First time going, had very high expectations and went in with high hopes; wanted it to be my new favorite place, turned out to be a staggering disappointment unfortunately. I love fried chicken and I can see this place really taking off if it were run by friendlier staff and had more convenient parking. Its a big place for a what it looks like from the road. Could seat at least 25, but its always lookin like a ghost town in there, empty, why? Here's why: This would be the third time I've gone into this building where its been a different restaurant. The two other businesses went out of business and I expect the same for this "CFC" in its chain. Perhaps solely from its location. The overall layout of the design of the restaurant hasnt been altered whatsoever from its old layout and makes me wonder how dedicated any of these new business owers are. I don't even know if the walls have been repainted from the terrible yellow it is. 1. Price. Too expensive for greasy fast food. 2. Location, location, location. Terribly located. You'll see. 3. TINY parking lot. Could fit maybe 4 cars, and there being room for about 25 people inside, i have no idea what the designer is thinking. 4. The one employee was an old man who, despite me and my girlfriends glowing smiles (exited to try a new place) sternly grilled down our faces as we ordered and then slowly walking over to make our order as if it were an inconvenience to him. 5. Glass display counter could be utilized for displaying hot foods or at least something better than what it was being used for as a place for pizza pans to be stacked so much so that I couldn't even see behind the counter to see if my food being dropped into the deep fryer. 6. Overwhelming menu. Maybe this would be a good thing if there were four employees behind the counter cooking all of these things for many people coming in and out but this place is dead most of the day/week. It's a shame too because I was reading any another review of somebody who knows of a CFC in a different area that they really enjoy and says is popular. 7. When I got my order of "chicken fingers" & fries with a soda (in about 3 minutes. Good time!) I was ready to grab my can of soda from the fridge directly behind the cashier but he handed me a cup and pointed me towards the fountain drinks machine even though the every picture in the menu is of a can. (Bummer! Was so excited for that can of black cherry ginger ale!) The chicken fingers or more like chicken tender shaped chicken nuggets. When you tore them apart they would have air pockets in them. Kind of like McDonalds chicken nuggets. Speaking of McDonald's, the French fries are thin and spindly like McDonalds fries which I like and I found the entire meal to be delicious ( deep fry anything and it'll be delicious) but definitely not worth $9.18!!! 3.5/10 Will not go again. read more

Super bummed out with the experience I had here tonight. I was told that they did not take phone orders and that I would have to come in to make an order in person so I did. While I was there I watched six people get their phone orders while I waited and probably got covid in the waiting room. What is that about!? I'm surprised at the negative reviews. I guess those people would rather pay $4.00 per piece for chicken than $1.55 per piece. If you do the math, this is the most economical chicken take-out in Portland. It's not the best tasting, but it's not bad. The pieces are average sized. At least they aren't from midget chickens like the chicken from one of the other chicken places in town. I'm a fan for the price. read more

Friendly staff, amazing food. - I had the (dreaded) privilege assigned to me of handling a large office food order - so with a massive list of fried chicken, kebabs, lamb, rice, shrimp, fries, fingers and sides as well as soda etc i approached them timidly afraid i would mess everything up for the office. They not only readily made sure they had everything written down for me but promptly filled the order and helped bag everything with plates forks etc. Comments from the office were best food ever! best chicken, how did they make it taste so good!!!! they also made sure covid safe precautions were in place for all prep steps and made the food right in front of me so that i could provide the food untouched to everyone at the office. I have been very skeptical of this place since every time I pass the building, it seems to be a new restaurant. After I saw that Crown Fried Chicken has been there for a few months, I decided to give it a try with my sister. We ordered a 15 chicken piece with a side of fries and rolls. After about 20 minutes of waiting, the food came out piping hot and we headed to the car to head home. Once we got to the car, we noticed that our rolls were missing, so we went back in to tell them that we ordered them but they weren't in the to go bag. Even tho we showed them our receipt, they were really hesitant but ended up giving us the rolls anyways. Once we got home, we opened everything up and dove in. The fries were amazing!! Super crispy and had a really great seasoning. The ketchup packets that we grabbed from the place tasted really weird so I suggest using your own from your house. The chicken was really great too. Had a super crisp coating on the skin and had a great seasoning too. Will have to try some other things on the menu the next time I stop by ! read more

Phone order experience: Received flyer in mail. Sitting at home and need take out because I have a concussion. Flyer says "You Ring - We Bring!". I call to order the 15.99 Pizza, 6 piece, 2 liter and 2 large fries. Man on phone denies deal exists, tries to sell us on 10 piece for same price, says "Ok bye!" And hangs up while I am discussing with partner. We call again to say we would like the deal, a pizza, and an extra fry. Keeps trying to get me off the phone and then says 'pick up 10 minutes Forest Ave' and I stop him to say I would like delivery. He says "No delivery" and then hangs up again. I would probably have gone and picked it up if he said the flyer was incorrect. Its cheap food but thats awful customer service. read more

Fried chicken was not bad at all. This place had a strong fan base due to the halal factor. We had the fries that were very much like McDonald's fries with some seasoned salt. It was satisfying and two people ate with some left over for about 12 bucks. I would eat it again. The pizza looked pretty decent too. read more

Chicken tasted okay. Sign said "2 piece chicken box w/ Cole slaw, mash potato and roll $5.99." The roll was a joke, tiny and tasteless, no coleslaw and mashed potatoes were room temp at best. They charged me $6.99, the price of a "3 piece chicken box." I didn't complain. Guy behind the counter seemed miserable enough. A few tables were really dirty. My table was clean but very wobbly. The lamb dishes are actually very good here! 4 star for the food but service is very very slow. Their staff really need to get a 101 customer service and how their kitchen runs. Expect to wait 5-10 mins before your order is even taken if there are 3-4 more people there. They just can't seem to multi task. read more

I picked up chicken, fries and rolls after work and when I got them home realized it was the most processed chicken I have ever seen. It was chewy as were the fries. Went to Crown for the first time with my husband and a couple of friends. Food was good all around and definitely a great option to have in the neighborhood. Very extensive menu, but we all had some variation of chicken. My husband loved the breaded hot wings, and I enjoyed the chicken breast. Fries have a good seasoning that we all liked. Friends loved the milkshakes they got, and their only feedback was that the fried dough was a little hard. Definitely great value for your money and better than typical "fast" food. read more

There is a new halal food/fried chicken place on Forest Ave, Crown Fried Chicken, and it is ridiculously good. Not epicurean good, but down and dirty good. Kind of like a crack house for fried chicken junkies. Today I parked in front, and watched as middle-aged men with sad faces went in and out, hunched shoulders to ward off the cold rain, carrying their precious red and white chicken boxes back to their cars, like something from Burroughs. Somewhere wives/girlfriends/doctors are being told tales of salad bar lunches, while secretly greasy hands are dismembering crispy chicken parts in the front seats of idling automobiles. Addiction is a brutal thing indeed, but the world is better for the million acts of rebellion that are committed every day by brave souls like these. read more

Completely addictive fried chicken and so fair for the cost. Bargain prices and huge portions, the spicy options are truly unique (not classic spicy fried chicken but something more exotic and fragrant.) So many items on the menu it is perhaps overwhelming. The staff is always playing wildly deep, obscure music as well (many times I have had to write down what they were playing from the display because it struck me as so obscure and brilliant.) read more

Overall the food is excellent the staff are very nice , I became a regular here as of this year however this is when my weekly visits took a dark turn . One day i was hungry , so i visited and placed a order mid day it was the kind employee with the white beard , he tells me you should come back later , we are making something special at 8 pm . So i came back at the given time and the man was not there i decided to order fries to see what the staff would say , and to my surprise he asked me if I was the "8 o'clock " i replied yes the owner told me to come here at this time , so he brings over chicken wings and says "special just for you". He then proceeded to give me my money back and said this was free dont worry . However everyone customer around me had a look of confusion as to why i was the only one with free food . At this time i assumed since i was a regular, he was just showing his appreciation. The next time two times i come in , the man would walk out of the restaurant asking me to come back later again , the next time i come in he runs out again and gives me a ice cream for free and he says to me " can i have your number " so i give it to him because i was scared i didnt know what to do at that moment and he proceeded to say "why did you not come back last night " i said i was busy but it was a blatant lie . He said when are you free again , i told him when and he started to text me in the afternoon this is how i knew this man is definitely a pedophile . Parents beware !! Take caution on letting your children go alone there ! If you wish to go i recommend going with your family or just being an adult. I gave this place 4 stars when 3 or 3.5 would have been closer to the truth but I didn't need a bank loan to eat a simple meal. I grew up in Portland (now live in Seattle) when the city was chockfull of good restaurants with family friendly prices but now that Portland is a "foodie" town with 15 buck salads it might come as a shock to find tasty chicken breasts for $2. CFC is the quintessential hood fried chicken chain, so when I moved to Maine I was shocked to see there was one up here, especially in a pretty good neighborhood. The food is nothing to rave about, but that's what you get for the price. Haven't had anything besides fried chicken at this one, but it tasted decent and was cheap. I would give this place a 3 and 1/2 star rating. I got take out from here for the first time today. It is a Sunday afternoon, not very busy in the restaurant, a few customers. Was able to go right up and order my meals. I ordered the fried chicken (since that is what the sign indicated was their specialty), and an order of buffalo chicken wings with a side of fries. Everything was cooked to order. When I got to eat the chicken it was great, crunchy, well seasoned, a little salty but still very good. The fries were crispy, not limp, but heavy on the salt which is not really a complaint. The buffalo wings were really spicy, which I like, but if you are like me and want your wings to be fried crispy before being doused with buffalo sauce you may be disappointed. The wings were very good though. They don't come with blue cheese or ranch dipping sauces to cut through the heat. I should have checked on that before leaving so that's my bad. Over all I would come here again. Staff was pleasant as well, just in case you were wondering since other reviews said otherwise. read more

The grungy atmosphere and cracked toilet should have warned me. When the owner said: "I don't know what fountain drinks work. I don't maintain that machine," I should have known. When I was told they didn't make several of the items on the menu, and my wife's order was the opposite of what she said, I should have taken control of the situation and walked. Instead, I ordered what turned out to be the greasiest little bits of meat from some unknown animal, piles of barely divided iceberg lettuce and mini carrots straight from Shop n' Save, and the smallest lower semi-circle of a former piece of pita, all shoved at me by the most surly and uncommunicative of OWNERS of a restaurant I've ever encountered. We tried to eat it but ended up shoving it into a bag and abandoning all hope. $26 that would have been better spent buying just about anything else. Oh, did I mention my wife's three pieces of chicken must have been under a heat lamp for six hours? Or the flies? "No, we don't make that anymore. Just these others."
