I had a really awkward meal at Cubby's while I was in St. George earlier this month. I passed their location while driving to Hurricane several times and I was drawn in because it was a cool sign. The food looked good on the website so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived, the place was completely dead. No one greeted me when I walked in and the staff looked annoyed that I had arrived. I browsed the menu and contemplated leaving because it was just so....awkward. I asked the order taker a question and he flat out said he didn't know the answer and then made no effort to find an answer. The food was just okay. Nothing memorable. Visiting from up north. Did a to-go order tonight on the way back from the gym. Ordered a regular size tri-tip steak salad and got home to absolutely ZERO steak on my salad. I kept digging around thinking maybe the steak was at the bottom and still nothing. Livid because I was starving after a long workout and was looking forward to the protein --and they were closed by the time I got home. The service kills this location. Even the sign up front says "under new management" and that management sucks. We ordered in person last time and waited 45 minutes for our food. Today we tried to beat the wait by placing an online order and waited the same when we were quoted 20 minutes. After waiting in the store for 20 more minutes, they informed us that they were out of the ingredients for one of our items (wild rice for the wild rice and kale salad). Either expect to wait an hour for your food or don't come to this location. We tried the tri tip big dog sandwich and the cockadoodle with rosemary and sweet potato fries. First things first. This is a farm to table establishment and the food is said to be fresh and helping the local farmers. That being said it isn't cheap! High quality ingredients. The staff is amazing! We have both food allergies and intolerances in our group and all of the staff communicated about it. There was an accidental cross contamination with our food and tree nuts and they came and told us that it delayed our burger and that they wanted to make it right. The kids both got T-Rex and enjoyed it, especially the fruit and juice. I got the GF Hamburger which is also DF and soy free. They offered salads but I wanted something heartier. The food was ok. I ordered the dragonslayer and it was ok. They neglected to put the bleu cheese on the burger. The bleu cheese is what sets the burger apart from the rest. Everyone was friendly they just didn't pay attention to what they are doing. Yes, there were plenty of places to sit, like every table was empty but one. I won't be back. $18, receipt below. The manager/owner couldn't have been nicer & even though there were many others lined up he took the time to answer our questions & help us make a good choice for our meal. Great service. The bun n hamburger patty were great & we could tell the beef, although smaller patty, was of good quality. We missed having tomato. Fries are extra. The price was a bit higher especially for not much in the burger. It like I said the beef was of really good quality. I've eaten at several Cubby's further north and they were OK but this one was not. I assume the prices have gone up to a ridiculous level in all of them since it's been a year or two since I dined at any of their locations but this just makes me more critical when it comes to the quality and value of the food when it arrives. The price of the sandwiches had gone up at least 50% since my last visit, which doesn't make me happy but isn't the reason for the bad review. I understand that Bidenomics is hurting us all but if you want people to spend their dwindling eat-out budget at your establishment, at least keep the quality of your offering at the top of the spectrum. If I'm spending into the high teens for a sandwich that used to be around $10, don't give me one with a crumbly, dried out bun and meat that is overcooked and dry. The food is amazing, and there is something for everyone. The service is great. In true Cubby fashion, the restaurant seating area is open-decorated and very inviting. And they have patio seating! So if you haven't made dinner plans or if you have change them head over to River road they are located in the same parking lot as Chili's, Red Lobster, and Chipotle. It wasn't cheap that's for sure and I made the mistake of ordering the "regular" size rosemary fries which was 4.99 and really was a normal amount of fries (as opposed to the small?) but my kids did not like the fries because of the rosemary seasoning so we have a lot of fries. The kids meal was good, both enjoyed their burger. I got the burger was mushroom on it and it was great except I would have liked more mushroom and less greens smashed ontop, otherwise it was very tasty. The guy at the counter was nice but took over 10 minutes to get our food and it was not busy at all in there. Additionally, for how slow it was, I'd expect it to be spotless in there. The door when you first arrived had finger prints all over it. The floors were not clean. If I were a manger I'd ensure the door which is the first thing a customer sees is clean. Pet peeve of mine. Cubby's is spacious, beautifully lit with natural sunlight, and has ample seating. The meat is sourced locally, grass-fed, pastured without antibiotics. What more could you ask for?! The food was great: I had the fries, a Dr. Pepper, and a hamburger. How many restaurants sell cage-free, pastured chicken? They have an exceptional menu with lots of choices. I plan to make it a point to take out-of-town friends and relatives to Cubby's. It's the antithesis to horrible places like McDonald's, Burger King, et al. If you're reading this, go online and see how their food is prepared and what the buns contain. When you order any beef sandwich at this price, it should be cooked to order and hot.
