The water heater replacement job was done quite well. They corrected several out of code issues that a DYI job would not have caught. My ONLY small issue was their internal communication. The estimator said they'd fix the code violation at no extra charge; the installer disagreed, and referred to the estimator as an "idiot" in my presence. Although a subsequent call between the two cleared the issue up (the original bid and repair was honored), I viewed the installer's comment as un-professional, and for just a minute, the comment had me wondering if I'd chosen my provider wisely or not. But, all's well that ends well, and I can happily say we're back in hot water. read more

I have a deck-mounted Rohl Bridge Faucet with Hand Spray at my kitchen sink. The hand spray is sputtering and I spoke with Rohl about it. They sent me a new diverter valve to replace the one that is causing the issue. I have the part. It requires two tools (a 2mm Allen key and needle-nose pliers) to swap it out. The valve is located above the deck (not under the sink) at the base of the spigot. Pop the spigot off, pluck out the valve, insert new valve, put the spigot back on. 5-10 minutes, I'd assume. Joni (Crown Plumbing owner) had one of her plumbers (Brian) return my call requesting a quote for this task / visit. Their quote: $400.00 ...Really? Here's a thought, Joni. How about just being honest as a business owner, personally return my call, and simply tell me that this valve replacement isn't a profitable enough job for your company to take on instead of insulting me with a ridiculously intolerable quote. My outside water spigot broke right where the water comes into the house, yesterday afternoon. It was on my main line into the house, so I had no water coming into the house. Even though Crown Plumbing had a backlog of jobs to complete they bent over backwards to fix this problem. Johnnie (spelling?) the owner was able to calm this very irate and scarred person down and schedule to have it fixed immediately. Darian and Ian the 2 Techs completed the job in about 2 hours. They also made sure that the water was coming into the house okay on all of my taps. I have some galvanized piping left under the house, so this also caused an issue with my toliet and my washing machine. They stayed and got both of these items working properly. Having an older home you expect unusual plumbing and electrical problems. While Roto Rooter here locally didn't go above and beyond to try and solve my problem (this was the opinion of the plumber not mine) as he stated there were cleanouts under the house that may or may not have solved my problem. Long story short after inspection the plumber determined the best course of action was to replace some of the plumbing to make it more modern and function better. Longer story continues,$1900 dollars and a week on the schedule for the work to be performed the system is working almost properly. I needed a toilet replaced (I purchased), and the faucet on my kitchen sink re-installed as it had come loose. It is unfortunate that plumbers have you over a barrel because it took him under 10 minutes to reinstall the faucet - at a cost of $160. That is $960 per hour. I understand the toilet install being $475 - something I was totally willing to pay someone to do, but the cost of the faucet seems ridiculously excessive. To rub salt in *that* wound, it isn't even centered, which my Virgo self notices every freaking time I look at it, but I don't want to pay more to get them back out. (And when I mentioned it wasn't centered, the gal asked if I wanted the tech to come out again; I said I couldn't afford it and she did *not* say it would be free, and I don't want another bill.) Very unprofessional, and costly, experience. True, the plumber showed up when he was supposed to, but that was about all I can say for him. I had several little things I needed done. On the initial call the plumber did not explain to me why one thing I wanted done didn't work the way I thought it did. I guess he thought I understood what he was saying, but as a little old lady, I did not, so I expected it to be done on the service call. I never received an estimate, at which point I would have known that he wasn't planning on doing that task, and I received nothing to sign authorizing the work. He did, however, give me a verbal estimate and I said okay and I wrote a check for the service fee, which was supposed to be deducted from the service call when the work was done. When he showed up for the service call he informed me that the cost was going to be double what he had verbally quoted me. My heart sunk but I didn't have a choice unless I wanted my toilet to keep running for the next hundred years. It was a tempting thought, but I try to be as environmentally responsible as possible so it wasn't really an option for me. He finished the first two of the four jobs I needed done and asked for payment. I said he hadn't done half of the work I had requested. He looked at his tablet and said "oh yeah, I forgot that part," but he didn't seem to know what else I talking about. So I took him out to the outside faucet. It was then that he explained to me why he couldn't do what I wanted, at least not right now, and not for the price he quoted me on the initial call. He said to me "what do you want for $300?" I was shocked. Then he said something like "so you don't want to pay?" Where did that come from? I didn't say anything that sounded like talking about money, I just really wanted that last task done. Long story short, he did that final little task he had listed on the work order (on his tablet, and which I had never received a copy of) which took him all of five minutes, and I wrote him another check for the work. The total cost was double + $50 of the original verbal quote he gave me. About half an hour after he left I tried turning on the water. He had left without turning on the water at the main valve under the house! True, I was disappointed about not getting the last little task done, and it really hurt to have to pay over double what I was expecting, but the worst was being left very unsettled by the confrontational attitude of the plumber. I was upset all day by that. Very bad experience, and expensive - I will never use them again. read more

I called Crown plumbing with 3 issues--ice maker quit working, kitchen faucet and shower needs work. I was told that a plumber would arrive on Monday between 10 and 12. He arrived at 9:00, I had just gotten out of the shower. He told me he doesn't work on ice makers. (If I had known that I would have called someone else. ) he looked at the kitchen faucet and said we needed a new one. He looked at the shower and said we needed a new one. I asked a friend to stop by and give me a 2nd opinion. He fixed the shower and told me all the kitchen faucet needed was a "washer". I ordered it on-line. I contacted several plumbers for a badly leaking tub faucet, but had difficulty getting one that could come over quickly (most were booked out 2 to 6 weeks!!). The faucet was streaming so much that I lost all the hot water. Our house is old and there's no shutoff behind the tub--only the main one out on the parking strip, so closing that meant we would have no water in our house at all. For two days, the faucet was streaming continuously. Crown Plumbing was the only one who not only responded immediately, they came out the next day. I asked for specifics & was told plumber would be here bet 4-6. (after multiple texts). "I need a guarantee." Alissa promised I'd have a plumber between 5-6. Nobody called; nobody arrived. I have called them 10 times. Nobody replied. I left messages explaining that I had stayed home all day to accommodate our agreement. We've done business with them for several years. The quality of work has been fine. But the other things... Most recently we had a toilet installed. The work was done well. The issue I have is they were scheduled for 10am. They showed up at 8am with no advance notice. That 1 thing, I could roll with. But a couple of years back we had all of our galvanized plumbing under the house replaced. Also the connection to the meter, all new. Actually we started with the hot water flow in the kitchen was weak. And we expanded from there. That work was completed and all seemed fine. Then I went to the garage and found the water to the garage has been cut. There was no discussion, no anything. I called them back out and asked them to hook it back up. They wanted $1200. During that project we also had the height of the shower head lowered. Turned out they didn't lower it enough. And they needed to cut some access holes in the wall to do the work. Could they repair the wall to finish the job? Nope. Did they end up fixing the original water flow in the kitchen issue. Not that, either. So I believe they do good work. Just nail down what the complete job is before you get them start. As for me, never again. read more

My kitchen sink decided to stop draining yesterday. I called Crown because I have used them before and they got me an appointment the next day between 12 and 2pm. All good and well. Literally five minutes later my wife comes in and tells me that the bathroom sink has been draining slow for two months and now its not draining at all. Not enough forehead or hands at this point. Called Crown back and told them to add the bathroom sink being plugged to our order and they said no problem. This morning, a good two hours sooner than I expected them the plumber showed up. He gave me an estimate for the work and got busy. About an hour later he was done, both sinks were working again and Crown has another happy customer.
