First time here. I had diavolo chicken and shrimp w rigatoni in marinara sauce. Order came with Alfredo so had to send it back. After it came back, it just did not seem spicy like a diavolo sauce. Wow, I'm with David M. et al - this place is extremely good in so many ways, I can't understand all the hate. I do not think the food rates a five - definitely a solid four, but I'm giving it a five for the overall experience and to counter the negatives which I think are definitely not appropriate. Cucina Tagliani is in a strip mall. Then again, it's in Glendale, which might as well be Phoenix, so what ISN'T in a strip mall? Its decor is on the edge of being cheesy, but it was done well enough that you get what they were shooting for (Italian villa) without it actually being distracting. Except that it is, a little bit. If I have one complaint about the place it's that the seating at the tables can make you feel a tad self conscious, being so close to other diners and in the middle of everything. That said, it's obvious that they gave some thought to staggering the tables, and overall I didn't feel THAT uncomfortable, so make of it what you will. The food is simply delicious, and the portions are beyond generous. It's difficult to screw up artichoke dip, but CT's artichoke dip appetizer was so good I couldn't stop eating it. Not good for me - because it was so huge it could have been a meal in and of itself. The bread - crusted with parmesan - was a bit too tough for my companion, but I found it a delightful accompaniment to the dip, and in any case, soft pita was provided as well. I do not have enough good words for the optional antipasto salad ($1.99). There are two types of antipasto: the a la carte meat and cheese tray provided with a salad as an afterthought, and the full-on salad that is completely incorporated with meats and cheeses. The second kind is incredibly easy to get wrong. The antipasto at Cucina Tagliani is definitely of the latter type, and yet it is pulled off magnificently. I don't think I can recall having better. As others have mentioned, the canteloupe is a surprisingly delicious nuance. My companion's garden salad was competent and delicious. I opted for the spicy sausage and rigatoni, and she had the veal parmesan. Neither of us could get halfway through our "half" lunch portions, but we both agreed that they were superior examples of local Italian fare. Olive Garden this ain't. Not that I really have anything against Olive Garden - they do a decent job of wrapping Italian cuisine up for mass appeal - but comparisons to Cucina Tagliani are unfair - this is nothing like that. It is not bland, the portions are not so tightly controlled, and more than anything - these taste like someone's unique recipes - not recipes manufactured for mass consumption. Finally, the price. Definitely in line with expectations. We got out with a generous appetizer, two salads, two entrees and two drinks - with enough to take home for dinner, and it cost us $36. The service merited a 20% tip, as it was efficient and very friendly. We never once wanted for something to nosh after the first initial 3 minutes. Give it a shot. Cucina Tagliani on 83rd and Bell was my all time favorite restaurant. It's a shame they closed it because this location is a terrible downgrade. The building is not as nice, the staff lack proper training, and the food isn't even up to the same quality. I had not been to Tagliani since the closure of 83rd. My wife and I were extatic to try this location when we learned of it's existence, however, we ended up being sat with a server who had no regard for our experience. We did not even meet our server until nearly half an hour into our trip and her first words "are you ready to order?" ... Uhh okay hi nice to meet you too. The server genuinely took orders from other tables who were seated after us before even stopping by to say hello. I will never return to Tagliani again and that's a terrible reality because this was my all time favorite restaurant 6 months ago. We didn't even end up staying to eat.. after an hour and still never having the server check on us and let us know it would be out soon we took our meals to go. I finally made it into Taglianis and boy I have been missing out! Nice quite atmosphere, quick seating and friendly waitress. The warm bread with oil and wine vinegar was a plus! I also liked the fact that they offer spaghetti squash as an option in place of pasta. They don't skip on the pasta sauce here and the dishes are very flavorful. What a find! I had the spinach manicotti (since I don't eat meat) with a garden salad with blue cheese dressing. The salad came on a chilled plate and the dressing came with crumbled bleu cheese on the side. Like everything else, it was home made. I don't want to spend too much time on a mere garden salad, but everything - the cucumbers, the lettuce, the tomatoes - was crisp. My manicotti was firm and flavorful. It was cooked with marinara sauce inside and covered with Alfredo. A nice combination. There were three "rolls." I finished one, and the next two were for the following day's lunch and dinner. The garlic bread between ordering and dinner was just okay. Plenty of extra Parmesan for everyone - and everyone else enjoyed their meals as much as me. (They can write their own reviews, right? Though I will note that of us enjoyed her happy hour well drink - very reasonably priced at $3.00.) The staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Tracie was training a new staffer; both very nice. Near the end of dinner, Tracie brought us soup samples (unsolicited) - minestrone and broccoli cheddar. I heard the former was good (it had bacon, so I didn't try it); I know the broccoli cheddar was tasty - rich and creamy. I look forward to coming back and will recommend it to my family and friends who visit the area. P.S. Two of my favorite desserts (spumoni and tiramisu) were on the menu, but I was too full to order either. I swear I have reviewed this place and their sister location on Bell before and updated them once or twice but I can't find those reviews! Maybe I'm crazy. Anyway, I've been coming here by myself, with friends, with family for like 20 years and once in a while there are a few dishes out of a group of us that miss their mark but not often. Last time was definitely one of those. My girl and I hit it up because it's one of the few places in town you can actually get a bowl of littleneck clams as an app (or an entree if you add more). I ordered gnocchi with pepperoncini sauce on the side (there's a reason the menu says to taste it before committing) and she had angel hair with marinara+meat+mushroom. My gnocchis were raw and I sent them back to be replaced with angel hair. Crunchy. Salad wilty, minestrone soup was cloudy not a clear broth. Normally, I just come here and complain about it but I felt the need to call over the manager who was super attentive and listened to every critique I had, adjusting the bill accordingly and tossing in a free dessert. Kudos for that. Here's the deal - raw gnocchis should be impossible. They float when they are done. Angel hair, even if dried, should only take about 2-3 minutes to cook on a commercial stove. So, having either one undercooked is not normal and definitely not the norm here. Normally, everything is great from ding to dong, hence my 2.5 star rating. The fact that it was a saturday night around 7pm and there were very few ppl should have been my clue something was amiss. I missed the clue. My bad. Normally, the place is packed on a weekend. So, to sum up - it's been very good for 20 years but this last time was a 50+% failure rate on a slow night...so we'll give it another shot but at this point I'm not sure it is what it once was. Our server (new I believe) was fine. The manager LISTENED to our complaints and assured us she was gonna be all over it...I got the feeling there was a new guy in the kitchen so, we'll see how it works out. read more

I have been here many times and I think it's some of the best Italian I have had. I wouldn't dream of walking into an Olive Garden with this place near by. I went with a group last night for dinner to try Cucina Tagliani and well it just wasn't my cup of tea. I love Italian food don't get me wrong and I love big portions both of which Cucina Tagliani offers. The service was great as well. My problem was the food just wasn't really good. I had the calamari which was ok and a ceaser salad which again just ok. Then for main course i had the veal parmigiana which I thought just really lacked in flavor and thought the meat was over done. So overall it wasn't a bad experience just lack of tasty food that led to the low rating so try at your own risk. read more

Had dinner here tonight and it was very good. Started with the mussels in a garlic butter sauce and they were very good. The bread basket they brought had this MARVELOUS herb and olive oil bruschetta! The garden salad with blue cheese dressing came with fresh crumbles of blue cheese. Main course was Seafood with Angel Hair pasta, (Shrimp, scallops, sun-dried tomatoes, broccoli in lemon-caper butter), and the Mama's Combo, (lasagna, chicken parm, fettuccine alfredo). Everything was yummy. Yes, quality food takes love and time to prepare, (so if your in a rush, go to McDonalds), but service here was not "slow". Our server Liz was attentive and warm. OK where do I start??? So I took my mom and dad out for dinner for their 41st anniversary. We decided to check this place out cause my mom loves fettuccine Alfredo. Well I can say for certain that the hostess did not want to be working on a Friday night. She made it very clear. Anyway after sitting down we noticed that the decor was really old and looked like a converted chilli's restaurant from the early 90s. To be honest the only thing good about this place was Rachel our server. She had a great personality and made sure we got whatever we needed. The problem was the food the seating and the same dean martin song playing over and over and over again. OMG!! Me father and I ordered the lobster and strip steak and I kid u not It was absolutely trash. The lobster tasted old and the steak was more fat than steak. Not to mention the awful smell of what appeared to be caramelized Brussel sprouts. It made the whole dish just unbearable let alone Edible. My mom ordered minestrone soup that was definitely not minestrone. It was as sweet as an apple pie. Weird. Then her Alfredo came with literally no Alfredo sauce. I mean this is supposed to be an Italian joint. John Gotti himself wouldn't be caught using the bathroom in this place. I mean I know Olive Garden restaurants that have better food. Anyway it is what it is the service was a A but the food was a F. Wish I could give it a better review but I'd be lying. read more

After spending almost $200 on takeout and adding a large tip on top of that on Sunday 6/5, I got home to find out our order was not complete and wrong. It didn't have the two meatballs we ordered and the gnocchi was supposed to have sliced mushrooms which it didn't. This is why I hate tipping for takeout. My mom wanted to come here for a birthday dinner because she had received a reward email for a free birthday dessert. The food is always great, however the service was not. We showed the server her birthday reward email and they brought us out the cake, and then proceeded to bring the check saying they couldn't use her reward and that it couldn't be taken off the check. So we had to pay for a cake we wouldn't have ordered in the first place. That portrays bad customer service. Very upsetting because we used to frequent the 83rd location before it closed and we do love the food, but we won't be returning any time soon. read more

Had an great time with a few friends here. The food was great and the server, I believe Alexis was phenomenal. She took initiative with refilling drinks, removing finished items from the table, was well spoken, and even great with the kids. Have not been to this restaurant for years. We quit going because the food was nothing more than mediocre. Thought we would try for lunch on Monday 12/19 and the food has not changed, poor at best. Eggplant Parma was so over fried that you need a very sharp steak knife to cut it. Nothing left as far as eggplant inside, only overcooked parma, very crispy. Prices were very high for the food quality. 2 persons, $60 with tip . They have no lunch menu, only an overpriced dinner menu. Disappointed at best. read more

Went to the original location as they had closed their location at the 101 and Bell Road. My daughter and I went on a Friday for lunch and one of my favorite soups is served on Fridays and that is their clam chowder, she had their minestrone. I was excited to try new Italian food in my area. I've lived here a while but never thought to try this place. I wanted some spicy Italian food and was excited to try the Spicy! Chicken Dynamite. The host on the phone when I called in the order suggested I try the sauce half with Alfredo to cut down the spiciness. When I got my food it was lukewarm (They told me 15-20 and I was there in 20 minutes so maybe my fault). The noodles were a little overdone and could have used less time in the water. The sauce was almost completely flavorless despite being half Alfredo. The spice was a bit lacking but I did do half and half. The chicken was not good, it wasn't overdone but barely seasoned and lacking in quantity. The bread that came with it had a pretty good flavor but was so chewy I had to tear it off with my teeth. The whole dish was something I'd expect from Fazolis (If you remember them haha). Cheap fast food Italian, not a $16 meal from a seemingly fancy restaurant. Unfortunately I am sorely disappointed. The only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is because it was edible and not gross, just seriously lacking flavor. A little salt and garlic spruced it up but it was still bland. Next time, I'll order takeout from Oreganos down the street. Very disappointed. read more

We made a reservation for the day before Valentine's knowing that they would probably be busy. We showed up 20 minutes early and understood that our table wasn't likely ready. The service here is outstanding. Not only did they bend over backwards to get us seated as soon as possible but they comped dessert because we had to wait until time that our reservation was originally for. We've been going here since we were little and loved it, but this place has gone downhill. I always feel that the 1st impression of a place starts with the person that greets you (host/server/manager) and then to the state of the bathroom. When we arrived there the host seemed out of touch not very hospitable..not the first time with a host with an attitude and aloof over there.I've been in the restaurant for years. The quality of the bathroom reflects the state of the restaurant and food LET ME EMPHASIZE THAT! When we were seated by the disgruntled host, she seemed she was middle aged or more she didn't even offer us drinks to start just had us there waiting for awhile ... learning that she was a server all along was irritating. For any restaurant whoever seats you should atleast ask what you would like to drink, regardless if they are your server or not. I went to the bathroom and it was gross. Totally NOT maintained, smelled like it hasn't been cleaned for weeks, smelled like mold and sewer and there was a dirty step stool just hanging out in front of the sink like someone forgot it and was a hazard. The server we ended up having was nice, but that's all. The food just lacked in everything. My husband's dish looked like it came out of a can and microwaved. The quality of the food is the same as the dirty bathroom they have. We definitely will not be going there again. Overpriced, and you are not missing anything. Better to just cook at home and not get sick with a food borne illness. It's sad to say that this restaurant seems like they just want customers money and could care less about the quality of their food. There are DEFINITELY better restaurants out there, look elsewhere. First visit here was splendid! As a dairy- and gluten-free diner, I was skeptical I'd be able to eat anything other than salad at an Italian eatery. I was so happy to have so many dairy- and gluten-free options; more than probably anywhere I've eaten! I enjoyed a side salad, and zucchini noodles with low-calorie marinara and grilled chicken. My husband had eggplant parm (the regular size was two giant pieces AND spaghetti; he brought half home), and said the bread brought to our table also was delicious. This is a tired old place with tired old food. The decor looks and feels as if someone from the Adams family is going to stick their head out and scare the s#'t outta you! The lunch menu is is nothing to shout about. After drinks,tax and a tip it's still $30-$40 for lunch for two. The place could use a cleaning. My husbands favorite cake is the Chocolate Mascarpone cake from Cucina Tagliani. He requested it for his birthday and because I am a planner, I ordered it 2 weeks ahead of the date I wanted it. I even went as far as to call the night before and make sure pick up was set for 1pm. When I called I was hung up on NO LESS than 3 times before someone came on and confirmed my order. Long story short I showed us the next day and no cake was ready there was not even an order . As there were 13 people coming to the party I had to find somewhere else to get a cake. I will never spend money here again read more
