My girlfriend took me here. Definitely a mom and pop restaurant. Service was excellent and the food was good. I got a kick out of the free books in the bathroom hall and the bathroom door didn't lock so there was a "knock first" sign. Don't expect an updated restaurant. Wee one and I stopped by on a Sunday morning. There was only one open table but the friendly host and young lady bringing beverages seated us pretty quick. They brought a high chair but the restaurant itself is super crowded like it could benefit from having a table or two less so the only place to stick the high chair was directly across the table from me (-1 star). Not really accessible for a young baby to sit since he hasn't quite mastered the fine art of eating yet so he had to sit in my lap the whole time so I could feed him. Anyway. We waited for about 5 minutes before the young lady to ask us what we wanted to drink so I ordered a water and a Menu because we still had not been given one (-1 star). The actual guy came to get our food order so we ordered the eggs Benedict with potatoes O'Brien for me and a side of cantaloupe and an apple juice for the wee one. The eggs Benedict came out first and relatively quickly (+1 star) which would be good except I had a hungry baby... So eventually his juice and three of the tiniest slices of cantaloupe come out (-1 for taking 5+ minutes to bring juice). The apple juice was a disgustingly syrupy brand but I'm not totally evil so I just mixed it with some of my water and let them keep that star. The eggs Benedict had a perfectly poached egg and a river of hollandaise (+1 star) but was made with none-too-thinly sliced Sunday dinner ham. Not the normal Canadian bacon but again, no stars lost for preference. Some of the potatoes weren't fully cooked (-1) and when the bill came (-1 star for a $20 meal for me and someone that cannot actually stand without assistance yet.) We'll skip this one next time. It was also sort of weird that they only had two people actually bringing food out so if you ordered anything that takes more than two hands, it came out in trips. Not so weird for me, but the family of 8 beside me seemed unsure if they should wait for everyone's food to come out or dig in. I also saw two tables ask for honey and the young lady waited at the first table so they could finish squeezing the honey bottle so she could hand it to the second table... Very disappointed! My husband wanted to go to Cully's for Father's Day brunch. When we got there the manager said there was a party of 3 ahead of us and we were next. I said ok we'll be outside. We noticed people leave and some new groups go in. We went in to check on our status and saw him seat a party that arrived after us. We said aren't we next? He said he forgot about us and was going to still seat others before us. My husband got pissed, so we didn't stay and Cully's just lost our future business. read more

I took my son and my boyfriend to this restaurant today because of the "good" reviews... it said it took credit/atm...but really they charge $1.50 to get $10-30 cash back atm style (rather strange setup in today's world) when I told the owner (who was checking us out) that the food was good, the service was good but this set up would keep me from coming back his response was " we wouldn't want people like you to come back" . I would never step foot there again after being attacked by the owner from voicing my opinion! Shame on them! read more

Ok best pancakes in the area. All the food was excellent and the service was great. People here are very personable and honest. I was so shocked at the price (compared to SF where I live) that I overtipped on account of the service and the man (owner?) actually asked me to reconsider! My wife and I have been coming to Cullys for several years and thoroughly enjoy the food and the accompanying service from the entire staff. We have tried a number of the entrees on the menu and find them to be tasty and plentiful. In addition, the prices are very reasonable. The servers are patient and courteous and Mark the owner is a great guy. They are always accomodating and do their best to ensure customers are well treated and served timely. There are few restaurants open for breakfast in Poway and this is a great place to bring the family or enjoy on your own. read more

Oh my goodness. Took the wife here this morning for our first visit ever. I've lived in and around Poway for 33 years and have never been here. My bad, this place is awesome. It's a small venue in a strip mall next to the old Poway theater. I had heard the wait time could be long especially on a Saturday morning, but we lucked out and only waited 15 minutes for a seat. I'm a huge biscuit & gravy lover so that's why I came. They were great with my hash browns and eggs. The wife got the corned beef hash which was very tasty. Let's get back to the hash browns, Outstanding. Best I've ever had and I'm not joking. The owner who's an older fellow couldn't have been nicer. The food came out fresh and hot. In short I can't wait to go back. Our total bill was $22.00 and that was with refills of ice tea and coffee. This is the real deal. I'll be back soon. read more

I had the corned beef hash with eggs, potatoes and toast. All were very good, however we were asked to leave after being there just over an hour total. We had finished our food and there was a small line waiting to get in, but I think its a really bad practice to ask anybody to leave who is not causing a disturbance. read more

Said he didn't know how long the wait was, there were people outside and he will get to us whenever he gets to us. Then without waiting for a response, he hung up on me! Got me so mad. Went there for a family brunch after some morning appointments with my wife and 3 kids (ages 3,6, and 10). The food was a pretty tasty, and portions were large (we probably shouldn't have ordered any for the 3 year-old). The employees were friendly, and there were a lot of regulars there. Only downside was that our family was a little too rowdy for the regular crowd, which consisted mostly of retirees and other post-mid-life people. I think we disrupted their expected peace and quiet. I'd come back again, either without the kids, or when they get older. Unless we want evil stares from other customers. And as the other reviews state: Bring cash, or beware the debit charge fee. They have signs all over warning you, so don't say you didn't know. read more

The chairs were covered in grease and filth, the top of the chairs were so thick in gunk that you could not see the grain of the wood, when it came to pay the bill I gave my debit card, they have a funny system and when I got home and checked my account on line I was charged an extra $3.50 for ATM fees, never going back. Cullys is the best place to eat for breakfast in poway or anywhere in the surrounding area. Huge portions, cheap, laid back and the owner/waiters are super nice and are fun to talk to. Its a great place to go to with friends and family. I wish they were open later then 2 but they do such a great business that they dont need to be. Go there ASAP. read more

Very simple, country western feel restaurant. Decently priced and overall good food. I got the fried egg whites, Obrien's (I think that's what they were called) which were a potato and onions hash and sourdough bread (which was really good!) It filled me up and wasn't too heavy for a brunch. The food took a little bit too come out, but I'd be up for going back to have their breakfast again. Our waitress was very nice and polite. I've come here quite a bit, and I love their servers, and I love their food. The chicken fried steak is to die for, as well as most of their breakfast. I came once and the food was not as amazing as it usually is, and I did top fairly less. Ever since then, the owner has treated me unfairly, being passive aggressive, being extremely nice to everyone else, but disregarding me, and my gf, by not giving offering us help when we arrive, and not serving us at all. I had been to Cully's a bunch at their OLD location but not much since they moved (several years ago). But my dad is here and we have gone twice in the last few weeks. They do not take credit cards. We did not know that. Neither time did we notice any signs when going in or while there - but it is cash or debit only! I defintely understand the reason (there is a HUGE fee), but wow - i have never seen a restaurant not take credit cards! we didn't notice the first time b/c my dad paid in cash and the 2nd time, we just got lucky b/c my dad had forgotten his wallet and i just HAPPEND to have cash. and again, we didnt' see any signs while entering, so that could really create a problem... Our first visit - the waitress was "running" to cover everyone but she was great and very attentive. it was just her and the owner and they managed everything. we were pleased. we really enjoyed her! our 2nd visit, it was the waiter, a "busboy" (i state that losely b/c all he did was walk around with a pot of coffee and periodically set a table or two) and about half way through our time, the owner. overall, our group did not feel that we received good service. several things that we asked for never were received (napkins, straw, place setting). our food took a long time to come out and we all had warm or cool food.... honestly, i was disappointed in that. BUT, the good thing is that there never is a wait. (good or bad, i guess). and their parking is spacious. the prices are basically reasonable. i do like their corned beef hash. their pancakes are REALLY big and fluffy. it's a "local joint". i really like it for that. i rated it "3" b/c they don't do half-stars or i would have done 3.5. and "3" is "A-OK" if you look at yelp's rating system. will i continue to dine there? yes.... on those periodic times that i have a group needing space or that i am in Poway. read more

I have been here several times and I love the atmosphere. It's very home like and I love that it's still family owned. We come in and we are always greeted with friendly staff. I can't complain about service, they are attentive when necessary and don't bug you too much while you eat and I always have a full drink. The food is good and they are always careful when I request stuff because of a food allergy. read more
