Service started good but then they got busy and he didn't ever come back to check on us much. I'm not sure why their server was waiting on 2 completely different ends of the restaurant. The cocktail was super weak (beer probably would have had more ABV %). The burger was delicious so that was the only saving grace (there is an upcharge for cheese and bacon). They didn't give us chips with the burger like they were supposed to. We asked for a side of cheese grits and they gave us that Instead of the chips but we were charged for it. Woah! What I hidden gem in Bryan County. Similar to the Wyld, but much more seating and options when it gets chilly (or so it looks). Tons of options for food, which is great for groups of people with different taste. The service is lovely, you can tell management does a good job training staff. Parking can be tricky, but it looks like you can park across the strew in the marina parking lot. My fav place to sit is at the bar for better views, but any seat is a good seat. read more

First off our waitress continuously served my husband, sweet tea instead of unsweet tea which he had ordered. My salad was served to me with no dressing and she promised to bring it right back 10 minutes later, I had to flag down a waitress for another table. I love this style of drink but found their version to be a bit bitter. I didn't enjoy. BLACKENED MAHI was good. It was a little dry. It could have used a sauce. They served it with side of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. I didn't find either sauce to be a good pairing. SHRIMP POBOY was good, but not spectacular. It too was dry as it surprisingly had no sauce. Shrimp was tender. GLUTEN FREE - any of the grilled options available gluten free. Tucked away on Wilmington Island, Flying Fish Bar & Grill is a locals favorite. It's a sports bar seafood grill, that has indoor and outdoor seating, with tons of options to choose from. I cannot believe I have lived on this side of town for over 2 years, and this was my first time at this restaurant! We were so indecisive on what appetizer to get since there were so many that sounded good. We opted for the Shrimp Queso Dip, and it did not disappoint. Too many chips, not enough dip! We both ended up with the Harbor Master Sandwich (which is not what my boyfriend ordered, but it was his next option so we didn't say anything). This is a fried Mahi sandwich, smothered in buffalo sauce, served with crinkle cut fries. The fries were perfectly crispy and salty, and the sandwich blew us both away! It tasted fresh and flavorful. My only complaint was the house made bloody mary. It tasted like pickles, although the garnish was 1 single okra, 1 lemon & 1 lime (also disappointing). Also, we saw another table get the hot bread & cheese and the cheese was a very small portion -- we were glad we skipped on that one. I wrote earlier we got a meal we didn't order. The waitress did not write anything down, and had to confirm our orders 2-3 times because she kept forgetting. She was pleasant and brought out orders to our table quickly though. There were 8 of us and it didn't take long to get our food. I ordered the flounder and I believe it is the best I've ever had. Flaky, lightly panko-battered. Not only was it delicious, the portions were very generous. I received two large pieces of fish and all for $20. The fries were excellent and I really enjoyed the slaw. But for the past couple times we've been there has been something disappointing, so we will not be going back anymore. The fish tacos are some poorly made, basic frozen fish stick with some cold cheese and your basic "taco night" at home topping. Never order the fish tacos. And then last time we went the margaritas tasted like they had no tequila in it. Just tasted like the margarita mix. So we asked our server if we could just get a little bit more tequila. Server came back and said the manager said they pour to the line on the cup and that we can buy an extra shot. Understandable I guess. But we will never be buying drinks there again. One, because they are watered down. And two, just because we will not be going back here ever again. Sorry flying fish, I wanted to love you. I just can't do it anymore. This place was definitely better than Paula Deen's Creek House, but not by much, with two exceptions. We started with the fried crab claws which included a remoulade sauce. Entrees were blackened shrimp with baked potato and slaw and fried flounder with baked potato and tomato salad. Claws were the first exception. Over a pound of them with an excellent remoulade sauce. Pig out on these babies! 4/5. Blackened shrimp arrived lukewarm and they were grilled not blackened. Shrimp were too small for the price of the entree. 2/5 Flounder arrived lukewarm and in a soggy batter. My wife said she liked the fish but I could tell, like me, that she wasn't too impressed. A lot of fish but I could tell they were not fresh. 2/5 Spuds were also lukewarm. Slaw and tomato salad good but nothing special. 2.5 The other exception was our server, Susannah. Just got back from having lunch at the Flying Fish. My wife and I just bought a house on Wilmington Island and have started to check out the local bars and restaurants. As we're from Miami, this place definitely reminded us of places in the Florida Keys. My wife ordered the shrimp & grits dinner for $17.95, and I ordered a selection of side dishes (fries, hush puppies, tomato salad, & corn on the cob) at $2.50 each. I also ordered a couple of bottles of beer (Yuengling & Red Stripe) for an extremely reasonable $4 each. On a scale of 1-5, the food is a mediocre 3. My wife reported her meal as "so-so" and my side dishes were definitely hit or miss. The fries and hush puppies were very good, but the corn was a mushy inedible mess. The tomato salad, while good, was served in a small plastic cup that was only slightly bigger than a jello shot cup. Now you may be wondering why given the above, my rating is 4 stars. Well simply put, the service by Dalton was great, the beers were ice cold and reasonably priced, and just the "island vibe" of the place warrants the additional star. While I wouldn't recommend Flying Fish based on the food alone, it is definitely a place worth visiting for the drinks and the atmosphere. And although I wouldn't make a special trip just to eat here, I would definitely grab a bite to eat while I'm having a drink or two and enjoying the island vibe. read more

I've been wanting to go here for a few years and I was very underwhelmed. Our server was so sweet and great at first, but after she took our order, we didn't see her until right before we got the check. We needed some other sauce, and we DEFINITELY NEEDED some lemons because they didn't give us any at all. You would think a SEAFOOD JOINT would give you lemons with every fried seafood meal you got, nope not at all. And we didn't see our server until we were both almost done with our meals. We tried to wait but she took forever. And on top of that, the sides were SO BLAND! NO SEASONING WHATSOEVER! Not even salt and pepper.
