I had Crusco's do the catering for my wedding this past July (2014) and they did an amazing job! Everything was absolutely delicious, they put a lot of effort into making an incredible menu and definitely came through because there was lots and lots of food and everyone really enjoyed it. My wife and I stopped in here for lunch recently. We walked through the door, and stood there waiting for the host/hostess. And we waited. While we waited, we looked around, and saw only two other tables occupied by customers. We also stared at three staff members, who were standing there talking. I almost thought they didn't know that we were there, but the door made so much noise when we entered, they would have heard us, even if hearing impaired. Really delicious! We were traveling, and expected to find nothing but diners in Angel Camps, and we had the very good surprise of finding this excellent Italian restaurant. First, it was open late, and that was a good point for us. Then, the people have given very good advice for which wine to taste with the food. And the food was really great. My father had salmon with a tasty sauce. I had a wonderful spinach salad with the perfect mix of nuts, gorgonzola and pears. We ended with a chocolate mousse with really a lot of cocoa, and my father had an expresso which could satisfy Italians. Thanks! read more

The good part: this is a comfortable Italian restaurant with good hours, great food, nice wine list and good service. The other option in town seems to be pizza so this was a god-send since we wanted to have a leisurely Monday night dinner with friends. The wine list was good, diverse and affordable. We ordered 2 bottles of Stevenot cab and it was wonderful for sipping and improved with food. The spinach salad with the gorgonzola and pear was very good-- I give it 3 stars to 4 stars (remember 3 stars means A-OK and that's good. I think some people are too generous with the stars and that doesn't leave much room at the top to distinguish excellence, but we digress...) I also enjoyed the misto antipasti. It was a solid 3 to 4 stars too. The only bad part is I made a huge mistake and ordered the steak (bisteca). It was good- very good in fact, but ordinary. I should have ordered the ravioli or a seafood pasta. Everyone else raved about their entrees-- and I could tell by looking their food was more creative than my ordinary steak. I will say the garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful and the vegetables were PERFECT. yummy. Five stars for veggies and mashed potato. Three stars for the steak. Now 3 stars is not bad, but I know they do better so it's a shame not to order the right thing. The Panna cotta dessert was delicious and light and nice texture. four stars! Summary: This is a great place for a small town and I recommend it. The food is great but not all the entrees are 4 or 5 stars so read the reviews carefully. The prices are good (skip expensive appetizers, side salads and wine and you can come out less than 25 bucks for dinner. ) The service is warm and friendly, the atmosphere is wonderful. What a great restaurant! Seems to be the local go to restaurant. The staff was wonderfully helpful with my brother who is in a wheelchair. The polenta was great. I had the fettuccini with lobster. The portion size was great and it had a lot of lobster with it. I read a lot of the other negative reviews about them and most of them didn't make any sense. Along with wonderful food were the wonderful family that run this Italian restaurant. From what I understand, mom cooks, sister makes the desserts, the other sister serves and the dad is the maitre d. Outstanding cream of asparagus soup, garnished with a garlicky crouton. My husband loved his Gambieri (?) Pasta dish. I finished my meal with Panna Cotta with Fruit Compote with piping hot fresh strong coffee. A soup, salad, two entrees,dessert and coffee came to $60. Super friendly lunch service in downtown Angel's Camp. The menu had a few veggie options. I had a cup of the vegetable minestrone which was REALLY good. The penne was cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. The portions were small for the price, but we had focaccia bread and salads and left feeling satisfied. Lunch for two was about $30. Excellent food. Had a rough start because we had 8 people and it was pouring down rain. The hostess said because we didn't have reservations we couldn't be seated. We explained we could be separated but were told we could not be accommodated so we made a hasting retreat back into the downpour. The OWNER actually chased us down and told us to come back and apologized for the misunderstanding. We were seated in three different tables, got excellent service and we tipped generously. We were on vacation and were very impressed with the owner, the waiters and especially the food. I had the lamb which is difficult to prepare properly in a restaurant but it was delicious! read more

We live in an area with Incredible dining and while on vacation wanted to find something that we would all enjoy. From what I understand the owners spend a portion of the year in Italy refining the menu. I was very impressed especially given that Angels Camp is such a small town. We've eaten at Crusco's many times since moving to the area. Really good Italian food, interesting specials, nice decor, and the owner and staff are great. In fact, most of the staff has been there for years, so service is just right. We had the artichoke appetizer, then a ravioli dish with feta and spinach for me and a NY strip steak for my wife, an inexpensive bottle of good zin, and a wonderful custard with berries for dessert. Had a great dinner there 11/11/11! I had the petrel sole special which was devine someone had the lamb which they loved. I would have wanted it in more on the rare side. The salmon was also good and the polenta is some of the best ever. The steak dish was just ok. I was really looking forward to eating here. However that was meet with a rude lady that refused to let my wife and I get a table. We stoped in to a half full restaurant about 6:30 PM Saturday night. 11-19-16. There were about a half a dozen empty tables I could see no one was sitting at. The lady who had shoulder length gray hair with glasses. Just looked at me didn't say anything I said we like to eat here. She looked around the restaurant I'm sure seeing the same empty tables I saw. Which I would have been happy to sit at any of them. See then says to me let me see if I have a table. Which was wierd due to the fact I could see literally 6 clean empty tables just waiting for customers. She then walks towards the back of restaurant still in my site. Walks back to me and my wife and tells us it will be at least a hour before we can get a table and that we might want to eat somewhere else. Both my wife and I looked at each other like WTF. We were staying at a B & B in Angles camp and decided to walk to town and eat here, at the recommendation of the innkeeper. We are glad we did. We didn't have reservations and were there was they opened. The hostess (we later learned that she and her husband are the owners) was so pleasant. No problem not having reservations for 5 PM, but . . . it filled up completely by 6:30 - and it was a Thursday night! Our server, we later found out was the husband of the hostess, so . . co-owner, was our server, and in reality, left much to be desired. He was not overly gracious at all - as this was our first-ever visit and we had questions about the menu items. Eating out is a treat for us and we don't make snap decisions. And . . .after one "encounter" with him towards the beginning of our visit, we even wondered if we should ask if he'd like us to leave! My husband had the salmon and veggie entrée - which was very good. And . .it was wild salmon, NOT farmed salmon. Wild is so hard to find! I had a chicken and mushroom dish (special for the day) that was very good - tender, moist chicken. We both enjoyed our entrees. The prices for the salmon dish was very reasonable. I felt my chicken entrée was high - it was more than the wild salmon! Serving sizes were very nice. As the evening went on, we actually got to meet another server - turns out it's the owners' adult daughter, who was very, very nice. The hostess (wife/owner) actually came over and visited for a time w/us. We did share our concern re:the original server (and found out then it was her husband) - she shared that he is like that and after a bit of time, he warms up and is nice. She was a total delight!!!! My husband and I took a long weekend and made our way from Yosemite to Angles Camp. When checking into the hotel we were told about this place so we thought we would give it a try...Italian is our favorite and we eat it in every town we go. Nice family owned Italian restaurant with a nice ambience. Loved the artichoke hearts with garlic and capers starters, salmon in orange sauce with wild rice quinoa, carrots and beans was a delicious entree, and their pecan topped chocolate tart with berries was mouth watering. We started with the garlic prawns then split a large spinach salad I got the appetizer size fettuccine Alfredo and my boyfriend got the penne with spicy Italian sausage. The four of us were looking for a nice place in Angel's Camp after a long day of snowshoeing and driving. It's truly an Italian restaurant with Gold Country influences in everything from the decor to the atmosphere to the food. The restaurant was very nicely decorated with both Italian and Gold Country charm and definitely would be a good "date" restaurant. We ordered two different types of steak dishes, clam w/ pasta, and the salmon dish. All the dishes were wonderful. The lime poppyseed dressing on the misto salad was truly refreshing and a must try. If one is on a budget, a good choice for protein and veggies would be the anit-pasti salad. The salmon was nicely cooked, just a tad rare which I really liked, and came with a light orange cream glaze. The two different steak dishes we had were well received and showed that in the middle of cow grazing country, the really do know how to cook a steak. The clam/spaghetti dish was super good as well, with no shortage of garlic. Service was very good as well. Our biggest regret is not saving enough room for desert. I was quite surprised to see some of the other not-so-stellar reviews here. I would easily come here again when in the area. read more

My (Italian-born) boyfriend and I discovered Crusco's last weekend while on a long weekend vacation... what a delightful surprise! Not only did they serve up excellent and authentic cuisine, but provided excellent service as well. We enjoyed pleasant conversations with owner Celeste and other family members who work at the restaurant, as they made us feel welcome and at home. My boyfriend is picky about Italian food, and he gave them the thumbs up. We ended up eating there twice over a 3-day trip, and I recommend this restaurant. read more

Being a 5th generation native of Calaveras County I wanted to write a review, as the reviews seem a bit unbalanced (more reviews from one time weekend warriors.). My review is based on the last few times we have been to Crusco's. I am not going to go into great detail as some others here have. Summer lunch 2013: Gorgonzola Burgers with Garlic Fries.....Yum, Yum, Yum. Fall Lunch 2013: Toast with melted Gorgonzola appetizer...Yummy. Chicken Pasta special..... Just ok. (chicken tasted like leftovers =( Ravioli special.... Very good. Last Friday 2014: Polenta appetizer was awesome. Green Salads were good, just enough dressing (not drenched.) Cheese Tortellini, chicken in a garlic crème sauce .....Great! Lasagna....Great! I don't like the bread, I would prefer a crusty sourdough. As you can see we did not like everything, I don't at most restaurants. I do like the waiter Diego though =) He is attentive and friendly. I would like to say, Calaveras County is pretty small compared to where most of these reviewers are from. Remember we are not Napa Valley! Though quite a few retiree transplants would like us to be. Not too many places up there do a huge amount of turnover like the Indian Casinos or Wineries in these foothills. This place was alright for lunch. The calamari was breaded to perfection and the polenta was just the right amount of salty. However, the aglio e olio needed some work. The noodles were drenched in oil and I mean drenched in the sense that there was enough oil to make it seem as though I had ordered soup instead of pasta. It was wonderful to find this place, just driving through town, on our way home from Moaning Caverns and Yosemite last weekend. The owner wasn't too pleased to see us: 3 adults and 4 grubby kids. Maybe we just weren't dressed right, but we were fairly clean! Anyway, no "Buona Serra" from him or anything, but our waitress was great!! The food was incredible, and the service wonderful. This place is awesome! It's in Angels Camp, which is in the Sierra foothills. The restaurant is a family owned business and the food is wonderful! Real Italian fare! I celebrated a friend's birthday, and they were kind enough to let me bring a cake as a surprise. There is a cake serving fee of $12-15, which was fine with me. My friend was very surprised with the cake, and I was glad that I didn't have to serve it. Our waitress (who is also the hostess) did a great job and even provided a lit candle to top it off! She boxed up the leftover cake to take home. I had the lamb chops (lollipops) and so did my husband and my friend. Everything was delicious and the oils and bread to start was a very nice touch and also very good. Had a wonderful evening in this cute little town! read more

Thought we would try this Italian restaurant in town. Read most of the reviews and figured we could not go wrong. Boy was I wrong. It was awful. Really bad. Coming from Southern California and having dined in numerous restaurants within the same price point, I had a difficult time excepting this meal for $150 without tip. I've had great experiences at other places in the area but I just can't get over the lacking quality in food FOR the price at Cruscos. Bad cuts of meat. Old stale bread. Simple tasteless salads. Weird tasting salad dressings(how can you mess up a Ceasar dressing?) raw chicken .... I hate writing this review. I really wanted it to be good. Hopefully this will be an eye opener to the quality of the food not matching the price being charged! read more

A pleasant surprise in sleepy Angels Camp. Top-quality food in a fine old restored dining room. We enjoyed excellent bread/focaccia, although the oil/vinegar dip could have used more olive oil; terrific salads; nice calamari; delicious pasta--fettuccine and penne--and outstanding orders of skirt steak and lamb.
