Just had a very tasty meal at Crumb in Bordentown. It was our first time going. They have a partnership with Gouldbergers and you can get their menu available there also. I went with the Create your Own burger with lettuce, cherry peppers, bacon, ketchup, raw onion and cooper sharp cheese. Also got a side order of onion rings. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday and my husband and I ordered 2 of their special hotdogs and waffle fries to share. The place had a steady flow of take out going on and a few tables occupied. Order placed, we sat down to a dirty table and noticed it wasn't any better at the next table. It took a full 20 minutes to get our simple order. Went to crumb for lunch in downtown bordentown. It is small inside but upscale decor for a sandwich shop. At first glance, the prices are quite expensive. Consistently $14-18 for a sandwich. I got the goodfella which is chicken cutlet, broccoli rabe, provolone and pepper aioli. My wife got the cheesesteak. The food: the goodfella was great. A bit greasy but good flavor. I've heard good things about this place. I ordered the mini cheesesteak meal (half a cheesesteak, about 5 inches long, French fries and a soda) for $16. The sandwich was delicious and loaded with meat, cheese and fried onions. The meat to bread ratio was top tier, the steak was done very well, every bite was uniform and flavorful. I also ordered the mini cheeseburger meal with waffle fries. Also a great meal. The burger was tasty and the bun was on the hearty side but still soft. The mini meal is one beef patty for $14. I also tried the Skouf which is a chicken salad sandwich, it was ok. I highly recommend this place for an excellent cheesesteak or burger. The staff was very helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. Visited crumb for the first time today. Their other locations are in bougie towns of Medford and Haddonfield, so for them to come to little old Bordentown city really says something! They seem to be an "elevated" sandwich shop (or should I spell it "shoppe") that also sells Boylan's cane sugar sodas, La colombe coffee, and I think (don't quote me) I saw some cans of kombucha in the fridge as well. The interior is nice with several tables at which to dine or wait. There's bar seating at an expansive window that looks out onto Crosswicks Street. They also offer complimentary water with cups and lids which is a big plus. As for the food? They have gluten free bread for a $1 up-charge. The menu is chock full of clever/cutesy names inspired by 90's culture (see "nothin but a Greek thang," "the Brooklyn way," "my cousin Vinny," Et al. I opted for a "Tribbiani," whose etymology required research as I wasn't a viewer of "Friends." In short, it's a meatball sub/hero/hoagie on focaccia. I did taste nice hints of garlic, and the mozzarella was fresh. It could've used a bit more of the cheese. So far I've had half of the sandwich, and said half contained 2.5 meatballs. It was 5/5 for taste. I wish it had a bit more meat and cheese. Those are the two main components of a meatball sub after all! Value? Like most Bordentown eateries, you do pay a hefty price: $14.50 was the cost of this sandwich. My boo got the "Brooklyn way" on gluten free bread that appeared to be rye. She said it was good. In fairness, GF bread simply isn't as good as gluten bread. She says there was a "decent" amount of meat but the bread was "meh." Total came to $36, they do hit you with a credit card fee (3.5%) and do the "turn the card reader around for a 30% tip option" that we see more and more nowadays. The place was quite busy at lunch time, maybe call ahead if you don't want to wait. Service was very friendly. All in all, I think we'll return when the budget allows. We live down the street and try to support local businesses when possible. Nowhere to eat in downtown Bordentown is "cheap." If you want that, get a meatball sub (er, hoagie) from Wawa when they're $6. Hopefully there is more meat and cheese upon my return! Maybe I'll try their coffee too. read more

This place had been on my bookmark for a while and I finally got there. I also, cannot wait to go back! The smells and food were incredible! Wife got Dirty South Chicken sandwich, fried with pimento cheese and fried pickles, was sooo good and HUGE! I was lined up for the Eddie Mush the minute I saw it. If you like mushrooms it's Unreal. Four stars for the vibe and space for sure, but I'm not a fan of $15 decent sandwiches. But let's start with the pros. This is a very well thought out space. The whole front opens and allows for more seating in nice weather, with 2 communal tables plus a few two seaters inside. There is a big selection of sandwiches, more than are listed on the menu at the order counter. The sandwich I really wanted was not listed on the overhead menu, and the staff were unsure about what I was asking for. So I ordered the French Montana. This is a chicken cutlet(1) with some ham and cheddar cheese sauce on their focaccia. It was fine, I actually liked the ham more than the chicken which although nicely seasoned and breaded, was dried out. The bread was fine too, no need to rush home with a loaf though. The item I enjoyed most from here was the crumb cake. It was thinner that some recent contenders, but dense and very tasty. I'd get it again. When I thought about the cost for this very casual and to go lunch, I just could not justify it unless on vacation or trying to impress someone. I think there are better options in the area for chicken cutlets, and for sandwiches in general. Adding 3.5% to credit card orders seemed like adding insult to injury. My wife and I have come here a couple of times and we enjoyed our meals! First, there's a bunch of street parking right near the restaurant. We've never had an issue parking but we usually eat lunch at somewhat strange hours (either early around 11 AM or later like 2 PM) so that may be part of the reason why :) Service has been good both times we visited. The sandwiches are a tiny bit pricy (around $14 to $16) but they're definitely tasty! The portion sizes aren't small either so you can definitely enjoy half a sandwich for lunch and then eat the other half for lunch the next day. It's strange to me, but I think my least favorite part of the sandwich is the bread, which is weird because I feel like they bake it in house (so you would assume that it would be delicious!). It was just ok, I got the purple haze salad at the suggestion of the kind woman behind the counter. She recommend the chicken cutlet with it. The salad was not mixed together at all, so all the beets were at the bottom and the arugula on top then the chicken cutlet was just dry. The bread that came with my salad was top notch 5 stars, but the cutlet was dry and the salad was difficult to mix in such a small container. This is based on takeout, so didn't really get the full "sandwich place" experience. Not sure that matters since you can have good sandwich experience inside of a Wawa. I'm kind of blown away by the 4.5 ya'll. I mean, I know it's the suburbs, but I kinda feel like we can do better here. There are no culinary prizes for a $15 flavored focaccia. It's so bizarre to me that a sandwich place has a single type of bread. I've been to convenience stores at 2am with more variety, they just slap everything on the same floppy focaccia and sometimes they give it a turn or two on the griddle. It's the texture of someone crying on a panini. Ya'll doing okay in the back there? To be fair, the mushroom sammy was pretty good, though it was also $15 and nothing had to die for it. The meatball though...I think they mixed the cow with the salt lick because that thing was inedible. Or maybe it has something to do with the crying mentioned above - it definitely brought tears to my eyes. How is it Sfizio can do you better double the size and half the price? Bordentown didn't need another health food restaurant. It didn't need a vegan paradise. Crumb checks a lot of boxes. While it's not hoagies and cheesesteaks (Anthony's Pizza Town has the best one around here, btw) Crumb is making some of the best sandwiches in the area. This newcomer replaced the cough-and-you-missed-it goodbeet which catered to...well, I'm not sure. Crumb seems to "get it" with its heavy lean toward Italian sandwich classics with a few nods to other cuisines. The house-baked Focaccia is a great vehicle for them. The "My Cousin Vinnie" with chicken cutlet, breaded organic eggplant, vodka sauce and melted fresh mozzarella sounds heavy, but is light enough even for a hot day. "Morocco Your World" features spiced eggplant, caramelized peppers, hummus, pickled carrot, mixed greens, cucumber and olive. "King of Clubs" comes as a warm sandwich and oddly doesn't include a tomato with its roasted chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, farmhouse cheddar, shaved romaine and herb aioli. Then again, it's June and tomato isn't in season yet. The shop is clean, warm and inviting. The owner's mom works the counter and is just lovely. Sidewalk seating is a nice touch. They're even tinkering with gluten free focaccia and it's off to a great start so far. A little salt or adobo and a brushing of olive oil would elevate it. The sandwiches are on the high side, price-wise, but you get value for your (rapidly devaluing in 2022) dollar. However, the prices are on-par with other places in town. I have no problem paying for good eats and Crumb will get my business again soon. All-in-all a welcome addition to the scene here. read more

On the way to NYC and got hungry. Decided to check out this place based on the review and the pics. It didn't disappoint at all. We got the philly cheesesteak with fries and a root beer. Solid all around. Root beer was either homemade or local so it had that real organic taste to it. The philly cheesesteak was mushroom heavy and tasted like beef stroganoff in the best way. Fries were really well done. If I was carrying gold stars, I would have given this place one. The place was really clean inside, from the front door to the bathroom.. it's been awhile since I've been but I think it was tile and wood everywhere and gave a particular type of vibe. Super cute place for lunch! I ate outside when the weather was fairly nice and it was lovely. There isn't a large amount of seating outside - a few tables. Inside there's more tables, but it is a smaller place to eat. They open up the front of the restaurant in the nice weather so you are essentially eating outside, but inside, on a long table facing the street. This gives a great view when eating. The food was excellent. The bread my sandwich was served on is homemade (cook told me) and it shows! It was so good! The chicken salad was fresh and I enjoyed every bite. It's a decent sized sandwich, too. They also serve free ice water in a cup here if you're like me and don't drink anything, but water. They were friendly here and the owner came and talked with us for a short time, and so did the cook. The owner even brought me out a cup of water upon overhearing me tell the person I was with that I wanted a glass of water. This is a small business so it is great to give support to them. Just tried the king of clubs and it may have been the best sandwich I've ever had. It's a large sandwich that you can probably split between two people. Homemade delicious bread and the sandwich is full of delicious ingredients. I've had a salad from here before and it was great too. It's a dog friendly place which I love. The location is great and the atmosphere too. I didn't give it a 5 star because the prices are pretty high but worth it for the occasional splurge.
