Mark was awesome in the show section. Knew this was the only Alden retailer in Dallas, so I walked in planning on trying on a shoe to get my size before buying online, thinking there's no way they have my size in the model I want. Spoke with Mark, he happened to have exactly what I was looking for and I walked out with a shoe that I would have normally had to wait months for if purchased online. Old fashioned men's stores have gone the way of the independent hardware store and the five and dime, but thank goodness Culwell &Son are still there to carry on the tradition and give us gentlemen someplace to shop. I recently stopped by, and was well served by Scott, who gave me excellent attention and service. Everyone in the store was courteous and made eye contact. The place was ok looking but the vibe was very, "Get your broke ass out of here. You shouldn't be in here. My sales guy on the clothing side was nice enough but no one greeted me, as I came in. They all looked at me but no one said a word. I don't normally let that type of thing bother me but it felt off. I also needed an edge up but the attached barbershop refused me service even though there were 2 open stylists, like it was 1950 or something in some hick town outside the county line. I looked for the whites & colored water fountains to explain things. It was like I had gone thought a time warp and didn't know it. I got the pocket square I went in for and left. I won't be back. The second star is for my sales guy that offered me a bag for my suit I brought in to match up a pocket square. He seemed decent. read more

I have lived in Dallas for 57 years. I have shopped at Culwell for 30+. I buy things for myself in the boys department. My husband has suits and sport coats etc. My son was graduating from college and needed a business wardrobe. We went to Culwell. They were wonderful. They assisted in altering some older suits to fit my son and helped him choose basics to stretch his wardrobe and update the older style as well as develop his own style. No appointment necessary. Came across Culwell and Sons, as I was looking to upgrade my professional wardrobe. When I first arrived, I was greeted promptly by a sales associate (Brian) who took the time to understand both my style, and what I was looking to do to upgrade it. Settled on two custom suits at first along with several ties. Those suits came out, phenomenally and required minimal tailoring. Was so pleased that I have since been back to purchase two additional custom suits, and in turn Culwell has become my go to clothier in Dallas. Highly recommend! read more

This place carries very high-end suits. And very expensive. Customer service is really great. One or two visits and they know your name. I've been buying suits here since 1995 and I can't complain too much. Their custom shirts leave a little to be desired . . . . I'm looking for a new shirt maker. My fiancé urged me to write a review for Culwell & Son. Located in University park, this is his go to place in Dallas for quality suit pants and custom shirts. He gets his purchases tailored here and they always do a good job as well. The staff has always been helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. Prices are fair for the quality of clothing. They also have Alden shoes here, which are hard to find elsewhere. My fiancé was able to get a nice pair of classic black Alden work shoes here. I'm not sure about some of these bad reviews, but there are a lot of people and younger men that come in and browse forever and don't seem to know what they are looking for or maybe do not know what to expect when they come to a store like this. My fiancé is always in and out. If you want someone with little experience fitting you and helping you choose off the rack office clothes maybe go to Nordstrom / Neiman Marcus, but if you want someone knowledgeable come here. read more

This place claims to be LGBTQ+ friendly but I was refused service as a female looking for a custom fitted suit for my wedding. I was told by an employee that the custom suits were for men only and he had a problem assisting me because they have never fitted a women for a mens suit. This was the same employee I talked to earlier in the week to book an appointment. I basically drove an hour to get there and went back in time to the 1950s. I really just don't understand how this was even an issue. I own custom suits and have had great experiences at other places without judgement. Guess what culwell & son, in 2022 men can wear dresses and women can wear custom fitted suits. I will gladly spend my money else where. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble but I think this makes for a great teaching opportunity or moment of reflection on company policies that need to be reviewed and updated. read more

After spending the last two days searching for a couple of suits for my 6'4" husband, we were saved by Culwell's custom suit program. Honestly in all of Dallas none to be found that were what we were looking for. Comparable programs at other stores were three times the price. The staff was great and very detailed with measurements. Fabric choices were fantastic compared to what we had seen in off the rack selections. Truly custom from cut of pockets, button choices, lapel styling, lining and more. Culwell has great pricing for what is truly a fully customized suit. After what we have dealt with over the last two days, I feel certain we will return for this great service. I highly recommend Culwell. Do not be deterred by the $$$$ rating, you get what you pay for and again 1/3 the price of other retailers for the same service. read more

The close location to SMU gives this place a cool college town vibe. The parking can be a mess, but luckily they have a parking czar who will let you in if you let them know you're going to Culwell & Son. This place is awesome when it comes to shoes. They carry Alden and they have A LOT in stock. They also carry a full line...of Bill's Khakis. When I say FULL LINE...I mean, pretty much everything. I should also mention they carry Southern Tide too. It's for a younger crowd, but their polo shirts are the BEST out there. read more

I've RE-discovered Culwell & Son in the past couple of years. Having been a student at SMU a good number of years ago, I first started shopping here. They used to carry women's and men's clothing, but focused on men's clothing exclusively ( and accessories) years ago. It was a fantastic store for the years when I first shopped there, and its still fantastic. I appreciate it even more now that retail has taken a nose dive with regard to in store selection and customer service. It is truly one of the best clothing stores in Dallas and the surrounding area. While they carry traditional clothing, they continue to seek and bring in new brands that are really terrific. You will find quality clothing here that you will not find other places. Unlike department stores that have practically bare shelves these days, Culwell has deep stock - and their shelves are full of variety. Whether you want a well made suit (tailoring available onsite) , quality pants, shorts, shirts, or shoes - this is the place. Need a vest - sweater, sporting, cold weather, etc. you'll find it here. - and accessories. They have a great selection. The shoe department is good - and the fellow that manages it will order for you any shoe if you don't find it there. When I popped in yesterday for some gifts for my husband, there were 4 people available to assist. These are men that know clothing, quality, fit, and are there to help, not bother. I went to Culwell and Son with high expectations of receiving a high quality custom made suit. It has been six months since I placed my order and I have received nothing. They failed to produce or provide any product for me to review. The first suit came back and was the wrong size. They promised they would remake it. Time and again I have called and all I've received are vague promises that my suit was on the way. They finally promised that they would refund my money and that is the only promise that they have kept. They have failed at every step of the process. They failed to produce the suit that they promised. They failed to produce the suit in a timely manner. They failed to communicate properly, I've had to take the initiative to get any response from them. And they have failed in customer service. What more is there left to say. Where do I start? I suppose at the beginning. I decided 3 weeks ago that I couldn't live without Shell Cordovan shoes anymore. I refuse to replace $100 shoes every 6 months again. So, my wife, son, and I packed up and headed to DFW for the sole (haha, punny...) purpose of visiting Culwell & Son. We got there an hour before closing, and met Mark in the shoe department. I told him my thoughts, he shared his, measured my foot, had me try on several pair, and just thoroughly blew my freaking mind. Having been in retail/sales for 6 years, I know how to treat a customer, and holy baby Jesus was this awesome. I ordered $1200 worth of shoes, not just because it was better than any online price anywhere, but because the service was just that good. I left on cloud 9, and headed back home to wait for them to arrive (with my 2 free pairs of shoe trees, shoe horn, and #8 polish :D) I called Mark a few days later worried about sizing, having done some research on the particular last my shoes used, and he assured me that his measuring was spot on. I trusted him, and in another couple of days, WAY ahead of schedule, he called me to let me know that my shoes were IN STOCK at Alden's factory, and were on a truck to Dallas as we spoke. OMGWTFBBQ was I excited! 3 days later he called, had inspected them, and had them overnighted to Abilene. Fast forward to today. Here they are, on my feet, absolutely perfect in every way, and fitting like a dream. I've never been so thoroughly pleased with a purchase from start to finish as I have with my 2 new pairs of Alden Shell Cordovans. read more

Wow, well it all started when I was with a friend getting custom fitted for his wedding. Charles introduced himself. Fifteen stops, two years , whole wardrobe later. Save you time and money. The fashsion sense of the store clerks is awful and it take 3 freaken months to get a suit made. Not only does it take for ever...when it comes back chances are that it will not fit and will have to be redone. I have to give them a 1 star rating, but really don't deserve any stars!!! read more
