I've been coming to Casa Maria's for years, even before the current ownership, and it has always been a favorite of mine. The food is consistently delicious, the staff is friendly and fast, and Maria is always so welcoming and remembers us every time we visit. They also have a nice banquet area with a bar that we've used for celebrations, which is a great bonus. And I have to give them credit the bathrooms are always spotless, fresh, and smell great! The other night it was cold and foggy so we wanted something warm and cozy! Soup! Casa Maria has delicious albondigas ( meatball soup). Off we went. We were seated quickly, and drinks served while we looked over the menu. We both got combo #19 - 1 taco, enchilada and chili relleno, along with soup or salad or tostada. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. The decor lets you know you are in a Mexican restaurant enjoying chips and salsa. Our food was delicious, fresh, and home made! I have been here several times with a party of three, but Sunday's came with a party of eight for my father's birthday party that I set up. They are first come first served basis, and I was nervous that at 2:00pm on a Sunday it might be a long wait time. When I checked in, it only took about 5 minutes for them to get a table ready! Everyone is so friendly here. Our server was great and brought our drinks out right away, took orders and brought tostadas. We did have to ask for chips at that point, which are some of the best chips ever! Pacing of the food was a bit off. Fajitas came out way before everyone else's food, and since we always wait for everyone to receive food before eating, that was a little disappointing. But, the food itself was yummy! Went here mid morning and had a superb experience here. My waiter Luis was such a nice guy, he checked on me through the lunch, he smiled and had a pleasant demeanor. The restaurant is clean, and well maintained it has lots of room for large groups or a few people. The food was perfect, I couldn't have had a better meal. We thought we'd try a different Mexican restaurant than our usual, so headed to Casa Maria. Service was ok and restaurant felt clean, however food left much to be desired. Was given complimentary chips and salsa--salsa was bland, chips mediocre. Had to ask for spicier salsa and was given a tiny plastic container, which actually tasted pretty good. If we wanted more chips, was going to cost $1.25, fortunately chips/salsa didn't entice us to want more. For entree, I ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas ($24), it came with 3 very salty small shrimp and small amount of flavorless chicken. To fill the protein void, there was an excessive amount of onions and bell peppers, which were pretty much raw and had no seasoning. (Carrillo's fajitas blow Casa Maria's away, it's not even close) Rice and beans were way under seasoned--didn't even bother to take home leftovers. My boyfriend had a ground beef and a chicken enchilada, with a carnitas taco. Carnitas were dry, no flavor and nearly too hard to chew through. Enchiladas had barely any meat inside, although he said sauce was pretty tasty. Meal was $52 before tip. Too many great, more affordable Mexican restaurants to choose from in the area. read more

Can't say I loved it. It was... OK. It was our first time here and I've always been curious about the place. We walked in to a few people waiting, made our way to the guy at the counter... he was on the phone so didn't greet us right away but he did eventually hand us a sign-in sheet to put our names down. The flow of customers were pretty consistent for them. It was busy but not so busy that they weren't able to seat us quickly... they just had to get the tables cleaned off first. I had high hopes for how busy they were. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't the friendliest but she wasn't rude (to me)... though my bf did feel she was irritated towards him somehow and she wasn't really paying attention to us when we were ordering-- he had to repeat his order because she didn't hear him and was focused elsewhere. The girl who brought our drinks didn't seem too friendly either... idk, didn't get a lot of smiles from them. He got the the Costillas plate, I got the Enchiladas plate (surprise, surprise). Each plate came with a side item, he got the Albondigas soup, I got the Tostada... He got a beer, I got a soda. Oh, and we got chips and salsa while we waited. Chips and Salsa were good, not the best I've had. The soup... meh. We each tried a spoon of it, we didn't care for it. It wasn't hot, and it lacked flavor. The Tostada was good, but again, not the best... he ate more of it than I did since his soup was a bust. Both of our plates came out, we were warned "hot plates" but that's about all they were... hot plates. Our food was not hot. Once he bit into one of his pork ribs pieces, he said right away it was cold inside. Same for my enchiladas and it's pretty easy to tell when it comes to Cheese Enchiladas... the second I cut into one I knew it wasn't that hot because the cheese wasn't fully melted. The flavor on our dishes were good though and we both agreed that once we packed it, took it home, warmed it up properly-- it was good. They don't win the award for the best, sorry to say... but it didn't completely disappoint once it was hot and ready (not okay btw-- should've been served like this initially). Everyone was a lot friendlier by the time we were ready to pay and leave. The three mentioned above all said "thank you" and "bye"... so there's that, and I think it was almost closing time. I wouldn't mind if I had to come back to try something else but I also wouldn't ever think to come back on my own when I have a few spots I'd much rather go to first... at least now I know. Came here today with my family for my grandpa's birthday. We were sat immediately and our waitress was nice and attentive. The food was just ok. I ordered the taco and enchilada combo plate. I chose a shrimp taco and the shrimp was good! I also ordered the chicken enchilada and it was a little bland. Other than that, everyone said they liked their food. Went today for lunch with a friend. The menus are under the glass tabletop at the booth we were seated. We were served our soft drinks right away, and a second server brought us chips and salsa. We both were ordering off the Single Item menu, above which was posted No Free Chips & Salsa. The original server came back in a while to take our food order, and once we ordered, she said "Chips & salsa don't come on the Single menu", to which we said we hadn't asked for them. The waitress picked up the chip basket and salsa bowl and said "I'll take these back then." Seems to me perhaps they should hold off on delivering chips and salsa to the table until AFTER the order is taken. The food was average, like so many places in town. Great authentic Mexican food. You get served chips and salsa at the table. Some meals comes with a small cup of soup as an option. My daughter loves their pozole. The fajitas are also delicious. My least favorite thing is that their menu is large and under the glass on the table so it's not super easy to view. You have to scoot or lean to see it all so if you're sitting next to someone, you'd crouch on their space. Definitely recommend as we are repeat customers. After 3 games of bowling and 200 ounces of beer, the four of us stumbled into this place. The staff were super nice and the food came out quickly. I had the #30 combo which was a taco, burrito and enchilada with ground beef that was really good. My wife ordered the torte, that came in a bowl almost like it was soup. I wish I could leave "0" stars holy smokes this has to be the worst restaurant I've ever been too in my entire life. We came to celebrate my grandmas 96th birthday and let me tell you what a horrible experience it was. We got here before 6pm. Mind you it's my first time there had no idea the menu is on the table underneath glass, idk who does this but my mom could barely read it. Teresa who is a horrible waitress and extremely RUDE should not be serving customers. She had the worst attitude when we sat down and was angry because we didn't know what we wanted to eat. My mom asked what beer they had and no response we got waters and a Pepsi and they never got refilled the whole time we were there. Teresa never came back to our table to check on us see how the food was or if we needed refills. The guy with the blonde hair never stopped by, the guy with all the tattoos never stopped by. My aunt asked 5 times for more chips and didn't get them until our dinner came out. Which my grandmas plate was forgotten about and didn't come out until everyone was already eating. My meal was watered down, the meat was so thick and fork couldn't cut into it. I ate the taco and half an enchilada before I just couldn't eat anymore. I felt bad that my aunt had to pay for me to not eat. Our bill was $110. I honestly have never been to a Hispanic restaurant where they paid more attention to "other customers" than their own race. I'm not making this about race either but I could see why she was paying more attention to those tables than the ones she left in the front of the restaurant. How can you charge gratuity on a table you didn't even serve. My aunt and grandma go here all the time to where they've never had bad service and the owner has always taken care of them I don't know what goes on when your staff isn't being told what to do. My husband began eating his food and about 3 bites into his enchilada he looked like he was choking, I was ready to start hitting him on his back when he coughed up a long hair, that still had melted cheese on it- it had made it halfway down his throat. I watched in horror as he pulled it out. It was disgusting. I was trying to flag down the waitress to let her know about it, which took a few minutes because they were running around like they were too busy to see us. We showed the hair to the waitress and it was an immediate defense of "no one in here had blonde hair". really? It was so gross we hadn't looked at it that close to see the color of it. Mind you my hair is blonde but it was pulled back. How nice to try to shift it back to us, like we put the hair in his enchilada that dam near choked him. She takes it to the back, then another girl comes out and says the same thing- I said to her I didn't notice a color, she replied we "oh we looked at it through a microscope and it's blonde", but we will take his meal off the ticket, she puts the bill on the table and walked away, that was the last we saw of any waitress as I and my mom tried to finish our meal which I could not. Hair aside, the food is very bland, the enchilada sauce was like water with a tint of light brown, and the corn tortillas were stale. Casa Maria was our go to favorite Mexican food in Clovis for many years. We just experienced a show stopper visit that will unfortunately cost Casa Maria our business. Prompt food delivery of cold Abondigas soup. I alerted the long time waitress and she took it to the kitchen only to be microwaved. The chile verde burrito contained very dry and chewy meat, almost non consumable. My wife had a simple enchilada combo that was extremely bland, with zero flavor. After the meal, the real surprise was the balance due. $$$$ does not even come close to the increase in prices that Casa has implemented. No daily specials are even offered! We sadly bid this business a final farewell as there are many other better quality food and pricing in Clovis as mexican food alternatives! read more

We tried them for the last time seeing as the Thai restaurant seemed a little busy. Nonetheless, we walked down to Casa Maria's. It wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. I can't believe that the food got worse! The chips are good, but both the regular and sweet (mild) salsas were watery. It used to be thicker. Ordered 2 enchilada combos; one shredded beef and cheese ... the other two ground beef. The sauce tasted canned. Worse than the canned stuff you buy at the store and doctor up! It was watery and flavorless. The beans were thinned out even more! Hardly no cheese on the top of the enchiladas whereas my previous post had lots of cheese. Our food was luke warm. The cheese inside of my enchilada wasn't melted. It's sad because we came here a couple weeks back and noticed the change (watery salsa, runny beans) .... How can it get worse in a month? It's obvious that corners are being cut. Perhaps to save money? Nonetheless, today was our last visit. We have been a couple times because they bring out my sons rice and beans immediately which helps - most toddlers are impatient. But I have always favored Rodeos across the way. I have been a frequent customer of this reasurant scince before the current owner bought it and changed the name. Since then, the food's quality as risen and lowered, due to a frequent change in employees and cooks. My last visit there will truly be my last. The prices were 25% higher in the last month and the ortions 25% smaller. The real shock was being charged a serice fee of $1.30 for using a credt card. This was never the case before. Worse was that they did not advise me ahead of time of the charge. It was just on the receipt when I cheked later. What a dissapointment. read more

My parents and I picked up food to go. They have been here a few times and said they liked it, and since I'm always happy to check out a new restaurant, I was happy to try it out. We did a phone order and 15 minutes later, our food was ready for pick up. We were in the mood for the basics. Enchiladas and tacos. My parents each got the two enchiladas plate with rice and beans, and I got an enchilada and taco plate with rice and beans. The portions were generous and I was very full. The beans come with cheese on them, the enchiladas did not have onions, so if that is your thing, I'm sure you could add some! I'm not going to say the food was really authentic or anything I will crave later, but it was good. (I also want to acknowledge, I ordered a pretty standard/typical order, I didn't try any of the traditional plates. I would like to come back and try one of those out though, just to see if I'm missing anything.) I did LOVE the chips. They were freshly made and you could tell. They went well with the chunky pico de gallo salsa. The rice was probably my least favorite. It had an almost stale, slightly hard texture, which is not what I want in a rice. If you need some place to eat in Clovis, and you are craving an enchilada, the flavor of the sauce is pretty good, and the beans are good.
