I've been a customer of Crush Comics since it opened nearly 20 years ago and let me tell you that this is the best comic book store in the East Bay so don't be fooled by the nerds who posted bad reviews previously. What these self-righteous nerds fail to mention is that most of the people who work at places like Comic Relief (in Berkeley) don't even want to acknowledge you when you step foot in their door unless you either A) have tattoos and look homeless yet somehow hip B) smell like shit and look emotionally wounded C) pine for their attention by kissing their asses or D) all of the above. I've been to Comic Relief a bunch of times and felt alienated from the get-go. That's the difference with Crush Comics... they have a friendly staff who actually take an interest when you step foot in the door. The owner Mike has always been nice to his customers and staff. Even if the previous reviews are true, so what if he's grumpy from time to time? You would be too if the new Harry Potter movie just get let out next door at the movie theater and you're suddenly bombarded with 20 screaming kids whose parents aren't willing to buy anything after 15 excruciating minutes. same goes for you dorks that loiter for an hour just to buy $2.99 worth of stuff then have the audacity to write a bad yelp review. thanks for you're enlightening reviews, geniuses... what you fail to fathom is that Crush Comics isn't Barnes N' Noble and/or Border's and your very presence bothers me when i catch sight of you. Aside from that, Crush has an unparalleled selection of Toys, mini-busts, Mangas, TPB's, and Super Hero comics. Growing up in the area, many comic book stores have come and gone but Crush Comics remains the very best and gets better every year. The staff does a great job keeping the the store clean and up to date while maintaining the old school Comic Store vibe that us hardcore comic fans have grown to love. read more

This is my 2nd stop for comics whenever my normal comic haunt is out of something (which seems to be rarer and rarer these days!). Some friendly staff, at times the store seems to lack real identity. I never have a feel for what this store wants to be. read more

This is another of my favorite haunts; my boyfriend took me here for the first time a few years ago. Heads up: it does not really have a manga section. However, it does have a thorough selection of single issues and trade paperbacks, as well as gifts and other accessories for our inner nerd. It's a nice setup inside; Crush is even smaller than Illusive Comics and Games, but again, it makes the most of its space and display space. As with all comic book stores that I have been to, I enjoy browsing here, because I almost always find something new and interesting. read more

Just posting for pops not a comic collector. Their pop selection was small but they had pops that were true to the store(comic). They had a lot of PX exclusive good condition box so I got a couple. Staff was friendly. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little girl. After seeing a movie at the theater my dad would let me buy a couple of Pokemon booster packs (or Yu-Gi-Oh packs when I was going through that phase in middle school). Now I can appreciate this shop a lot more. Although I wish they still sold collectable Pokemon cards, this is my go-to place for card sleeves, trading card binder sleeves, and the occasional booster pack. On top of this, the guys who work there are great. They know their stuff and are super friendly. read more

Not sure why people are hating. It was my first time here and I had a great time browsing through everything and talking with the guy who worked there. He ended up giving me some extra goodies since I bought hella Power Rangers stuff, too! Good prices, lots of stuff on sale. Definitely will be coming back. read more

Personally, I felt welcomed at Crush. Their entire staff is extremely nice and helpful when it comes to finding a certain comic. Usually it may be the owner or the person working the register who will greet you, that is unless they are busy with another customer, but upon arriving a simple "Hi, how's it going?" will be said, and a "Thank you" is always said by a staff member when you are leaving. read more

Nice place to go. I mainly only go here for the baseball cards because I'm a collector. They have some really good cards like the Dennis Eckersley and Darryl Strawberry. Once a year, they have a free comic book day and they give out pretty good comics. read more

When Collector's Corner closed, I didn't know who could replace the laid back and friendly place it was. Dr. Comics is ok, but way too expensive IMHO. Crush Comics definitely stands out. A comic place that has socially skilled staff, is spacious, and a great selection both on the comic side and on the collectible side. I felt that I could go in there as a newbie and get some real support. read more

Ah! What can I say? Easily the best and my personal favorite comic shop in the bay area. Mike really knocks it out of the park. Like really. Amazing selection, HUGE trade paperback selection, back issues and rare/key issue books. Mike is always awesome and very helpful, so is Sal. Always really cool dudes that are always down to chat it up about comics. I travel almost every Wednesday to get my comics that almost no other shops order. If you're looking for variants, they're usually here! I also buy my comic supplies here because they are the best priced supplies out there. Everything is priced very, very reasonably. My only complaint is parking, but I usually park on the street. No biggie. I just wish I lived closer, I would be here every day! read more

One thing that I like about Crush comics is that it is right next door to a movie theater, that's a plus! Crush comics is one of those enduring shops that have withstood the test of time, they have diversified products in their store and not just comics,I think that is great because you can get all your fanboy needs there,lol!! I remember Mikey starting out with John at the comic shop in san leandro many years ago, I 'm happy Mikey is still there today and that I can go and get my comic fix and my son can get his action figure fix too! These guys are awesome. My wife and I came by on a rainy day and the staff were very knowledgable and friendly. For being in a pretty small building, Crush has a very wide and complete selection. I was excited to see they had $1 comics also. Browsing through that stuff for 5 minutes had me walking out of there with an almost complete miniseries I'd never heard of before. We also decided to check out some new stuff based on conversations with the staff, who after a few seconds of talking to us knew exactly what other material we might be interested in. These guys know their artists and authors pretty well. All I had to do was say, "I like Ben Templesmith and Mike Mignolia" and before I knew it, there were several titles in stock to choose from. The guy just rattled it off the top of his head. If I wanted to check out something he mentioned, he could lead me right to it. Crush also seems to offer quite a few backlog issues. I found some early single-digit issues from the Spawn series that I read when I was a kid (and no, I can't tell you what Christmas was like in the 40's). My only complaint is that Crush does not have any reserved spots in the parking lot directly next to them, so if you can find street parking close by, grab any spot you can. Otherwise, you get stuck hunting for something on the cross streets. But that does not take away from your experience IN the store. We're definitely going back. read more

If you read this, please read to the end... My wife just bought some party gifts for my 9yo. They went over fine. But that's not the reason I'm writing. I'm writing because I'm horrified by what happened next... On Sunday I checked my online account and saw 2 charges from Crush Comics for the party favors. 2 line items at crush comics, both for 33.77. I was a bit upset about this because I'd recently had the same thing happen to me at a hotel where I'd been accidentally charged 3x the correct fee. I was upset because it was only chance that I checked my statement and caught it. So... this week we've made multiple calls to the store to reclaim the extra charge. Today we reached the owner of the store who said he'd be happy to resolve this if my wife would go back to the store. Well - this wasn't acceptable. I wasn't having my wife be further inconvenienced over their mistake. So I called back and got the manager and demanded 'satisfaction'. I gave my email address and he said he'd investigate. Well, I got an email an hour later saying he'd checked his bank and his records and could only see one transaction. So I logged back into my bank to get a screen shot of the issue and... only one transaction. Maybe there was always only one and I was temporarily insane but I can hardly believe that. But I definitely look insane at best and a scammer at worst. My apologies to the unnecessarily obliging staff at Crush Comics. I'm embarrassed and am sorry for being so boorish in my indignation. There's a karmic debt out there that I owe. read more

Pretty good place to get comics. But it is located in a very inc0onvenient location. There's no parking lots where you can (legally) park nearby. I usually park next to the walmart of whatever that once plaza has. Anyway, I'm not a hardcore comic book fan, I have only recently gotten into them. The only comics i buy are X-Men and they have an great selection there. Everything is organized and the books are in perfect condition. My first impression of the owner wasn;t that great (but he is a pretty cool guy). Me and my friend were browsing for a really long time (comic books are expensive, I want to make sure I get what i want! I wasn;t reading the books, just looking at some pages) and hesaid "Can i help you boys?'. i don;t know if he meant it but his tone was kind of like "Either buy something or get out." But first impressions don't always last, my next few visits he was very nice. Him and his staff had good knowledge on the questions I asked (how many volumes/ issues was a certain series ; recommendations for newcomers, etc). Anyway, this shop if very clean, bright and organized. If you know what you are looking for- and they have it, you can easily find it on your own. This is the closest comic book store where I live and I wouldn't mind going there again, which I will. read more

This place has been around for years, ever since I was a kid. I would buy maybe 5-10 comics every month when I was actively collecting. Now I'm broke, so when I go there I'm looking around and checking out the figurines mostly. The busts/statues. Glad they're still here after all these years. Occasionally they have Free Comic Book Saturdays. I think I'd be happier if they carried more statues/figurines but those probably don't move very fast in a comic book shop. read more

Crush Comics is one of the first comic shops where I was a regular patron for many years during college, and still so today. It's a great home town shop with a great selection of comics, graphic novels, and a wide array of collectables. The shop is very well setup, and is easy to browse for new comics. Back issues are well organized and the trade paperbacks are prominently displayed for easy access browsing. If you like playing card games, this shop isn't for you, they have a small selection of card games. Personally, I prefer it that way. This is more of a traditional comic shop that you'll find in all those Jay and Silent Bob movies. If you're looking for newly released items from action figures to collectable statues, I can almost guarantee you Crush Comics has them. Mike, owner of Crush Comics, is really friendly and is very helpful. Mike is a friendly guy you can strike up a conversation with when it's not terribly busy. His staff is also just as friendly and will ask if you need help if you're unsure what you're looking for. read more

DONT EVER BUY FROM THIS COMIC STORE RIP OFF RIP OFF!!! HAPPENED 2 TIMES!! So I bought a comic for $75 and I get home its priced at $60 wtv I can deal with that. That was the 1st time. 2nd mistake I made was coming back so I buy another comic priced at $60 that's fine I don't mind paying retail for a comic I really want. I get home and a few pages are ripped, no wonder guy had a huge smile when I was purchasing it, I guess he found his sucker. I have collected comic books since I was 13 years old and had accounts from 5 different areas that I have lived while growing up. I have been a customer of Crush Comics for about 7 years now and I have not gone anywhere else. Mike and his staff are knowledgeable and very friendly. The shop is well organized and stocked. They take care of my pre-orders for comics and toys every time. If there is an issue with the the toys from the distributor that I have pre-ordered from, Mike will diligently send me an email update. I look forward to receiving the stores weekly new comic book list; http://www.crushcomics.com/. When I see something I like, I will normally send an email to Mike to save me a copy for when I come in next. Yeah, its that easy. Another reason I am writing this review is that some of the few that I have read had some less than stellar ratings.
