I don't often write reviews, but feel compelled to for Ti and the crew at Sutherland (John and Sean were at my job also). The bottom line is I am extremely satisfied and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Here are the highlights, covering the things that I look for in a review: Am I happy with the service I received? Absolutely. I had to replace my main water line underneath my driveway and they completed it in a very professional and minimally invasive manner. They went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied with the job, and I was impressed with the efficiency they worked. Are they easy to work with? Yes, they are incredibly easy to work with. Ti is prompt to respond to inquiries, fast to turn a quote around, is great at managing his schedule and getting to your job as fast as possible. He makes commitments, and he meets them. How are their prices? For my job, their prices were very fair. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. My job involved some concrete work that other companies weren't going to be able to manage in a satisfactory manner. Once the entire cost of the job was factored in, I feel that I received a good value for the money. Would I call them again? Definitely, and I will call them first! When I was talking with them, I never felt any pressure to do anything. They simply advised me of what my plumbing issues were, options to address them, how they would go about doing it, and encouraged me to get several quotes (which I did, and I encourage you to as well for substantial jobs). They are honest and believe in best practices, which can give you substantial peace of mind in the work that they do and the money you are spending. They also work both smart AND hard, delivering truly great results. They really treated my house as if it were one of their own, and they are true to their word. If you have a plumbing issue give them a call. You will be glad you did! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now here is my full story. I came home from vacation to a note from the utility company informing me I probably had a leak. After looking around my house quickly and (unfortunately) confirming that there were no obvious leaks in my faucets, toilets, or sprinkler system, I hopped onto Yelp, found some plumbers, and started putting some feelers out. Ti was the fastest to respond, and came by to help me figure out what was going on and what my options were. Since this was my first major contracting job, I wanted to call around and get a lot of other opinions. Ultimately I went with Sutherland Plumbing, but I wasted a lot of time dealing with other companies. Some made great promises verbally, but when it came time to get the details in writing they left me high and dry (literally, my water was off!). Ti was fast to arrive, fast to assess the situation, fast to turn a quote around, and when I was finally ready to schedule the service he was able to do so quickly. There was no need to talk to a secretary, who would have to call several other people and get back to me 24 hours later. He coordinated a large amount of work, including the excavators and patching the concrete. He listened to my concerns about the appearance of my driveway after the job was complete and pressure washed that section to help the new concrete match. The job was done in a timely manner, finishing the same day as I expected. His crew was flexible as we made some real-time decisions based on some of the plumbing issues we discovered in my house. The whole crew takes great pride in their work, and it is a wonderful sign when the city inspector shows up and knows your plumbers by name and greats them with a smile. These guys know their stuff and have a great reputation, and that is true outside of Yelp too. They take great pride in their work, and didn't want to leave until they were satisfied that my whole project was in good order. Another example of this was when they were patching the small concrete holes that had to be made, about 8 inches in diameter. Ti drilled 4 bolts into the existing concrete sidewall for each hole before filling them with the new material, ensuring these new concrete circles wouldn't sink and drop through in a year or two. I wouldn't have known to look for this, and it was probably overkill for this application, but I have absolute confidence that I could park a heavy trailer on these patches and never have an issue. In addition to ensuring it was done structurally correct, great care was also taken to have the texture match my existing surface. Basically, I felt they treated my house and project with the respect they would give to their own residence and projects. They also treated me with respect and were transparent with their recommendations and pricing. What more can you ask for? read more

I've referenced Yelp for quite some time, but never been compelled to write a review - until now. Bought my first house at the beginning of the year and from the home inspection I knew a few items needed attention. The plumbing work came up to the top of the list due to my main water shutoff valve needing to be replaced before other work could occur. Enter Sutherland Plumbing. I had a few items on my punch list (as is common when you move into a new-to-you house). After scheduling fairly quickly, Ti was punctual and listened as we did a walkthrough the house and I rattled off my issues list. I could tell that Ti was looking at my house as he would his own when he made recommendations. The outcome was more work than I initially was expecting (replacing all the original builder-grade toilets and bathroom sinks wasn't something I had planned on) but I could understand where he was coming from and why, as he took the time to explain his reasoning. There had obviously already been a major leak at one of the faucets, and the toilets hadn't aged well. I didn't feel any pressure to move forward with the additional work. I decided to heed Ti's advice as I could either keep doing temporary fixes and deal with ongoing leaks/issues, or just make the solid investment up front and enjoy the benefits for many years to come. I should share I plan to be in this house for the next 15+ years, so my decisions also come from that perspective. I live in an HOA, and there was yet another upstream repair that needed to be made before work on my unit could happen. All in all it took over 2 months to get everything scheduled and coordinated due to logistics on the HOA's end. During that time Ti and his dispatcher checked-in which I really appreciated. The first date when all the work was scheduled the other company had to cancel very last minute due to a staffing issue. Ti did what he could to prep things since he was already on-site and took it in stride, and coordinated with the other company along with the HOA to reschedule the work. The bulk of the work is finally complete, and I couldn't be happier with it. It was a major investment in the house, for sure - but will pay dividends down the line in peace of mind/ease of use/improved quality. Ti and his team also volunteered to do a couple extra pieces of work (installed shower heads and used plywood on the main shutoff to save me additional work there). There was one hiccup (the faucets installed were a different finish than we had discussed, a mix up on the supplier's end) but it was very quickly made right and I have no complaints. If you're looking for the cheapest/quickest or a stop-gap fix for your plumbing problem, Sutherland Plumbing may not be the company for you. If you want a company to give excellent customer service, solid clear advice and communication, long-term solutions, and superior workmanship they stand behind - look no further. My new main shutoff valve is seriously a piece of art, and I smile every time I use my bathroom and shower. What more could I ask for? Highly recommended. read more

Sutherland Plumbing deserves more than five stars. After receiving my last water bill from Sunrise Water it was apparent that I had a leak in my water system. After looking the situation over I found that I had a major leak in my main water service line between the water meter and my home. I called two different plumbing companies in the local area, one of them three time in three days and never received a call back. The second one called back but could not make an appointment with me for 7 days. I was telling my son about the problem I was having getting a plumber to call me back. My son said that he new of a plumbing company, Sutherland Plumbing, that he had called and they were back to him on the phone in minutes. I placed a call to Sutherland Plumbing and got their answering machine so I left a message and sure enough I received a call from Ti Sutherland within 10 minutes. We discussed the problem and he asked if I could text him some pictures of the layout of the yard so that he could send me a bid to replace the water line. I requested that he replace the water line because it had broken two previous times and I was tired of the problem. Ti sent me a bid the next day and we then set up a time for the repair. At the same time I found that my neighbor had the same problem and needed to have her water line replaced. The morning of the appointment I received a call from Ti about 7:30am and his team was on the job by 8:00am sharp. No playing around, these guys are professionals. They set up their vaccume digging machine and their underground boring machine and by noon had a new water line run to the crawl space under the house. This was no easy job as they had to run about 100 feet of water line and then make all the connections. We were up an running with water in no time. The neat part was they never had to dig up the yard. Just enough digging to find the utilities, electric, gas, tv cable, etc. I was really impressed when I saw Ti and his employees put on booties to come in the house. They also covered everything with throw carpets and tarps so as not to track any mud into the house or even on the concrete. Yes, they even covered the concrete walkways so as not to track mud on them. The same day they also did a like job at my neighbors home. We were very impressed with their professionalism. If you were to look at the yard you would not be able to tell that they had even disturbed the grounds. Everything looked as if they had not even been here. I will never call another plumbing company. Sutherland Plumbing is the only one I will ever call. They could teach the other guys how a business should be run. A few days before Christmas on a Saturday morning I noticed that my 15 year old water heater stopped working and started flooding my garage. I found Sutherland Plumbing on Yelp with great reviews. A call center handles the calls for Ti. They were able to get in touch with Ti with my urgency and Ti called me back within an hour. Ti spent a lot of time on the phone with me explaining what might be going on. He patiently educated me on various types of water heaters, their pros and cons, which helped me to choose the right product and service for my house. He gave me a quote for the work with specific details on the products and parts he was going to use and the reason behind those choices. Ti also advised me to shop around before making my decision. This discussion empowered me with the knowledge to ask questions and assess the potential quality of work/fix from other plumbers. I called a few other plumbers in the area - some of them were referrals from friends and others from Yelp. After weighing in my options in terms of scheduling and cost and quality, I finally scheduled a day and time for Ti's team to come and complete the work later in the week. I really wanted the water heater replaced before Christmas and Ti's schedule was booked for the entire week - no surprises there given his quality of work and customer service. Luckily someone canceled and Ti was available to fix this earlier in the week so I can have a new water heater the day before Christmas. Ti and Sean showed up at my house at the scheduled time and completed the job in about an hour. When I asked Ti if he was done, his response was "I am not done until you are 100% satisfied and you say that I am done." Great customer service! He also shared more information with me on the particular unit, warranties and maintenance. With Ti, you get what you pay for and more! Ti is an expert in this area and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge with customers. I am beyond impressed with Ti and his side kick intern Sean. They hands down give you 110% of their time, advice, incredible knowledge, friendly and comfortable company I might add. This will forever be the only plumbers phone number I save. They really, really give superior service not to just your plumbing needs but to you as well. 5 stars just isnt enough. Ti likes Sprite and Sean prefers Coke, they were working in scorching heat. They make you feel very comfortable as a woman at home alone and at ease, I feel like I just made two new friends. Both were fun to have in my home and did an outstanding job on my current plumbing needs. I live in an older home that was completely remodeled two years ago and they did not update plumbing very well. But Ti didnt give up on finding solutions, he kept investigating and fixed my pipes add new fixtures outside. I have another project he will be coming back for and I look forward to writing the check and having him around. They are both just sweet as pie. His pricing was shocking (in a good way) vs the amount of work they did. It was happy to write that check! It was easily affordable for me. I would have them over for dinner with their great sense of humor yet professionalism. Ti even advised me on a wood working project I am currently doing. Ti is definitly a top notch plumber. I am so thankful to have found Sutherland Plumbing! From the first email and phone call with Ti (the owner) to the follow-up with John (after the work was performed), I was impressed and thrilled to have such an excellent plumber in our home to fix our clogged shower drain, which has been a problem for several years. The plumber, John B., came to our home and was very professional, courteous and spent time asking me several questions about the problem before he began any work. Then he explained to me what he believed would be the best solution to fix the problem in our drain. He asked if he had my blessing before he began. When he was finished, he spent time with me showing me what he had done and he gave detailed answers to all of my questions--which I thought was wonderful! I really appreciated John's ability to explain everything so well and take the time to do so. Then a few days later John followed up with a phone call to check on the drain status--even though everything was working fine when he left. It's been a month since John fixed our shower drain and everything is still working great! I read through all of the reviews on yelp before I contacted Sutherland Plumbing and after having done business with them myself, I can tell you for certain that their excellent reviews on yelp are truly spot on. They are an awesome company and they have a gift for doing business above and beyond on every level, from customer service to the actual work performance. When our kitchen sink backed up and flooded our disposal, an Angie's List search had nothing but great reviews for Sutherland Plumbing. Courtney worked us into their busy schedule and Sean and Cameron came riding to our rescue! They fixed the issue and diagnosed a slow main drain that would eventually need to be replaced. They explained how to maintain it to maximize time before a bigger repair and Ti made sure we were satisfied. The next year an inspection discovered a leak under our bathroom, so we called Ti to get a comprehensive bid for total repiping. This was a huge job that could make a home owner nervous and had to be scheduled around another contractor's work on our foundation. Ti's careful attention to detail, genuine consideration of our concerns and thorough answers to all our questions assured us why Sutherland has earned all those other great reviews. He knows what he is doing and his team really delivers! Sean, Cameron, Nathan and Ti worked four long days for us in and crawling under our house with pleasant attitudes and patient explanations of what to expect each day. They each have skills that contribute to being a great team and they support each other to get the best results for you. Not only did they complete everything on time and within budget, we now understand how things work, are not longer worried about old pipes springing leaks and that hot shower has never felt better! Sutherland Plumbing is wonderful, especially Ti Sutherland himself! A few months ago, we had a sudden & unusual water leak from our water heater (which Sutherland had installed a few years ago). Despite it being the weekend, Ti reached out to me by both text & phone. I described the situation & sent pictures of the problem & he was able to reassure me that the water heater wouldn't explode over the weekend. (My biggest fear.) He then came out first thing Monday to confirm his phone diagnosis & repair the problem. All this for a very reasonable rate too that was partially covered under his original install warranty! Cut forward to yesterday & I once again had a water leak in the garage by the water heater. This one didn't appear urgent, so I called to leave a message on the company machine thinking they would get it Monday morning. To my surprise, not only did Sutherland Plumbing have an answering service after hours, but Ti himself phoned me within the hour to check in on our problem & ensure it wasn't serious. After reviewing the issues & exchanging photos, Ti let me know that he expected the issue was actually a problem with our AC unit, not the water heater. (Ti said it's a common issue he trains his techs to watch out for during summer to prevent bogus charges for his clients. Imagine that!) He also gave me a few options to test & confirm this which we did. No charge for all the help & advice when a less reputable firm would have charged a for a bogus visit. Update February 2017: My daughter still regularly clogs the new toilet. Obviously there is something wrong with her digestion. BUT this new, crazy-expensive toilet is difficult to plunge. The bowl is so shallow that water splashes EVERYWHERE. It's so frustrating to have to clean the entire toilet as well as the floor and surrounding walls from splashed feces water every week or two. I am disappointed in this toilet design. Here's my review from December 2016 I think: Last time I called Sutherland it was for several problems, and Sean was great in talking me through his assessments and recommendations. This time, the toilet (that has clogged regularly since we moved in) was leaking from the base, next to the floor. Sean came and took a look and recommended that we replace the toilet rather than trying to fix it. So that's what we did. I now have a shiny new toilet with a powerful flush and larger glazed flushing path AND a 36 month warranty. Once again, Sean (and his coworker, Cameron) were pleasant to have in the house and super clean and careful with our space. They arrived right on time, gave me time and space to privately call my spouse to discuss the cost, and got the toilet switched out quickly. They were done (cleaned and gone) in under two hours. Sean made sure I checked in on Yelp to get a $25 discount, too. I'd also like to shout out appreciation to the person who handles scheduling. That person is also a gem. The base of our kitchen faucet started leaking water when turned off so we needed a fix. After requesting an appointment from Sutherland for a repair, I communicated via email with their dispatch to send a photo so they would be able to source any parts ahead of time. That person said "I will have our senior plumber look at them and see what similar faucets we can provide," so I knew they were probably going to convince me to replace instead of repair. Lo and behold I ended up receiving a call from Ti Sutherland stating exactly that, and he sent me a photo of the replacement he recommended (since my husband and I are not DIY'ers and didn't have time to comparison shop we just decided to go ahead and agree since the company's Yelp reviews are so good and it was probably time to update the faucet anyway). In conjuction, I received an email with a quote for the work but didn't look closely that the document incorrectly specified the finish of the faucet that I agreed to (from the photo that was sent to me). Luckily, I caught the mistake before the wrong faucet was installed by Sean who was very nice about the whole thing. Sean did not have the correct faucet with him but substituted a different one with the finish I wanted. It all worked out in the end and I thought Sean did excellent work. Also, he was great about keeping in contact with me regarding his arrival time and let me know I could do a Yelp Check-In to receive a discount. I highly recommend Sean and recommend the company overall. Even though they seem higher-end price-wise, I believe you get what you pay for. read more

This is the first review I've ever written and this company deserves it! John and his crew were extremely professional and checked everything in the house to determine what might have caused our high water bills. They came back a few days later to replace the upstairs and downstairs "contractor special" toilets; a lowboy, under the stairs, water heater (including a drip pan and hose to the crawl space in case of an overflow leak); and the outdoor hose faucet with a non-freeze unit. John explained everything thoroughly, and they worked quickly, gave us discounts, used only high grade materials, covered their work shoes in the house, and left everything spotless!!! What more could you ask for? You couldn't even tell they had been here. And, without mentioning it, John replaced one of the shower heads and even put in a light source and switch in the crawl space so that we no longer have to go down there like miners with our flashlight and lantern. It's more than initially wanted to spend, but when you consider that we now have low flush 1-piece Toto toilets; a secured and potentially flood proof Bradford-White water heater; crawl space lighting; and a non-frost outdoor water outlet that will be trouble proof for many years to come, it was worth it. If you want to use lesser quality/lower price products, they might not be the company for you. But, if you want long term, solid products put in with excellent workmanship, than these are the ones to call. The Kents read more

I contacted Sutherland Plumbing via their website on Sunday because I'd noticed water draining continuously from our yard into the storm gutter. Ti sent me a text that evening and we arranged for a visit on Monday afternoon. He diagnosed the problem as a leak in the water line from the street to the house and recommended replacement given the age and quality of the line. He said he would send a quote that evening (which he did...very detailed description of the work and pricing) and that they could schedule the work for Thursday. I approved the quote electronically, their scheduler confirmed and Ti was there with his team as planned at 8 AM on Thursday. This is a long review, but I wanted to provide an overall sense of the exceptional quality of this company. Communication was quick and easy at every step. Quotes were detailed and options clearly spelled out so there were no surprises. Pricing was very reasonable given the quality of the work...including a couple of extras at no charge. Landscaping in the area of the job looked as good, probably better, than it did before they arrived. The work looks professional at the curb and in the garage and there were no issues with permitting or the city plumbing inspector. We also had our kitchen faucet replaced while the team was here...same level of quality and attention to detail whether the job is large or small! Sent email on a Sunday to request an appt. Got an email back from Ti that day even though they were closed. He emailed back 6 days before the appt to ask to push it a week out and offered to waive the $149 fee. (shows great respect for my time and money). Day of: called 90 mins before appt to say he was ahead of schedule and asked if I was free sooner. Showed up, let me walk him through the issue (a clogged kitchen/laundry drain that I had augered out twice before in the last 18 months by another company). I thought we'd have to replace pipes. Ti explained that he'd like to try to auger again, a conservative and least costly step, because he thought the previous job should have lasted longer. (I really liked that he didn't "bad mouth" the other company's work - I'm not a fan of that approach. He did explain what he thought may have happened.) He was easy to trust and was able to explain in layman's terms. He was done with the work in maybe 30 mins (the other times it took an hour or more). He had good news, and felt confident pipes didn't need replacing. (Again, explained why.) They also have an organic enzyme pipe cleaner (we have used a lot of Drano) that will help treat build up along the way. (He even used a product before he left to help cut down on the unfortunate smell that the clogged drain had created.) Highly recommend these guys for their expertise and customer service. We had a toilet that clogged up and thankfully there are 2other bathrooms in the house. I was not in town and told my college aged son to just wait for a day until I was back and I'd show him how to get it fixed. He tried a plunger and that was not working. I got into town and went to Lowes and bought a "better plunger"-- the kind that doesn't collapse and invert. That did not get the job done. So we tried a snake... Also did not work. I was leaving town again in another day so I began looking for a trustworthy company to come to the house when I was gone. We are new to Oregon and have no vendors that we trust yet. So I hit YELP and Sutherland was THE obvious best choice. Ya, I know any old roto rooter company could have unclogged it but I own a biz and look for people to give my money to who are the most worthy. I called the main # and of course the message said they were tied up with work for like 7 days but you could text with your issue and I did. Then I waited for a bit to hopefully get a reply before calling another. Sure enough Ty texted back and said for a clog he could fit us in the next day. I left town so didn't personally meet Ty but he called me when the boys didn't answer the door (teenagers) and I got him in the house. We had been dealing with a slowly draining tub for as long as I could take it. My husband had tried everything, chemical and mechanical to try to open it up with no luck. A call to Sutherland Plumbing got us a call back from Ti and a scheduled visit very quickly, especially considering I told them it was not an emergent issue. They then called to say they could come a day early if it was convenient for me. Yippee. John and Apprentice Sean showed up as scheduled and went right to work. The plumbing in this old house was quite a challenge but they stuck to it and tried every trick in the book. They finally (with my permission of course) ended up going a non-conventional route through the wall. By doing so they saved us over $2000 that it would have cost to re-plumb the drains which had the tub and shower joining the main drain at the same level, opposite one another! This arrangement caused a snake down the tub to go straight across and up into the shower and vice versa. I am so please John stuck with this and did not just give in and leave us with the estimate for re-plumbing. He stayed "on-the-job" until he had an answer for us that we could afford. After the drain was cleared the tub and shower were cleaned along with all debris from the wallboard work. I am very pleased with the work, the professionalism, and the courtesy of everyone I dealt with at Sutherland Plumbing. read more

Sutherland Plumbing completely came to my rescue last week! After a few rough days and dealing with a family medical emergency, the last thing I needed was to walk into my laundry room to find toilet water (basically poop) coming up from the drain. It had covered the entire laundry room floor and was still continuing to come up. I went running outside in a panic thinking it had something to do with the work my neighbors were having done. They had a few Sutherland Plumbing trucks outside and I assumed it had to do with their issue. The gentlemen assured me that it had nothing to do with what they were working on BUT, offered to come over and take a look. They could tell I was getting emotional (yep, I totally started crying) and they made a phone call to another company they refer customers to. After learning that they couldn't make it out until the next day, these guys decided to help me out. They were able to fix my problem and gave me tips to prevent it from happening again. I'm incredibly grateful for the kindness Sutherland Plumbing showed me. They take pride in their work and make their costumers feel important. I became a blubbering mess when they handed over the reciept. It went over everything that was done and at the bottom it said "Right place @ Right time." Thank you Ti, John, and Cameron!
