The best mochi, with the best cream! Our favorites were the mango and matcha. Definitely my favorite dessert place

(I had such a positive experience that I'm finally posting my very first Yelp review! ) Friendly staff, a great variety of unique options, and super easy parking. I had seen this kind of cream mochi on social media, so I was very happy to discover that we have a place making them locally with such friendly service! I picked up two mochis: Mango cream mochi -- the mango was ripe and sweet, and the cream was light with just the right amount of sweetness (for my taste -- I prefer low sugar). Custom made mochi-- this one was very filling and absolutely delicious! It's a custom creation with three fillings: taro, black sweet sticky rice, and green tea cream cheese, all coated in a buttery biscuit crunch. read more

Not only are their mochis, fruit teas, and cakes absolutely worth the hype, they also offer lots of other small bites and make custom cakes. Found this hidden gem and they sell the best mochi. I bought the oreo, strawberry and mango mochi. The downside is I had to wait for over an hour for them to prep the mochi but overall it's a must try. Will go back to try the matcha mochi and other flavors they have recently created. read more

I think this place has been popping off recently but for good reason! They have the best mochi in town (although not sure if there are many options around here). The mochi is so chewy and fresh every time, there's multiple flavors and you can even create your own. I personally enjoy the pork floss and mango cream mochi. Had to grab their viral custom mochi that I've been seeing before heading for dinner. Inside it's a small bakery with different types of Asian desserts. Only got the mochi this time but was very tempted on getting more. We got 2 mochis with 2 fillings each and it ended up being almost $20. It's quite pricey but it's the only kind in the Boston area. Unfortunately I didn't eat the mochi right away but took it with me to dinner and by the end of dinner, it was nearly melted even though it was kept in a cool area. I love the mochi!!!! It's so fresh. I really love the oreo mochi, the filling was really satisfying. My boyfriend got the mango, and he loved it just as much. It was so quick, I will definitely come here more often. The cakes are really special, I'll soon buy a celebratory cake for a special occasion soon. read more

This is the best asian bakery in all of MA. The hours are AMAZING for those who live a bit further so you can make the trip after work if you live further away (which I did). Also, there is metered diagonal parking across the street with plenty of spots. The vibes inside were so personal and creative. Inside was full of pictures of happy customers and the entire bakery just feels warm and cozy. I got the japanese cheesecake, strawberry mochi, and mango mochi. I'm not kidding you when I say I have been dreaming about fresh fruit filled mochi for years. I was so tired of bean fillings. When I saw this place online I KNEW I had to try it. It was probably the most scrumptious thing i've ever tasted. Fresh mochi texture is nothing like I've ever had before, soft, pillowy, doughy, chewy. The inside filled with cream and strawberries was the most delectable thing to bite into after biting into the soft mochi. The strawberries are cut perfectly small and nestled inside the cream filling which has a buttery milky taste without being overpoweringly sweet. Had the fresh cream mochi! I ordered: 1 strawberry 2 mango 1 taro w pork floss 1 Oreo 1 matcha I liked the strawberry and mango mochi the most. It reminded me of the Asian birthday fruit cakes frosting with fruit. This was my favorite. The texture of the mochi was amazing. Then matcha with red beans was good too. A matcha whipped cream with some red bean. Then Oreo. Least favorite was taro w/ pork floss. Service was great. The store was bright and cute, but if busy would be crowded. The homemade mochi were great! we tried the mango and chocolate. I hadnt had these before so didn't know what to expect- but they were filled with fresh mango and a whipped cream like filling. Cute little family-owned dessert spot in Newton. It gets busy in here and there's sometimes a line, so I recommend either ordering ahead of time or waiting a bit since they make the mochi fresh and there's only 2-3 staff. Had to really limit myself here and order one - I got the ready-made matcha creme mochi and it was delicious!! My friend got several freshly made mochi combinations and she loved them all. I loved the bubble tea at Crystal's! I ordered the large assam black bubble tea ($6.59). They've got a variety of pastries including tiramisu, cakes and cream puffs. The founder/pastry chef of Crystal's Bakery has been baking goods in her private home studio for 4+ years before opening up this brick and mortar shop. I've heard plenty of good things from my friends over the years about her Asian style desserts and pastries but only get to try it myself recently. It sure didn't disappoint! I like everything I got from here! A great indicator of Asian style desserts is that they're NOT THAT SWEET and often of a more complex level of savory and sweetness. You can find that in a lot of products here: the cream cake, the yolk pastry w/ red bean and pork, the tiger skin roll and the pork floss cake, just to name a few. I'm very happy to see the store open because with more staff and better equipment, she can make more products for a cheaper price. Although it's still on the pricier side, it's way more affordable than when she only took customized order from her private studio. Customers get a better deal and the hardworking chef owns her business - this is the American dream to me! I recommend everyone in the neighborhood to stop by and try it! I haven't had the opportunity to try the baked goods yet, but for any boba connoisseurs like myself, you have to hit this place up! Bring cash or make a venmo, but it's a contender for best boba in Boston. Beats out any of the ones I can think of, like Tea Do, Moge, Meet Fresh, Gong Cha. Boba is flavorful and tea is very abundant compared to the milk. Very solid drinks. The prices for baked goods are high but they look really good and I'm all for supporting local businesses! This bakery is such a wonderful addition to Newton. My kids constantly beg to go there. The cakes are out of this world, and even per my mother in law worth the higher price from the usual Chinese bakery we have gone to because of the higher quality including real cream and real fruit. My kids are also obsessed with the crepe cake, and we always need to pick up egg custard (dan ta) as well. The bubble tea is also superior to really any other place locally. I went to this dessert spot for some cakes as well as to study. The overall experience was good, but I do have some mixed feelings. The customer service was really friendly and accommodating, definitely a 100 for that. The cakes were fine, but a little bit pricey, probably to offset operating expenses in the area as others said. However, I think the business operation is not carried out well. Many of the items ran out just several hours after opening; people need to wait half an hour to pick up pre-ordered cakes; delivery people arguing for a slow preparation... Crystal's Bakery is an excellent and authentic Japanese bakery. These other reviewers don't seem to understand that Japanese desserts aren't as sweet as the diabetes-inducing American junk they are used to. The crepe cakes are fantastic, unique and light. The bakery is spotless, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the desserts are elegant and delicious. I go weekly and plan on continuing to.
