I walked into CSL for my regular donation today. When I was called to the screening window, I politely asked the technician if she could please prick the side of my finger. She completely ignored my request. This particular technician is consistently the only one who doesn't make eye contact or smile, and she is noticeably the least friendly person there. She squeezed my fingertip and proceeded to prick me directly in the middle of my finger--right where the nerve receptors are--and it genuinely hurt. I even flinched. I explained that I had been eating a hot breakfast sandwich and was trying to cool my mouth down. Instead of offering a simple solution when I brought the sandwich situation to her attention before the screening, she proceeded to take my temperature rather than giving me the basic courtesy of directing me to the drinking fountain and waiting a few minutes before taking my temperature. The whole experience felt unnecessarily rushed because the center wasn't busy at the time and there was no line in the screening area when I walked in aside from two other people. The thermometer read 99 degrees. Mind you, I was not sick and had just come from work. I explained again that I had just eaten a fresh, hot sandwich. (Which was in my hand! In the wrapper, of course, I don't leave messes) When I brought this to the manager's attention, both she and the technician were so quick to dismiss me, telling me, "it doesn't matter." Thanks to this technician's negligence, I am now not eligible to donate here or at any other competitor's company plasma donation center, which is extremely frustrating and disappointing. I left visibly and audibly upset because I'm tired of the cold treatment I receive from certain techs. I understand they deal with difficult people, but I am always polite, clear, and respectful. I wish the same courtesy was given in return. I do want to recognize Angela, Miracle, and Monesha--and anyone else I may be forgetting. Your positive attitudes and the way you treat donors with dignity truly stand out and make a huge difference. very mean manager and staff member. I'm a RN for 30 years. I sat up at the end of plasma I fusion cause i had a pai in my lower back ! I was yelled at from across the room by a young black female with 5 inch eyelashes telling me to lye back down the. as I tried to explain she called security telling them I would not listen and the. called the manager and at that point had my anxiety level skyrocket as she continued to aggressively attack me ! I explained to the manager that the verbal abuse was not nessessary and I was ignored and threatened I would not be able to come back if I kept it up !!! This happened on Sunday May 3. I went back today and was again insulted and abused when handed a demand letter addressed to my physician that I will not be allowed to donate unless the "back" issue was explained. I have no chronic back issue I was just uncomfortable and now I have retaliation which only makes my life more difficult. I had another nurse go here and they would not look up his social security number to help him. Today is my third visit and I'm now more comfortable coming here. I learned it's better to arrive either 15 minutes before they open or 30 mins after. Doing this eliminates waiting time. From the time I arrived this morning, to doing pre-tests and then actually starting the donation process took 10 minutes. Then it's about 45 mins for the plasma to be extracted. Since I had Covid-19 back in April and now have the antibody, I'm saving a life. read more

First off, let me start that the only reason we came to donate plasma was due to the misleading $700 sign out front. when we went inside and started the entire process. We soon learned that this location only offered $400 and that was with five donations. So we started off feeling very misled. The initial appointment took about three hours which we were not expecting. My donation itself went pretty well. My husband's however, did not. the nurse who was in charge of his blood draw blew his vein and then said it was his fault for moving. Mind you, my husband has donated throughout the years and is never had an issue. From that day on he didn't care to come back. since my donation wasn't bad I came for my second time today. I told the person drawing my blood that I am very sensitive to needles and to please not bring any attention to the area as I have been known to pass out in the past. He said no problem and inserted the needle without any issues. I did notice right away that the area was incredibly painful, which was not my experience the first time. after that three separate people started looking at the machine like something was wrong. About 10 minutes later he comes back and I told him about people looking at the machine and asked if everything was OK. I then told him if he had to redo it to please just let me leave because I wouldn't do well. He did not listen and started pushing the needle in further. I immediately started feeling nauseous. He asked me if I was OK and I told him about my nausea. He just walked away. Luckily another attendant saw that I wasn't doing well and was able to help with ice packs and Gatorade. I told her that I asked the gentleman to not mess with the needle, and he didn't listen. On top of everything they blew my vein as well. Unprofessional, I came in as a first time donor with my friend, the nurse that was helping us kept asking him if he knew English, and he does, he works with me but the first red flag was he didn't want to accept my friends address, mind you, my friend is my neighbor, in the same building as me, how does my address work and his doesn't? So they didn't want to treat him because of the language barrier even though he understands and can trad english. I feel like he was misjudged because of his accent but not to accept him because of his address was absorb. I didn't complete my donation because I couldn't even talk to any nurse. It would be easy to say bad things about a blood donation place. They are always on the wrong part of town, with some sketchy types hanging out. But this place I had just found for donating, CSL Oakland Park is a little better than that. It's an ok part of town, I used to live nearby and liked the area. The couple times I stopped in there were nice people who were qualified and felt very experienced. The process was very professional. On the first visit there is a free screening involved too that can help a person know if they need more iron in their diet, more vitamin D, etc. despite all the paperwork and screening the whole process really didn't take that much time though. It felt good to be making a contribution that could help someone's life at some point. That is all the more reason to stop back soon hopefully. read more

Today was my second visit. This time I completed the health questionnaire online in order to save time. I arrived around 1:30 and there were only 5 people on line to check in. It went very quickly and a very nice nurse by the name of Craig not only did what he needed to do, but since it seems I forgot to scan my QR code upon arrival, he did that for me. Thanks, Craig. My phlebotomist was Mirca and she was very professional and a very nice person. This visit only took about an hour and a half. The facility was clean and there were no issues. I went on a weekday in the am wasnt busy. I went with a friend who goes there the whole thing was less then an hr. The place was clean. Im giving it a 3 because i was told by 2 ppl i couldnt donate because my veins were to small. Im 5ft 1in 112lbs im a small but healthy female. My rent was just Increased $300 a month At the signing of a new lease which I had no choice because I don't have first last security to get into another place It's $50 for the donation which I was hoping for to pay my phone bill. So yes I was a little bent after I was told I couldn't donate because my veins are too small. I have donated before but never like that It was on one of those buses that they had during blood drives And yes some nurses have had a problem getting my blood in the past because my veins are small but I've never had a problem with a phlebotomist Because that's the job is to Collect blood read more

Most of the time I have gone here, it's been a very positive experience. I'm a regular donor. I will say though that the wait times can be very long, so bring a book or something to do. It's important to follow the advice they give. ALWAYS EAT and hydrate before you donate or you can get really sick. I learned this the hard way! The good: They have financial incentives to come more often in a given month. You can only come twice in a 7 day period. If you come for 1 year straight twice a week, you become a gold member and can bypass all of the lines. Just one miss for any reason will cause you to be ineligible to be a gold member (so I have been told). The music is usually the best of the 80's or 90's. They have free internet too. The bad The restrooms are almost in dire need of attention! There is rarely TP and the AC may not be functioning in the women's restroom. I also don't agree with the fact they won't let donors charge their phones even before donating. I'd give those things 1 star if I could. The Ugly My car was vandalized in the parking lot, so make sure to not leave your valuables and lock up. It was minor and I didn't make a report because I assumed it wouldn't make any difference. It'd be nice if they had security cameras for the safety of the donors and employees. The majority of the staff here deserve the 5 stars and are all incredibly courteous, professional and friendly. Those individuals work very hard in the whole plasma donation experience! I want to give a special shot out to the supervisor Suelin. Whenever she works, she's constantly giving praise and everything runs extremely efficiently. Miss Katherine is also very courteous and makes sure the donors receive incentive bonuses. Also to the phlebotomists Kyinte, Robin, Kaldene, Artis and Colin because they are obviously incredibly good at their jobs and keep the donors as comfortable as possible. This location needs to hire more staff or pay better to get properly motivated staff. it's understandable that time needs to be taken to ensure all the proper safety and precaution protocols are in place but the staff is extremely slow and look downright miserable. when upper management is visiting they miraculously are staffed properly. I suggest upper management do a surprise visit to see how poorly this location is run. Proper training should be done to ensure no steps are missed for patient and phlebotomist safety. I have witnessed needles being placed on the table before attempting to insert it and trying to stick a donor before cleaning the site with iodine. I worry for new donors that are familiar with the safety protocols. read more

CSL Plasma is one of those businesses that flies rather low under the commercial radar scope, one that people don't like to talk about and most don't even want to know about. But it has it has its purpose and in its own way provides a vital service. Though it says blood (technically they say plasma) "donation", the word "donation" is just a politically correct nicety, maybe a semantical takeoff from the Red Cross drives because this is not where you donate blood, this is where they buy your blood and where you sell that body part, blood, cash, though for security purposes is given to you in the form of a reloadable debit card. You might think CSL is a small operation and if you ask them here, they'll tell you they are based out of Boca Raton, but that really isn't accurate. In fact it is a part of a huge international corporation with all sorts of global contacts and operations with the parent company with headquarters located in Melbourne, Australia and having some 16,000 full time employees throughout its biotherapeudic network. The particular place really gets packed, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so they wait lines can become rather long and lengthy. The procedure itself takes about an hour and a half to two hours, but plan on spending 3 to 4 hours. You'll also need to have photo ID, social security card and some proof of residency like a water or electric bill. If you don't have those with you, you'll be turned away. If you take the time to talk to the customers here, they are all here for the cash and all of them unfortunately are in need with, sadly, nowhere else to turn. Though their personal life stories differ, the common thread is need and desperation. Though I wasn't here as a customer, but as volunteer driver for a certain not-for-profit social organization, I did get to do a rather thorough check out of their operations, and have come away rather impressed. It's a regular no nonsense business, something akin to a manufacturing line, but the staff are all professionals, know what they are doing and always seem to have a soothing, calming appreciative word to say, that is if the customer is nice. On the other hand, they also know how to take care of anyone who gets out of hand, is rude, uncooperative or combative, as some of the customers here just simply are not the nicest, most decent, honest or cleanest of people. But above all, the place is near sterile in cleanliness. Though my only personal experience is with the Red Cross, a true blood donation, I have to say CSL seemed somewhat better with a staff who seemed to be more experienced and knew better as to exactly what they are doing and how to do it. I went in on Friday afternoon as a first time walk in donor and was treated with the utmost respect. I was quickly given a blue laminated sheet of about 5-6 dual sided papers to read that talked about the donation process, how whole blood is spun in a centrifuge and then plasma collected and red blood cells being returned to your body. Was seated in a small room with two computer monitors to watch a video of a Dr. explaining the process over again and talking about the rare but uncommon complications that could arise. Asked to sit in a confidential room and talked with another service representative talking about what kind of blood donations I have ever done previously and discussing how plasmapheresis process is different from donating whole blood. The center was running a promotional introductory rate that I was eligible for which was very nice and I thought warranted the long lengthy process to introduce me to how it all works. I will be going back today in the afternoon to complete my second donation. All in all, I felt I was treated respectfully and would recommend CSL plasma to anyone who was ever unsure of whether Plasma Donation was right for them. You're only eligible to donate Whole Blood every 56 days, Plasma you can donate 2 times per week. read more

I'm a 2 year customer and I'm furious. What sense does it make to give a donor a bed and wait for twenty minutes to get stuck. The on duty manager Esha is a very nice lady, but is lacking in management experience. I'm ten minutes in my bed and I'm third in line. The sanitary as I speak is a shame.
