Glad to see a Culver's opened up in Summerville. When I first moved to the Charleston area in 2012 my job use to fly me to Milwaukee every other week and the people that I worked with there always wanted to hit up Culver's for lunch. I will say it was slightly better then; kind of like when a northerner comes down here and visits Chick Fil-A. But this location is nice and new and clean. The parking lot was jammed packed with one space open when we visited, so we were able to park and go inside for a butter burger and root beer. I didn't know what to expect when we decided to go here so I had never heard of it but I was not impressed. Kind is reminds me of any other fast food burger joint. I grew up in NE Ohio, where we'd regularly go to the local custard stand in Akron. Strickland's Frozen Custard. When I am back in the area, I make sure to make a visit. I have family in Greer, SC, so I am familiar with Culver's location there. Been several times at their Greer location. My wife and I with our boy checked out the one down the street from us. Culver's is good at what they do: mass produce the tried and true local sandwich and ice-cream shop. Who doesn't like crinkle fries, a hot old-fashioned burger and cool treat? I don't know if it's just because I grew up eating at places like Culver's. But there is a bit of nostalgia for me. The blue and white checkers reminds me of the soda shops and parlors. The place is homey feeling. The eating area has some partitions to give privacy. And the servers come around to refill drinks and see how you are doing. This is the Midwestern charm I grew up with. My wife had the the butter burger and I had the bacon burger. They butter the buns like true Midwestern folk do. And the beef is better quality than other known franchises. The place was clean and filled with people. The service was friendly and what you would expect from a group of teenagers. Meaning, folks reviewing need to give the kids some slack. They are kids and the place just opened up. The ice-cream we had was the caramel turtle. My wife liked it. But for some reason, I was tasting too much flavoring. It was like the person who whipped up the batch that day put too much squeeze on the bottle. I don't know if they use liquids flavoring. But I've used liquid flavoring in recipes at home before. And what I experienced was like the times when I put too much in the batch. My wife liked it very much. So, maybe it was me with a problem. Nothing beats Stricklands. But Culver's comes pretty close. And once you have the thickness of custard, you'll never go back to the airy option you'll get from others. read more

Hubby and I went for the first time this weekend and I am definitely impressed. The burgers are seared, flavorful, and stacked with fresh toppings. I would recommend an adult get a double because a single is a bit thin, which throws off the ratio of bun to meat to toppings. The bun was soft and toasty deliciousness. The onion rings were fabulous, lightly battered and fried to crisp perfection. The fries were crinkle cut and fine, not great and the cheese curds were passable. The pretzel bites with Cheddar sauce are really good! The chocolate malt was lacking in malty flavor but was a tasty shake. My hunt for the perfect malt continues. This is definitely my new fast-food burger of choice, making all other drive-through joints look like trash. Next time, I'm trying the pork tenderloin sandwich! read more

So excited we finally have a Culver's here! And it is not far from where I live. Every time I come here the staff is attentive and friendly. It is affordable and a step up from your typical fast food establishment. The bathrooms are always clean. I have tried several menu items. I have started to branch out and try new things as I would always order a butter burger and cheese curds. I recently tried the pork tenderloin sandwich as well as the onion rings. When I first heard the Culver's craze, I was intrigued. It took me a few months to get over there and try the food, but I am happy I did. From the first impression when I walked in, I was pleased. The restaurant was very clean and I was greeted right away with a smile. I needed to look at the menu for a bit since it was my first time but the clerk was super patient. I asked what he liked from there and he pointed me towards the patty melt. So that's what I got. The patty melt was pretty good but a little greasy. The fries were just okay - I think I may try a different side next time. It wasn't a bad place for a cheat day. But be prepared for grease! read more

We were so excited when Culver's came to town. Previously we were only able to eat when near Greenville or Charlotte. Food is made to order and has always been hot and fresh during our visits. The custard is really good but usually I do not ha e room for it. Side options include regular or curly fries, I always opt for the cheese curds that are a signature item. Thankfully the newness of this location has worn off and it's.much easier to find parking and wait times are much less than when they first opened. I enjoy this restaurant and will continue to return for future meals. read more

Great lunch experience at Culver's. It was my restaurant-of-choice in northern Illinois, before I moved to S.C. in 2014. There is no Culver's in Columbia, where I live, and I was delighted to visit this one today. Food was Culver's-great! Tasty, fresh, hot. Had the double cheeseburger butter basket. I really, really wanted to like this place. When we were in college, we used to pile as many people as we could into the car and drive an hour to the nearest Culver's. It's sentimental to me and brings back great memories. However, each of the last three times I've been here, to this particular location, they messed up the order. They cannot get an order right to save themselves. All three times it was the ice cream... Wrong size, wrong flavor, wrong menu item. The first two times they acknowledged it and fixed it. This last time, they tried to convince me that the concrete mixer they handed me was a Sunday. I'm not dumb... I know what a Sunday should look like. It was insult on top of injury. The second time, the custard was melted when we picked it up... Like soup. The most recent visit, my guest got a hamburger and it was overcooked and dry. He didn't even eat it. However, I will say, I've never been disappointed with the cheese curds. I used to talk Culver's up because every other location I've been to, is absolutely fantastic. As recently as 6 months ago in MN, it was several visits per week. But this place is just embarrassing. I can't even bring friends here. You guys really need to step up your game. Food fast without being fast food! What a super unique great experience. We dined in and just barely after filling our drinks the burgers appeared at our table. Loved the crinkle cut fries - you don't see those much anymore! They were firm and crunchy without being dried out. Sadly very disappointed. We have been to Culver's three times now. The first two times were amazing, we had great service and our Concrete Mixers were fantastic. We returned on Sunday the 6th, we bought the same concrete mixers. None of them were blended well (if at all) and in quite a few the toppings were absent despite paying for them. Living in Charleston my entire life, I've never had Culvers. I've rating a 4 stars for a number of reasons. We arrived around 11:30ish and it was packed. First Saturday open and it was a madhouse. We managed to get parking next door and walk in. There were about 4 people deep in the three lines they had formed and it was moving smoothly. We ordered our food and stood and waited for about 15 minutes. There were about 25-30 workers behind the counter getting ice creams, shakes and meals out. Among those people there were ALOT of people standing still. Working just standing around waiting I guess but after 15 minutes we got our food and left because of course there were no tables available. We jumped in the car and started eating our food which by this point was cold. It was good. But it was cold. Hopefully next time they won't be as busy and the food will be warmer. Overall the burger was great, the burger patty was thick but flavorful. We had cheese curds which were battered like onion rings but good. Justin had a root beer float and I had a mint concrete mixer which were super creamy. Definitely worth going again. read more

We saved a table as soon as we saw one become available and they bring the food to you. The butter burgers are juicy and tasty. Not paper thin and not too big just the right size burgers. I can't get over all the excitement and hype associated with this place. Honestly it just proves whatever you want to build in Charleston and call it "new and fresh" then by all means go ahead and do it! It went all the way around their tiny parking lot and into Hwy-17, which by-the-way, is a TERRIBLE thing to have happen.... Great choice for us since as we finished our meal and were walking back to our car, we spotted the car that was ahead of us in the line as we pulled in STILL in line!! On to the food....... I'm going to keep this simple since I doubt I will ever go back. Why will I never go back you ask?? Simple...Its just hype. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING!, special about this place. They have a big menu...yes. They have a courteous staff....yes. They serve fast food....YES! That's it! They are just another fast food place with a horribly designed parking lot!!
