The Crown & Anchor is a Thousand Oaks hidden gem that's tucked in off of Skyline Drive and Thousand Oaks Blvd. It's been in the neighborhood for several years and it's the place to go if you are in the mood for some English faire. Whether you are looking to drink, eat or both, they have you covered. Their full bar has all your favorite poisons, as well as a variety of British/U.K. Imported beers that may or may not entice you to start speaking like a Brit. Their menu has pub specialties and favorites, I personally recommend the King Fish n Chips or the Shepherds Pie. They have a variety of items that you would traditionally see on a menu while in England, but if you want that American Burger, don't worry they have that for you too. There is a bar area for 21+ as well as the restaurant portion of the restaurant that's family friendly. If you feel like sitting outside and having a drink, come join the party. This is a great place to watch sports, have a drink or two and/or enjoy a nice meal with family and friends. I was assaulted by a male bartender at this establishment on the evening of July 12 2024 only because I complained that my drink was thrown away while I was at the patio, when I complained the bartender's excuse was that I was away from my drink for too long, I replied " no worries it will just reflect on the tip" shortly after the male bartender walks around the counter & kicks the bar stool from under me & causes me to fall down, then he yelled at me telling me to leave. I called the police to complain about the assault & the manager of Crown & Anchor lied & said that I called a female bartender a bi**h. This violent behavior by the male bartender was unprovoked, he should be fired. I will no longer go to this place, it is unfortunate because I had a lot of fun with the band & met a lot of really cool people there. read more

Overall a good experience. I went to watch a soccer game around noon on a Wednesday. The food was fair but they charge $6 for three club soda from the gun. It is fine to charge for it in my opinion, but you should let the customer know. read more

First, I have one star because I cannot give zero. My wife and I walked into the not very busy bar side of this establishment. We sat ourselves at the bar. 15 mins later, the bartender (and manager for the night) was still having a spat with his blond coworker. We decided, after watching him serve some patrons (assuming the are regulars as we still didn't exist) without even looking our way. Another 15 mins and we still had y been looked at or talked to at all. We then decided to get up and look for a better managed establishment. This a great place. Don't let the dingy signage and exterior fool you, it's fun inside. The pub is decorated with various British trinkets but not obnoxiously so. The food is slap bang spot on. As a British person myself I was impressed they managed to cover pretty much every British dish that matters. My food and my partner's looked, felt and tasted authentic. To preface, I've been going to Crown and Anchor since 2006. It's always been my neighborhood pub/dive bar with varying degrees of charm over the years. They've got a good beer selection, great classic English pub food standards and they're possibly the only game in town if you want food and beer served until midnight from a restaurant that isn't a chain. Their staff has always been what brought me back, though I haven't been a patron much after the pandemic as all of my favorite staff members ended up elsewhere as restaurants re-opened and the staff since didn't have the same home-y feel. However, this year I have noticed a trend back towards my old favorite late night haunt. The bartenders, hosts, and waiters have for the most part been great, but Ashlee has been a particular stand out. She is super friendly and personable, she remembers names and drink preferences (always an impressive feat), and I never find myself waiting to order another drink or more food. I've even seen her settle down some aggressive drunk customers promptly with authority and grace. The rest of the team has been trending towards more personable as well. I hope the management at C&A keeps this up. It's certainly resulted in significantly more business from me. read more

It took me a long time to write this review and it really makes me sad to do so. I would like to start by saying that I moved here from the bay area about 2 years ago and this was the first pub I started going to. I like the people and the live music. The drinks and food is what you would expect from a local pub. Nothing spetacular but doesnt break the bank. However, what I witnessed here Friday Night made me extremelly disappointed and with no desire to come back. The bartender refused to serve a black man that was with a group of people which led to a huge argument between them. The blonde waitress also refused to serve him and was even more rude saying things I am embarassed to type here. One of the guys in the group got so agitated (rightously so) and kept asking the bartender why they couldnt have a beer there and the bartender just could not answer him. I felt extremelly bad for them and embarrassed for the whole situation. I hope the owners can do something about both employees. This type of behavior is damaging to both their business but also to our community in general who should be welcoming of everyone. read more

My fiancé wanted fish and chips at the Thousand Oaks fish and chips but they just closed when we arrived. I went to Yelp and found the Crown and Anchor. Place feels like and authentic British pub.. old world and charming. Staff was quick to attend to us and she confirmed that their specialty was the fish. It came out piping hot and wow! Delicious. We like to come here for late night dinners, if you want delicious, hearty food this is the place. It's your standard British pub fare but done very well. This time I had the corned beef pastey with a Guinness, really hit the spot! Most dishes are super filling though, be prepared. Quite reasonable prices for filling comfort foods (mmm... mashed potatoes and peas). It was a typical lively Friday and we were still able to talk in the dining section. Also, we always have good service. Tonight our waitress (the receipt said her name was Mickey - a nice blonde girl) was incredibly sweet despite some other customers who were a bit rude. This time I was extremely disappointed by the fact there are no prices on the menu, not only that , they would not tell us the price until the check came, My first instinct was to get up and leave but we had brought a guest along to celebrate her birthday. Out of caution we decided to just order sandwiches and have water to drink . I had the pot roast sandwich and French fries , a trifle small , it tasted ok . This spot figures to be a little more intimate, with a slightly smaller space, though it's still big enough to host larger groups. Known as the local British pub in town, this mostly indoor bar offers a pretty solid nightlife scene with an outdoor front patio. The fact that it's open till 2am every day makes it even more of an attractive option to become a regular at. While I've been here countless times before, my most recent trip was this past Monday, 7/3/17, before the 4th of July. We showed up sometime around 10:30-11PM for a night out on the town and were not disappointed. Our group of 7 all had a blast. Beers and shots ensued, and the rest is history. Drink prices here are pretty average in comparison to other places in the Conejo Valley. I believe my IPA's came in at about $7/pint. If looking for a bar on the calmer side to chill at, this is your spot. Crown and Anchor has the perfect pub atmosphere with some solid beer options. This is a Thousand Oaks staple that has been around for a while, and I'm almost certain to come back again at some point. If you haven't been, definitely give this place a try. read more

To the person who posted a pic of iced water, that had better be at least 80 proof water. Honestly, who walks into a British pub and orders a pint of water. (I speak in jest.) This is a very British pub. For American English speakers, "chips" are French Fries and "crisps" are the potato chips you are used to. I came here with a group of coworkers to unwind after work and enjoy a pint or six. We were not disappointed. One coworker loved his Jack and Coke (very American) while another coworker enjoyed a Blackthorne cider. A fellow coworker who was of British, Irish, and Scottish descent (imagine the family conflict there) ordered a Guiness along with a meat pie. He was very happy, as that was the closest he got to the real thing. (The real thing has baked pastry top and bottom, but this one was baked like a pot pie.) There's just something about the gravy here. It goes incredibly well with almost everything, from fries to the meat pie, to the Sunday roast. And for reasons, there's curry on the menu too. I confess I mostly come here for the profiteroles. It is meant for 2-4 people but I eat it all by myself. There's just something about the many scoops of iced cream sandwiched by pastry and covered in chocolate syrup that makes it ridiculously unsharable. Maybe I'm just selfish. Oh well, tomato, toe mah toe. Another very hard to find British appetizer is the Scotch egg. This is a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried. Very tasty. Came once on a Friday evening. There was a live band playing. The music was pretty good, but I made the mistake of sitting next to the stage. Took a few days for my hearing to return to normal levels. When there aren't bands playing, you can play darts there. In short, a very British experience. The only thing missing is a blue police box and a sonic screwdriver (wink). HP, Coleman, right in front of you as you order. the British menu with the sausage rolls and scotch eggs are on point all of the time. I've been there 5x in 2 weeks, I can't get enough.
