I've been to Crown and Crumpet before but in SF in a pop up in Japan Town. It felt a bit small so it's nice that they found a larger space. But it is quite a trek to get here unless you do live near Ross, CA. L O C A T I O N It is located in a quaint little "downtown" area with some shops. The parking situation is street parking but they do have lengthy parking times and plenty of time for you to enjoy an afternoon tea without having to repark. I N S I D E They have two areas of their cafe and a spacious area in the back where today they had a large group/party. We sat in the other area to the left of the entrance. It does have a separate entrance. The interior is cute! Very cottage core. In the main entrance, past the cashier area is the restroom. There's only one folks. That's a shame cause if you're having a bunch of tea, you can only imagine at some point, you'll be needing to use the restroom and if there are multiple groups there, you can only hope it's free when you need it. They do have everything in there though that you need. Just wish there was more than one as I was needing to brush my teeth while I was in there and it does take a bit of time. M E N U They have a preset Afternoon Tea but if you're unable to handle a lot of snacks and sandwiches, you can always order a la carte. Since we were going to be there for a while, we all decided to get it. Sizeable portion and we all ended up taking some of the "dessert" tray home. You also got a full pot of tea for each Afternoon Tea. So we chose a variety of teas and what's great is that they do refills which I appreciate! I loved the scones and crumpet with clotted cream and jam and butter. Scones always make me feel warm. The sandwiches were small but you know it's tea time so it has to be cute and delicate. They were around to help us out when we needed and stayed away while we were enjoying our time with our tea. The best kind of service. Important: Weekends tend to be very busy for Crown & Crumpet Café, so in order to ensure you'll have a table, you will need to put in a reservation at least a week in advance. The Ross location only has street parking, but generally I have not found issues with finding a parking spot. Pros: The staff is overall very friendly and the afternoon tea service has been some of the most affordable out of all the high tea services I've had so far. The savory pastries are delightful. I enjoyed the sausage roll, the tea sandwiches, and their buttery roll pastry. I also love the blueberry scone and crumpet, which goes perfectly well with the lemon curd, clotted cream, and jam. The staff goes into detail on what is served in the high tea service and also gives thorough recommendations on which teas are compatible with cream. I have had their tea service twice during Christmas holidays and they prepare fun little gifts for you! Cons: I personally had a good experience, so I can't say that there were any cons I faced. Overall: Crown & Crumpet Café has always been a tea shop I've been drawn to for their bright colors, décor, and its affordable tea service. I have been to their Christmas pop-up in 2021 at the Marin Art and Garden Center, their San Francisco location in 2024, and twice at the Ross location. Crown & Crumpet Café is the perfect place to have parties and dress up (especially in lolita fashion!). It's sad to see their shop locations have closed, but I am happy to see that they are not entirely gone, and I look forward to their pop-up events. We've visited Crown and Crumpet about three times, and each visit has been such a lovely experience. My teen daughter and I always looked forward to driving out to Ross -- it felt like a beautiful escape from the city. The back patio is peaceful, the neighborhood is charming, and it was such a special place for our mother-daughter tea time. Both the Ross and San Francisco Crown and Crumpet locations were open at the same time, and when the San Francisco shop closed a while ago, I was so grateful Ross was still there. I'm very sad to hear that this location will also be closing its doors, though it's nice to know they'll continue through catering and private events. It just won't be the same not having this unique and special place for us to visit in person. read more

Love this adorable tea place. My daughter and I have been to their original tea shop many moons ago located at Ghirardelli Square. Subsequently, they moved to Japantown, had another huge following. They have opened up shop in the town of Ross; I don't want them to ever close. It's literally in our own backyard. Dynamic duo owners Amy and Chris has a true passion for high tea. They offer etiquette classes, holiday-themed teas, savory and sweet bites all made with love. They survived the pandemic. They offer stellar catering and collaborate with other businesses and hotels to offer their divine tea service. My mom loves the crumpets and freshly made jams. It's fitting for any occasion(s). The tea service is very friendly and warm. They even have a kids menu with a smaller sampling of little bites, and sub hot chocolate for tea. Our little one loved it! They have many varieties of tea and I think I went with the French tea. I forget the variant but remember enjoying it. Super cute and whimsical place to enjoy a birthday meal and tea with my family. Our server Chris was attentive and so gracious. We especially loved hearing him talk (British perhaps?!). We ordered the Afternoon Tea for 2 people while hubby opted for their Chicken Pot Pie with salad and a sparkling water. If you aren't into the finger sandwiches and would like something hearty definitely get the Chicken Pot Pie! For my own pot of hot tea (part of the Afternoon Tea option) I decided on their 'Swamp Water' tea. I don't like the name, but the fruity tea was delicious which was pineapple, mango, & passionfruit loose tea. I think you could finish an afternoon tea in 2-2.5 hours, but of course they don't rush you. I think this is equally charming, in a small town way, as the Ghirardelli Location. What a lovely experience! I had about 90 minutes between appointments in central Marin yesterday and enjoyed afternoon tea at Crown and Crumpet. It could not have been a better experience. The main contact when I walked in was very gracious and welcoming. She asked if I had a seating preference. It was an exceptionally beautiful day, so the patio was the perfect choice. I was surprised when she told me they'd been open for four years! I wish I would have known sooner! I ordered afternoon tea for one, complemented by their private blend tea. Everything was delicious! I was so pleased with my experience that I purchased a gift certificate for a Christmas white elephant gathering in a couple of weeks. I'm going to become a regular! I've been a loyal Crown and Crumpet goer since its opening in Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco. It has remained a top favorite spot to enjoy high tea with my mother for many years...but has unfortunately gone down hill. While the cafe itself has kept is cute and cozy decor with friendly staff, the food has become subpar. All of the 3 sandwiches were clearly made with bread beyond its due date - dry and hard. The mini quiche and micro pig in a blanket, while cute in appearance, had no flavor and seemed as they had been made days before and should have been thrown out. The crumpet...one of my favorite items, was also not fresh. We disclosed our concerns regarding the stale food to the waitress and were made aware they recently acquired new chefs. This is very disappointing - in my dining experience, whenever there is a chef change...food rarely ever remains the same. If this was my first time at Crown and Crumpet, I would not come back. I do hope the owners begin close evaluation of the quality of their tea service as this is no longer a favorite. read more

We visited Crowded Crumpet today for an early birthday tea celebration for my soon-to-be four-year-old daughter, and it was absolutely magical. The service was exceptional--every single staff member was kind and welcoming. The tea was delicious, and all the treats were beautifully presented and so tasty. The whole atmosphere made the experience feel extra special. When I mentioned my daughter's birthday is on Sunday, they surprised her by singing happy birthday and even brought out a unicorn cupcake just for her. She had the best time. We had the elevated holiday tea which had several standouts-- the soup, the scones, and the spice cake dessert. Unfortunately, they were out of stock on all of their green teas so I was only able to try one of their Earl greys. I got a flat tire on the way to the restaurant, so I was a little late to my reservation, however the staff was accommodating as I kept them updated via call/text. The downside to being late though is less time for your reservation, I was not able to finish my last bit of tea, as the next party looking to be seated, wanted to sit at my table. We voluntarily rushed to give our seats away, while the hostess was also being rushed by that same party after us who wanted that particular window seat because they brought a wagon for their child that wouldn't fit anywhere else in the restaurant. My wife had a meeting in the area on Saturday and we decided to stop in on a whim. Making reservations online via Yelp was quick and easy, though it was not possible to adjust the reservation time online, since it was made same day. I called the cafe and left a voicemail to push our reservation half an hour, but never received a call back. We decided to show up anyway if our reservation had been cancelled we'd simply go somewhere else, however they seated us right away in the back patio. It would be nice if reservations indicated whether the seating is indoor or outdoor, especially for those of us with terrible seasonal allergies. The patio is beautiful and thankfully the weather was nice as well. Just keep in mind, they only have a two or three tables inside the front of the cafe so chances are you will be sitting outside on the patio. If this is an issue for you, I suggest calling to confirm, though based on my experience, you may have a tough time getting ahold of someone. We looked through the menu and my wife wanted to do the afternoon tea ($44 per person, which includes the tiered tower of snacks and a pot of tea) and based on the reviews here, I decided to go for the chicken pot pie. I also added a pot of tea, which is $8 and surprisingly not listed anywhere on the menu. Then we waited... and waited... it took quite a long time for the tea to come out, then another lengthy wait for the food. The pot pie was good, though pretty small considering the $20 price tag and the puff pastry on top wasn't very crispy. It was essentially 3/4" of filling and the puff pastry on top was more than 2/3 of the height. Again, it was good, but wasn't significantly better than the frozen ones you can get at Costco. The tower of snacks for the afternoon tea is impressive when it comes out and includes way more food than a single person can reasonably eat, but they make a fuss about sharing one, charging extra for split fees and such. Overall, the items were good - the berry scone was the best thing and the lemon curd is delicious. Given the price, we were expecting loose leaf tea, but got tea bags instead. I think that's a huge missed opportunity! Overall, it was a fun experience, especially for someone that has not experienced the whole afternoon tea thing, but in my opinion, it's of questionable value. read more

Luckily I was able to reserve again, but this time in the very cute, very sleepy, very quaint town of Ross. I took my friend here for her first very afternoon tea and we had SO MUCH FUN. It is deceptively a LOT of food. The tea is delicious (always. get. Darjeeling) and the desserts were colourful, pretty, and actually really good. I even felt the service here was more relaxed and genuine (in SF you almost always felt a teeny bit rushed, plus it was a little weird to be in the foyer of a mall-ish area). The girls working were the sweetest ever. They overheard my friend & I talking about this being my make-up birthday luncheon and brought over a cupcake and candle and sang to me. We missed the Crown and Crumpet in San Francisco's Japantown, so I'm glad there's this location. We arrived on a busy day. Lots of lil kids with parents and family were enjoying their tea. It felt like we were one of the few purely adult parties. Our service was slow. After our holiday tower arrived, after quite a long wait, I had to remind the servers who were fussing over other tables to provide our curds and cream for the scones. We had to call for the server's attention to try other teas as well. I recognize children steal the show easily but it would've been nice to get the same care and attention regardless if we had kids or not. The food and tea was lovely. Very cute location. read more

I attended my cousin's baby shower here. It was set in the backyard area, super cute and private area for bigger groups and parties. The host was so energetic and funny. I wished I remembered her name. My favorites of everything on our tower were the savory+sweet flakey pastry (had some sort of fig jam? and a savory element I think cheese+meat--sorry really wish I knew what it was called), lemon curd + clotted cream, ham/cheese sandwich. There were a few different tea flavors being offered, but after I tried the Paris, I pretty much stuck with it the entire time. It smelled so nice, vanilla! I will now be seeking out teas with vanilla! My mom really liked her peach flavored tea and stuck with that one too. The decor was very girly, the tea party of my childhood dreams. There is limited indoor eating for about 8-12 people, and a lovely secluded garden space in the back that seats about 20-25 people, I'd guess. Delicious and wide choices of well-prepared teas. Our guests were complimentary about the tasty chicken pot pies. The sausage rolls were good, as was the ham and cheese sandwich on a pretzel baguette. Clearly the star of the shop, though, is tea. I saw a tea tray delivered to a neighboring table, laden with finger sandwiches and cakes. Can't speak to the quality of the food on the tea tray, but the patrons seemed to enjoy it. There is a wide range of teas, well described on the menu, available. Service was prompt and pleasant, and our experience was unrushed. A very relaxing ninety minutes or so.
