local restaurant/bar. Being from out of town the bartenders made me feel welcome. Tuesday was taco night, Wednesday was wings, and Thursday was burger. Yes I went 3 nights in a row. All the food specials were very good. The bar is small but has plenty of tables, they always had some good music playing. I definitely recommend and will go back. It was a bit noisy and there was a particular guest causing trouble. The staff dealt with him though. We ordered the Murder basket and taco specials being Tuesday and all. Basket had the variety of fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken, onion rings, and these nacho corn bites. All were good, nothing special but cooked right. Variety of sauces to choose from. I love buffalo chicken everything but this taco was just ok. The tortilla could have been fresher. The carnitas was ok but really needed some lime and salsa to round out the flavor profiles. There were definitely some other menu items that stood out and I would definitely come back to try. In the end I think the options we picked just weren't what really highlights this place. Such a cool find. I ordered the wings which were super crispy and absolutely delicious! The sweet heat sauce was perfect. I also got the buff salad which was tasty and doesn't make you feel super guilty for anyone who's watching what they eat but still want to go out. What an awesome bar and stellar find this place turned out to be. They start by knocking it out of the park with some great deals, for example we came for the mimosas and they were some nice sized mimosas, pair that with the $2 sunday special and you have a winner! The staff is exceptional, super welcoming and insightful. I believe I met the owner on my visit and he couldn't have been a more down to earth and nice you can tell he loves this bar. So bummed they opened right after we moved to Bountiful. We lived right up the block and would have easily made this a local hang out for us. It's right along state street near the Murray theater and although it looks small upon entering, it goes back pretty far into the back with the pool tables and then there is a patio on the side with tables and a putting green. The booths when you walk in are comfy and face the tvs and the bar itself is small but cozy. The bar staff is fantastic and super friendly. We came here on Sat for Paint Nite at 3pm for my birthday. The space looked like it would be cramped but it was fine once we started painting and you could actually hear the artist which isn't always the case with some of other locations. The drinks were great and decently priced. My husband ordered the sweet heat wings and I ordered the murder basket to split with some of the other people in our group. The wings were delicious according to the hubby, they were cooked well and the combo of the sweet and spicy with the perfect amount of heat. They came with a side of celery that were in a blue cheese sauce. Very interesting way of adding the side veggies with the wings. The basket was a sampler platter with fries, onion rings, corn bites, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks and pickle spears. The mozzarella sticks were so scrumptious with the batter perfectly crisp and the cheese nice and gooey, but there wasn't any marinara sauce to dip on the side (that's ok I didn't need it they were so good). The onion rings were also nice and crisp and the chicken was cooked well. The most interesting thing in the basket was the fried pickles. They had batter on them and then quickly fried but it didn't make the pickle hot and mushy it still had the crisp crunch to it. Never had something like that before. Definitely excited about the venue and hope to be able to come back and check them out during regular hours. Great service and the cocktails were yummy.
