One of the very best memories we have visiting Hawaii last year! We stepped into another word where everyone felt like a new friend. The owner was super sweet and very welcoming to all. He made my 97- year old mother feel right at home! He clearly loves passionately Hawaii, his business, his employees and his guests... he is the embodiment of ALOHA SPIRIT. We sincerely wanted to love this place and the review is mostly because we are from the Bay Area in CA and my husband is a musician.... We are at many venues and festivals big and small. We came out to the Waikiki area for a wedding but have been out here multiple times before. We were excited to see this spot has live music! For us it was the ONLY place on the strip that offered us and drew us is in! The food and drink was just okay ... however, after a few moments, my husband invited me to have a slow dance, and he tried to do that only to be interrupted seconds later by the waitresses saying that there's no allowed dancing on the premises . What on earth? Why would you have a live musical band without allowing people to dance?? It wasn't like we were falling over. We just wanted to enjoy the live music !! There has never ever ever been in place anywhere to tell us that so for that reason mostly we are leaving this review because we were not only frustrated and upset by this but also they did in front of dozens of people in the restaurant, so if you have any interest in dancing to live music, please don't go here because they will not allow it and I feel like it's easier for everyone to know before they go and I would've appreciated knowing that myself. read more

Seemed like a cool place from the street. I ahd the fried Sea Bass. A coworker had the Coconut Shrimp. The atmosphere is very Caribbean more than Hawaiian. The tables are super old so are the chairs. The floor is like an old parking lot repainted. So they dont sit flat and neither do the chairs. Seemed a bit dirty but that might be since its a just an outside establishment covered by tents and umbrellas. That seemed to be held together by duct tape and zipp ties. Pretty sure the place barely passes building codes. Other than that its ok. The Sea Bass was ok. Nothing spectacular. A tad over breaded. The flavor all fish which is fine. 6 pieces for 14. This place really just doesn't have anything going for it. Yes, you can sit at one of their cheap tables placed on a dilapidated concrete floor and drink a Budweiser, but that's about it. Cuckoo Coconuts has so much potential to be great but coming in here, the tables were sticky and gross. Waiters are nice but don't come often enough to check if you need another drink or food. Waited long periods of time between each drink. There was one lady singing the whole time it would have been nice to have karaoke be an option but I guess she's there a few times a week to entertain. What I didn't like was the bartender free pouring I think that's completely unprofessional and tasting the drinks you can definitely tell the ratios were off. The specialty drinks also had so much potential to be great but weren't. Also rather than the bartender pour our shots a server poured and definitely over poured this is definitely more than a shot of Tequila. So bad for the company and wasting money on over pouring. Loved the ambiance here! On a busy Friday night in Waikiki this place had no wait! The menu is simple and affordable. Don't let it fool you, the fish & chips was some of the best I've ever had. The fish just fell apart in my mouth. The drinks were good but strong so beware. I asked for my drink in a pineapple cuz I didn't want the pina colada and they were able to that for an upcharge to $17. Not bad for a drink that large! We went here based on a recommendation from a family member. We did arrive a little early so the line was not too bad and it actually flowed very quickly. Once inside the live band is playing and Norm and his band are fantastic! They had the whole restaurant singing and wanting to dance (but because of Covid we could not). The wait staff took a long time to come to our table takeout orders for both food and drinks and the food was OK. The restaurant is family friendly so if you're traveling with kids it is OK to take them in to enjoy the live music. My kiddos had a blast! Kudos to the bartender because the drinks were delicious. The old-school tiki themed tribute to Hawaii adds to the overall enjoy ability of your visit. Visited this colorful tiki bar on a whim and was pleased by the food and drinks (real pina colada, Java Lava, pineapple burger). The singer and her band were hilarious and VERY interactive with the crowd, asking where everyone was from and handing off the microphone for impromptu karaoke. My husband and I were impressed by the range of songs that catered to all languages in the audience, like English, Japanese, Korean, etc, sung by a native Hawaiian gal. Very inclusive and fun. I've been wanting to try this place out since my last trip I made to Waikiki and I stopped by on a Saturday night around maybe 9:30. Just outside the place, there seemed to be an altercation between some guests and one of the servers. The guest threw her water on the server, so, clearly, something was wrong. Not sure the extent of it. I went in and it was packed, there was a band on the stage and the crowd was having a great time. The crowd was on the...mature end...to say the least, but that doesn't bother me. I sat at the tiki bar, since all of the tables were filled. It was clear they were all trying to handle the situation out front and everyone seemed flustered and behind. I sat there for 10 minutes, grabbed my own menu and enjoyed the music. The entire time, no one at the bar served me or even looked at me. It would have been fine if one, of the many, people who were going in and out of the bar would have just acknowledged me with a "be right with you" or something similar...but no. So, sadly, though the rest of the crowd was having a grand time, I walked out. read more

My fiance came to this bar after hearing that it served some drinks in coconuts and pineapples! Also, the reviews mentioning that the drinks are strong were pretty encouraging too. Well I'm glad to report that: 1) They DO serve 2 drinks in fruit (one coconut based one in a coconut, and one pina colada with pureed pineapple in the pineapple) 2) Those drinks are STRONG (but still tasty) The venue is a cute little outdoors space--fiance said it was as if they took a small parking lot and made it a bar--but that thought really didn't cross my mind because they decorated the place so thoroughly and so well! Everywhere are patio umbrellas essentially creating a make-shift roof. Tiki statues decorate the corners. The nearby wall is covered with a colorful mural. The bar is a tiki-esque little wooden hut. And strung from every surface are fairy/Christmas lights! The atmosphere is amazingly awesome when night falls. Speaking of atmosphere, let me tell you that band Tuesday night was ROCKING OUT. A small 3-piece band with a hugely charismatic female lead. People were spontaneously dancing along, people were singing--she even made a round around the entire place and had everyone sing into the mic if they wanted--and most people did! Maybe it's the alcohol. Maybe it's just the infectiously fun atmosphere. I don't know which, but I was very reluctant to leave haha. Okay, now on to the drinks. Fiance really enjoyed the beer selection. They seemed to have a decent variety (try that Maui Brewing Co Coconut Porter!). I got the coconut drink and the pineapple drink. (#party). Both were actually sizable (the coconut doesn't look sizable but trust me, it is with how strong it was) and both were extremely flavorful/tasty. I also think the prices aren't too bad either, given the fact that a regular coconut or virgin pineapple drink usually set you back $10/$13 respectively. Fiance and I didn't try the food, that might have to happen next time. I definitely recommend this place and plan on coming back. As someone who is usually too snobby to go to a place like this, I should probably change my ways. My friends and I had the most fun here possible on a Friday night for a few integral reasons: 1. FIVE. DOLLAR. WELL. DRINKS. Everything is better with alcohol, and after doing a round of the more fun cocktails, we quickly switched over to the cheapest well drinks in Waikiki, a huge find in such a tourist trap area. With such a good deal, who wouldn't have fun here? 2. Leilani and live music: thanks to impeccable (and coincidental) timing, we arrived right before the music began and ended up staying for all three sets. Leilani and group did a bunch of covers suitable for the tourist audience and made the entire night fun with requests, shoutouts, and dancing. 3. Other patrons: thanks to my trusty friend alcohol and the fact that we were the youngest people there, we were the target of a lot of attention, made some nice friends from Texas, and got a round of drinks for free. Drinks and food themselves were ok. I had a loco moco that was fine, but more importantly, a good base for my drinking. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. The Entertainment is amazing, The Food is delicious, the atmosphere is very lively, but the service is abysmal! The waitresses rarely check on you if they do at all. Flagging one down seems to be impossible. And I had to ask 3 different waitresses to bring me my check, only to still wait 15 minutes for it to make it to my table. The food on the other hand was some of the best shrimp I've ever had. Perfectly sautéed and glazed with Garlic butter. I was in heaven. The drinks were heavy handed as well, which was great cause we lefts with a strong buzz. The price isn't bad, it is cheap, which is hard to find in Honolulu. I was surprised to walk on here Sunday night (live music Friday night too) and a woman name Lily sung some classic hits ("Unchained Melody", "Hotel California", a Beatles Medley) beautifully. She even took time out to sing Happy Birthday to customers. Cuckoo gets it right with the live music, my friends enjoyed their teriyaki bowls and burgers but I did not like the fries. They were flavorless. And I feel if you have to put ketchup on them, they're lacking something, and this was the case with their fries, unfortunately. I had the Hawaiian Iced Tea for a late night beverage and THAT was exceptional. Wow, this is probably the eating experience I've had at Waikiki or in the last three years. The spicy tuna tasted like it had turned, the Hawaiian burger was super plain, cooked well done and cold, and the coconut shrimp were average.
