Great fried food at this location. Great value too. We got super crispy chicken tenders and fries (ask for the seasoning on top of fries). Yummy treat! Friendly staff.

Great, basic fried chicken. The decor of the restaurant is pretty so so, but the chicken is great. Best as a takeout place.

The younger guys running food and guys standing around chatting with each other weren't helpful. They saw my friends water cups were low but didnt offer any refills. I saw one of them putting food in the to go area when I walked up to the host stand, we made eye contact but no greeting at all. There were 2 tables who sat down way after us but immediately received their food. We ordered Lobby Pops, Lobster Rolls, Haddock Sandwich and their lobster flights. My cousin's food came out before ours, we only ordered 1 lobby pop and a haddock sandwich this visit. The wait wasn't too long but 45mins for just 1 lobster tail on a stick is ridiculous. My cousins larger order came out 15 minutes before ours. Maybe they were working on our sauce? My husband's Haddock sandwich was paper thin. The lettuce was thicker than the actual fish. Would not recommend it. Lobby pop was tasty. Blood Mary was okay, nothing special. Tasted fresh. I do love their charred pineapple sauce. Highlight of this place. It was creamy and refreshing. Honestly, don't think I'll recommend this to anyone. You can get better tentative service elsewhere and have yummy lobster. Saw others on here recently having customer service issues as well. I took all of my friends and family who visited from out of town here but its not the place anymore. Christmas decor was beautiful. But now maybe the staff changed, not a fan anymore. Disappointing...

Room for improvement - lobster roll and clam chowder. First the lobster roll. For the price, this was the smallest lobster roll we had the entire trip. The flavor was underwhelming and I've never seen someone try and shred lobster as fine as here. Second - the clam chowder. I'm not sure what the green oil was as it lacked flavor and the bacon overpowered the entire soup. In a state with a plethora of seafood, I'm not sure I would make a return visit.

The bread was toasted a bit too long and came out harder than I would've liked. The lobster itself was good, but it didn't taste especially fresh -- almost like it had been sitting out waiting for pickup and then got handed to me later. Not trying to say that's what they did, just trying to draw a picture. That said, the service out front was great and the location right on the pier gives you really nice views and a great atmosphere. Maybe some of the other menu items are better, I'm just not sure. Especially since the lobster roll is what they are known for. So far from my visit to Maine, the Lobster roll at Bite Into Maine still holds the top spot. Luke's wasn't bad by any means, just not something I'd personally say was worth the premium price or would bother to try again.

We liked it more than Scales which I think might be a less popular opinion. The ambiance was very rustic and cozy. It did feel a little cramped and the first table they sat us at was in the middle of a bunch of other tables and I really don't think it would be a nice table for anyone. Thankfully they moved us to a corner/booth which was very nice of them. Even in the corner it was still a little cramped which is my reason for not giving it 5 stars. The pasta dish with lobster in a red sauce was divine. Full of other seafood in addition to the lobster like mussels and clams too. It was definitely messy but the flavor was fantastic. Tons of garlic which we love. The octopus appetizer was also delicious. Very charred which normally I wouldn't like but it worked very well with this dish. We also got hummus which was a special appetizer. It was ok- not very memorable. The desserts didn't appeal to us (maybe we were just too full). Would love to return if we find ourselves back in Portland!

From the moment you arrive, you know you are walking into a quality restaurant. We sat at the bar, what a show! We got immediate attention, got our drink order right away, got to see everyone behind the bar work in harmony. We then ordered some oysters, watch out, they come to you, up front and close. They shuck them right in front of you, explain what they are and where they came from and leave you the condiments to enjoy. THE BEST OYSTERS I've had in my life and I've had them all over the world. Fresh, soft delicate goodness. After you are done, they send the ice and shells down a hole built in the bar! Genius! The tuna crudo was sooo good! It is made in front of you, carefully and artfully arranged on a plate. A masterpiece! The specials where then covered and today I wanted to have one of each is an understatement. We both had to order the brown butter halibut, good God that was so delicious. Insanely delicious! We were told that there is one chef that dedicates their time cooking this dish as well as the scallops. Can't beat that! My hubby ordered some rolls to "sop up" some of that brown butter goodness and he was not disappointed. Everyone was so happy, talkative, truly enjoying the evening. Their website provided a great description on what to do if you do not have a reservation. For walk-ins, you'll need to be there before it opens, which we did on a Saturday and there was already a line even in the rain! So definitely keep that in mind if you did not make a reservation in advance. We arrived at 4:15pm and got a table for 5:15pm (you can go walk around old port once you put your name down). The server was amazing at providing explanations of the dishes and also providing amazing recommendations based on your taste. Two absolute favorites: meat pie and their maple sundae (this is by far the best sundae I've had in my life so no matter how full you are, I highly recommend it!!). Everything else we got - wood oven roasted haddock fillet, zucchini and summer squash, wood fire turn spit chicken were all very tasty as well. You can't go wrong with any of them. In the future, I'd probably make a reservation in advance and request to sit where the cooking is happening- it's really cool that you can see them do their magic by the wood oven. I also like how the seatings are nicely spaced for a very busy restaurant. I will say, we waited ~40 mins in between apps and entrees (wood oven roasted dishes), so keep that in mind if you have post dinner plans.

We honestly did not have anything planned for dinner but luckily, we were able to get a table for two without reservation. Something unique about this restaurant is that they have a large, open hearth with wood-burning oven + grill. A bunch of their menu offerings are cooked over hardwood and applewood fires, giving it a distinct flavor. Their menu changes often and they source their ingredients from local suppliers. Here's what we ordered: - Beef Cheeks (special of the day) - Half a Dozen Oysters - Haddock Fillet (x2) - Roasted Carrots (side) The beef cheeks were succulent and cooked perfectly. This dish came with broccolini, one of my favorite veggies! We were surprised how tender the beef cheeks were... pretty much falling apart with each bite. I'd totally get this again! I LOVE OYSTERS, so we definitely had to get a half a dozen of oysters to try hehe. All of the oysters were clean and tasted very fresh, great start to our meal. We both ended up getting a haddock fillet & I'm so happy we ordered this. It was flavorful and almost everything about this dish was on point. One thing that we both noticed was, since the haddock is in a cast iron skillet, the fish continues to cook as you eat. The fish basically started to get a little overcooked and dry, making it difficult to finish. BUT I do love cast iron skillet dishes because I love my food hot & it keeps the food hot until I'm finished eating haha. So there's definitely pros & cons to that. Lastly, we ordered a side of roasted carrots to share with our entree. I've never had carrots cooked so evenly through. I loved the texture of the carrots but wished it was more flavorful. I typically like my carrots maple/honey roasted for a touch of sweetness. While the carrots were nicely cooked, they fell a bit short for me, in terms of flavor. The haddock fillet and beef cheeks were definite highlights, and despite the carrots being the only dish that didn't quite wow us, I'd absolutely recommend Fore Street and look forward to returning on my next trip to Portland!
