Good meal, a little skimpy for dinner and the amount of things on the menu that were sold out makes me a little suspicious about this restaurant. I got the main dish I wanted, but I wanted other things that were sold out and it made no sense. I haven't seen that anywhere else. Probably 50% of the menu was sold out including my mango with sticky rice dessert. That should be a staple! Anyway I got the Crystal Thai Seafood and it was really good and flavorful and not spicy as requested. Lots of shrimp, calamari, mussels and a few scallops. It was good but again pretty small for the price. I might try again in the future but only if the majority of the items aren't sold out. That, frankly is the reason for the lower rating. read more

Not a bad experience. My daughter wanted Thai food for dinner and the place we usually go to is a little bit far away so decided to give Crystal Thai a chance. It was on a weekday evening and it was not too crowded so I was easy to find a parking space in the shared lot. It was located in a Strip mall type of center. It is very small inside but cozy. A very nice hostess/waitress seated us and took our drink orders. They do not have a liquor license so only nonalcoholic beverages. Looks like all of their sodas are in cans so they do run out. My daughter wanted a Sprite, but Since they did not have any, she had to settle for a ginger ale. I ordered a lemonade. For my daughter's meal she ordered the scallop fried rice. She also ordered some of these shrimp spring rolls. They were delicious light and crispy. I like the fact that they did not have a lot of oil on them. Overall, it was not a bad option for Thai food in the area. My daughter enjoyed it, but still prefers the other place more. The service was good, although it was a little bit slow. The food here is ok. If you want Thai in a pinch, this is an ok spot. Owings Mills/Pikesville/Reisterstown doesn't have much offering when it comes to authentic Thai. I ordered the pad Thai with extra sauce and the salmon, red curry, and it was not even average. You could tell that the salmon is frozen salmon and it was cut up into small pieces and the sauce was very watery and very sweet unpleasant and sweetness like they added so people can like it. The pad tie the noodles were not cooked. The sauce was tasteless with fish sauce and soybsauce and sugar, and it was just very wasteful of my money to spend 45 $46. I don't think I'll be returning here again because they seem to have a change in management and the quality of the food is just very low. read more

We got there and was a bit skeptical because it was empty. But by the time we left there was quite a bit of patrons! Also, it seems to be bigger on takeout which is fine . The portions are generous. The shrimp are huge, the beef and chicken are very lean. The sauces are tasty and everything was carefully packaged. This was our first order and we'll be back! It seems as if the liquid was chalky, and it was too salty. A favorite of my family. Recently visited for a birthday dinner. The Pad Thai is authentic and warms the soul. Also the fried calamari is surprisingly flavorful, crunchy, and not too chewy. I took a gamble on it because I ONLY order fried calamari at Italian restaurants ( I've been disappointed in the past when trying calamari of another cuisines.) The dish comes with a lot of veggies which is a nice touch and they do add a nice amount of kick to the dish but overall I just felt like the food was average. This place is hidden and I've never seen it before. It was convenient so I gave it a shot. Ordered the dumplings and loved them. Then chose the Tom Ka (shrimp) soup and that was delicious. The broth was perfect. Now it's time for the main attraction. Panang Curry Chicken strutted across my mind and glad I noticed it. (I didn't get it extra spicy) This dish was the star. I also added pork fried rice to the dish. My white rice was put in the corner with Baby. Dropped in for lunch on Thursday for some quick Thai food. Ordered a Thai Iced Tea and Ginger Chicken with Veggie Soup. The Thai Iced Tea was made with a bit too much sweetened condensed milk, which I later learned was simply half and half. We adjusted the proportions to, like, 1/3 milk vs. the previous 2/3, and that worked fine. I'm not sure if more Thai restaurants are Americanizing their Thai Iced tea lately, or if my palate is changing, and my limited sugar approach to food lately is working? Also, since I have yet to visit Thailand yet myself, is Thai Iced Tea even truly Thai? Someone who knows please correct / inform me - I welcome your insight. While ordinarily I would order pad see ew, pad kee mao, or panang curry, my stomach was feeling a bit queasy this day, so I ordered the ginger chicken - it was good. Pretty good but not "out of this world" good. The atmosphere is cozy but kind of lame and cheap. It is BYOB which is nice! It's the only Thai I know of in the Owning's Mills area so I go back often. I always get chicken curry and an order of gyoza. read more

I gave this place a try pushing the not so great reviews aside as I saw several ppl walk in for take out as I sat in my car deciding. The young woman who created, sat me and took my order was very pleasant. I ordered Tom Kha w/ veggies It was around $9. It came out looked to have been microwaved it was a pretty small bowl of soup. I get Tom Kha whenever I see it in a menu and this was by far the most bizarre. There were little chunks and slivers of lemongrass and huge slices of galangal. I have never experienced them being left in the soup. There was very little broth making it more of a chowder experience. I also ordered the drunken noodles (level 3 spicy ) with veggies. While the heat was right on the dish has zero flavor otherwise. ZERO. The experience was oil and spice heat. I asked for soy sauce to give it something. I don't like to waste food so I didn't send either back but I would not try this restaurant again. read more

3/27/14 After getting my car from my parents' house after coming back from the airport I needed FOOD ASAP!! This place is a little down the ways from my apt and they have great lunch specials. I hadn't been there in over a year or so I wanted to try things out again. This time I did carry out. I was able to find parking right in front in the busy parking lot. I went in an placed my order and waiting in my car for about 10 mins checking work VM. Once I headed back in my order was ready and I paid and was on my way. Once I got home I saw that they were some fried wontons in the bag. Added bonus! Not the best that I have had but none the less FREE! I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken! I generally don't like writing bad reviews but felt I'd be doing the community a disservice if I did not. We didn't mind the 40 min. wait as long as food was good, but we were so disappointed with everything we got. Som Tum was bland, tasted like shredded papaya, tomatoes and pepper flakes. Same with the beef salad, plain boiled beef with pepper flakes. I could've overlooked how thick the beef was sliced had it not been for the lack of flavor. The Yum woon sen tasted like plain boiled pieces of chicken and boiled noodles with red pepper flakes and little else. They didn't even take the time to slice up the mangos properly in the mango sticky rice. This was the most disappointing Thai food we've had in a very long time. read more

Whoa whoa whoa! How did this place only score a 3.5? The food is AMAZING. I'm a Thai food snob (having been spoiled by terrific Thai food on the West coast) and I was blown away by the food here. At first I was hesitant to try this place, but the next closest Thai restaurant appeared to be 10 miles away (literally!) and we were too tired to make that drive. It had been a really long week for me and my mom. We were visiting a relative in the hospital and were emotionally exhausted. We ordered the pad thai with chicken, fresh garlic and black pepper beef stir-fry (which looked rather unappetizing and bland on the picture, but we ordered it anyway) and chicken panang curry. The quality of the ingredients and flavor were on point for all three dishes. The garlic and pepper beef stir fry (served on top of fresh broccoli) was hands-down our favorite. The beef was tender and packed with flavors, and the broccoli balanced the flavor well. We finished the chicken panang curry down to the last drop. The pad thai didn't disappoint either (we had to order it after reading Lori B's review). In short, delicious meal, cute home-y atmosphere (as in home-like, not "Whatsup homie?"), and friendly service (our waiter did forget to bring us our pot of jasmine tea, but quickly remedied it apologetically). If you've been before and didn't like this place .... go back!! Owners and chef have changed. I think it's the best Thai you can find in the county. I was always embarrassed to walk in for carry-out - there were always more staff than customers. Last time I went there was a line waiting for tables and my order took more than 30 minutes to prepare. No complaints here - it is well deserved! I am glad to see that news has spread and they are busy. Try any of the salads. I like the Larb Kai (with minced chicken) and the Nam Sod (with minced pork). The Tom Ka soup is the best I've found in Baltimore - great flavor with just the right mix of heat, sour and richness. Must get: Spicy Eggplant entree. It's really ground pork with eggplant and garlic. I need to go back and try more selections (and perhaps try a Thai dessert). read more

My wife and I love this place and we can't eat here enough. The steamed pork dumplings are perfect, you have to try them. My wife will only order the Massaman Curry, which is fine with me because it's so damn good. I've ordered the Green Curry, which is very nice and has a little kick to it and the Drunken Noodles are very good. My favorite is the Thai Red Curry, I would get it every time but I feel the need to explore the menu. The staff is always nice, quick, and attentive. Been here a few times and always get the Chicken Pad Thai which is very good. Generally it comes non-spicy but you can ask to make it spicy on a level from 1-5, I usually do a 1 or 2 which is pretty spicy for me so I can't imagine what a 5 would be like, but that's your call. The restaurant is never super busy, the food is pretty good & no complaints about the service either. read more
