Also: I was immediately greeted gently by several technicians. I was immediately seated and attended to (lots of "immediately" only because they are true). The pedicure was GREAT; the massaging chair was better than most. The shop wasn't busy; it was quiet. As I was being serviced, I watched women who looked serious about their upkeep walk into and out of the shop; I grew increasingly confident in my choice. So confident? I decided to take a chance on getting my facial hair waxed. My technician NAILED (heh) both services. I left a hefty tip, yet? I went to Crystal Spa & Nails today for a pedicure and a dip manicure. I had never had a "dip manicure". I decided to get one since I am traveling for the next couple of weeks. I would say the pedicure was average. While the person was doing my nails, she filed my nails so hard and around the corners of my nails started burning. After rinsing my hands in water, it felt like they were on fire! She left my fingers raw and extremely painful! This is very upsetting. Needless to say, it's worrisome that they are so raw, tender and hoping not to get an infection. I would advise not to go to this nail salon. The manager is the only person that you can communicate with since most employees do not speak english. read more

This nail salon opened recently in the same shopping center as Tatte Bakery in Rockville. I booked an appointment for the first time to get a builder gel manicure and regular pedicure, and I had a great experience. The interior is clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. The technician who did my pedicure and manicure was polite and took her time. She was very detail oriented and both my mani and pedi turned out great! 3.5 stars since it's too technician dependent but I simply cannot risk it again. TLDR; tech skills and efforts vary wildly, you don't always get who you booked online. If you become a regular of one of the skilled techs you'll be fine. I got the most damaging gel x manicure I've ever had from Claudia. I've been to this salon several times now and typically only go when I want gel x for vacation. I've had some notable bad experiences but since the gel x manicure is decent enough I didn't bother reviewing. But after my most recent visit getting gel-x I won't be back. Let the picture of my nails growing out after removal tell you everything you need to know. Since coming here I've experienced a pedicure that was basically like wetting my feet and getting my toes painted, having to have Jill fix a nail design, and eventually walking out of an appt where I hadn't been acknowledged for over 20min. TLDR: go for the mani, skip the pedi. I've gotten regular, dip, and gel manicures there since they opened. Nothing bad to say about those - in fact, they're some of the best manicures in the area. The techs always check step by step to ensure you like everything and double-check that you like the color, etc. The price can't be beat, and the chill vibe in there remains great. That said, the pedicure service has slipped considerably and is notably inconsistent. I love a "lava hot" shower but usually pedicure water is too hot for me at most places...but the last 2 times I got pedicures there, the water was tepid at BEST, and frankly the skin on my feet looked worse after (dry/crusty dusty - and I moisturize and butter my feet every day). Having to go behind work the day after paying for a service is disheartening. The tech/manager was quick to moisturize/oil (which wasn't done after the pedicure) when I spoke up, but I noticed that two other customers who were getting pedis from other techs had to speak up about shape being wrong, cutting being too deep, and more. They were given gift certificates for a free re-do in the future, but RIGHT after the customers left, the techs all erupted in a discussion of what had happened (in front of clients who they thought didn't understand what they were saying). That conversation should have been had in the back/lunch room. I would take pictures of my pedi but online pics last forever lolllll. Also, the last 3 times I've been, there's no more hot tea available, so they should remove that from their ads/marketing. read more

Had a great first experience here. I've been searching high and low for nail salons that do gel x nails in my area and found Crystal Spa online. The reviews looked good so I decided to give them a try ahead of a much needed and anticipated vacation. I booked an appointment online with no issues. I'm pretty sure the person I booked with wasn't a actually the person who did my nails, so if you like a particular nail tech, I would call to book your appointment rather than schedule though their online system. I was lucky to be able to go early on a weekday. There were a few other customers when I arrived, but the salon was quiet and calm and very clean! I was seated right away and immediately felt relaxed due to their amazing massage chairs at the pedicure station. I got a classics pedicure and gel x manicure. The woman who did my nails took her time and did an excellent job! They had the colors I needed to achieve the design I wanted, and the price was reasonable and comparable to other salons I've visited. I believe this is a New Place in Rockville. For me it's a good nail place with. Great price. I just wish there would be more communication through out the service. I have some add-ons on my regular gel, I just wish they would have mentioned the add on price to me. It's not a bad price overall but I would like to know what I am expecting. My first time today. I love this place. The place felt cozy, clean, inviting. Summer was gentle and skilled. Scheduled an appointment for a gel manicure. Called before coming because I knew I'd be a few minutes late because of traffic. The woman I spoke with on the phone insured they had nothing scheduled under my name, but to come anyway. Got to the shop and nothing. Just sat for 30 minutes and wasn't able to get anything done. This is by far the worst nail experience I have ever had. I made an appointment online with Kiki after reading reviews that she was good, which I always do before booking an appointment with somebody. I showed up on time and said I had an appointment at 1 with Kiki. I was given somebody who took approximately 15 to 20 minutes just to buff the dip off of my nails to prime them for soaking (a practice which, in my experience of years of getting dip usually takes about 5 min). After leaving my nails to soak in the foil for 10 minutes, nothing had happened and they then had to re-file them down again and re-start the process. This should have been when I realized they were using me for some training experiment for someone instead of the appointment I had booked. There were three people all working on this process all of whom seemed new to it. I asked for a certain type of color in a photograph. They debated how to accomplish it, and finally somebody came out of the back who seemed knowledgeable and advised them. My entire dip nail process took approximately one hour and 40 minutes. I left with cuts on every single finger with completely uneven lengths completed different shapes and coloring by somebody who clearly was in training, and did not know what she was doing. She was very nice and apologetic every time she caught herself cutting me repeatedly. I honestly felt terrible for her. Some of my nails are flattened down and bowed upward with indents in them. At the end, I asked her to clarify again, whether she was in fact, well who she was supposed to be "Kiki" at which time she admitted that no, she was not. When I said that was who I had I was supposed to have an appointment with she smiled and asked me to pay. The only thing positive I can say is that I was given a free tip addition for my one very short nail. The person I believe to be the owner or at the very least, the manager sat there the entire time next to her, knowing very well that she had no idea what she was doing and just allowed it. For this, I just threw my money down the drain, am covered in cuts on each finger stinging every time I wet my hands. read more

I had high hopes for this salon based on the decently good reviews. I booked online, which was easy and preferred over having to call in. I made an appointment with Jesmine for dip nails. She frantically filed down the previous dip, rather than just the top coat and soaking off the rest. 5 of my fingers were burned and I was covered in dip dust and chips! Then she soaked off the bit that remained and when she went to rough up the nail bed, burned more nails! I asked her to slow down and she replied that my natural nails were thin and that's why I was being burned. I've been getting dip nails for at least 10 years and I have never been burned that many times or covered in that much dust. The dip was not applied to the edges of all my nails and several were filed weird and inconsistent with the others. I came back a few days later and I assume it was the manager who fixed 5 of my nails. When I tried to tell her about my experience, she suggested I go elsewhere next time. Ha!
