These five stars are for Matt! I had to have my doors rekeyed a few weeks ago and the last guy was helpful and did the job, but for some reason, my door knobs stopped opening a few days later. After a week of maneuvering in and out through my garage, I finally gave up and called them back. An hour later (on a Saturday! Nice!), Matt shows up, goes above and beyond and fixes the problem. They did a great job showing me the various options that would replace the antique door handle and lock that broke. Once ordered and received, I had them install it. It looks and works great! I really think Yelp should provide a negative stars selection for people who had bad experience with a merchant..because this Crown Locksmith does not deserve even a one star. The other day my smoke & carbon alarm broke down after seven yrs of usage, I brought it in to Crown Locksmith and showed it to the guy at the counter. He immediately pulled one out from his shelf. I paid and went home with the new one. I right away realized that it's not the right kind. Mines was a hotwired with battery as back up. One I just bought from Crown is not hotwired. I called the store and was told that they don't carry my kind. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT IS NOT RETURNABLE. What kind of business is this? Instead, I could have gone to Home Depot or Ace Hardware, but I thought I should support the neighborhood merchants. This is what I get? I will never ever shop at this store... read more

I talked with Joe and Ken at their store about what I needed and then scheduled an appointment to meet at the house. I've been going here for 20 years. I love the people that work here they're always helpful and nice to deal with. That said, they're now closed on the weekends and even worse, they charged me over $10 for a roll of blue painters tape! Not even the top of the line stuff! We are a family owned business, and we've been using Crown Lock's service for more than 10 years. Joe, Linda and the rest of staff are very professional, responsive, fast and honest. They installed intercom systems in our multi-family residential buildings, re keyed the entire buildings, adjusted fire door hinges, installed proper handles and locks, I mean... what didn't they do for us! They are amazing. I called their 24 hour number to get a locksmith to come out. After 5 messages and 2 hrs of no call back....I ended up calling someone else.

The company is run by a couple of Shmucks. They price gouge the average homeowner. I recently went in there to purchase a wireless keyless remote. Later when i went back to try to buy a replacement part, i found them trying to resell me another product. When i did some further research, I found out that the keyless remote that they sold me for $89.95 had a suggested retail price of only $43.95. The $43.95 was the manufacturer suggested retail price. They had the audacity to charge twice the manufacturer suggested retail price and then they do not stand behind their product. I went to a local home depot and asked for the parts and the clerk over there pointed me to the lock company's website and told me to call them up directly. End result, the lock company sent me the replacement part for free and even pay for the postage after i explained the situation to them. Price gouging 10-15% maybe a stretching it a bit, but by over 100%, come on. People, stay away from crooks like these guys. As for service, their service sucks too. It is time for crooks like this guy to realize that without customer/consumers, they have no business. Without a business, they are just going to end up in the soup line where they belong. So, everyone, watch out for these clowns. read more

I needed to have a key made for my roof racks and was quoted at various other places for upwards of $60 and that was with only the possibility of them being able to do it. This hardware store is around the corner from me and I went in to see what they had to say. They said it would only be $18.50 and they would be happy to do that for me. Patrick in particular went far and above what he had to, in order to give us the best possible customer service. He ended up having to special order my certain kind of key, made sure to let me know when the delivery came in and made a few different possibilities for the key. When it came time to try it out, he even came out of the store and helped take off the roof racks himself! Absolutely amazing customer service from Patrick!! My boyfriend and I will be sure to continue coming back for anything we may need, and to recommend Crown Hardware to others in the area! read more

Crown was recommended to me by another Victorian Alliance member as a firm that could repair old mortise locks. I called them to repair my front door lock, inside which a couple of springs (flat pieces of spring steel) had broken. Joe had the smarts and the parts to get the job done. I came here looking for a lightbulb for my grandma after looking at safeway. The store is a bit small and has a ma and pa feel to it, nothing corporate. I came in hoping to find the lightbulb and and got help almost immediately. They were also unsure of what a 'type J' lightbulb was, but they did help me pick out the right one as well as hints to installing it. To all the 1- and 2-star reviewers. Get off your lazy arses, unscrew the lock out of your door, and take it to the shop, and then it's only $15 to rekey or fix. But... if you have a highly trained locksmith drive all the way to your selfish house, find parking, and then proceed to fix your lock, of course you are going to pay $90 or more. In fact, the one complainer below should be happy that all that was needed on your lock was some WD-40. AT least they didn't try and rip you off buy up-selling you. And to highlight your ignorance more, I doubt they even used WD-40 in the first place, as they steered me away from that product. They suggested cheap Triflow to lube locks. As for me, I brought my Schlage deadbolt in, and not only did they rekey my deadbolt, but they actually made two keys for my house that worked better than the old, worn down house key that I brought in. All this, a re-key and better house keys for $15! What a deal! 5 Stars for sure. Ignore the lazy bashers below, these folks are legit. read more

This is a great neighborhood tool/hardware store. You really don't find many of these nowadays thanks to the big box stores that sells lots of imported junk. From the outside, it looks like a tiny store, but go inside and you'll find it is super huge...kind of like a TARDIS?? I found lots of wonderful items that look like NOS (new old stock) and made in the USA. If you ever need some little hardware part, come here first, support a local small business and you won't be disappointed. The people who work here are super friendly and knowledgeable! When I asked for a "hasp", they knew exactly what I meant! Good luck finding someone at the big box store who would know what means. read more

We didn't have a key to a door in an apt building and had them go out to change the lock which was fine. I was not able to meet them on time so they picked the front door lock to the building(which I didn't know they were going to do). The front door to the building was fine until they picked the lock! After that the front door would not lock. We told them and they went out to try and fix it, didn't get fixed, got worse!! They said it was an alignment problem and it wasn't their fault!! We got a $300 bill!! We're being charged for something they caused and couldn't fixed. I had to call someone else to fix the problem because Crown said they couldn't fix it! There was nothing wrong with the front door until they picked the lock!! We shouldn't have been charged for them trying to fix the front door!! read more

Went in to get a copy of a motorcycle key made and the guy who helped me was very helpful in explaining it was not wise to use cheap China made keys as spares for ignitions, but made the key anyways. Went outside with me and made sure that the copy worked before sending me on my way. Great service. read more

Richmond District Originals (RDO)- They even service the Pacifica/Fairmont area. Not only replaced my locks but got the door aligned so the lock was more effective. There isn't a home in the RD that these folks haven't worked on. read more

My biggest complain is showing up on-time. I made an appointment, and they gave me a time window of 1 hour: 11am - 12pm. So far, so good. Other locksmiths would give me a much longer window. However, no-one showed up at 12:15pm. I called and was connected to Jesus. He sounded as if he was not even sure that he had an appointment with me. He said that he would be there in 10 minutes and showed up in about 35 minutes. The work that Jesus did was good. I would have no problem if they would call me beforehand and explained that they were running late. Any kind of notice would suffice instead of me waiting. A little better planning, and they would get 5 stars. read more

I came in here today to get a plug for my bathtub. I didn't know that there were multiple sizes of plugs, but the salesman offered to take apart a piece from a bathtub and fit a couple plugs to match.
