My mother convinced me to overcome my distrust of dealerships to check out the only authorized Kia dealer within 25 miles. Tracy was wonderful in showing me a variety of Kia Souls, and it is a shame that the situation played out as it did. She showed me a well priced 2025 Kia Soul EX that had "never been owned" despite the certified pre-owned sticker on the back, and I was ready to take the next steps. This is when my mother noticed a massive golf ball sized hole in the front bumper, and Tracy left to grab her manager Dexter. Dexter proceeds to stick his finger in the hole, and roughly say "yeah that's damaged, we have vendors who come around and spray, we will fix it". He continued rewording this response in return to all questions related to the logistics of how it happened to a car that was never owned or about buying a car that has been damaged on the lot. I think a good review should remain unbiased, so I will take accountability and admit that my ability to regulate my demeanor was weakening right about here. I think it's well understood that most $20,000+ purchases are stressful, and I was slowly losing confidence and patience for this whole process. I never raised my voice, but my tone matched my mood and I closed my body language. To bring the story to a close, Dexter's last answer to our questions were that he was unsure as to what we were "truly asking for", and I tried whispering to my mother that I was uncomfortable and would like to leave. This is when I get yelled at and scolded by Dexter. He called me rude repetitively, and accused me of cursing under my breath. The only thing I had said under my breath was a plea to get out of this situation. Honestly, even if I had cursed him under my breath, it is still inappropriate for a manager to berate a customer period. Especially when it continues even as they walk away, and said manager is continuing to yell insults half out the doorway to a young lady clearly trying to leave. I have worked retail and understand what it is like when you are dealing with a frustrated customer. However, given that experience, I find it insane that a Manager, who apparently only showed up to say the car will be fixed, could be brought to the point of yelling at a young woman over an 'attitude' or questions about a car damaged by and at his business. It adds insult to injury to find out that he is specifically the "USED Car Salesman Manager" and could not navigate questions about a USED Car! I have no interest in making any assumptions about Dexter or his character, as I try to have empathy and understand that some people have bad days. I honestly feel conflicted leaving the review, but it has ruined my night and upgraded my distrust into a fear. In conclusion, if you are interested in getting anything other than a Kia or a confrontation, you may have better luck at the Crown up the street. If you are stronger than me, and still feel comfortable buying a Kia in Saint Petersburg, ask for Tracy. She was an angel throughout the whole experience from beginning to end, and it's so unfortunate that her poor management sullied her excellent service. :( EDIT: The damage on the car in question is visible currently in its listing online. The car was recorded and in a photo shoot, and apparently no one noticed the dent in the bumper that whole time and every other interaction until we showed up... Just wow. read more
