We took a Sunday drive and found this little town. Stopped here for lunch. My husband had the Crusco Pasta with soup and I had the Chicken Polenta special and salad. Both delicious. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is while the waiter did a great job, he certainly could have used some help with filling water glasses, serving drinks, etc. There were other people there but they stayed in the back. There are only a few times when you find an Italian restaurant that has it all! Family owned for 16 years and they know how to do it right. Celeste the owner does all the cooking with her own receipes. Gilbert her husband makes the bread, and some great menu suggestions. We also met Gina & Diego (daughter & son-in-law) who work there also! Gina was so helpful in helping us figure out how to get around without a car! The service, decor, food & ambience were all 5 star! Would eat here every night if we could. Really enjoyed talking to everyone in the family! We had a ceaser salad to startoff and there was barely and dressing on it. Ordered a lasagna and it seemed like they were running a little low on meat and sauce because all I tasted and saw was pasta and cheese. We also ordered a spaggetti which was pretty bland ( even pregos taste better ) . The third dish was tortellini with some white sauce which also seemed watered down and bland. The service was lacking and the waiter was only there to take our order. Getting the check took forever and nobody came to take our credit card. WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE I have had in my life. I went to eat with my special needs' brother during vacation, upon arriving we asked if we could bring food in because his diet is very limited. The host was sympathetic and said yes. In the middle of our dinner, the owner of the restaurant told us that it is against their policy to allow food in, the host was wrong to do so, and it will not be allowed next time. She had no understanding for our situation and made us very uncomfortable because we already ordered, interrupting our dinner to prove a point. We were forced to eat in and pay this restaurant that we were not welcomed to, and when we tried to have a respectful conversation about why we had my SPECIAL NEEDS' brother bring in food and how we felt it could have been handled in a much more civil manner, she had no remorse and acted as if we were imposing on her. My family has never felt so disrespected, and I cannot express the frustration and defeat I felt due to the attitude and actions of the owner. I cannot leave a worse review. I would rather recommend McDonald's. read more

A restaurant this good in an area that isn't overly populated with high-end restaurants deserves more than a handful of reviews. Yelp was invaluable in spotting Crusco's late Saturday afternoon during the Jumping Frog County Fair weekend. We made a reservation on the late (8 p.m.) side which, as it turns out, wasn't needed. The crowds hit this place on the early side for dinner. Not much is open in Angels Camp at 8 p.m. Not much at all. So, Crusco's was a delightful find. My SO and I split fried Calamari (excellent batter, well prepared), we each had a half Caesar Salad, and we ordered separate entrees: she had the pasta with shrimp, and I had the polenta funghi. Both were excellent. We enjoyed with our dinner a bottle of local Tempernio from Twisted Oak winery. Excellent value and a good quaff. The ambient outdoor temperature was well into the 90s, and there was a point during the meal when we both felt too warm to continue eating. I mentioned this to our waiter, and he quickly got a step ladder and adjusted the ceiling vent, thereby solving the problem. That's service. read more

My husband, our two sons, and I have been traveling through Southern Oregon and California Gold Country for a week now, but just had our best meal of the trip. We started with the sauteed prawns and artichoke hearts. The prawns were outstanding. I had the grilled chicken and prosciutto special. It was kind of like an Italian take on chicken cordon bleu. Yummy. Hubby and Number One Son split the surf and turf steak and prawns. The steak was huge, well-seasoned and the prawns were really juicy. Service and atmosphere were also lovely. This place is outstanding. We never expected to find a restaurant of this caliber in Angels Camp. It was a pleasant surprise. Ordered the calamari for appetizer $6!! My husband thought them a little salty, but I didn't. The amount served was perfect for two. Did i mention it was only $6 ? I enjoyed the special of the day - a pork sirloin chop served on a bed of spinach, fresh applesauce and the most incredible beans - a scarlet runner bean that I've never encountered before. If you want great food, good prices, wonderful atmosphere and friendly people this is the spot. My aunts are some of the best cooks around and to dine out and have that same kind of experience is a rare find. Simple food that tastes wonderful! We started off with the polenta. Yum! and then homemade bread - yes fresh everyday made by Dad! Then we had fresh bruschetta - again with fresh bread made by Dad, shared a wonderful bowl of soup made by Mom...just like my aunts used to make with all sorts of vegetables, and a savory broth. I asked for the recipe but was told by the waitress (daughter of Mom and Dad) she makes it up as she goes by taste...and it was tasty. We had such a great time and Mom came out to talk with us when we were done with lunch. We will definitely make this a traditional stop in the future. read more

We have come to Angel's Camp for the weekend. Last night we ate in Murphy's at an Italian restaurant. The food was mediocre, but the atmosphere was not good. tonight, we ate at Crusco's Risorante. The atmosphere was warm, deocrative, and the owners, waiters, waitresses and cooks were all working very hard. The friendly atmosphere and excellent food prepared for us will bring us back the next time we visit. The intimate lighting, freshly prepared spinach salad with fresh pears, gorgonzola, bacon, onions and light dressing were fabulous. Really hit the taste buds the right way. The calamari too was delicious. The pasta dishes were very flavorful and well presented as was the italian custard dessert with fresh strawberries. We went to Crusco's on a Monday night for an early dinner. It was a really lovely night out! Our waiter/owner was fantastic! Very attentive and helpful. Our food came in a timely manner, and each dish was very good. I got the lamb, my husband, the lasagna, my sister, the steak and prawns, and my brother-in-law got a special pasta with scallops and salmon. Highly recommended by this satisfied diner. read more

Decent food. Bad customer service. Nothing special taste-wise, as the red pasta sauce must be toned down for an American palate. Sadly, our dining experience was made quite uncomfortable when the elder gentleman who seems to run the place disputed my assessment and desire to send back a glass of foul smelling/obviously corked wine. When I said he might as well take it away anyway, as I wouldn't drink it, he begrudgingly provided another glass from what he said would be a new bottle. And guess what? This new glass of Four Winds Red Blend tasted great. Not a way to treat customers you'd hope to have return. We won't be. read more

Tried it for the first time last night. I had the Lasagna which was okay. My friend had the Halibut with Cous-cous which was very tasty. Prices are a tad high IMO, but they are the only game in town other than a couple of lunch/breakfast cafes and a pizza place. Service was outstanding. They were on it with us and not much waiting for anything. Very friendly staff there and the atmosphere is really nice. Visited with my family had steak with mushroomsauce, lamb chops, pasta with shrimps and the grilled chicken. Everything was excellent. I also had the artichoke antipasti which was incredible. Friday night in Angels Camp. This was our last night here so we chose this restaurant. We arrived just as they open for dinner and were the first ones seated. Greeted by a nice young gentleman who brought us water right away. Then we were waited on by Gilbert, we enjoyed him very much. We both had the fettuccine with the seafood in a light buttery sauce as he described and that's exactly what it was. It was delicious. OH MY GOSH! We just finished a round of golf at Greenhorn and tried Crusco's after reading a few good reviews. And I must say... the food was amazing and Mark's service was wonderful. We really shouldn't have had dessert but couldn't resist the homemade custard topped with raspberrie sauce and fresh fruit... which was delicious, we definitely won't share next time. We are already planning our next trip! But... don't come up in June... just found out that's when the owners take their yearly trip to Italy. read more

Had dinner last night the Antipasto salad was AMAZING then we had the steak gorgonzola YUMMY! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. My friend and I talked for what seemed like forever and our waiter Mark was just divine. He handled all of our requests perfectly and promptly yet gave us the space we needed to catch up and chat privately. Only missing the one star because the bathroom in my opinion needs a bit of updating and it is not handicap friendly. All in all a great place to eat otherwise. read more

Cuscos has become a staple of our dining out options of places to frequent in the area. Love this family run business through and through. The owner and family shine as we are welcomed with each visit. We venture to Cuscos at least 2 to 3 times a month and look forward to our next amazing meal. Why we keep coming back! The staff and service, such warmth and attention. They even remember the menu items and details that we've ordered previously. Menu: amazing homemade Italian dishes prepared fresh and per order. Happy to customize too. My father loves fettuccini and prawns and though they don't have this on their regular menu they're always happy to accommodate his request. The space is so fun and stepping into a fun Italian experience, and this historical building is gorgeous. From the decor to the music, this family run restaurant makes me smile each time we come. We were visiting Angel's Camp for the Crafty Chicks Road Show and a local suggested Crusco's. Great recommendation. The service was excellent and food delicious! I ordered the Florentine and it was by far one of the best pasta dishes I've ever eaten. I may have to make the 2 1/2 hour drive back to eat here again! Also need to say we met so many nice people during our visit. Beautiful town. read more

I asked for a recommendation in hotel where I was staying for a decent dinner after drove 12 hours, they suggested this place and thanks god. They were slow to be honest, but seems to be a popular small little town rest. My salad was delicious and fresh and my entree was divine. They need lessons on cleanliness. They put flatware directly on table, and even stopped to set our ice tea spoons down on the host/hostess station before picking them up and bringing them to set them down directly on our table. Service was a bit slow. Lunch was slightly expensive, but not real bad if everything had been done right. Food was barely warm, even though the place was nearly empty at the time, maybe one other table with customers. We didn't want to spend more time to try to get hot food. Burger was otherwise very good, chicken sandwich was small and mushroom portion on top was skimpy, fries were very good but for some reason just a few on top were hot and the rest were cool, and fries need to be hot to be good. I'm 100% northern Italian and have traveled through Italy several times. That being said....I find that my 2 dinners here were excellent and I will return again. What I tried: Appetizers: Sauteed Artichoke Hearts with Roasted Bell Peppers - Excellent though wished portion was a little bigger. Calamaretti - Probably the best calamari I have had and I am a calamari snob, living in Santa Cruz on the ocean and having had calamari in Venice. These are prepared in the proper Italian way...lightly floured, perfectly fried. If you want breaded calamari..go to Olive Garden. Salads - Caesar Salad...excellent. Mixed greens with pears..really excellent. Entrees - Fettucini with Prosciutto & Peas in cream sauce....VERY excellent...about the best version of this that I have ever had....the cream sauce was not to heavy and flavorful NY Steak with wild mushroom sauce - Steak cooked perfectly and excellent quality. The wild mushroom sauce perfect! The accompanying vegetable and mashed potatoes were excellent...flavorful with excellent herb seasoning. Dessert - Key Lime Pie....again excellent and unique flavor. Chocolate Almond Torte - excellent You can expect to pay about $45-50 per person if you have full meal (2 glasses wine, appetizer, salad , entree, dessert and coffee). I see some reviews complained about cost...but I think it was excellent value for the high quality of preparation, ingredients and ambiance. read more

I'm local to Angels Camp and decided to go to a local favorite. I had very high hopes for this restaurant but it turned out to be a total disappointment. I must admit, I'm a foodie with much experience with food tasting and preparation. An older gentlemen was our server and seemed bored stiff and slow. He was not interested in serving. Starting with their focaccia bread they serve with the diner. It was cold with no traditional garlic and herb aroma. The balsamic was cheap. I tried their calamari. It was soggy, unseasoned, and the sauce tasted like ketchup! The Caesar salad did not have Caesar dressing...go figure? but had an overwhelming lemon juice taste and looked very sloppy. The main course was unseasoned, the cherry tomatoes were cold on the inside and scallops were from a frozen bag and were diced, however, the pasta was cooked well. The fact that this restaurant had high ratings and is expensive is quite mind-boggling to me. I wished they had some pride in their food and respect for the cuisine. Crusco's Ristorante is one of those gems you find in the middle of nowhere that just knocks your socks off. Let's start from the beginning... I live in the same county, and with so many small towns, one inevitably ends up passing by this place many times, but for some reason I just never stopped in. The place is always pretty busy, and seems popular. This last weekend marked 13 years for Crusco's Ristorante. Last night, my wife and I went on a date (married couples should continue to date, that's my opinion) and we saw a move at the Angel's Theater. We love the popcorn, so always end up getting an extra large (covered in imitation butter flavored grease) and pigging out. The plan was to do dinner after the movie, and maybe try Crusco's finally. We arrived 20 minutes prior to showtime, so decided to walk down to Crusco's Ristorante and look at the menu on the window to get an idea what we wanted. It was just about 3:30 and the place was closed (they close from lunch at 3:00 and reopen for dinner at 5:00). While we were standing there discussing the menu, a nice gentleman walked up and excused himself so he could unlock the front door and enter. He identified himself as a cook at the restaurant, and was VERY nice. Despite being off the clock, he kindly spoke with us about the menu and their specials that evening. I told him I was a vegetarian. Usually, restaurant cooks roll their eyes at vegetarians, but he got a big smile and told me that his daughter is vegan, so he is well aware of vegetarian likes/dislikes and would be glad to come up with something special for me! Wow. OK, we told him we'd be back right after the movie. The movie let out about 6:00 PM, so wife and I walked down to Crusco's Ristorante and through the front door. With outdoor temps in the high 30's, the warmth inside was exactly what we needed. The lady at the front who greeted us is apparently the owner's wife or mom (not sure which). She asked us if we had a reservation. Reservation? In Angel's Camp? We said no, and she looked like she was going to cry when she had to tell us she was booked for the evening. We were slightly shocked and disappointed, and it must have shown. She said, "Well, you're welcome to sit at the bar, I'm so sorry I don't have a table." We told her we actually prefer to sit at the bar! Then, we can sit next to each other and not apart. So, to the bar we went. Despite not drinking alcohol, the bar is just more romantic, not having a table between us. Been married over 20 years and still don't like being apart. She thought that was nice, and brought us menus, silverware (tools!!) and freshly baked focaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic. Warm, fresh baked bread is my kryptonite. The chef we had seen earlier saw us from the kitchen and waved real big to us, we felt like VIP's. The bartender came over to make some drinks and took our drink orders. He also made my wife a fresh espresso right in front of us, neato! She loved it. After examining the menu, my wife had it figured out and ordered a tortellini with garlic cream sauce, I told him that the chef said he would make me something vegetarian and surprise me. I had no idea what I was in for. Food came out in maybe 15 minutes, and it was food HEAVEN. My surprise vegetarian dish was a fettuccini pasta with sun dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cheeses, and an incredible olive oil type wine sauce. It was way better than anything I have ever eaten in this whole county. You could really taste the freshness in the vegetables, and with the simple sauce, every flavor came bouncing out. The parmesan shreds on top were moist, not dry or hard, and the seasoning was spot on. Just an amazing take on a vegetable pasta dish. I wish I knew what he called it, but I suspect if you tell them you are a vegetarian, you might get the same treatment. My wife's tortellini dish was beautiful looking, total art on a plate. I tried a piece, and it was incredible. They obviously didn't buy this at Costco, it was perfection. Unfortunately, we had previously pigged out on pounds of popcorn at the theater, so we didn't try any of their apps, nor did we have room for dessert. I really had wanted to try their chocolate truffle torte. Since we now know we will be back (AND we now know to make a reservation), we will be sure and starve ourselves in advance so there is plenty of appetite to do it all! What an amazing place with incredibly friendly wait staff, not snooty at all. Small town kindness meets high end dining. Even the decor will take you back and relax you. Don't stop in Crusco's Ristorante if you're wanting to eat and run in 10 minutes. Stop in when you really want to make your meal a delectable adventure. You will not be disappointed. read more

This restaurant was amazing. They made our food just the way we wanted, and the owner was so nice and friendly! I phoned in an order and she was very nice and courteous over the phone. And when I got to the restaurant the rest of the staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. The pictures and decorations around the restaurant were nice and it felt like a very family oriented restaurant. Loved the food, it was delicious and filling! I wish there was a negative star rating. Pretentious sums up this tourist trap. I had the misfortune of trying the special. Previously frozen ravioli with mushrooms and raw tomatoes swimming in butter and garlic. The waiter asked the so called chef if they made their own ravioli and he said the ravioli was artisan made. So that;s what frozen ravioli is called now. We also tried the Cesar's salad and it too was below par. Why does this place think it should call itself an Italian Restaurant? Macaroni Grill kicks this place's butt and it's a chain. A Big Mac would have been a better dinner. Save your self the trouble and bad experience. read more

The salad and Florentine pasta were deemed good but I had the polenta special which was probably the best thing I've eaten in months! It was delicious!!!
