    Vibe outside

I've been a patron of PJ's Sports Pub for a few years now, and I have to say, it's a quintessential local hang out that perfectly embodies the spirit of a no-frills, neighborhood dive bar. If you're looking for a fancy, upscale place with craft cocktails and modern decor, this might not be your scene. But if you want cold beer, solid pub grub, and a relaxed atmosphere where everyone eventually knows your name, then pull up a stool. The Atmosphere & Vibe The vibe here is incredibly casual. It's got that old-school feel that a lot of us appreciate. There are TVs everywhere showing various sports games, a couple of well-maintained pool tables, and dart boards, so there's always something to do besides just drinking. The jukebox plays a great mix of music, from country to rock, which really adds to the character of the place. It can get busy, especially during a big game or on Sunday karaoke nights, which are a blast. You might feel a bit like an outsider if you're not a regular at first, as there's definitely a core group of locals perched at the bar, but the staff and most patrons are generally welcoming and friendly once you're in the mix. The place could use a bit of a refresh in terms of decor and cleanliness in the restrooms, as some have noted, but honestly, that just adds to the authentic dive charm. Food & Drinks Let's talk about the food, because it's surprisingly good for a pub. The menu is classic bar fare, but executed really well. The grilled cheese sandwich? Hands down, the best in Ventura County. I pair it with the crispy onion rings, and it's a "bomb" combination every time. The burgers are juicy, and their jalapeño blue cheese nachos are a zesty delight. Prices are fair, making it a great spot for an inexpensive lunch or dinner. The drinks are also reasonably priced, with a good selection of draft and bottled beers. The bartenders are generally attentive and friendly, pouring stiff drinks that definitely give you value for your money. A quick tip: order simple drinks like beer or a basic cocktail, and you'll have a great experience. Service - A Mixed Bag Service can be a little hit or miss depending on the day and the specific bartender, which is typical for a busy local spot. While most staff members like Gracie or Paul are fantastic and make you feel right at home, there have been some instances of slow service or less-than-friendly interactions from others, and a few customers have mentioned management issues. However, my personal experiences have generally been positive, and the good service outweighs the occasional off night. Final Thoughts PJ's Sports Pub is an honest, unpretentious place to unwind. It's a local institution that's been around for generations, and it's still thriving for a reason. Come for the pool, the karaoke, the cheap drinks, and that legendary grilled cheese. It might have its quirks, but it's a place with character and a strong community feel. I'll definitely be back for another round and a game of darts!

Over priced horrible service bartenders are rude drinks are under made I definitely would not recommend this place if the drinks were free! I would give them a half of a star if that was an option on here!

Wow Andy you sure have a lot to say which is all false the owners and management work extremely hard in all aspects of our business sounds like your upset we cancelled trivia? All of your accusations are false and not accurate we sell hundreds of thousands of these dishes you've mentioned all made in house and fresh with rave reviews and what's funny most people will look at your outrageous post and list and laugh at how inaccurate it is. We obviously cannot help the ranting you have made and the quiz patrons feel free to not come back if you are going to falsely slander our business they way you have. Very disappointed in the amount of false statements you've made but that what Yelp is a platform for people to hide behind rather than calling an owner or manager to discuss true facts. Good luck in your future endeavors at better restaurants we obviously aren't the place for you. so kim... exactly what did I say that wasnt true? that one of my teamates won't come anymore because your ladies room is not up to cleanliness standards? that your food is wildly inconsistent? that your managers have told me that ownership doesn't give a crap about quality? Hate to break it to you but no one in the room of 60+ people was disappointed when our quizmaster told us that we wouldn't be having trivia at the crown and anchor anymore. There were even a few cheers! and we didn't miss a single trivia night because he had pre arranged to switch our wednesday night trivia to a different restaurant that although it is an even further drive for me and my team, the food is much better, completely consistent and ownership of the restaurant takes pride in the product they put out. We have been asking our quizmaster for years to find an alternative to the crown and anchor.... We go to wednesday night trivia because we love the quality of the quiz and we suffer through your food as a sort of "necessary evil" and you can accuse me of not approaching you personally when there was a problem with a meal but the fact of the matter is that I have approached your managers several times with issues (like when the iced tea had no flavor or the fries tasted like they were cooked in filthy oil or the chili breadbowl was stale) and those same managers (multiple) said that you weren't there and you didn't really care about the product the crown and anchor put out. you could have just apologized for my negative experience but instead you accused me of lying and slander. And just because you manage to stay in business doesn't mean that you are putting out good/consistent product.

The games start at 7 PM. At 6 PM, no problem getting a large table (we were 8 on our team). By 7, getting a big table would have been a challenge. My wife and I decided to share the Goomba pizza (really just a mushroom pizza with a cute name). A white pie with several types of mushrooms. ($24). A bit pricey for a bar pizza but tasty and large enough for the two of us to share. A scoop of their house made ice cream for dessert. Now that was quite good. And being a brewery, I had my choice of IPAs to pick from. Also NICE! Tarantula Hill Brewing is probably the most popular place to get drinks in the Thousand Oaks and Westlake/Agoura area. Don't ever expect it to be quiet because they'll have live bands, high school reunions, to even little kids birthday parties because of the ice cream store that they have at the back. What's nice, though, is that they have a brewing beer line and on the other side of the place, they have more cocktails and mocktails with an ice cream store in the back. Both times that I've been here, my boyfriend has gotten a beer while I will explore the cocktails menu. My boyfriend also likes that you can sample the beers and sours to see if you'd be interested in getting a full drink. They have a lot of good basic drinks, as well as the frozen blood orange margarita, which is my favorite and packs a punch. The first time we went, security wasn't really present, but it was during a weekday while when we went on a Saturday night, we noticed that security was going around giving wristbands. The only time we've had an issue is when we went the most previous time on a Saturday night and because their frozen margarita machine was being serviced, it was taking longer than usual to get my drink. When we first went to order, they said that they would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes so after 15 minutes, we went back to check again. A different worker told us that it would be another 15 minutes and then it should be ready shortly, so we waited again another 15 minutes and noticed that the machine still wasn't working. You end up feeling bad as a customer having to keep asking about something because you're not being updated or communicated to. It sucks because in the end, we ended up having to wait an hour or so in total just to get one drink, and by that time, my boyfriend had already drank two beers. I ended up having to get in line again and waiting behind a long line of people which took over 20 minutes just to get told that the frozen drinks had been ready for a while even though we had consistently been checking. When it comes to customer service, no one really seemed to care that we had to wait over an hour for one drink, as I know that they were swamped, but no consideration was present at all. I'm glad that when I finally got the drink that it was good, but because it was a frozen one apparently they had also made one on the rocks at the same time just in case the machine STILL wasn't ready after an hour (although we had been told that it would be ready in 10 to 15 minutes). We were upset to see that when we went to close out our tab, they put both the on the rocks and frozen margarita on our bill even though I had just wanted the one frozen blood orange margarita. All in all, it's nice that we have a place like Tarantula Hill in the Thousand Oaks area, but it's moments like those that discourage me from coming again in the future. If Tarantula Hill Brewing can find a better balance of handling the Friday to Sunday rush with people, then I feel like they would have a better loyal customer base and I'd love to keep being one of them.
