We love this restaurant and have lunch there every time we visit Savannah. We were very disappointed last week to find that lamb burgers, our favorite, and the item we always eat there has been removed from the menu. We arrived and asked for a table for 10. We knew that for a table that large there would be a wait, which was fine since our whole party had not arrived yet. I grew up in Savannah and wanted our guests to have lunch at a long time Savannah establishment. While waiting for our whole party to arrive we sat at the bar and had the pretzel and beer cheese (yummy!) and cocktails. After an hour the rest of the party arrived and we let the hostess know. She said that there was a table waiting to pay and then we would be seated. This was fine with us because again, we knew there would be a wait since there were 10 of us. After about 15 minutes she went to show us to our table. Not a table for 10 but a table for 6 and another table for 4. I said no, we need a table for 10. She said this is what we have. I'm a Savannah resident and have been coming here for years. I walked to the other room because I knew there were large tables in there and the hostess at me and said "I told you we didn't have anything else". We were there with my daughter and son in law and his family. My daughter doesn't live here and I only get to see her two or three times a year. I haven't been around the son in laws family very much so was looking forward to getting to visit with them. How the hostess could possibly think a table for four and a table for six would be acceptable, I don't know. If she had told us when we first arrived that we would not be able to sit together we would have gone somewhere else. Needless to say, my lunch was ruined. The food was ok and usually I enjoy it, but not today. They leave to go home tomorrow so this was the last chance I had to visit with them. Also, because the server considered this a table of ten, gratuity was added to our checks. This was never mentioned but fortunately we saw it on our tickets. First time in Savannah and decided to check this place out. Welcoming staff friendly and helpful. The food portions are not only huge but flavorful!!! Everything I ordered was a hit! Crystal CRABPUPPIES were great didn't tastes like seawater at all! The pimento pig tasty, flavorful, buttery, and weren't shy about stuffing it with pork. On the Essential 18 Restaurant list for Savannah and it did not disappoint. Quick seating outside and an attentive waiter. A great selection of beers and crafts to compliment some great food options from the menu. I started with the Crystal Crab Stew. A thick, pudding consistency but tasty. The Burgers are what they are famous for so I ordered the original with bacon and provolone and what my waiter said was the "nail in the coffin!"; the onion rings as my side. Been to Savannah 3 times. Been here 3 times. Love it that much! Finally got to dine inside. Last 2 times it was shorter wait for outside dining. Today we came for late lunch around 2:30 and there was no wait for inside. Great space! Love the warm wood decor. Sat in booth in bar area. Server was awesome. Beer nice and cold. So many varieties of tap beer! Everything we have eaten here has been great! Little disappointed my Greek salad was lite on the feta unlike last couple times but that's ok. Crab chowder is to die for! Flounder Reuben sandwich was awesome as was the chicken salad. Too full for dessert, which was too bad because their peach cobbler is a must have! This was such a random find. We were walking to Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, not realizing they were only open from 11-2 daily. Happened to see a couple walking into a house right by it and asked if they recommend a place nearby. They were carrying food containers in plastic bags and said they just picked up take out from Crystal Beer Parlor and said we would love it. Walked over and were seated outside right away. I am glad someone asked a guy out front where we checked in because the bar area is at the door on the corner, but if you walk behind the building that is where the quieter seating is. Ray was our server and an absolute gem. Our orders were accurate and he checked on us a few times despite having multiple tables. Easily paid for our meals separately at the table. Oldest Restaurant in Savannah, and we finally tried what everyone has been recommending. Fantastic! Started with Crab Hushpuppies. I had fried shrimp, grilled veggies, and Ocilla Slaw. Laurie had fried flounder, veggies, and creamy slaw. Then we finished with Sweet Potato Cannoli, and Fried Pound Cake a la mode. Don't need to go any further. Just order that and you'll be very happy. Should've got the clam stew kicking myself for that one. My husband had the turkey Reuben and he really enjoyed that. I gave an extra star for ambiance. Food was barely so-so. I had the driest salmon sandwich I've ever had and I do mean EVER. French fries were cold, the tomato on my sandwich was not ripe and the lettuce was limp. Husband had a burger which he said was pretty good. I think this place is way over-hyped for the food. TL;DR. Get the shrimp and grits. You won't be disappointed. We arrived at 11:30 and the kitchen hadn't prepped the pulled pork yet so my wife couldn't get the Bowl n Soul she wanted or anything with pulled pork. She was disappointed. Our server stated they had the best burgers in Savannah, so she opted for the classic crystal burger instead. While it's the first and only burger we've had in Savannah, we can't attest to this, but it was damn tasty. I got the shrimp and grits which were the best I have ever had. When in the south and some places up north, I always try this dish. The grits were so smooth and creamy. The andouille sausage and red peppers were a nice addition. Love this place! My boyfriend and I live right up the road and come here often. We sat at a booth with Brandi and she took excellent care of us. Old, historic eatery from way back in the day. Parking can be a challenge. Food is good and Southern. Portions are large. The Bison Burger is a meal by itself. If you are visiting Grand Old Savannah, this is a must to go and enjoy looking at all the old photos on the wall. They don't make 'em like this anymore. We have lived here over 30 years and this is one of the places that we hold as a special treat for special occasions. Indoor/ outdoor seating, dog friendly, family friendly, vegetarian, vegan, seafood, meats, AND ample parking? Is this a dream come true in downtown Savannah?!? I've been here twice now for dinner and had a great experience both times. The first time I went with a large group of friends, 10-12 people paying all separate checks. We were seated immediately and we're well taken care of. I ordered the Aegean Platter from the appetizer menu as my dinner. I didn't even finish it, very filling. Second time around there were only 3 of us. We ordered the giant pretzel for the table and I ordered a shrimp plate with hand cut fries for dinner. Everything was excellent again! There were a few things in the gift shop window that caught my eye, but it was too busy in there for me to look around. I'll have to come back soon to shop again. read more

A beautiful bar, befitting the designation of "parlor", with so many Southern, Low Country classics, that making a menu selection was challenging. The Crystal Beer Parlor is conveniently located in the Historical District of Savanna. Upon entering, I was struck by the cosy, somewhat pubby vibe, but with a much more open interior, allowing for intimacy. Hence the "Parlor": you and your dining companions can "parlay" to your hearts' content, while also enjoying the public vibe and ambience. As we came to explore the city on foot, we were hardly dressed for fine and formal dining: the upscale casual environment of the Crystal Beer Parlor was perfect! We could dress up a little, but still wear functional walking clothes. Our gracious hostess seated us promptly (we were dining early, so seating was no problem) and took our drink order. They serve a lot more than just beer! We each ordered a house variation on a mule, both of which were delicious and so pretty, in their classic copper mugs. Having been in Savannah long enough to know about the typically generous portions, we eyed the appetizers and soups with a cautious gaze. As sad as I was to pass up on the Crystal Crabpuppies and the famous Creamy Crab stew, we went directly for the mains. Our thoughtful waitress (wow the staff is SO nice!) made some great recommendations. My husband chose the lamb gyros, and I, in my quest to find the best Shrimp and Grits in Savanna, opted for this house specialty. Wow!! Both of the main course dishes were outstanding. The lamb gyro was perfectly spiced so as be to both tame and enhance the gaminess of the lamb, and the meat had a juicy, roasty flavor. My Shrimp and Grits were certainly among the finest in the city, with the pleasant smokiness of the sausage infused gravy complementing, rather than overwhelming, the creamy grits. The shrimp themselves were perfect: that ocean-fresh flavour, the plump and juicy meat, with the satisfying pop of freshness and slight crispiness in every bite. Needless to say, we were unable to even think about dessert! There is a sequel to this restaurant story. Our dining experience had been so outstanding that we returned for our last meal on the day of our departure. Since we had to brace ourselves for the ordeal of our trip back to Canada, we each ordered another one of those Mules. For the second time, I had the delicious Elder Mule. For lunch, my husband ordered the Caesar Salad that he had regretted skipping at our earlier dinner, and I ordered the Creamy Crab Soup that had caught my eye. My husband said that his salad was "everything that one would expect from a proper Caesar." I could hardly pay attention because my soup ... well .... awesome and so delightfully crab-filled! If you are a seafood chowder fan and you ever get a chance to eat here, please do not skip this!! Perfectly seasoned, chunky and creamy at the same time, if I ever go back to Savannah, this will be the first food I eat if I can manage it. Crystal Beer Parlor has been on my food list for Savannah since before our last visit, but it wasn't until I screwed up and didn't note the taco place was closed on Sundays that we ended up there. They are known for their burgers, and rightfully so. I got the classic with Pimento. Every ingredient was so fresh, the burger wonderfully seasoned with crispy edges, the bun soft and decadent but not overwhelming. The pimento was melty and gooey and stretchy and really set the burger off, though I think any choice of cheese would be wonderful. Easily one of the 5 best burgers I've had, anywhere. My husband had the bison burger with bacon & bleu cheese and said the same about his. We're from Virginia and with the local fame of She Crab Soup, we had to try their crab stew. It was much lighter than the VA She Crab but just as flavorful. Served with a little cup of what we assume was sherry to drizzle on top, adding a little extra depth to the flavor. The fried green tomatoes were simple, but really lovely with the horseradish sauce. The fries were so fresh and crispy, though sadly I was so full I wasn't able to make much of a dent in them. I could have used a LITTLE more crunch to the onion rings, personally, but the onions were cooked well and the breading was flavorful. Service was great. It was a Sunday night and while they were not completely packed, the servers definitely had their hands full in the large outdoor tent set up for Covid dining. Best (and cheapest) dinner during our Savannah vacation. Started with the ginormous pretzel which was fantastic. Couldn't stop eating it. And for dinner, some of the best fried shrimp and oysters I've had. Really quality food with incredibly friendly service. This place was hopping, even for a Wednesday at 6 pm, so we had to wait a good 30 minutes before sitting. But well worth it! We will be back for sure! read more

I've been here twice now, this is certainly one of the better places to enjoy in Savanah. Located outside the more traveled areas of downtown, the location reminds me of an old house remodeled into a very spacious restaurant. Indoor dining is cozy and slightly romantic, even though there is a sizeable bar that stretches across the length of the indoor dining area. Outdoor dining is located underneath one of those massive tents providing a spacious area to enjoy on nice weather days. Service was super friendly and attentive, and our meals - from the appetizer to the main dish, to the friend pound cake for dessertvwas awesome. (I highly recommend the Bowl O' Soul!) Tried the Service Brewing Disco Crush (pic on left) and Etowah RB&B (right). Appetizer of fried green tomatoes is a must try! We loved it! We all had shrimp n grits and it was the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. The grits were much fluffier than I have ever had before. Finally made it! There was a 35 minute wait but we were able to sit at the bar. Great service. I had the Mountain Jam burger and homemade chips. Food was fantastic. I'm kicking myself for not getting a picture of my burger. My companion had the chef salad and it was enormous. Amazing selection of beer. A really unique place with so much history. The crab stew was very rich and flavorful, the seafood platter was cooked great and was a great size portion. We also tried the Neptune dip it was ok but I would try something different next time. Good atmosphere! Very good burger: cooked to *perfection* and juicy and flavorful. Bun was good (but nothing to write home about). Everyone raved about the onion rings and they were good, with a breading that reminded me of fried catfish, but not quite as crunchy as I like them, so I'll probably pass on those next time (the sweet potato fries looked GREAT though!). We ordered an iced tea and a local beer: the iced tea was HUUUUGE, ha, but the beer - this was the *best* amber I've ever tasted. Caramely, maybe a little chocolatey - I am not a beer drinker but I fully agreed with the great beer aficionado with me: this is one of the best ambers *ever.* It's hard to decide where to eat in Savannah with all the choices, but I think - especially if we're craving burgers - this is a good bet, and a great place to kick back in a nice booth for an hour or so after a lot of walking around town! read more
