    Vibe outside

I've been a patron of PJ's Sports Pub for a few years now, and I have to say, it's a quintessential local hang out that perfectly embodies the spirit of a no-frills, neighborhood dive bar. If you're looking for a fancy, upscale place with craft cocktails and modern decor, this might not be your scene. But if you want cold beer, solid pub grub, and a relaxed atmosphere where everyone eventually knows your name, then pull up a stool. The Atmosphere & Vibe The vibe here is incredibly casual. It's got that old-school feel that a lot of us appreciate. There are TVs everywhere showing various sports games, a couple of well-maintained pool tables, and dart boards, so there's always something to do besides just drinking. The jukebox plays a great mix of music, from country to rock, which really adds to the character of the place. It can get busy, especially during a big game or on Sunday karaoke nights, which are a blast. You might feel a bit like an outsider if you're not a regular at first, as there's definitely a core group of locals perched at the bar, but the staff and most patrons are generally welcoming and friendly once you're in the mix. The place could use a bit of a refresh in terms of decor and cleanliness in the restrooms, as some have noted, but honestly, that just adds to the authentic dive charm. Food & Drinks Let's talk about the food, because it's surprisingly good for a pub. The menu is classic bar fare, but executed really well. The grilled cheese sandwich? Hands down, the best in Ventura County. I pair it with the crispy onion rings, and it's a "bomb" combination every time. The burgers are juicy, and their jalapeño blue cheese nachos are a zesty delight. Prices are fair, making it a great spot for an inexpensive lunch or dinner. The drinks are also reasonably priced, with a good selection of draft and bottled beers. The bartenders are generally attentive and friendly, pouring stiff drinks that definitely give you value for your money. A quick tip: order simple drinks like beer or a basic cocktail, and you'll have a great experience. Service - A Mixed Bag Service can be a little hit or miss depending on the day and the specific bartender, which is typical for a busy local spot. While most staff members like Gracie or Paul are fantastic and make you feel right at home, there have been some instances of slow service or less-than-friendly interactions from others, and a few customers have mentioned management issues. However, my personal experiences have generally been positive, and the good service outweighs the occasional off night. Final Thoughts PJ's Sports Pub is an honest, unpretentious place to unwind. It's a local institution that's been around for generations, and it's still thriving for a reason. Come for the pool, the karaoke, the cheap drinks, and that legendary grilled cheese. It might have its quirks, but it's a place with character and a strong community feel. I'll definitely be back for another round and a game of darts!

    parking lot at night

Over priced horrible service bartenders are rude drinks are under made I definitely would not recommend this place if the drinks were free! I would give them a half of a star if that was an option on here!

Wow Andy you sure have a lot to say which is all false the owners and management work extremely hard in all aspects of our business sounds like your upset we cancelled trivia? All of your accusations are false and not accurate we sell hundreds of thousands of these dishes you've mentioned all made in house and fresh with rave reviews and what's funny most people will look at your outrageous post and list and laugh at how inaccurate it is. We obviously cannot help the ranting you have made and the quiz patrons feel free to not come back if you are going to falsely slander our business they way you have. Very disappointed in the amount of false statements you've made but that what Yelp is a platform for people to hide behind rather than calling an owner or manager to discuss true facts. Good luck in your future endeavors at better restaurants we obviously aren't the place for you. so kim... exactly what did I say that wasnt true? that one of my teamates won't come anymore because your ladies room is not up to cleanliness standards? that your food is wildly inconsistent? that your managers have told me that ownership doesn't give a crap about quality? Hate to break it to you but no one in the room of 60+ people was disappointed when our quizmaster told us that we wouldn't be having trivia at the crown and anchor anymore. There were even a few cheers! and we didn't miss a single trivia night because he had pre arranged to switch our wednesday night trivia to a different restaurant that although it is an even further drive for me and my team, the food is much better, completely consistent and ownership of the restaurant takes pride in the product they put out. We have been asking our quizmaster for years to find an alternative to the crown and anchor.... We go to wednesday night trivia because we love the quality of the quiz and we suffer through your food as a sort of "necessary evil" and you can accuse me of not approaching you personally when there was a problem with a meal but the fact of the matter is that I have approached your managers several times with issues (like when the iced tea had no flavor or the fries tasted like they were cooked in filthy oil or the chili breadbowl was stale) and those same managers (multiple) said that you weren't there and you didn't really care about the product the crown and anchor put out. you could have just apologized for my negative experience but instead you accused me of lying and slander. And just because you manage to stay in business doesn't mean that you are putting out good/consistent product.

We decided to stop in after our session at Rock Steady Boxing for lunch, great decor both outside and inside, fairly quiet for a late lunch crowd but our server covered the entire floor. We wanted to try what I saw on the social media feed and our server pointed out which one it was. A mixed platter of house smoked brisket, sausage, pulled pork, chicken legs and wings, and ribs. Slices of white bread, Cole slaw, sliced onions and pickles. A trio of BBQ sauces and then a side of cowboy beans and tallow tater tots. We sat separately, 4 or us were at the couch and it was dirty with leftover food scraps, drink markings on the table, and lots of dog fur. It was hard to eat our food in that area. For appetizers we had: - deviled eggs - came with 5 halves and were just meh - poke nachos - onion rings - massive for 5 ppl but pretty standard Entrees are slightly small but it matches the price. Peggy's crispy chicken sandwich was crispy but kinda tasteless. The truffle fries came with lots of cheese and were good. The Wagyu burger was good. Splitting the check on the machine was so smooth. You can do as many cards and separate by item, which was helpful for a large group.

The layout is one of the best parts of the place. It's incredibly open with plenty of seating inside, and the outdoor patio with live music is a huge plus. It never felt cramped, even when it started getting busy, and it's getting harder to find places that are designed this well for hanging out. What surprised me most was the wine list. I expected maybe a couple of basic options, but they actually have a solid selection featuring some well-respected Santa Barbara producers. It wasn't just the standard Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc either. There was enough variety that I had no problem finding something I genuinely enjoyed. Ordering through the QR code at the table was easy, and our drinks came out surprisingly fast, even during a busy rush. The system seemed to work really well. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back. The crowd isn't exactly my personal vibe, but that's completely subjective and didn't take away from the experience. If you're a wine drinker who's hesitant about going to a brewery, don't write this place off. There's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised too.
