I have been here so many times I can't believe I haven't left a review. The interior is exactly what you would expect at a Mexican food restaurant. The service has always been excellent and attentive and the food is excellent. I go there every time we are in the area.

We decided to have lunch this time and it was nice to be able to walk in and find a table during the weekend. The hostess was very nice and welcoming. I wanted to sit on the patio because it was a sunny day. The ambience was very nice. We opted for tacos and margaritas. The margaritas and beer were very good. My husband devour his tacos. I opted for chorizo for some reason completely forgetting that they were spicy. The waitress was very nice. I would probably go with something else other than chorizo next time ,definitely returning.

Overall, great experience with a fantastic ambience. If ever in the area, I would definitely come back. The ambience was outstanding. It is built into what looks like an old Mexican barn structure with tons of decorations. Very unique and eclectic. We absolutely loved it. The prices were average for this type of food. No complaints there. The margaritas were amazing, I would definitely get more The service was outstanding, and the people were very friendly. Everything was very quick and the wait staff was very attentive. The food was just a little above average. Certain items were outstanding, but others failed to impress. The enchiladas were very good, but the tamale was strange. The chips were great, but the rice was undercooked. Overall average food. I will definitely be back, I loved it

Sorry to say it's been awhile since we visited. Spontaneous decision last evening for a drop in - far beyond expectations. Red sangria with really fresh fruit slices complemented the crispy chips and delicate salsa dip delectably. As always, I selected the chef's special offering : Baja lobster tostadas - perfect ! All four of us commented on the preserved charm and ambience of the environment. What a great night out - STILL a treat and local treasure. Thank you Joseph - and team. Frank Maletz

Had a wonderful experience at Cuckoo's Nest this week.it was my first time and I really enjoyed it. When walking in it Restaurant appears small but it's not. It's full of rooms decorated all differently! All so colorful! Decor is pretty cool too with a lovely patio area! Service was excellent! Food was very good. Tried some Canción Tequila Margs and they were delish! Can't get over an Apple Spice Marg . So good! It's definitely a cute place in Old Saybrook!

Still a 20 minute wait. They take your phone number & call when table is ready. And the wait was fine. Cotton Hollow perserve is across the street, so a short walk over there and back worked out a perfect way to pass the time. We were seated in the bar area - at a regular table. It was decorated in a fun way - fish artwork, a tv, natural wood. We didn't quite understand the surf board that hung over the bar though? My daughter & I started with a drink - I had mango pina colada, she had a drink with gin, cranberries. Both good. Food - exceeded my expectations. I had the enchilada duo. Chicken & beef. I usually like beef better, however I think the chicken was in a mole sauce - so delicious. Husband had 2 brisket tacos that he loved. Daughter had the rice bowl (with chicken). Decided to split the churros for dessert. Came with: ice cream, Carmel & chocolate sauce. Yes - we will be back. I saw a patio outside. Warmer weather is coming

Empanada tasted and smelled like the beef was old. It was primarily filled with air and the pastry was far too brown. We also ordered a burrito bowl with chicken, which was the furthest thing from white meat. The chicken meat is small crumbs of dry, VERY dark meat with seasoning - can't even be called chunks or pieces, it's chicken crumbs. Pico tastes good but the tomatoes were nearly white and there was just a sprinkling of it on the bowl anyway. Same for the lettuce and rice - they were just filler, not tasty at all. Guac was great, however the chips were way too thick and burnt. Service was fine enough, but I ordered takeout and then sat while my food was cooked and no one really went out of their way to say anything to the one customer in the place. I felt that more attention could've been paid to service and quality food prep seeing as how they were very clearly not busy. Not the best, not the worst. Doesn't warrant another visit for sure.

The food experience was two stars at best however Ive added an extra star because of what they do. I got takeout. FYI the food is super inauthentic. Chicken Burrito Bowl - the chicken had decent flavor but zero spice, was cooked fresh and cooked perfectly. The pico was practically all onion though. Needed way more tomato but cilantro and lime proportions were good. Ground Beef Tacos - ground beef was a bit greasy and the crunch taco shell was stale. The crunchy taco shells are Old El Paso.. the boxes are in the kitchen. There's no spice heat in the food. They had no hot sauce available (?!?). They also had no guac the day i was there which is like 35% of the burrito bowl experience. Soo yeah, the experience definitely leans toward the negative. Its balanced out by what they are doing as a day program and the fact that there isn't an alternative option nearby.
