We love the food at Crust...especially the salads and pizza. But, don't order off their lunch menu, they are half the size of dinner portions and only a few dollars less. You feel like you are getting a kids meal. I recommend ordering the dinner portion, paying the extra money and taking home leftovers for later. I would have been a much happier customer had I done that. Also, they have made changes to their menu, but the online menu doesn't represent the changes. So, if you think you are ordering capellini, you are actually ordering shells now. read more

It was very loud in there, probably because I got there at a busy time. I got the pita bread and hummus and the hummus tasted a bit weird, I also got a basic pepperoni pizza and that tasted pretty good, nothing super great but it wasn't bad at all. I would recommend coming here at a less-busy time. read more

We found this place by sheer luck. Had good reviews, a bar, and TVs. The staff was extremely kind, funny and accurate. Beer selection was good and the food was very good too. The only complaint I have is that it smelled funny which kind of turned me off. Everything else outweighs that one thing though. read more

I was a bit skeptical about this place at first, but let me tell you how pleasantly surprised I was. I assumed it would be just another pizza place but the ingredients are fresh and quality, you can really taste the effort they put into their food. The salads are great and a nice side to have. I came here for a nice evening after work and man did I get one. The team work here is phenomenal. My server was a little busy but Amy! Sent from heaven. She stepped in and took any doubt out of my mind. She really knows what she is doing handling guests, I was only mildly frustrated and she saw it from a mile away and turned my mediocre experience into a night to remember. Not to mention the food is amazing. I cannot want to further explore the menu. Also the wine selection is amazing. I truly cannot say enough about how great everything was dining here. We were looking forward to going to this location of Crust because they have some things on the menu that the La Costa location does not. We were not disappointed by the fried artichoke hearts, although I'm pretty sure they were served with plain ranch dressing rather than the "hatch chili ranch" that is on the menu. The Ceasar salad and the pizza that my son ordered were par for the course. My husband liked his meatballs. I ordered the Sausage and Escarole Rigatoni, described as: "Scimeca's pork sausage, cannellini beans, escarole, San Marzano, rigatoni, shaved Parmesan." I was excited because I love escarole and thought it sounded like a good, unique pasta dish. However, when the dish came out I noticed that it was studded with romaine lettuce, not escarole. Also, there were no beans. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress, she took it back for them to remake. When she brought it back there were still no beans, and it was clear they had simply removed the obvious pieces of lettuce and left the rest. She told me, "Our chef said that our version of escarole is romaine." That is like saying, "Our version of zucchini is cucumber." I asked to speak to the manager and was told there was no manager on duty, and when I asked to speak to the chef I was told he was unable to come out (the restaurant was nearly empty.) I wouldn't be upset if the dish that was served matched the description on the menu, but it did not. And really, no one seemed to care. read more

Hence my resistance to ever writing a review. Why would I recommend one great place over another when most likely the reader of such a review could find something just as good in a location that may be closer to where they are. And yet here I am, writing a review, hardly believing it as I am typing the words. Today I have been humbled, rocked to my core, as if awaken to what I never knew was possible. The location, decor, and atmosphere are all on point. The food is excellent. HOWEVER, the way i was mesmerized by the knowledge, impeccable service, and stunning way she carries herself, was purely life changing. You will become dizzy in the presence of the most exquisite human being and professional bartender who graces industry. As it turns out her name is Nikki, yes even her name pulls at the senses. I had no idea my dining experience here would rival those of my vast travels throughout the globe. Somehow the artistic purity she displays in every action of her job demands your attention. Respecting every perfect pour, witnessing the way she glides weightlessly from one patron to another. Leaving smiles on the faces of all who have had the privilege to have been served by this amazing professional. From the moment her glorious voice greeted my entrance to the heavy reluctant departure, she made every moment special. Leaving me in a combination of a food coma and shock. Never have I been so affected by the combination of exceptional food and what can only be considered the greatest bartender ever. I am truly changed forever by this and cannot wait for just enough time to pass for my body to be hungry again thus providing justification to return. Just returned from lunch at Crust...a party of 8. After we placed our order, 5 of the 8 meals came out in a reasonable time, however the other three arrived a full 15 minutes later. My meal was one of the 3 that arrived late..a roast beef sandwich which was very dry and burnt around the edges. The waitress wasn't very attentive. Once the bill was presented, they actually added 20% gratuity. I don't mind tipping 20%, but I do mind the fact that Crust's management allows the gratuity to be added automatically. Probably won't be going back there soon. read more

Just went to the new Crust in Solana Beach. Owners Matt and Kimia did a great job. Same great food and staff as their Carmel Valley location. Stoked for them and for me as I don't have to drive as far south now. Always been worth the drive but much shorter now. I've been to Crust Pizzeria in Solana Beach now a few times since they have opened, and the New York style pizza and pasta is consistantly very good. Their staff actually look like they are enjoying working there as well which makes your whole experience enjoyable. read more

I'm thrilled to have Crust in Solana Beach. I did read the other reviews, and honestly, I think those of you who maybe didn't have the best experience, might want to give it another chance. I went to the one in Carmel Valley when the Crust opened up there. There were some growing pains in getting the service right, but the food is fantastic. After a few months in business, they got things right, and it was nothing but good food and good times from then on. But now I go to the one in Solana Beach because I like the look and feel even more. The pizza is some of the best in San Diego and their pita bread (which is really pizza dough) is incredible. Brussel sprouts dish is really great, and I love the capellini pasta dish as well as the wedge salad. Most importantly, the atmosphere is something that SB has been lacking. A great place to watch sports with what seems like 20 TV's, and like Carmel Valley, it's also a great spot to bring the Little League and soccer teams after their games. I know that I'm not as critical as some of the other messages on here, all of which have some valid points, but in my opinion, it's a really good atmosphere with really good food.
