This is an okay place to get some okay Mexican food. I actually liked my enchiladas verde even though it seemed like a can of green chiles were used as the sauce. The chicken inside was great. My husband got a combo platter and he enjoyed it. We got margaritas and those were pretty good. The table and chairs were run down. This place could use a bit of a renovation. I think there's potential here. But.... The waitress was nice to us. However she made the table next to us feel bad for ordering a spicy margarita (not on the menu). The guy even said how about you just give me a sliced jalapeño and I'll put it in? She said, "no because we would have to charge you for the jalapeño". It was silly. I wouldn't expect this little place in a small strip mall to be anything worth writing about but honestly, this place was pretty good!! I was pleasantly surprised. Chips and salsa were good, I really liked the chicken taquitos! I also ordered a shredded beef and bean burrito a la cart and it was so much bigger than I was expecting! I chose to have it dry, with no sauce, and I really enjoyed it. The beef had great flavor. I also ordered no cheese due to an allergy! It was very tasty and I'm sure it would've been even better with cheese. The service was good, too. I'll be back here during my next trip to St. George read more

Best camarones a la diablo I've had in a long time. Used to enjoy Ninfa's till they closed, then Lupita's till they moved and stopped serving them. I've tried them at other places, but they're more like shrimp fajitas than deviled shrimp. Chips and salsa were also very good. Overall Ernesto's has good food. I especially like the chilli rellenos. Last night though they were understaffed. We waited a long time for our entrees to come out and when they did, they looked great, but upon further inspection it was apparent that our food had been sitting under the warming lights for quite some time. Very casual place. The service was friendly but slow. We were seated quickly but had to wait 15 or so minutes before a waiter arrived. There was only 1 other table of 3 elderly patrons dining. We were brought chips and salsa, the salsa was good, the chips were ok. Our plates arrived nice and hot. My partner ordered a combination w rice, beans, chile verde burrito and a ground beef enchilada. The burrito was filled w pork. The enchilada sauce was bland/watery but the cheese on top was melty and broiled perfectly. Its rare to find a spinach enchilada or chimichanga anymorecso I got the spinach and mushroom chimichanga and was expecting a normal sized chimichanga- was going to make 2 meals with my leftovers, but when it arrived-though hot- it was a tiny thing. My chimichanga was the size of a single small enchilada. While the tortilla was good, the green sauce that smothered it was bland. There was a good serving of spinach but the mushrooms were watery and seemed to come from a can, I do not like canned mushrooms. There was no sauce or flavoring inside, not even onions or garlic to enhance the flavor. I wish they offered a plate of spinach enchiladas. The beans were pretty good but the rice was very basic and lacked flavor. They did not have salt and pepper on the tables and did not offer any hot sauces. This seems like a family place as there were young teens and kids milling around the back, being picked up and dropped off getting a ride from what I assume was their big brother or cousin. While everyone was friendly, service was pretty slow. It took a while to get a refill and our check when we were ready to go. They seated some people in a booth behind me and when they sat down the setback was pushed into me and jolted my neck. It was like sitting in an airplane and having someone kick and push the back of my seat. So the booths are old and flimsy. By the time we were done there were 4 other tables of diners that arrived-they were all groups of much, much older people. So I believe that is who their food is catered to-bland palates that can not tolerate flavors or bold spices. We probably would not return as we like more heat, spice and punchy bold flavors. Very, very tasty, less than medium heat salsa given with chips. Nicest waitress ever, so positive. She said her mom makes the salsa...excellent tast mom! I ordered combo taco, Chile relleno and enchilada, all chicken. Best taco I have had in 5 years. A tangy sauce and freshly warm crispy shell catapults it to an awesome flavor. Chile relleno was awesome. I thought the enchilada was average, nothing special. Oh, big time win cause they have awesome margaritas, not common in St George Mexican restaurants. Ernesto's was a very interesting experience because it was a toss-up of good and bad things, probably averaging out to a 3.5 star-review or so. My order was the quesadilla dinner, which I got specifically because of a picture on Yelp. I was intrigued because it looked like it was fried, which it was. I really liked it for the first couple bites, but it was so fried (like not lightly, it was not even recognizably a tortilla at this point if it started that way) that by the end of the meal I was feelin' pretty gross. The shredded beef inside was tasty, though. Other than my entree, here's the breakdown: The pros: - The best thing here was by far the cheese enchilada. They use a type of brown sauce that is very hard to find. I know this will likely mean nothing to 99% of people reading, but just in case...if anyone from Indiana remembers Velia's in Winchester, this is the closest we have had to their cheese enchilada since it closed. - The beans were good! - Service (kinda...see cons). We noticed a sign up on the wall that they serve pupusas (a Salvadoran dish that SLAPS) on certain nights and were disappointed that we hadn't hit it on one of those nights. That got us into a chat with the waitress at the register, who told us the owner is from El Salvador. The cons: - Bridging off the last pro--why not serve Salvadoran food!! Would have loved to see some on the menu, probably would have been better than the Mexican food. - Service was pretty slow for a Mexican place. They did seem a little understaffed--there was often no one manning the cash register, so people would be standing there awkwardly waiting for someone to show up to check them out. - Chips and salsa weren't the greatest. Of course, ravenous pre-meal me still chowed down on them, but the chips were weirdly thick and unnecessarily salty, and the salsa wasn't terribly flavorful and its tomatoes and onions were cut into inconveniently too-large pieces. - The rice was just there. It was pretty dry. Overall, not a bad experience, just oddly full of highs and lows. read more

worst food on the planet and management is horrible don't waste your money. They are rude and the food of all 8 people at my table didn't touch their food. I ordered enchiladas with sauce and the sauce was literally water with a splash of tomato sauce. I sent the enchiladas back saying I did not like the sauce so I will just get a plain bean and cheese burrito. They then brought me a smothered bean and cheese burrito in the same sauce. I then refused to eat that burrito and I refused to pay the check as they redid the same issue with the enchiladas. The owner begin yelling, saying you have to tell us next time you don't want sauce if they open up their eyes and look at their own menu. They're burrito doesn't say it comes smothered so again I got the wrong meal and they still begin to cause a scene. Worst management worst food. Been in the food industry for 30 years. read more

So glad that Ernesto's won the rock-paper-scissors battle that I had with myself in my head. We ordered the 5 beef taquito plate as an appetizer. They make everything. The complimentary salsa, chips, and guac!! Absolutely delicious. The taquitos were fresh and the carne was flavorful and tender (the perfect stringy-kind of beef!). I ordered the "Quesadilla Dinner" with chicken/ served with rice and beans. It was not your typical quesadilla- it was even better!!! It was not pressed on a grill, but I think fried? It was not bready, but the perfect flakiness. A cross between a large, thin empanada and a big version of a fried chicken dumpling. Inside had chicken, cheese, onions, and tomato. Simply divine. This was a random stop on the way through town and well worth it. Our family LOVES Mexican food and are always looking for top notch places. Outside of a few hole in the wall spots in AZ and a traditional place in CA, Ernesto's meets our expectations. We will definitely be back. Here's what we ordered- 1. #25 Everything in this dish was amazing, but the relleno was the star....I wanted to get another to go. 2. Carne Asada burrito- this was perfectly cooked and the sauce made it even better. Also, it is HUGE, so come hungry. Highly recommend this one. 3. #39 Ernesto burrito- good flavor and served hot. Also very large, enough for 2 people. 4. Chicken enchilada with rice and beans- again, another star of the table. The chicken was tender and flavorful with plenty of cheese, rice and beans. 5. Taco salad- this one was our least favorite. It was pretty standard and the chicken was delicious, but a bit small in terms of taco salads and with so many other options, I'd pick something else. I must add the chips and salsa were great. The chips are thick, but authentic, and the salsa chunky which I love. Needless to say we had nothing left when we finished our meal. Last piece of advice- ask for Alma as your server. She was great and made the experience that much better!! read more

I ordered the Carne Asada Plate. Refried beans were yummy, carne asada was fine, nothing special. Chips n salsa good. Hubby said margarita so so. Interior needs some improvement/updating. Just OK Nothing was horrible. The menu offers a wide variety. The servers were polite. Although, they clearly had some down time which they should have used to sweep the floor. It wasn't filthy. But there were several napkins, straw papers, and even a fork lying on the floor. Overall, the food was decent. The plates were extremely hot and the cheese had a toasted feel to it, indicating that it had sat under a heater for some time. The tortilla chips were likely from a bag. Not a good bag. Manager, (short, thin older) woman, who I overheard reprimanding a young server for allowing me a small chips and salsa While I waited for my To Go order, in which I paid full price for. When the waitress came out with my order, she apologized and said, " I was supposed to charge you for the chips, with a sorrowful look on her face. I told her she need not apologize to me. The best Chile Rellenos I've had in a long time, I want them at least once a week. Good sized portions and plenty of options to choose from.
