Before finding Amber Door, I was hopping from salon to salon for years, because I couldn't find someone to do the designs I wanted. So I researched nail places in the area and found this place. I was impressed with their pictures, so I decided to reach out. I was instructed to text a picture of what I wanted and told they were able to do so. When I got to the salon today, they said the exact picture was cost a lot due to the number of colors it required. I wish they had told me ahead of time because I was forced to figure out something on the spot. Let me explain that I did say I wanted plain pink glitter polish when I was first told I couldn't have the original idea without a high cost. Again, I wish I knew that before I got there. There was also a lot of miscommunication and I was accused of changing my mind last minute, when I had informed my nail tech about 15 minutes into the appointment while she removed the dip polish I had on, that wanted to stick to the original idea with fewer colors. We then discussed it further after she completely prepped my nails. Never said I wanted plain cat eye polish. I just wish they were a bit more friendly and understanding. It left me uncomfortable and a bit unsatisfied. I really couldn't decide on the spot another nail idea. The next client was there, so I left without ensuring my nails were correct. I got the cat eye polish, which is very shiny. Two of my nails don't look as shiny as the others, and my hands look different compared to one another. One side is more blended than the other, while the other is more shiny. It ended up looking very cool minus the few errors. Helen did an amazing job shaping my nails and making them even! Despite the differences, I really love how they turned out. I just wish they all had the same amount of shine and were blended the same. I also feel as someone else mentioned that there needs to be more clarity in pricing as well. I definitely don't think the price was worth it given my nails are so different in terms of shine - the whole purpose of the cat eye polish. read more

I had a pretty good experience here. About my nail technician? So I noticed that Fang doesn't have any reviews in Vagaro (their booking app) and I tried looking her up in other Yelp reviews but didn't find anything. I'm assuming she's new, so I thought I'd help fellow yelpers... she did a great job on my gel manicure and regular pedicure. I liked that she was slow and careful because for me, it has been almost 2 years since being in a nail salon I wasn't ready to get cut on my first time back. She took her time and I really appreciated that she didn't nick me at all. The only thing I can say I had an issue with is communicating to her what I wanted. I would like to suggest that she give future clients a little bit of time to choose and not feel so rushed. Going in I had an idea but didn't really see any examples of designs that I could pick from. It would've been cool if she asked if I wanted any designs with my gel manicure. They mostly had color samples. The colors I had picked ended up too light and she went ahead and made better choices for me that worked out....so I was happy. How are my nails holding up? @ about 4 days so far the gel is holding up, there's no lifting or unusual marks on my gel. I think my nails are growing quickly so it already looks like I need a fill in.. **gel ended up lasting at least 3 weeks, which is the longest gel has lasted for me without chipping or peeling. Since my nails grow quickly, they prolly could've went longer if I hadn't picked at them. Cost? I paid 45$ for my nails (gel mani?) and 55$ for (reg polish pedi). The nail salon itself? No massage chairs which I didn't mind. Ambiance, very quiet and there are signs to let clients know to be respectful of the volume and amount of chatter. Brian said he has been doing nails for 12 years and it really shows in how efficient and meticulous he is. My only downside this visit is that I wanted some gems / jewels / gold accents on some of the plain nails but he did not understand what I was saying at all and brought out gold nail polish instead, so I just said it was fine to leave them plain.. I am extremely disappointed with how long my nails lasted. The nails came out soooooo beautiful! There was also $5 off for gel nails. However, the first day, my thumb chipped and the nail polish lifted on the tip of my nail. I called the salon and made a appointment to have my nails fixed. They removed and repainted my thumb which chipped. But for the nail that lifted, they used nail glue and glued the nail the lifted part and applied another layer of top coat. I was shocking to me, that they didn't completely repaint the nail. After 1 week, pretty much very nail has lifted. I'm so disappointed, not what I expected from a luxury nail salon. Completely waste of $40. Normally, when I get gel polish is last 2-3 weeks. My experience in store was really good. They took my temperature when I arrived. Then I was asked to wash my hands and taken in the back room to have my nails done by Journey or Alisa Lu. There was a big piece of plastic between the nail tech and I. Everyone wore a face mask inside. My nails also came out sooo Beautiful! I think the main problem is that the tips of my nails were not sealed. At the end, when my nails were done, she started to file my nail again. I was a bit confused and it probably did help my nails last. I definitely won't be coming back here. read more

Let me start with I LOVE my nails by Janee. After moving from out of state and struggling to find a great nail tech, she's amazing. She works with me for designs and nail health. My issue stems from the pricing and business acumen. Now I'm one that believes in paying for great work. I'll say just in general, they're pricy but Janee is worth it. However, this particular time I got a design and was charged DOUBLE. Designs are usually $15 (this is reflected online) but this last time the person who rang me up coyly asked to see my nails, charged me THIRTY dollars for the design alone, and then when I inquired about it, had no reason why this was double the price. A refill was already $70 and at this point, it felt like a money grab. Especially because over the last few months, this has never happened and they've seen the designs Janee has done in the past. It's like they're picking and choosing when to pull $$$ out of the air. I LOVE Janee. So I'll be back to specifically to work with her, but if she ever leaves, this client is going with her. *Update* Added a star for the prompt response from the owner. After complaining to my coworker about my nails never lasting as long and feeling rushed at the nail place, she introduced me to Amber Day Spa. It's near Quickfire and Le Lavanderie. Beach, pool and work life tired my poor feet. Margie was my nail lady and took care of me. I chose milk and honey pedi and it is expensive but definitely worth it. In the water tub was the milk & honey mixture. It really soften my legs and feet. My whole pedi experience was soothing and relaxing. They have a no cellphone policy for that reason. The nail polish selections are a step above the cheap shit. They use a earth friendly polish, which is good for the environment and for you. As for the service, A+. I have been searching for a salon like this for so long. The salon itself is wonderfully chic and relaxing -- perfect balance of inviting with upscale that just feels wonderful. You can make and revise your appointment online through the Vagaro app which is awesome, specifically selecting all of your services and even the tech you would like to see for each. I had to call to change my appointment last minute and felt terrible -- they were so understanding, even when I STILL showed up late to my new appointment time! I have been treated with such rudeness by salons in the past (in this area) that left me feeling absolutely terrible about being late or needing to cancel due to health or family issues. Not the case here. As for the services? In a word: perfection. Alyssa worked on my toes for an hour and my nails for two. I showed her a photo for my nail extension and design. I don't like chunky, thick nails and it's been almost impossible to find a place that doesn't do acrylics that way, and if they do I've kind of had bad experiences feeling like I am annoying the tech by asking for that style. Not the case with Alyssa (or anyone in this salon, from what I gather!) the nail extensions are done with hard gel which is amazing, and the design is dainty and exactly what I was hoping for. They look better than the photo! I'm pretty low maintenance and don't get mani/pedis often but ever now and then it is nice to splurge. We were on vacation visiting family and my sister-in-law found this place on yelp. Very nice spot to relax and get pampered. It's more of a spa environment than a regular nail salon. They try to be environmentally conscious so no annoying acrylic smell as you walk through the door. Janee did such a good job. She was meticulous and her foot massage has me almost snoring. Janee was extra careful and even put on my flip flops and toe spacers before painting my nails. I've never had a spa do this before. It's a great idea though because trying to put on your flip flops afterwards is always a struggle. 8/31/19 Lana was my nail Technician today. Ever since this new salon opened it's doors in the new Rockville Town Center, I have been meaning to try it out. This place was also theee dallors cheaper and had more technicians how could cater to clients need than just one person in the the whole store... I was greeted by a sister who had the looks to have some Asian and African American decent in her. I don't see this two offten so it's very nice to see. She called over someone to assist me, because she was working on someone ed else. The store owner is obviously inspired by Audrey Hepburn. There is a picture of Audrey Hepburn and her motto posted on the entrance wall. The spa is nicely stylized in white and black. The look reminds me of one other salon I visited, but not as busy as this salon. At the time I went to the salon, I was the only client there (from what I saw) who wasn't Asian. Still, after some talking in their native language, Lana showed up after her name was called several times. Sitting in the last booth near the long hallway where the wax, massage and bathrooms are, Lana opened up a new pack of tools. I like this, because I don't see this to offten. The nail filer was even new too. The last place I was at, the nail technician used a nail filer the was used on me before she threw it out after me. I will be asking for a new nail filer going forwards. Looking around, I thought about moving back to Maryland, but I also thought about Seattle and Canada too. These thoughts crossed my mind as Lana worked on.my nails. Amber Door Day Spa did a decent job even if it takes me 20 minutes to drive to this location. The reception was super cold and my nails were pretty meh. My gel manicure chipped in less than 2 weeks (9 days to be precise), which is unusual for me. From what I could see though, the lady who does nail art is good at elaborate designs--like the type you see in magazines. I haven't seen anybody in-person around here do what she was doing so if you're into that this place might be worth checking out. The conditions seemed sanitary.
